Arashi (嵐) means storm in Japanese
Arashi ran through the dark woods. His eyes looking besides him to see if the other pups was near him. Seeing nothing, he keeps on running.
What is he even doing here? He was competing for his life. Maybe his future. This happens to every surviving pup after they reach 8 months old. After months of practicing how to fight, hunt and survive, all pups go through an competition his pack, and only his pack go through, Every single wolf in his pack has competed in this. He knew of pups older than him that couldn't pass this test because of one measly mistake. And what happens to them?
Death or Torture
He remembers being outside with his mentor, training his ass off. Everyday, Every week, Every day for the last 8 months. In the rain. In thunder. In the storm or maybe even in snowstorms. Blizzards. Hurricanes. No one cared. If you died before the competition, who gives a damn. If you died, you died. No one cares for a pup for the first 3 or so weeks, they were not that stupid to let pups that young to train, but once week four passes, your life depended on it. If you died during training, there was no memorial. No grieving. No nothing. No one cared unless you were well respected and elderly.
Right now, was the time that the current pups had reached 8 months. Ready to compete. Ready to die. Arashi had seen many deaths. Many pups. So much, Arashi was used to it by now. He himself almost died. And he was only in the first round. The first round out of five. The first round was going through the woods of his pack's territory, with other predators in it, and to the other side of the woods. The first 15 will pass. The others who were to slow, dies or get tortured until death.
Arashi kept running. The sunlight that shone through the rooftop of the trees made his black pelt shine. His paws tired and legs ready to give up on him. He wasnt nimble footed. He didnt have any boosts when borned unlike most of the pups in the competition, yet he was still alive. His muscles rippled, begging to stop but theyre going on. Carrying him to victory. That was something rare right? A pup that wasnt borned with any boosts in battle or hunting, surviving for the last 8 months. A pup that didnt have any potentialities surviving in the last eight months of hell. That was rare indeed.
Arashis ears perked up here and there, listening for any paw steps of the other pups in the competition. Listening for any predators. Arashi could see a field of light in front of him. He was close to winning this round. So close to winning his life but so far.
