  1. What world do the human characters come from?:

I like to think of myself as pretty simple for these people, since they won’t spend much time in their human world(2 posts at most, probably)- So like, Earth. Haha.

  1. What time period?:

For the human world, aka Earth, probably modern. Just because there’s already a ton of development to be made with the non-human world and ugh.

  1. What world do the non-human characters come from?:

Oh dear, I never gave the world a name- I forgot one of the most basic parts of the world building checklist! Uh… Let’s go with… Vebreo. I like that name. Haha.

  1. What are its people like, its culture, its magic system, its cities? As many details as possible; are there a lot of adventurers, is it an anything-goes type of world, what time period, etc. etc.? (you can also mention what it is that you Do Not have):

You know what’s sad? I had most of this developed before I had the name- Haha.. Let’s split this into several areas!! Time period, people, culture, magic, and major cities that will probably be visited.

Time Period;

The time period ranges from medieval to modern to futuristic depending on where you’re at. In places that still call themselves ‘kingdoms’, they’re more medieval. These places are few in number though and don’t make up a large percentage of the world. Most places are more modernized(with a slightly more futuristic culture, perhaps, depending on how you look at it), with cities and nations. The only place that’s truly futuristic is probably The Library of Tortures.

People;

The people of Vebreo are diverse. Goblins, elves, tieflings, angels, demons, centaurs, kipirs, shifters, barghests, spectres, all of their subspecies, and literally anything else you can think of– They all exist. Most of what humans have of folklore plus some are basically here. The more humanoid ones(the more sentient ones) are the ones with most control though.

Culture;

Due to the nature of the opposites and the diversity in species here in Vebreo, most places are very accepting and open to all sorts of things. Polyamory is just as accepted as monogamy, and sexuality and gender identities are all accepted too. At least in most places. In fact, the reasons for acceptance being through the roof for sexuality and gender identity is perhaps because of The Twins, with one being androgynous with their gender. Acceptance with species is less stellar, with long standing feuds still in place with some species.

--

Of course, this world has legends just like Earth. Only the legends all revolve around The Twins. And the legends are less legends than they are just more exaggerated tellings of actual history. Every couple decades, one or both twins awake to tell a story using a group of people, sometimes after centuries of preparation. As such, some people dedicate their lives to trying to be chosen for such adventures and stories, especially since some stories end with beasts and creatures still existing that require extermination. These twins are seen as all powerful, eldritch beings. Usually only one awakes, according to turns and rules they had set up.

--

While most places have laws, there are places of ‘Dead One’s Land’ where anything can happen without consequences. Most people avoid these areas. The only ones who don’t are the aforementioned wannabe adventurers.

Magic;

Of course, magic also shapes culture- But first, let’s just go over how magic works. Then I’ll go over how it intertwines with the culture.

--

The magic system is one where some get more than others. There are certain magical abilities that species get, but individual magic doesn’t particularly exist, per se. Species and subspecies decide magic for the most part, and that’s it. When it comes to hybrids, genetics come into play and they either get a mix of their parents or the abilities from only one of them. Unless we count the magic one can learn during a aforementioned story. Which is where culture comes in a lot more. Wannabe adventurers usually want to be adventurers because of two things. Legends and magic.

--

By being in one of The Twins stories, they allow the ‘characters’ to learn magic. Whether that be by knowledge and learning from books, making deals, or just learning through experience how to use more types of magic. And the types of magic to learn usually seem endless and boundless. Enchantments for weapons, or people. Control over elements in ways that wouldn’t be possible before. Strength, telepathy, telekinesis- You name it, and if someone didn’t know how to use it before, they could learn to use it by being in one of The Twins stories. As such, the amount of people that want to be in their stories are higher than what one might have expected before. Most people though, have found that if they are meant to be adventurers then they would figure things out as they happen anyways, and thus don’t worry too much about it.

--

Of course though, I haven’t even mentioned arguably the most important of magic in this world. The Pairs. The Opposites. However you wish to address this bit, the fact remains that they are incredibly linked to the culture of this world, one’s character, and sometimes one’s appearance.

