Biography
She remembered her mother as beautiful. Her coat had been marble and snow, starlight on water, first fog in a forest clearing. It was, she was sure, what had attracted her father. He was noble, regal, reknown as a hero. Many females had come to him, and many had left with cubs in their bellies.
She had her father's eyes, her mother's nose. Her mother's ears, her father's coat. The stripes on her legs were both her parents', but the stripe on her head was her own, as was the white of her shoulders. All of it had given her the name. Walked through Ashes. She looked like it.
And she had done it, too.
She had been young when she left her pack. More forward than her mother, she had felt the need to become more than just her daughter. When a fire roared in the forest they lived in and scared away most of the game, the time had come to leave. Through the ashes of the trees she played under as a cub, the young female had trotted, leaving her home behind.
The pack she found had regarded her with interest. She had convinced them with her skill. Having never met her father, she could not know it was his heritage, too. Maybe it was not, after all. She was her own.
