Biography
I can hear them. Loud and clear. I look around, my vision still has yet to let me down. I see them, calling my name, screeching and shrieking for help. They cry in pain, asking, no begging me to come and save them. I reach out, extend my arms and unhinge my jaw.
Then I wake up.
I look around, as if expecting them to be there. I let out a long sigh. I heave myself up from the ground and out of my den, racing to another.
I enter his den, it's cozy and warm. The longer I stay the sadder I become. I approach the very obviously out cold wolf. I press my muzzle to him, making sure he's real. To nobody's surprise, he is real. I make sure his daughter, my granddaughter, is doing well and not on the verge of freezing. She's fine.
I leap to my paws and race out once more, entering my daughter's larger den, shared with a few of her very close friends. Those friends greet me and let me do as I please, approaching my daughter. She's okay, and real. Her son, my grandson, is doing just as well. I thank the friends, them nodding at me and giving me slight smiles and empathetic looks.
I don't need pity. I wallow in enough of it. It's shameful. I'm shameful.
I've been forced to see my children die, get carried away to some other pack, or wander off and never be seen again. I miss them all dearly.
I wish I had somebody to be with me. I no longer crave being alone and closed off into my den. I want somebody to love. Somebody who wont leave me. Somebody who will help me with my mourning and grieving.
I am not strong. I'm not strong enough, anyway.
I do not crave death.
I crave the feeling of belonging.
I no longer wish that I could be sent to my ancestors.
I wish for..
happiness.
