Name
Avangak Alolov
Generally he just goes by Avan, and he is incredibly irritated by people calling him by his full first name. It’s one of those little things sure to get under his skin.
Age
18
Gender
Masculine
Avan was born masculine and has identified as male for his entire life.
Sexuality
Bisexual Pancurious
Avan has been in relationships with girls and boys, but never with people who don’t fall into those two categories. That’s not to say he wouldn’t, and he’s curious about it, but he’s just not been interested in anyone who doesn’t generally fit into the male or female categories yet.
Appearance
Avan’s the kind of person you would call “adorable.” He has a rounded face and low cheekbones that gives his cheeks a round, full look. He has creases on either side of his nose which stretch into heavy dimples when he grins. His nose is large and flat towards the end, wider than it is tall. It’s soft and curves very gently, and the bridge is rather small and weak. He has a cupid’s-bow mouth with pinkish lips and small, neat teeth. His teeth aren’t in great shape, and he might have a small cavity or two forming. His skin, smooth and with the pampered glow that so often accompanies wealthy families, is a warm nut brown, like a pecan shell. His eyes are squinted and monolid, creased at the edges and very thin. His irises are so dark that they appear black, and are rather large, leaving less whites to his eyes. They’re dark and shadowed, and rarely does the light glint against them. They’re like the ebony eyes of a polar bear. His eyebrows are thick and black, like two thick smudes set fairly high over his eyes. They can appear genial, as they often do, but more often than not one is quirked up while the other remains in position. With his eyebrows quirked he can express anything: anger, amusement, irritation, concern, disbelief. To see him with his eyebrows in their normal positions is rare unless he’s just woken up. His ears are rounded but not particularly large. He has a good broad forehead, and his chin is gently rounded. He has some stubble coming in, but it’s not much to look at yet, and not enough to bother trying to get rid of. It has no particular pattern, and is more of a haze of darkness, hard to place. The place it’s thickest is near the sides of his face, where it looks as though he might get some sideburns once his facial hair has grown out more.
Avan’s hair is very important to him, more than the rest of his appearance - though that’s important too. His hair spills out to both sides of his face, framing it in waves. It’s a dull, dark black color. While it is very dark, it lacks the gleam that some black hair has. It’s not glossy nor oily, and it’s not raven black or inky. It’s more like a soft black, dark as the night but light enough that each hair can be distinguished. It’s soft and wavy, and tends to splay out across his shoulders. Because he’s from a wealthy home, and because he so greatly values his hair, he doesn’t just leave it natural. Usually he braids small strands of it, particularly towards the front, in three-strand braids that aren’t even half an inch wide. When he’s doing something that might dirty it or mess it up he puts it up in a high bun, tight and secured with wooden hair pins. He takes a lot of time out for his hair, and the style is meticulous, every hair in place. He can do more elaborate hairstyles for more formal events, most of them involving weaves which he almost certainly learned from his family. Braids are his preferred way of styling his hair, and one talent he has in knowing more types of braids than anyone he’s met.
Matching his round cheeks and curved chin, Avan’s build is far from lean or thin. He has broad shoulders and very good posture, but he’s also rather short for a boy his age and is slightly plump. While he doesn’t look anything near noble, it does give him a certain charm. He stands at 5’5”, and if he’s ever seen a hungry day in his life, it certainly doesn’t show. Mixed with his youthful face, he has a very boyish look about him despite his age. He has soft skin, always warm to the touch, which has a certain glow to it. He doesn’t appear to be in great physical condition, but not bad enough that he would have much trouble doing physical activities. He looks, rather, like the kind of person who hasn’t needed to do physical activities. He’s generally clean and tidy, his fingernails clipped and his hands soft. He has fairly short fingers which look as though they wouldn’t be any good for dexterity. His hips are a bit wide, his calves large, and he has flat, soft feet. He often has his toes visible, and his toenails are also clipped and clean. His chest has very little hair on it, and he bears no scars on his body, except a few scuffs that are to be expected from his constant exploration. He usually has ink patterns across his hands and arms which he himself drew there, and his drawing over half-faded patterns sometimes give the whole thing a surreal look.
Avan’s family is known, among other things, for their odd attire. Though they say it’s the traditional clothing of the Jonpan, everyone knows that the Jonpan have always worn whatever people in the area around them wore. As such, the style they wear seems to borrow from a majority of the towns, cultures, and tribes in the nearby area. And because of their wealth, it’s only the very best of these items for them. The main feature of male outfits tends to be the shirts, loose button-ups in bright colors which bear embroidered patterns. Avan might wear it half-unbuttoned in warm weather, though never in professional settings. Large silken scarves, even more colorful and intricate, can be draped over the shoulders or tied around the neck. Avan usually won’t wear a jacket unless it’s very cold, in which case he has a thick woolen tunic with baggy sleeves, warm fur stitched onto the inside. Pants are usually just leggings or tight trousers in plain black or brown. Avan prefers to wear sandals with straps, though he also has tall leather boots in case he needs them. He also wears a number of thin necklaces. Most are made of gold or something similar, and many also have small beads carved of semi-precious stones like nuumite and celestobarite. Although the variety of colors is wildly varying with Avan, he’s especially fond of cream or ivory bases with brighter patterns. He has no need for being practical. It’s just not something that occurs to him. Though he has formalwear, sleepwear, winter clothing, and things like that, the shirt and necklaces tend to form a base for other outfits.
