It was a foggy morning, we could barely see 20 feet in front of us. Still, everyone kept moving; I hated it, we were so tightly packed that I couldn’t move my wings. They were starting to cramp from the awkward position I had to hold them in so they didn’t hit anyone. On a normal routine, I would ask to move to the back, but we were ordered to stay silent so we wouldn’t be heard.
The silence ended quickly with a loud explosion and everyone grabbed their weapons. I flew into the air to investigate, but it was so hard to see anything on the ground because it fog was so thick. The fact I was in the air flying above it didn’t help whatsoever.
I tried to look for higher ground nearby where the fog wasn’t as bad but instead I saw an enemy. My only conclusion was that they were the ones that set off the explosion. They were the only other ones here, weren’t they?
I swooped down to land next to the general,
“Sir, there are men wearing enemy uniforms on the hills in front of us. I Don’t they can see us, they just know we are here, as all of them were on high alert. I couldn’t even see our troops from overhead so we are almost completely covered.” it didn’t take long for everyone to get reorganized and start circling around the hills.
It proceeded to become a bloodbath, of course, I was in the sky watching everything go down. Most feared that my mask would break from a gunshot; it would result in a large explosion killing everyone due to all the gunpowder. The last thing I expected was to get taken out in mid-air.
Before I knew it I heard a crack, and I was sent flying through trees. By the time I hit the ground, I knew I had a concussion. I winced as I tried to get off the ground, biting back a scream as my wing was broken and missing some feathers. I don’t even remember which direction I came from, it was as if they spun me in circles to confuse me on purpose.
I looked around for a tall tree, and once I found one, I climbed my way up. My main worry wasn’t finding the rest of my squad though. I didn’t want to be sitting prey if whatever attacked me was coming back.
