Adam

______________________________________

It was one of those mornings where you are a walking ghost from a sleepless night of getting tied in the sheets of your own thoughts, going out of your mind the night before you start a new job. That night filled with anxiety of what your co-workers will be like, is your boss nice? Will this be hell? These were the thoughts that recycled through Adam's head as he had laid in bed, staring at the white ceiling of his apartment.

He groomed his messy, now wet wavy hair into place, trying to be the most professional he could be on his first day. He'd done small jobs along the same line, but never had he thought that it would snowball to this. How amazing of a feat was it to be working for this man. Adam wasn't too sure if he'd beent he one to pick the bodyguards, or if it was his manager, but whomever it was, he was the upmost grateful. As the man stared at himself in the mirror, he felt the nervousness that had kept him up all night coming back. Was this really the right fit for him? The job that was, his outfit was fine.

He buttoned the last of the buttons on his white dress shirt, and fixed his cuffs, fighting with the left one for a moment. Not too long later he was ready to head out. The keys to his black suburban jingled in his hands as he sorted through the ungodly amount on his keychain for the key to his front door. It was marked with a small black streak, but it was still hard to find due to how small it was. He was organized, but apparently not that much.

-

Adam drove down the highway, the windows open, one hand on the wheel, the other one resting in his lap as he silently nodded along to the music that come over the speakers, scaning the road in front of him. His once tidy hair blew back in the wind as he sped down the lane. As he approched the job however, the windows came up, and both hands rested on the wheel. The music was turned down and he slowed down to a crusie through the city towards the record label to collect the things he needed to do his job correctly. He'd been fitted for his earpiece already, and was already aware of how the radios worked, so the last thing he needed to do was to do was to pick the equipment up.

He punched the numbers into the pinpad to get through the gate and slowly pulled into the parking lot. He found a spot and parked. With a raw moment of overwhelming emotion, Adam bit his lower lip as he fixed his black hair, trying to get it to the neat style it was before he had rolled his windows down. Big mistake, but now this stand wouldn't just stay put, and he didn't have any sort of spray or gel to keep it in place. Giving up on it as to not be late, Adam got out of the large vehicle and walked away from it, the summer heat beating down on his back as he strolled away, locking the car.

The air conditioning unit washed over him as he walked into the building. He welcomed the cool, slightly humid air as he stopped at the front desk. His face was relaxed, his shoulders free of any tension or signs of stress. "Mr. Sterling?" The woman asked. He flashed her a smile, "Yes Ma'am." He responded. She smiled back at him, and stood up, leading the way to the back.

-

Adam had collected his things, met the "big bosses" of the record label and was in the back of a van on the way to meet the man he would be watching over; Jesse Matthews. His nephew was a huge fan, but Adam wouldn't tell him that he'd be working under him. Adam himself hadn't really heard much of Jesse since he didn't keep up with the latest celebrities, but it was an amazing feat either way.

The van pulled up to the curb, and Adam got out, assesse the scene in front of him. There was a gaggle of people, many of them wearing the same sort of shirts, or other merch, lined up in the sun, cheering with excitment. Adam checked the make sure he wouldn't get hit by oncoming traffic before he jogged across the street, radio and earpiece set and ready for his first day at work. He paused by another body guard, looking around. Shouldn't he be doing something to keep the overflowing crowd back? The people, they were going crazy, trying to jump over the barricades. Adam's eyes fell on the striking man signing autographs for the fans. He gave the other guard a strange, disapointed look before movement caught his attention.

A man was jumping over the barricades, his feet hadn't even touched the pavement yet before Adam was reacting. He was as quick as he was witty, but his previous training gave him the upperhand against the civilian as he grabbed the mans torso, pulling him back before he reached Mr. Matthews. Adam swung him around, handing the man off to the venues security, hands shaking from the rush of adrenaline, just standing there watching the man get walked off, hands behidn his back, getting pushed along by the two security officers.
The other guard whom had just stood there and watched the situation came over, shaking his head. "People are crazy." The man said, holding his hand out to shake Adams. The two exchanged names, and stood in a comfortable silence watching the man interact with those around him.