--

The tattoo showing one’s pair is visible as soon as both are born, and then will grow with one another. There are cases of pairs being repeated or of duplicates showing up. Except for certain ones, such as Hot & Cold, which has only had one pair existing at any given time. Same for Serious & Trickster, Sweet & Sour, and Brain & Brawn. And of course, there has never been a pair the same as The Twins. The tattoos show up on the same limb. If one member has it on their left palm, the other will have it on their right palm or the back of their right hand or the back of their left hand or even on their left palm too. They can show up on the ankles, hands, head, neck, torso, arms, and back.

--

Other than just the tattoo though, the actual appearance of someone can also be affected by opposites. As a pair may look the exact same or like complete opposites. This isn’t a complete given though either, as some may not look the exact same or completely different. The Twins look exactly the same other than what’s basically an inverse in color scheme. More or less. As for lineage, not every pair is related. Some are twins, cousins, brothers, sisters, siblings– But just as many aren’t related whatsoever.

--

Of course, this affects culture a lot. They’ve started wars, they’ve ended wars, caused problems, solved problems. Some fight to make pairs have to marry unless they’re related, some fight to keep it to where they don’t. Put simply, where people accept all sexualities and gender identities and where people hold grudges based on century long feuds based on species… These same people fight and solve problems based on pairs. Fights don’t tend to last long and grudges fade fast too when it comes to disagreements about pairs, but when one disagreement is settled there always seems to be a new one ready to take its place.

Major Cities;

Okay, I’ll be honest… I don’t have any of these. Or, well, I have one. And only one. The one they start in, which I didn’t actually name. Zegosh works for the name though. Yeah, Zegosh, I like that, sure. Zegosh it is! Zegosh is the capital of the largest nation/kingdom(which will be called Eyre) in the world Vebreo. So Zegosh is the capital of Eyre on the world Vebreo. This city is one that surrounds a temple that stands in the center of the city. A temple known as The Kouzai Tomb, the resting place of The Twins. As for other cities and towns though? I’ve put this off for a while, haha.

  1. If it is very fantasy-ish, would any of the characters from the original world realize the cliche?:

Maybe- It would probably depend on the character though. That would be more up to us, I think. It would be funny, but the characters might be more… Preoccupied with what’s going on to notice. At least at first lol

  1. Are they all together, or are they apart when they start off? Do they have to find each other? How would they do so? How do the characters who have already been living there realize something is wrong? How are they all contacted, grouped up, whatever?:

So… Good questions. Let’s go over the groups one by one, haha. Just so that I can keep up with what I’m saying and what was already said and gone over.

New Arrivals;

So, for the first… Let’s say 2 posts, they’re still on Earth. The first post is them going about their morning routine or whatever we decide, the second post is them getting transported to Zegosh near the temple in the middle of whatever it is they were doing after getting spoken to by some spirit thingy. These guys all end up somewhere in front of the temple, told the names of those that also showed up from Earth that they should group up with. Along with the name of someone who can help them.

Always Not Humans;

These guys get a bit of a different start. The first post is still their morning routine or whatever we decide, but the second post is them getting contacted by the aforementioned name of someone who can help telling them to come to the temple as they were chosen for a story by one of The Twins, and of course, them going to the temple. If one isn’t in the right city or too far away to get to the temple in a timely manner then the aforementioned Twin will make sure they get there on time.

  1. What do they remember when they're in that world? Do they know who they are, who they were, or that something is wrong? Would they know how to function in their new bodies?:

Okay, so they would remember. In fact, they will remember their lives on Earth completely(unless they had repressed trauma or something haha, duh). They know who they are/were, but have to figure out what’s wrong and all. They’ll know how to function their new bodies to the same degree that these bodies are humanoid. So a human that becomes an elf would be completely fine, just learning to deal with better hearing and whatnot. A human that becomes a centaur, on the other hand, would have a bit of a harder time figuring out how to function in their new bodies.

  1. When did this happen in the course of their lives?:

As each ‘story’ happens every couple decades, they’re probably at least 20. I’d say somewhere from 21 to 30, probably. This can be messed around with though as needed.

