To answer the how does it work part: go to your wolf's page, scroll towards the bottom and click Manage Your Wolf, then click Retire Wolf, check the box and submit.

If you retire any wolf, they just die. You can't retrieve them back. However you can at least memorialize them and also still look back at their info.
Some people do this because they don't like a wolf and/or they need the den space.
What does it mean to retire a wolf and how does it work?