Personality
Upon first meeting Avan, you might think to yourself, “What a nice young man. What a charming boy, and such good manners.” And as long as you don’t stake your life on it, this impression of him should serve you well. Because he is charming, he does have good manners, and he is nice - for the most part. A lot of people put on an act, a smile and a silver tongue serving them well. His friends might say it’s his way of putting people at ease, and there’s no harm in buttering people up a bit. His enemies might say that he wants something from everyone. But really, doesn’t everyone? The social seek to thrive on energy. Lovers seek validation and affection. The selfless seek to feel something good about themselves. And that’s not saying that Avan hasn’t been known to be kind to others - he has, on multiple occasions, and his nature can stray towards the gentle. He’s so often smiling, and sometimes he just has that sadness about him that lures you in. Like the tragic clown figures which he finds so entrancing, that much smiling gets you to wondering what’s underneath. Of course, maybe the answer to that question isn’t quite as innocent. In so many cases he may look for pity, but whatever his problem is, it’s usually a lie. When he’s hurt, he’s like an injured fawn, innocent and doe-eyed. He’s generally energetic, though not overly-so, and likes to initiate things that can be done for fun. He doesn’t wait for permission before going off to explore, one of his favorite activities. His natural curiosity in this matter could prove trouble down the road. He likes people, but only a few at a time. Crowds and loud noises tend to put him in a more withdrawn mood. But being alone does the same thing. Avan is a good enough friend - he’s no guardian lion, but he sticks by his friends. But relationships? That’s another matter. Avan never seems to mind being flirted with, but only flirts back if he really means it. He has a habit of lying to get out of relationships, or of avoiding his partners until they figure out that he’s no longer interested.
Avan usually gets along with people, or pretends to. One thing that is a major detriment to this, though, is his lack of control over his emotions. For a while it’ll seem like he’s going fine, but his explosions, generally angry, are hard to predict and seem to be set off by the oddest things. He’s not generally violent when he’s angry, though he can be driven to it, but is more prone to yelling and saying hurtful things. Things that would normally make someone angry don’t always affect him that way, while other things might have an unpredicted effect. Besides his complete fury, there are also things that completely irritate him and get under his skin. They might be stupid things like putting your socks and shoes on in the wrong order, but he just can’t let go of stuff like that. He has to say something, or it will bother him for the rest of his life. If the person keeps it up after he corrects them, he usually either gets more irate or gives up and refuses to interact with them for a day or two. There are a few things that are sure to get a ride out of him. One is insulting his family, though different kinds of insults will get different reactions and some may not work. Another is calling him by his full name, or doing anything to harm his perfect hair. The funny thing is, besides this he’s generally a very rational and accepting person. He’s logical in arguments, and tends not to get upset. He’s always willing to see both sides, which might just be another way of buttering people up - nothing makes them more happy than thinking they actually convinced someone of their viewpoint.
With his enemies, Avan is a different kind of person. He hates to get into physical fights or out-in-the-open arguments, but his passive-aggressiveness surpasses such simple concepts as subtle jibes and snarky comments. He takes passive-aggressive to a level that’s almost cruel, but only with people that he feels deserve it. That’s not to say he’s anyone to decide who deserves it, but he certainly seems to think he is. His favorite way of getting back at people is to spread rumors. He has enough friends and the illusion of innocence to make people implicitly trust him. He’s good at getting rumors started, and fairly good at keeping them from being traced back to him. In confrontations, Avan never gets into physical fights. He rarely flings insults, but instead makes himself out to be the rational and kind one in any situation. He always tries to talk people down, apologizes and tries to make up, and takes all the blame as though he’s just a sweet boy taking the fall for an anger-fueled maniac. He’s also been known to fake being sad or hurt to get himself out of bad situations, and can make himself cry a bit if he has to. People tend to take his side, and his most infuriating ability is the ability to make people empathize with him and say to themselves how patient and good-natured he is. Of course, when he’s alone with someone he hates, he doesn’t bother trying to pretend. He’s a bit more nasty, and a lot more out in the open. Still, he’s not a physical person, and he’ll say “fuck you” and walk away before he gets into an actual fight.