*~*~*~*

Hope all this helps to clear things up for you! And if you have any ideas for any of it that you noticed isn’t completely developed or fleshed out, then go ahead and let me know, haha!

aw fuck yeah. Fuck Yeah. Lets Fucking Go. this is SO fucking up my alley. its so up my alley, in fact, that it actually reminds me of a few worlds that i've made based off of stuff i like to see. like god damn. but anyway, anyway, let me respond to these individually so i can get my thoughts together:

1 + 2: OKAY honestly, that's fucking ideal. that is incredibly ideal. i love characters from mundane contexts suddenly having to deal with shit that is way beyond their level, it's great. this gives me a chance to just make normal ass people with average ass backgrounds.

3: yeah, i'm even worse with naming things, so don't worry about it.

4: i come up with the lore before i come with the name, too, because i just suck ass with ames, so i am the farthest from being able to judge you, aha! but more specifically:

time period; i also enjoy that! it works the same in one of my worlds. high fantasy, every species you can imagine, some places are futuristic, some are modern and some are medieval. it's better that way, i think, because i work best with modern settings (i just like the mundanity with a touch of magic), medieval settings are good for plots because of the high-fantasy or DnD feel of taverns and adventurers and bards singing of tales and shit, and futuristic magic settings are just. fun. its just fun. it's fun to see what you can come up with in those cases, though i'd imagine that the most futuristic it would get here (beyond the library of tortures, of course) is modern + advancements that can be achieved using magic? architecture and technology would get a lot grander with the efficiency people would be able to achieve with their magic and whatnot.

people; also ideal! i would assume that there's also the dangerous stuff, such as dragons, lindwurms, hydras, kelpie and the like? so, like, the non-sentient stuff that you referenced. i would imagine that hte humanoids are what make up the cities and the towns and just generally society, while the feral stuff is more so the wildlife. and maybe also the pets, to some level. some people probably have sick ass domesticated fantasy animals, but i'd imagine it'd be harder to do the more powerful you get, and some animals are just not built to be domesticated, such as the kelpie.

culture; i see! i have more thoughts on that "longstanding feuds between species" thing, but i'll remark upon that later. but anyhow, anyhow, i'd assume the twins are kind of thought of as gods, then? it's also cool, because the way they work mean that the level of people who'd want to be adventurers would skyrocket because of the culture associated with them. 'course, there'd also be people who wouldn't, but i could imagine there being a lot of people whose whole thing is trying to get a higher reputation so they can catch the attention of the gods, even if that's not how it works? so maybe there's celebrities who are considered celebrities because of the sheer amount of accomplishments they have, so they have a story to rival the Twins', basically. and bards who are incredibly popular for singing the praises of those heroes or of the tales the Twins create, and people who've slayed dragons and climbed mountains in the name of reputation and whatnot. a big celebrity culture around adventuring because of the environment the Twins created, basically.

i also love the idea of the dead one's land -- maybe the characters have to cut through one of those areas at some point because someone ran ahead, or because they need the shortcut in order to get somewhere in time? i think that'd be fun.

magic; i see, i see. it makes sense that it depends on the species, and is also pretty interesting. magic in the world probably comes in a lot of different forms, then. the twins' chosen being able to learn /new/ magic, however, is infinitely more interesting -- i especially love the idea of enchantments and it coming through a deal. i'll keep that in mind for later, eheh.

regarding pairs, does that mean every person has a pair, then? i'd assume that there's, like, an infinite amount of things the pairs could be except the few that don't have duplicates. also, if the pairs are assigned from birth and the characters who get teleported only get their tattoos when chosen and transferred over, what about the characters who've always lived there? did they already have a pairing and it got swapped out, did they not have a pairing from birth, or do some people just not have pairs so they assumed it was normal, or did they have a tattoo but just never met their pair and then the tattoo changed when their new pair showed up? or maybe the tattoos only show up when both are born, so they just assumed their partner was really fucking late? that's all assuming it wasn't that they knew they were chosen from birth.

major cities; alright, so! here's where my thoughts come in.