Jesse

∘₊✧──────✧₊∘

It had been a night like any other. Restless. Uneventful. Unequivocally sleepless. Seldom came the night where more than two hours of sleep was received, but that didn't stop the young musician from being up and at 'em when the morning sun started drifting through his bedroom curtains. It would be a good day. A great day. It would be a new chapter in life, hopefully containing a bodyguard who was actually worth the money he was being paid. With any luck, he wouldn't have to worry his own safety with the newest addition to the team.

.

Typically, Jesse would just have his manager pick and choose his security, but as of late his team hadn't been choosing very good candidates. While he was slow to grow irritated, he and his manager had it out to the point that Jesse demanded to take over and decide who would be tasked with his safety. There had been too many close calls. Too many nightmare inducing situations and Jesse just couldn't take it anymore. He just hoped that this new man- Adam Sterling, really knew what it was that he was doing.

.

A hot shower was exactly what Jesse had needed to shake off the grogginess. He toweled off, tousling those rich waves into a damp mess before brushing them out again. He left his hair as it was to dry and addressed the subject of clothing. It was a hot day, so he opted for a tank top, which showcased the delicately defined shape of his collarbones and faint muscle. Dark colored blue jeans hung dangerously low on his hips and once a few more additions and adjustments, he was grabbing the keys and helmet to his bike and heading out the door.

-

The drive was pretty basic, the wind on his skin igniting a whole new fire in his veins. He planned on making an appearance for his fans and signing a few autographs, taking a few pictures, the works, really. Even though it could get pretty hectic, he absolutely loved it. Jesse loved making other people happy and creating art that really speaks to them. It was all he ever wanted...

.

He arrived at the record label, finding his more or less useless guard already there and waiting. Jesse parked the bike and took off his helmet before shaking out his slightly messy but now dry hair. "Good morning, Mr. Matthews. Are you ready to go?" He asked, his voice still gruff and thick with sleep. Jesse nodded, flashing a bright smile before allowing the older man to lead him off to the van that would take them to the meet and greet spot.

.

As he pulled up and saw all of those adoring fans, Jesse could feel the excitement rising in his bones. Taking a moment to get his game face on, Jesse ran a hand through his hair and pulled some of it back into a ponytail to make it appear at least a little neater. Plus, it was hot outside, and there was nothing worse than sweaty hair. Ugh. "Let's go!" He smiled, finally ready. Within moments he was springing out of the van with his security in tow. In an instant, the murmuring crowd turning into a giddy, cheering mass of bodies all vying for his attention. Attention that he gladly gave. It probably encouraged the crowd to react as strongly as they did, but as long as no one posed any danger to others, he didn't care how rowdy they got.

.

"Jesse!! Jesse, over here!.... Sign this please!... Jesse! Can we get a picture?"

.

Different variations of the same requests filled his ears and most of them he complied with. He scrawled his iconic signature across photos, albums, shirts, and skin. Gushing young girls declared they'd never wash away his touch and others just seemed over joyed to have a selfie to show their friends. Some of the fans even had gifts for him, usually ranging from beaded jewelry and cute stuffed animals. Jesse always accepted gifts. They were so sweet and reminded him day in and day out why he was still making music, even if he didn't always have the motivation.

.

As he leaned in for a picture with a group of guys, Jesse caught sight of a man being drug away by none other than his new bodyguard. The sight made him smile as he watched the lean, skilled man perform just as the other bodyguard should have been doing all of those months. He was going to be perfect. Jesse could feel it in his bones. He continued on with pleasing the crowd for a while longer, cutting up and joking around until the time finally came to depart. After all, he had someone new to meet, and he was quite excited.

.

Jesse told the crowd that it was time for him to go and while there were quite a few who weren't ready for the moment to end, most of them let the man leave without too much of a fuss. A couple crazed fans started jumping over the barricade the moment he turned his back, but the security officers seemed to have already expected that and were hot on their tails, making them get back and go on about their business as Jesse approached the two body guards.

