DO NOT post unless you are one of the packs mentioned in the title. -- the population of x city is just about all there is of the population after the monsters came. they’re horrific things — eldritch, almost, to a point where they could kill were ugliness lethal. it’s a wonder humanity survived, nevermind thrived — within the reinforced metal walls of the city, the population is steadily growing, technology is better than ever and the monster-suppressing force is growing steadily. you’re one of the elite members of this force, helping to lead your unit into escapades into the unknown to scout for resources from fallen cities and get refugees into the safety of the city and working with the other elites to repress as many of these creatures as possible. unfortunately, even the coolest of jobs come with annoying coworkers and a lot of paperwork, both of which you have to deal with more and more as the numbers and power of the monsters outside grow. i think coming up with city stuff first and then characters would be better since characters are often shaped by their surroundings? so fuckin. name, then general details about how everything is, then little details if they come to us naturally after the general details are filled out or skip to the characters if they do not. either way. ... but on that note, i am god awful at naming things. characters and cities alike. my absolute worst weak spot. maybe we can name it something edgy because the founder of the city was a little edgy?? that might be funny

Makes sense, makes sense. I am on board with that reasoning.
LMFAO- I can maybe find some sort of name that's edgy but still has a decent ring to it-

mm... i'll be sleeping in a minute (i'll be sleeping a bit later for the coming week during my break, for the record), so my thoughts so far are very limited, BUT. i think the city could probably take place in the pretty distant future, but not FAR far. apocalypse happened in semi-modern times when the monsters came, they managed to save their best engineers and doctors and a lot of the rich and get them into a bunker for a bit, they did population control the best they could and figured out ways to fight off the monsters, etc. etc. they figured out stuff and ways to live more efficiently, partially due to past apocalypse preparation by the crazy and the rich with nothing better to do, and eventually they managed to make it up to the surface and build a little empire, which was probably around the time they started bringing straggling survivors from The Outside in. that heightened their force of people with one on one experience and allowed them to figure out more on how to fight it. as time went on, their protection got better, they figured out more weaponry, etc. etc.; at some point they managed to bring smaller, weaker monsters in for hands-on tests, their force improved drastically and a new job started rising up as using the experimental weaponry to fight off the fuckers, whatever. i'd imagine that in the beginning, they tried to keep a democracy, or maybe the leader was just the person who organized the whole thing, but as time went on it was usually just whoever knew the most about the apocalypse at the time making up a council; at some point, power may have been seized or sleazed and taken by a certain person and they'd be the main leader while pulling out all the stops in charm in order to make sure they keep it, whatever. at the moment, they probably have one leader with a bunch of other people involved. the city's thriving with a lot of modern technology, including internet. the buildings are probably made of. like. a certain type of rock or something tough like fuckin. obsidian. in order to make sure it's monster-proof whenever one DOES get in and wreak havoc, which the citizens are incredibly used to. still, architecture, weaponry and medicine is better than ever but the death rate of the fighting force is still INCREDIBLY fucking high. its like a utopian dystopia, in a way, since it's more than likely that the leaders and the suppression force are in some way corrupt. the suppression force probably has a great amount of privilege in society and get paid a shit ton if they do survive, plus they get great benefits and insurance, and they're generally pretty idolized by the public so a lot of starry-eyed kids aspire to be a part of it when they grow up, so. yeah. im gonna sleep now, but if you've got any more thoughts, wanna shoot down some parts or add some parts then let me know ^^ Edited at December 21, 2022 09:35 PM by ThisIsAPackName

I REALLY LIKE ALL OF THAT.
Because it doesn't take place too far into the future, I can assume that weaponry will still be the same and no other technology will be very... outlandish? Which is fine. Are we thinking it's been maybe like 30-50 years since the monsters invaded them?
I can say that I don't really have much else to add, at least not right now. Everything there sounds good. The leader should be one person with a bunch of people behind the scenes to help out, which I think could be a good place for drama if we wanted to throw that there.

OKAY AWESOME good to hear! and yeah, no technology should be too outlandish. work has probably been done to like. make things more effective? so there might be some better/more effective guns or weaponry made of different materials, but nothing too far removed from modern time stuff. should be the case for most things, since technology probably came to a standstill (if it didnt actively go backward) for YEARS while people figured out their shit, and even now most of the effort is focused on improving suppression, so. yeah. i think it'd be more along the lines of a hundred years, though, i think, so they have time to rebuild. it wouldn't change much technology-wise, since, like i said, they would've went back progress-wise for a very long time. aah, another thought regarding the society is that most likely there's a lot of like. leeching off of people's fear of the monsters? like sleazy conmen selling self-proclaimed monster repellent or whatever or superstition stuff to lower the chances of your city get attacked. shit like that. i think the thing i'm least sure of is what the enemy, like. is. any thoughts on that? also, yeah, one person with people behind the scenes sounds fun! they can probably have a bit of a shadow-government or some connections in general going on. might be cool. That makes sense.
I like that idea. Clearly it wouldn't really be proven either, since I would assume that literally everyone is terrified of them one way or another. I also was wondering about like, if the leader(s) or someone higher up within the city would keep some monsters and use them as like entertainment or something? That might be too far, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
Hmmm. I mean, there could be some sort of like,,, religious group within the city that believes that the only way people can properly live is if they die and reach whatever sort of version of Heaven they have, so they could be plotting to kill a bunch of important people and spread their message? Or maybe there's a shit ton of people who are just planning to overthrow the government because maybe they're treated like shit, so they decide to rebel. That would mean our characters not only have to deal with these monsters, but also people, so their idea of what's more important could get tossed up between the two.
We could also always do like an outside group or something ^^