i think that on land, the largest cities would probably be ones in areas with a lot of different climates. encompassing a seashore, a mountain, some woodlands and some flatland; full of a diverse lay of different types of species, all mixed up near the capital but less diverse and more specific types of species the farther out you get. after all, i would imagine that a lot of species would congregate together simply due to their nature -- like, werewolves live in packs, witches live in covens, whatever. there's better examples of that, these are just hte only ones i can think of. some species in a certain neighborhood, some in another; when it comes to cities that are simply in a certain territory, however, like one in a woodland, then it'd be back to being diverse, but only to those who would prefer to live in woodlands. you'd find a lot of faefolk and elemental spirits (dryads, nymphs, etc.) there, for example. they'd be mixed up with each other because they prefer to live in the same area and don't step on each other's territory, but sometimes, people might live in the same area because they prefer it and DO step on each other's territory, making htem incredibly hostile and leading to another split. for example, in the same area where there's dryads and nymphs and faefolk all mixed together, there might also be werewolves and kitsune who are mad at each other for stealing each others' prey. as such, while they'd both be more than willing to live in the same neighborhoods as the nymphs, dryads and faefolk, they would still not be caught dead in the same neighborhood as each other. same city, different neighborhood. it all depends on that.

i think, most likely, the largest cities in the WORLD would reside in the ocean, as there's so much goddamn space there and also a SHIT TON of species that live underwater. they have a lot of space, up, down, and in every direction as far as the eye can see, there are a lot of people who need to live there, they have pretty shit such as pearls and clams and a lot of rocks to build with, etc. etc. they probably have grand cities underneath there and have a lot of tourist attractions because of it. having a shit ton of tourist traps underwater would be fun, i think, if only to see the characters go there and get starry-eyed by all the pretty lights and pearls, only to get pulled back by one of the people who've always lived there because they might get one pulled over them here by a business shark. i like the idea of an underwater las vegas equivalent, too. that might be fun.

oceanic cities would likely all be independent due to the sheer differences between different areas of ocean -- water pressure, amount of light, whether it's hot or cold, turbulence up near the surface, etc. etc. as such, they also probably tend to be the most lawless. have you ever SEEN half of the underwater humanoids, anyway? sharp ass teeth. sharp. ass. teeth. some definitely are pretty well-governed with a good law system and decent guards and whatnot, but. yeah.

i don't think it'd ALL depend on species -- like, some cities probably pat themselves on the back for their diversity because their people are taught not to care about who they live with, but it wouldn't be harmonious. a lot of the lore of some would step on the others' toes, and it'd cause a divide in any town. same goes for species that simply tend to fight with one another.

5. i call the character who does realize.

6. alright, that all makes sense to me! we're writing eight posts for eight characters in different places all at once, baby, let's go. (<--- i dont actually mind this it's just a bit funny)

7. awww FUCK yeah, let's GO. i love that so much more than if they forgot anything, honestly.

8. alright, sounds good to me! that's a good age range for me, i think, though having one character who's a lot younger or a lot older might be fun. i like having a lot of age variance.

also, regarding actual roleplay details! there are 8 main characters total, so i would imagine it'd be an even mix of those who live there and those who don't. also, out of the pairings, it'd probably be something like. one pair with both from earth, one pair with both from vebreo, and then the other two are one from each? and then for our characters, we'd both have four, two from earth and two from vebreo (unless you have preferences in that regard, in which case i do not and i can play whatever else. i would just like at least one (1) character from earth.)

also, i call trickster and brawn because i have ideas for them. you can choose yours for the other two pairs :') otherwise, we can probably randomize it.

i may be forgetting some things, but my hands are cold and i am hungry, so whatever.

1 + 2 + 3:

Yeah- Glad you like it and that my naming ability isn’t a big deal lmao

4:

Time Period;

Yeah, the futuristic places are achieved most by combining magic with modern technology. That does tend to be the best and most efficient/effective way to do that.

People;

Yep! Dragons, lindwurms, hydras, kelpies, unicorns, griffins, chimeras- All of them! The more feral stuff are basically like the animals on Earth, while the more humanoid ones make up society at large. The pets would be crazy here, haha.

