Rarity is an important feature on WolfPlay for breeding, so here's a guide to teach you the ropes.

https://i.postimg.cc/VsVGXfWv/divider.png

What is rarity?
Rarity is a tally of points based on the markings + certain features of your wolf.

Each marking has points from 1 to 5, based on how rare they are (5 points is the rarest; 1 point is the most common). Here's the list from of all the markings and how many points they add to a rarity score.

  • Points Color - 2
  • Leg Markings - 1
  • Head Markings - 1
  • Inner Ears - 2
  • Tail Type - 2
  • Muzzle Marking Type and Color - 1 each
  • Shoulder Color - 3
  • Brindle - 2
  • Piebald - 4
  • Piebald Type - 0 (this sets which variation of Piebald you want)
  • Okapi - 5
  • Leopard - 5
  • Back Marking Type and Color - 2 each
  • Speckle Type and Color - 3 each
  • Ear Edges Type and Color - 2 each
  • Harlequin - 4
  • Belton - 3
  • Somatic Mutation - 5

How to view a wolf's rarity
You can either view it directly from your den page...

or you can click your wolf's name and view the "Pelt Color" box, below your wolf's basic stats.

Coats, Noses, and Eyes... Oh My!
In April + July 2017, SixBears updated the rarity system so that certain coats, eyes, and noses will add rarity to your wolf.

In February 2018, Dynamic pelts were introduced into the game. There are currently five variations. These special pelts change due to certain circumstances (usually based on time of day/season, depending on the pelt).

The more points a feature adds, the harder it is to obtain via breeding. Below, you can see a tally of all the extra points these features offer.

    Coat Rarity Points
  • Common | +0 rarity points
  • Uncommon | +10 rarity points
  • Rare | +20 rarity points
  • Legendary | +40 rarity points
  • Dynamic | +45 rarity points

  • Eyes Rarity Points
  • Common | +0 rarity points
  • Uncommon | +5 rarity points
  • Rare | +7 rarity points
  • Legendary | +9 rarity points

  • Nose Rarity Points
  • Common | +0 rarity points
  • Uncommon | +5 rarity points
  • Rare | +7 rarity points
  • Legendary | +9 rarity points

How to tell the rarity of features
Go to your wolf's page, then view their Pelt Colors box. On the far left side, you will see "Eyes:" / "Nose:" / "Base Coat:". These will show you your wolf's basic features.

    https://i.postimg.cc/pyb9Q5dK/rarity.png

As in the above screenshot, the rarity of each one will be shown in parentheses next to each feature. In this case, this wolf has all Legendary features.

    Maximum Rarity
The current highest rarity a wolf can have is 118 rarity. This includes dynamic pelt, legendary eyes/nose, and all markings.

With common features only and all markings, the max score is 55 rarity.

These are most easily made using the custom maker. However, it is possible to breed these scores. It is extremely rare and has only happened once so far. The very first 55R wolf was born September 7, 2018. A 118R pup being born has yet to be seen due to the colossal odds.

    How Offspring Rarity Works
The offspring of a wolf will randomly inherit the markings of both their parents.

As uncommon + higher features are random, these are not inheritable. -- wip

Increasing the Odds of Marking Inheritance in Your Favor
Not having any luck with your litters? Wolves just not tossing the high rarity pups you want?

If you want to increase your chances of pups inheriting more markings, then you may find the Green Fern helpful.

This item is available in the "Apples" section of Bart for five apples.

    Common Rarity Terms
Natural Rarity | This is used to refer to a wolf's rarity with no feature bonus points.

High Rarity | This is a very subjective term based on the player. Usually, high rarity is considered to be a wolf with a 40+ natural rarity score.

R## | The "R" simply stands for rarity. The numbers tell the wolf's rarity. This is commonly seen in sales chat + the forums.

RR##/NR## | Similar to above, except it stands for "Real Rarity" or "Natural Rarity". It refers to the wolf's rarity with no uncommon+ features.

AC | All Common, meaning they have no uncommon+ features.