Avan has always struggled with schoolwork, and never gets good grades. That’s not to say he doesn’t work hard. He’s a very motivated and organized person, and once he has a goal in mind he can figure out what needs to be done to complete it. He’s a tidy person who’s serious about getting things done, but that doesn’t mean he’s always good at them. Creativity he can pull off fairly well. Numbers he has a bit of a head for. Any other school subjects? He’s one of the worst students in school. Though he’s fond of poetry, when he tries to write it it comes off as convoluted and presumptuous. He’s capable of using some flowery language without embarrassing himself, but saves this for enemies, teachers, and family. With his friends, the finest form of poetic devices he uses are a few choice cuss words sprinkled in. He hates the idea of people who are “naturally” good at things. Talent is just something people make up to look better. How could anyone just be naturally talented at something? He scoffs at the very notion. Avan can be a bit uptight, prudish and nervous about new ideas. But he’s also a reliable person, and he doesn’t trick or lie to his friends. He’s not totally honest, but he has morals and knows when he’s gone too far. It’s not as though he has no conscience - like everyone, sometimes it’s harder to notice, but it’s always enough to dictate what he does. He’s a diligent worker and he believes that practice makes perfect.
Likes
Sugar is something Avan can never get enough of. Perhaps that’s why he’s got that chubby figure, but he just loves all kinds of sugar. He’s particularly fond of pastries, especially ones with cream.
Avan is often doodling on his arms and hands, usually just meaningless patterns.
Avan has a love-hate relationship with spicy foods. He’s always excited to have something spicy and then regrets it - and then does it again.
His hair is quite important to him, and he takes very good care of it. He likes it be soft and braided, and he also likes to get compliments on it.
Avan’s a very curious person, and he loves to explore any place he hasn’t been to before. He also likes finding little nooks and crannies to tuck himself into.
Avan is quite loyal to his family, and he never speaks badly about them, even if they aren’t exactly a model family.
Dislikes
There are a lot of little, unpredictable things that get under Avan’s skin and drive him absolutely crazy.
Avan’s never understood people who value items, and he has no respect for personal belongings and no attachment to his own possessions.
Schoolwork and Avan have never gotten along, and he absolutely hates school.
Avan hates getting into physical fights, and he doesn’t like violence in general.
“Talented” people, special ones who are “destined” to be great, are the ones Avan hates most. Those precious chosen ones are fakes, all of them.
Loud, jostling crowds drain Avan of his energy, and he prefers to avoid them.
Strengths
Avan is generally good at talking to people, and he tends to make a good first impression.
Though this might not be considered a strength, Avan can spread rumors like nobody’s business.
Although he’s not too good at things, he’s diligent and he works hard at them all the same, which sometimes makes up for it.
Avan knows a hundred different kinds of braids, and he can do them without even looking.
If Avan has to, he can often get people to come around to his point of view, and make himself out to be the good guy in any situation.
Despite his upbringing, Avan is generally nature-savvy and knows how to take care of small emergencies when nobody else is nearby.
Though people assume he can’t fight, Avan’s family is certainly rich enough to have had him trained in the art of self-defense. He may not be a pro, but he’s no pushover, either.
Weaknesses
Avan’s emotions sometimes get the better of him, which can cause a lot of problems.
His tendency to be irritated by the small things can drive him (and everyone around him) absolutely crazy.
Avan isn’t much one for sports, and his dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination isn’t great.
As everyone knows, Avan is not good at schoolwork at all. Though he works at it, he simply can’t get his grades up.
Avan is rather pampered, and he’s as delicate as anyone from a family like his can be expected to be. Though he can handle himself physically, it’s more of the emotional strain of events beyond his control that get to him.
Avan’s poetry is just terrible, and even worse, he doesn’t seem to understand how terrible it is.
Due to his more uptight nature, Avan doesn’t always assimilate well, and can have trouble understanding different cultures and ways of thinking.

Avan’s family, the Alolovs, are well-known, usually treated with equal parts respect and disgust. Though they’re known for getting themselves into scandals, they’re also the very definition of things the kingdom holds sacred: devoutly religious, uptight, outspoken in political matters, and with a lot of vehement opinions that match those of the majority of people. Though a point of pride for them is being descended from the Jonpan, a scattering of travelling groups, the truth is that most people have some Jonpan in them. And the Jonpan aren’t exactly known for their culture: in fact, they’re famous for being chameleons who match whatever environment they’re in, fitting in perfectly with the locals. Avan isn’t quite as vehement about his culture - in general, he finds it boring. But he wouldn’t start an argument with his family. He has great respect for them, and will defend their honor with his dying breath. To him, his family can do no wrong, and he won’t even deign to have an intelligent conversation about it. His family is incredibly large, consisting of his parents, brothers, grandparents, uncles and aunts, and cousins. His mother is a cardinal of The Enigma. Though little is known about the religion (even by the people who follow it), the general idea is that what is sacred in unknowable, so to seek knowledge about divinity is blasphemous. Knowledge is reserved for the pope, who then does what they see fit based on that knowledge. Avan’s father has been raking in money from his farmland, which he hasn’t even seen in years, and is generally known as the social butterfly of the family, constantly getting mixed up with the wrong people. The rest of Avan’s family have different ways of making money, and his six older brothers have all already finished school.
