Biography Penelope Palebird Named after Queen Penelope of Ithaca.
"'Cause I'm a little bird..." To be born beautiful is both a blessing and a curse. Penelope discovered this as a pup when she learned her value lay in her ability to attract suitors; whose interest in her were superficial and surface-level at best. Feeling slighted by the hand dealt to her, she could only watch her brothers as they were shipped off to training camp, where they would be given a chance to prove themselves army-worthy.
"Struggling to find my own sky..." Try as she might, her efforts to persuade the army generals (and her own parents) to give her an opportunity to showcase her potential were made in vain. The nail in the coffin was when it was announced she would paired off with some high-born's son the following spring. The poor girl spent a night sobbing (a reaction she regrets in retrospect; for, everything she mourned then wasn't worthy of her tears) before deadening her heart to the circumstances.
"Flying aimlessly in the night..." She chose her favourite brother and her childhood playmate to accompany her on the lonely trek to her betrothed's estate. Unbeknownst to them, the three day's journey was made more treacherous by a lightning storm, followed by a flood. The party were often forced to double back and seek less familiar routes. It was during this journey that Penelope fell gravely ill. With her condition rapidly deteriorating, her brother (Pythagoras) sought the help of Circe. An enchantress, rumored mother of monsters, but also a healer. Who, most importantly, lived half a day's journey from where the trio temporarily made camp. While Penelope recovered, the two grew close and Circe taught her the basics of magic, planting beginnings of a life-long interest in enchantment.
"In search of a warm embrace..." When Penelope healed and Circe departed, the latter had imparted to her information that a pack lived about half a moon's journey over the mountains. A pack fabled to take in any wolves willing to their join their ranks and make them into fearsome warriors. After some persuasion, both Pythagoras and Pascal agreed to abandon their original journey, and the trio set out in search of a new future.
("Is that too much to ask?") Luckily, the trio did indeed arrive at their intended destination this time. Penelope started warrior training as soon as she was able, leaping headfirst into the opportunity she forged herself.
