She felt like screaming. Her heart ached. Her soul was filled with sorrow. Her mind numb, with pain.
You lied...
The she-wolf howled loudly. The sadness in her voice echoing, like a song. Valéntinä sat there at the alter still, hours after service. Rose petals still covered the meadow floor. The sweet scent of flowers now made her sick. Everyone else had long left, levaing her to mourn the loss of her lover.
The news had been bought to her as she was standing in front of the Elder's, ready to say her vows of love, to the one she wished to spend eternity beside. Only to be told he wouldn't be coming. Archerô had been sent on patrol the night before, only to never come back. Before he left, he had worded a promise, sealed with a lick on the cheek.
I will be back before dawn, my love. I will meet you at the alter.
He never showed up. Valéntinä sniffled, and rubbed her muzzle with her paws. The fur around her eyes were stained with tears. Her pale blue eyes were red and glassy. Her ears flattened. None of the wolves that left on last night's patrol returned, and the Pack was now terribly worried that they are now gone for good. Valéntinä refused to believe they left on their own accord, but she didn't want to think that maybe they ended up dead.
Time passed slowly, and wolves came and left, saying words of grief. However the only emotion she seemed to feel was numb. The sun tilted across the clear sky, before dissapearing below the horizon. She had been sitting still, in the meadow for the whole day. Still awaiting her love, that would never forfill his promise.
Pinks, purples and blues adorned the heavens, bringing forth the warning that night was soon to come. And it did. There was no moon that night. Valéntinä felt that it was the darkest night she had ever witnessed. Would the sun ever rise again? She seemed to wonder. Even the stars had wandered off, leaving the night extremely black. The night seemed threatning, like the gloom would suffocate all the light left.
Valéntinä didn't remember closing her eyes. But she opened them to a ghastly scene.
Red; red everywhere. The sky was the colour of blood, the sun like a crimson blot. Maroon shadows danced. The meadow was no more, the flowers dead, the rose petals wilted. Magenta clouds filled the heavens. But she wasn't scared. She was numb.
