You were supposed to be living in luxury on your new planet. New you’re stuck on this dinky planet in the middle of the Milky Way.
There are new planets being discovered all the time. Most recently, a beautiful new planet was found on the outskirts of the galaxy, with an atmosphere so malleable that nearly any living creature could survive in those conditions. This planet was immediately designated as a highly desirable place to live. Unfortunately, the small size meant only a select few people could reside there. Especially if they each wanted their own expanse of stunning land all to themselves. So eight people from various locations were chosen by the Council of Interplanetary Residence, for all different reasons. Perhaps they paid the council off handsomely. Perhaps they were the last of a dying planet, and had to be preserved. Perhaps they were a major scientist who could research this new planet. Whatever the reason, only eight were chosen, their loved ones to be sent after them (if they had any). They were sent in a ship to their new home, to the immense jealousy of thousands of other people across the solar system.
Unfortunately, something went very wrong on the way. Nobody could say exactly what it was. Some guessed it was sabotage by someone jealous trying to steal their home. Some guessed it was something much more sinister, something lurking just outside of the galaxy. Some were more optimistic and simply guessed it was a malfunction. No matter what it was, the power was cut, and the group were forced to go into their sleep chambers and stay there until the danger was over. When they finally awoke, they had no idea how much time had passed. It could have been no time at all, or ages and ages. All they knew was that they were grounded on a strange little planet. A little planet called Earth.
Fortunately, their tech had just enough energy left to throw them one last lifeline: human forms. Without these, many would have suffocated or shriveled up or any number of horrible things. They didn’t get to choose their forms, but most were grateful just to have any. They pulled information from the computer to learn all they could about this new planet and how to blend in. Although some are decidedly more adept than others, they all know enough now to pass as real humans after several months of getting used to it. Unfortunately, having human forms doesn’t mean they’re truly human. Their true forms still have effects on this oddly impressionable place. This causes occasional effects that are decidedly not human, and that threaten to expose them. These oddities might range from minor levitation, to giving humans strange visions, to being followed everywhere by birds. Just things that are out of the ordinary. And a part of their ship is missing. Fortunately, they have a read on the location, and it is somewhere on this planet. They just have to travel across this strange place to find it. Across Canada and to Mexico, they have to rush and get back before they’re given up for lost and their beautiful home is given away. But some of them are starting to think - maybe they don’t want to leave. Some, slowly, begin to like it here, but others are still desperate to get away. Without eight people, the ship simply can’t be flown. It’s either all of them go, or none of them do.
So, the question is: Can they get back home in time? And do they even want to?
