°《 Welcome to Skagway 》° . Plot Skagway, Alaska, was widely known for its bad weather: tornadoes in Spring, heavy rainfall during Autumn, and, most of all, treacherous blizzards and snowstorms in winter. Weather reports had noted very mild snowfall during the weeks of training and racing for the dog sledding teams of the city... they hadn't expected it to be just the opposite of mild. The annual Sledding Tournaments had just started to kick off- the different teams preparing to set off one early morning in January. The weather had been sunny and cool enough to see your own breath clearly, a perfect day to start the competition if the judges did say so themselves. The three teams had set out not long after arriving, and everything was going perfectly as planned. The run-ins with wildlife and cool bodies of water had been few, and most of the teams were even close to their first checkpoint. Then came the storm. Blizzards were a sledding team's worst nightmare, coming with many major setbacks of both time and safety. The wind and snow had begun to whip against the dogs' faces, the snowfall muting their surroundings and their bodies straining to push against the wind currents that came rapidly their way. One team in particular really did seem to have the worst end of things... the most unfavorable event taking place nearly a minute after the blizzard had picked up its pace. The wind was knocked out of the few dogs in front as they made contact with a large boulder-like object. The sled came soon after at the sudden stop and it was too late to notice the cliff behind them before the sled itself toppled and fell into the ravine below, dragging both the musher and a few wheelers with it. Now, recovering from this event, the pack of sledding dogs must face the harsh Alaskan wilderness. Will they be able to find their way to what should be a nearby checkpoint, without the help of their musher? Or will they fall to the silent and deadly cold? |

°《 Team Roles 》° . Lead Dogs These two canines really set the outcome for the entire race, they lead and push the pack to keep going, making sure that the commands of their musher are met properly. This pair is positioned first in the line, resulting in the need to be both swift and sturdy-footed. These leaders set and maintain high standards to ensure the team's best performance, and they usually adjust along the way to keep things running smoothly. Leaders must be willing to be out front when it comes to change, especially in times of rapid revision. . Point Dogs This pair is positioned right behind the lead dogs in line formation. They help steer and maneuver the team around corners and obstacles. The point dogs pull the team in a sort of arc that keeps the other dogs on the right trail and brings the sled and musher safely around the corner they are avoiding. . Team Dogs The bulk of the team, the team's core. They are the dogs that actually pull the sled and maintain the team's speed and pace. The number of individuals varies from team to team, but typically, there can be 4-6 dogs accounted for. . Wheel Dogs These are the two dogs closest to the sled and the musher. They aren't necessarily the largest dogs and are more commonly the most agile, often required to cross over the main line while headed around corners and then returning to their original position. . *Sometimes, however time-consuming, the musher may switch out dogs' positions and roles during a race. Different dogs may fare better as leaders in different weather conditions than others. Its common, after a long run, for a musher to give one of the lead dogs a break or day off and the canine will usually join them in the sled itself.* |

╔═══════ ≪ ༺༻ ≫ ═══════╗ Orion "Orr-eye-un" "Mountain Dweller" Age: 4.6 Years Old Gender: Male Breed: Mix Northern Inuit Dog 65% Czechoslovakian Wolfdog 35% Role: Lead Dog Appearance: Orion is an impressive and unique-looking male. He holds himself with great authority and confidence, his posture always alert and straight- sometimes a bit too straight, in which he may appear stiff or on-edge. He has a commanding presence that is sure the catch the eye of others when in passing. Orion's voice is rather deep and husky- it isn't too gravelly and is instead rather attractive and complements his personality and features nicely. His voice can be described as nonchalant, or even bored, when he's speaking to anyone he deems lower than him. The only time you hear a change in his tone is when he's speaking softly to pups or when he's absolutely pissed. Look-wise, Orion takes on a striking resemblance to his great ancestors. His build is rather wolf-like, with long, muscular legs, a higher body, and a lean body. He stands at a massive 31 inches at the shoulder, weighing in at around 115 pounds. His body is similar in length as to his height. He has a leaner chest, unlike the broad "barrel" chest of a dog, while his legs hold him in a powerful manner, allowing him to take on longer strides, which therefore helps with his speed. The male is undeniably built for power and strength, but also holds himself with a certain regal elegance. He has a straight and strong spine, while his back is short and slightly sloped to where his long, bushy tail meets. His paws are large, his claws sharper than most, and a mix of black and white colors, while the pads of his toes are coarse from his line of work, taking on a dark black coloration. Orion's fur is thick and double-coated, dense and perfect for long runs in the Alaskan wilderness. It is a medium length that gets longer around his chest and scruff of his neck, as well as the underside of his tail. When speaking on Orion's face, he has a slightly domed skull with a strong muzzle and jaw, flat cheeks, and triangular-shaped ears that are relatively erect and wide apart. His head is rather large and heavy, going well with his thicker neck and wider set forehead. His muzzle is rather prominent with its longer and blunt appearance, his teeth are surprisingly well taken care of and take on a sharper, white appearance. His nose is a shiny, healthy-looking black color. Orion's eyes are rather striking, with a sharp almond shape; they take on an icy blue color that peaks out of the hoods of his eyes. Now, onto this male's coloration. Orion's undercoat is more of an apricot or diluted red color. Mixed into it are light shades of cream and tan, lighter around his neck and chest, as well as his lower legs, stomach, flanks, and the underside of his tail. His coat is a light tan on the upper half of his body, his side, neck, and leading up to his head. There is a dark grey color, black strung throughout, that takes a strip down his spine that pauses near his shoulder blades, splitting off to fade down his sides. This same color can be seen at the very tip of his tail and striping in lightly to his cream colored chest, adding what looks to be the illusion of shadows. His head is a mixture of light grey and cream, with more prominent cream colored brows and darker grey lining around his cheek fur. His ears are the same cream color, with their insides being a soft pink. Personality: Cold | Alert | Independent | Protective | Active | Unpredictable | Intelligent | Temperamental | Impatient | Tender | Confident Orion is a complex character, embodying a range of traits that make him both intriguing and formidable. Cold at times, he often presents an emotionally distant facade, which can be misleading; beneath this exterior lies an alert mind, constantly observing and assessing his surroundings with a keen intelligence that allows him to navigate even the most challenging situations with ease. He prides himself on his independence, relishing in the freedom to make his own choices, but this autonomy also lends itself to a certain unpredictability that keeps those around him on their toes. She always tries to be better at everything than anybody else and just hates when others beat her in things. She is arrogant and thinks she is better and believes that she should be respected and have a higher role. She like to hunt smaller prey rather than larger prey-example: rabbits rather than deer. She prefers to be alone and hates when others step too close to her.
Appearance: Skyla is a striking 4-year-old female German Shepherd, possessing a sleek and athletic build that perfectly complements her personality. Standing tall and proud, her body is well-muscled, reflecting the strength and agility she commands. Her fur is dense, with the classic sable German Shepherd coloration—a rich blend of deep, sable browns and blacks that creates a smooth, glossy appearance when she moves. Her base coat is a dark, nearly charcoal black, and as it fades into the tips of her fur, it softens into rich, warm browns. The sable coloration gives her an almost wild, natural appearance, with hints of auburn, gold, and deep brown mingling throughout. The lighter tan shades around her underbelly and legs contrast beautifully with the darker tones on her back and sides, highlighting her lean, streamlined physique and adding to her striking silhouette, especially in motion.
