Biography
Erklíon was born, alongside 24 other pups, into a once mighty pack. She had been one of the luckier ones who had managed to survive the wicked frosts and the bone chilling winds that stripped the valley of any life throughout the winter months. Erklíon unknowingly became witness to the extremes that the older pack members had gone to.
Playing in the dense forest which boarded the open valley, Erklíon spotted a hollow in the forest floor. It was covered with moss and a thicket of vines grew in all directions, but she decided she wanted a closer look at it. Crawling into the hollow, she wriggled and wriggled until she felt herself come loose from the savage grip of the vines and she landed, exhaling the breath of air she didn't know she was holding. Poking her head up, she peered through the shrubs and narrowed her gaze.
Mackinnon and McKerrow; her great grandparents, were the only two wolves she recognised amongst the gathering. What are they doing? she thought, as she watched McKerrow turn to pick up a pup. 'Runty' had been the name the other pack members called him, and McKerrow had now placed 'Runty' at the paws of another pack's alpha pair. "You can have him, and here-" He paused and herded another sixteen pups towards the other pack. "Here is the rest of the peace offering. We trust you'll uphold your end of the bargain and stay well clear of the pack territory?" She heard McKerrow ask.
The male he was facing, with his big grey mane of fur had nodded. "We will. The rest of my pack will decide who is kept from this 'peace offering' you have given us. You may see some of them in the future and those who you do not...Well they wil have been the ones we have err, dispatched." He laughed and McKerrow nodded. "Very well, they are yours now, you may do what you wish. Come, Mackinnon, we must now return to the main den. We bid you farewell, Jasper." McKerrow said over his shoulder and Mackinnon followed after him.
After watching the trade-off play out, Erklíon was almost frozen to the spot she had wriggled into and not because of the cold winter's air which seemed to press in closer to her skin than usual.
In time, Erklíon would come to realise that Mackinnon and McKerrow had removed the dense number of pups for the overall wellbeing of the stronger pack members. It had also been to partially protect offspring of the founding pack members and to hopefully continue the strong bloodlines and pack they once had. For now, Erklíon had to compose herself carefully as she backed out of the hollow and trotted towards the main den site.
