Rejection.
That word rang in his head. He let out a misty sigh through his muzzle in an attempt to soothe his nerves, relishing the feeling as his warm breath dissipated into the cool night air. Reminiscing alone in this clearing, with the only company being the chorus of crickets and the playful dancing of flickering fireflies, he felt strangely nostalgic, even if his past was not a stable, happy one. Memories flooded through his mind: the sound of taunting sneers, the haughty eyes that did not need a voice to reprimand. The desire for a royal reign, only to have that dream crushed and beaten into submission.
He had ran away, searching for his own kingdom to rule. He became notorious for his status as a lost and broken prince; he had even claimed it as his namesake. But he found royalty to be a ruthless, rash, ruin. Better to be a rebel instead. And he had given up the vain pursuit of being king, for if he had not been rejected, how could he have ever come here, to this beautiful end?