.

"Good morning again, Lucas!" He chirped, his smile brightening when he turned to address the new man. Jesse extended a hand, pausing for only a second as he gave the man a good once over. He liked to familiarize himself with his employees, and this man would likely be no different. Though, he was already tempted to play favorites due to that display of skill earlier, but all good things would come in time. "And you must be Mr. Sterling? Jesse Matthews, but you can just call me Jesse," he greeted, his expression soft and friendly. Anyone who knew Jesse knew that he was quite likely the nicest and most friendly person you'd ever meet. Hardly no one was a stranger and if he could, he'd gladly open his arms up to anyone in need. It was just who he was.

Adam

________________________________

Now that the two bodyguards were acquainted, Adam could tell that the man that stood next to him was useless. Completely and utterly useless. You could see it in the mans eyes. He was carefree, and just shrugged off the incident while rolling his eyes. Adam, being a serious man, didn't like that. How could he not take watching another man's life, especially this man, so unseriously? Perhaps Adam was just uptight, but it was so uncertain as to how Lucas got the job. Had the managers been so desperate? He was ninety-nine percent sure that if they'd hired fans, they would guard Jesse better than him. He noticed the man coming towards them, a cheerful look on his face. Adam shook his head, wanting to tell the man that right here in front of fans was not the time to meet. He was taken a back by just how friendly and warm Jesse was. It wasn't what he had been expecting. Was it just a performance for the fans? If so, the man needed to get into acting. His head tilted slightly as he tried to figure out Jesse. Was he being fake, or was he really just naturally this friendly.

Adam and Lucas walked after Jesse as he departed from his fans. Adam let the other man announce it to whoever was on the other end of the line, watching the crowds. Their hands reached out, trying to touch the man that walked so confidently in front of him. Adam watched the swarming fans behind them began to jump the barricades. His face flashed with alarm before realizing that the venues security had this one covered. "Can we get the fans some water please?" He asked over the line. "Yep." A voice responded before the line was killed by the other end.

-

The door swung closed behind him as he stepped into the empty venue. Workers bustled about, setting up, and checking that the lights on the stage were working. Adam wanted to gaze around, amazed at the sight, but instead his focus lay on his employer. "It's an honor, sir." Adam said, dipping his head to show his respect to the man. He wouldn't call him Jesse. It was too formal, at least for now. He'd just met the man afterall. He held his hand out to shake Mr. Matthews hand. Adam's handshake was firm, and controlled, much like his choice of words. His shoulders were square, and just from looking at him, you could tell that Adam was ready for anything that was thrown his way.

Now that introductions were out of the way, Adam made sure to fade into the backdrop, watching Jesse from a dark corner, not too far away in case of an emergency, watching the man interact with those around him. The smile, it reached his eyes, his body language was relaxed and Jesse seemed happy to just be there, basking in the environment. Maybe he really was just that friendly and open. It was admirable since you didn't see many celebrities like that, but a reserved man was a safe man.

The man's gaze was unblinking as he watched his employer do his job. His eyes flicked around the venue before returning back to the man. Did Jesse want water? Something to eat? He hadn't seen him get anything to drink since he'd been there, and while it wasn't too long, it was important for the singer to remain hydrated. A case of water laid not too far away with backstage written on it. Adam approched the man that was moving it. "Would it be alright to steal one of those from you?" He asked, hands resting at his side. "I fear that Mr. Matthews may be dehydrated." The man looked at Adam, his equipment and nodded. "Yes." The stranger passed Adam the bottle, and the man turned around, scanning the area for where Jesse had gone off to.

He didn't have to search too far for the man. Nervously, he approched Jesse, waiting for him to notice the guard behind him, not wanting to invade nor interupt the current conversation. Once Jesse was done talking, he cleared his throat, silently holding the water out to him. Adam's eyes were kind as he looked at his employer with a small arc of worry in his eyebrows. He didn't say anything, and instead took a step back out of Jesse's space when he accepted the water, waiting for the orders to fetch the man something else.
