"Your silence, I beg it of you." A sweeping shadow stirred the grass upon which she stood.
"Ah, Little Fox, of this many have begged," The darkness that wove between the trees purred, "but none have I been so enticed to obey as you."
"Do I entice you enough to grant me my request?" Her throat swelled with a growl as the phantom grew nearer, his scent filled her nostrils, and she could not help but breathe it deeply in. The shadow danced away from her, ebbing and flowing like a riverbed filled by the rain.
"Only just, but I am not a keeper of promises."
"So it seems."
"Did you miss me, Little Fox?" Dry leaves crackled and broke beneath his feet, but only barely, as though they feared disturbing him.
"Not in the slightest, in fact I dreamt of your calamity every night, and in the morning I prayed to the dawn that the harm would befall you."
His laugh warmed the air, and though the night air brought a chill, the warmth didn't fail to reach Lapsa. "I fear the gods favor me too greatly to see my demise, though, I must admit, I missed you, too, Lapsa."
He pressed the space between them, closing it with paws painted by the earth.
Another snarl rumbled up, but it held no malice, only a warning. "You will never be alpha, and I shall never be your mate."
"Not of this pack, but of one to come, join me, Lapsa, we can rule the world."
She paused, breathing him in, his fur melting with the night. "Or you will destroy it."