Culture;

Yeah, the Twins are basically seen as divine entities. Lots of people are wannabe adventurers trying to catch the attention of the Twins, some of them are thought of as celebrities and some are just wannabe adventurers. Whole quests are done in their names, whether that be quests of knowledge or power or being a good person.

--

Oh yeah, I planned on the characters having to go through one of those areas at one point- Why else would they exist? XD

Magic;

I will say, even among creatures that have quite a lot of power, the Twins are seen as the highest. The explanation of the plot was written in the POV of one of them, the one that had awoken most recently and all. The one who the characters could basically immediately meet should they make those choices.

--

Every person does have a pair, yes! And the pairs could be as straightforward or as metaphorical. As for the questions over the main eight and how their pairings work- The ones from Earth were technically born in Vebreo but were sent to Earth, so I’m going to say they did get their tattoos before leaving. Their tattoos just turned into birthmarks though. As for the ones left in Vebreo, their tattoo also turned into a birthmark, which is seen as a ‘Your pair isn’t within this realm of existence yet’ kind of thing. Like, ‘Your pair is alive, just doesn’t exist here.’ Of course, parents, teachers, and doctors choose whether or not to explain it though.

Major Cities;

Okay- Wow- Thank you for all the feedback here lmao

I agree with the idea that the capital would have the most diverse landscape and then it gets less diverse as it goes further from the center and all. I do like the idea of neighborhoods being where you can truly see the feuds and all.

--

As for oceanic holding the largest cities in the world? Did you forget about the skies and species with wings? You better bet they’ve got some cities in the clouds somewhere. But yeah! The skies and the ocean definitely have some huge cities, though they both tend to be less modernized than land(since those guys have the easiest access to materials and technology and stuff). But yeah, the ocean would have less laws, the skies would have tons of laws(eyes and open space everywhere). Meanwhile the land has got the… Middle ground? Hehehe. I’m sorry. Anyways, yeah. Diversity probably is something cities pat their backs on at the same time as they step on each other’s toes due to lore.

5:

That’s fine by me! More may realize as it goes on but who knows lmao

6 + 7:

Yep! Just because that's the best way to start lmao

Glad you like the way it’s happening!

8:

Yeah, I’d say like- 40 would be the absolute max, just so that all the storyline still makes sense in that a story happens around every two decades and then lasts up to two decades too usually.

*~*~*~*

This is where I’m putting the extra stuff lmao

--

So when it comes to the pairs and how they’re split up? One from each pair is on Earth and one from each pair is on Vebreo, as the point of splitting up these pairs was to keep each member from finding their individual pair. We’d both have two from Earth and two from Vebreo, yeah.

You can go ahead and have the Trickster and Brawn! I’ll take Sour, but I don’t have a preference between Hot and Cold lol

alright, i think my main question /now/ is mostly, like. why do people try to get the attention of the twins? since people are born with their tattoos and so the people who only have birthmarks are the only one with a chance to be chosen and it's all been decided from birth andcan't be changed, what are those people doing? unless they're just, like. kind of doing it because they think they can change their future or something, which seems possible. sometimes people just try to do shit.

... also, honestly. i did forget about the sky LMAOOOOO. but yeah, yeah, definitely the biggest cities are the sky and the ocean. i think the skies would be a lot more do-goody than the oceans would be, considering they'd probably have a lot of ethereal types or spirits or angels and whatnot. so, yeah, lawful vs lawless, but the land is generally doing the best thanks to the sheer amount of resources.

yep, that makes sense to me. so up to 40, and probably nothing underneath 12 because at that point it's getting too young for them to even like. get what the fuck is going on. i might just keep them all within the originally given range, though, for the sake of plot stuff.

and aye, yeah, that split makes sense! as for hot and cold, glancing over the og thread, you already had a character you made for hot in the original roleplay, so i could probably take cold? i'd like my trickster to be from earth and my brawn to be from vebreo, so unless you would prefer making a new character/swapping in ian for someone else, that'd make my cold from vebreo and my sweet from earth, since ian is originally from earth.
