1) Managing Your Familiars
Back on your den page, you will find a section titled "My Familiars" (Below "My Awards" and above "Wolves")
Here, you will be able to feed your familiars as well as give them a name. In addition, you'll be able to make your familiar leave your pack. Naming and leaving are done under "Manage Familiars". Next to "Manage Familiars", you will find the number of familiar slots you have, and how many are in use.
Once selected, it should look something like this:
Now, you just type in your familiar's new name and select "Change Name" or select a familiar and select "Leave Pack" to perform the respective functions.
2) Feeding Your Familiar
Now you've given your familiar a (hopefully) easier to read name than Aku's and are ready to test them in battle. First things first, you must feed your familiar to take them exploring. You'll be able to see the amount of mush you need to feed your familiar under their name and health.
Note: Familiars only need to be fed once per day
Kondo the 79th (yeah I know, roman numerals are wack) eats 3 mush and has 100 health points. Once you feed you familiar, you'll get a notification that looks like this:
Now you're ready to go!
3) Exploring with Your Familiar
Now that your familiar is full of energy, you can take them exploring with your wolves. Once you head to "Explore" and scroll all the way down, you'll see "Select Familiar"
Note: In the event that you don't see this section, it means that you don't have a familiar capable of exploring meaning either you don't have a familiar or you haven't fed any of them.
Once you select your familiar, just hit "Submit" and off we go!
4) Battling with Your Familiar
Your familiar can be a powerful ally or a cute touch to your explore team. Regardless, they will be fighting alongside your wolves and are equally as susceptible to being attacked by your opponent.
Here you can see your familiar with your wolves. After you've picked what your wolves are going to do, the battle will start as it will under normal circumstances. Unlike your wolves, you will not be able to control your familiar; They will hit whoever they feel like hitting.
Order wise, your familiar will hit after your wolves, but before the opponent. Certain familiars will hit harder than others.
Note: More mush to feed does not equal higher damage output
Here you can see that the Gorilla, with 100 HP, hits for 60 damage! What a powerful ally!
And there you have it, that's how you explore with a familiar. It's important to note that these normal familiars will die should they reach 0 HP and they are unretrievable. It is completely up to you whether you decide to constantly restock your familiars by befriending more after they die, or you allow your familiars to rest / heal them with the "Morning Dew Elixer".
