Biography
Justinian was the second son of Terran Reid and Queen Astral. Justinian favored his father much more than his mother. He was wise, solemn, slow to act, steady, reliable, and bore a dry sense of humor. Most wolves who encounter Justinian and his brother, Aemon Hawthorne, will say they favor one or the other. Aemon was easier to love and follow into the heart of battle, while Justinian was easier to admire and seek counsel about the gods and minds of wolves. Justinian never experienced bloodlust, he fought with piety and grace. He saw dying as a natural part of life, and didn't grieve over the death of those he slayed. Aemon, despite his fervor, was more emotional after the kills. Emotion drove Aemon, a desire to conquer, while Justinian was driven by a desire to protect and mitigate justice. Many said he might has well have been a warrior-monk, for the serenity that Justinian slit throats and gutted bellies with his claws. Justinian was the opposite of his brother when it came to the love of his mate. His mate, Theodora, was said to be favored by the unpredictable God of Fury, the same god that would later send Hades Tiernan to test the Bron pack. However, like Aemon, Theodora found peace in Justinian--they were a matched pair. Oddly enough, the rational Justinian was swept away by the golden Theodora because of her beauty first. Theodora was a stranger, belonging neither to the Red Wastes or Dragonbone Mountains, nor was she a cultish member of the Nameless Ones. Rather, she had traveled from the lands beyond, fighting for various packs in exchange for shelter and food. Justinian melt her on the battlefield, and there they exchanged blows. Neither seemed to have the desire to give the killing blow, and both exhausted from their dance, Theodora offered her service to the Brons. Justinian never strayed from Theodora, not even when she grew to crave comfort, and learned to know rest. She bore him four pups. However, to punish Theodora from straying from the battlefield, two of their newborn pups were stolen in the raid that would kill Princess Belfast. Theodora was heavily wounded during this fight, which saved Princess Parthena Perpetua and Prince Theodore Hallow. Theodora was blinded in one eye and never able to walk without a limp. It was suicide to invade the pitch caves of the Nameless Ones--and Justinian and Theodora knew if their pups were alive, they would become cult members--or sold to equally despicable packs beyond their reach. Despite this loss, Justinian and Theodora had a deeply close relationship. They and their children and grandchildren were models of royalty. Their granddaughter, Skylark Solaris, through Parthena, gained fame throughout the lands for her voice, and her bloodline would inherit her gift for song. Theodore Hallow trained to be a warrior as his father along with Theodore's great-granddaughter, Princess Lexi Dulcine Justine--her last name after Justinian himself. The traits of Justinian and Theodora were strong for many generations, in their coats and markings. The pair were content, there had never been any desire for the throne for them. In his older years, Justinian became a teacher to young pups. Theodora passed two years before him, though it was likely her old wounds that contributed to her early passing. Strangely, Aemon did not die in battle, but in his sleep--"Death wouldn't have been able to steal him away if he was awake" Justinian said softly as they laid his brother to rest. Though he feared for the pack's future upon the arrival of the Forgotten Prince, Hades Tiernan, Justinian had lost both his mate and his brother. He tried to lead Hades in the teachings of princes, to be second to his half-sister Jocelyn as Justinian had been second to Aemon. Justinian knew that the God of Fury was often malicious in his gifts, and Justinian saw his influence in Hades' eyes. Before his death, Justinian gave the pack's charge to Cassindra, the last of the three great old warriors, and honored his brother and their children, by going on a suicide mission to the Nameless Ones dark tunnels. He believed, perhaps, old and noble, that perhaps they might let him pass through, and find his stolen son and daughter. Days later, Justinian's body was returned to the edge of the Bron lands--and it was said two pairs of green eyes glimmered beneath the light of the moon, before they disappeared.
