The Fae
Fae are, in general, not that different from one another. Each has minor abilities in their birth element and, while their appearance does give away which elemental clan they belong to, they are all built quite similar. Fae males are 7 feet tall on average and Fae females are usually 6-6.5 feet. They can be taller or shorter, though it is extremely rare to find any individual that stands below 5 feet or over 8. The Naeve and Naev'edai are usually taller.
Fae have pointed ears and varied hair lengths depending on personal preference. They are hard to age when in their prime; they reach maturity at about 100 years old, find their mates within their first nine hundred years of maturity, and can live for thousands of years. The oldest Fae usually die around 3000 years old and may not show signs of their true age until a few centuries before their death. Fae are in gestation for 50 years and will only reproduce once every 200-300 years.
The Naeve are the leaders of their clans. Naev'edai are the heirs, if you will, and are the successors of the Naeve. Not every clan needs a Naev'eda to start the RP. When the Naeve are born is often skewed, so it is not all new leaders put into place all at once.
Guards are the Naev's personal protectors. They also protect the Naev'eda if there is one. They are highly skilled in combat and subtleties, and they are always veteran fighters. Guard training lasts a century to ensure that new recruits are ready for anything that can happen.
The Pets
There are a variety of companion animals that Fae take on. There are the usual dogs, cats, falcons, and the like, and then there are the more mythical creatures. Dragons are most often found with Sky Fae, but they are a universal pet. They only get as big as a large dog. Hippocampi and kelpi are popular among Water Fae. Fire Fae tend to match up well with hellhounds, lava horses, and other fire creatures. Land Fae have the largest variety; a popular one for them is the manticore: a little bit of everything.
The Elements
There are four main elements: Sky, Land, Water, and Fire. The Fae that belong to them have a few differences, mainly in personalities but also in appearances, both of which are listed below.
Sky Fae
Appearance: Their hair and eyes match the colors found in the sky: grays, blues, silvers, slates, and the colors of the sunrise and sunset. Their skin is often grayscale or pastel colored. Sky Fae are generally taller as a whole.
Personality: Sky Fae are dreamers. They are the artists, musicians, astronomers, architects, and partygoers. They live in the now, and they know the importance of enjoying the little things in life. They are open-minded and thoughtful, but do not take them as weak or subservient. These Fae are hardy folk and their more free-spirited ways do not dull their work ethic or sharp minds. Their edge on technology is not to be underestimated in a fight.
General Abilities: Sky Fae can easily regulate their body temperatures. They will never be too hot or too cold, and they can control the area directly around them as well. Gravity does not seem to affect them as much, either. While regular Sky Fae cannot fly, they can jump higher, stride longer, and are generally faster. They have an affinity with sky dwelling creatures such as birds, flying mammals or insects, and dragons.
Water Fae
Appearance: Water Fae are made of the cool tones of the color wheel. Blues, greens, whites, and browns make up their hair and eye pallettes and their skin often has a soft blue hue to it. Their bodies are aerodynamic and they are sometimes born with webbed feet and hands. They have a sort of glistening sheen to them, almost like a soft dusting of glittery water. These Fae have sharp canines and are quite beautiful.
Personality: Water Fae are bipolar. They can be cool and composed, or they can destroy everything in their path, physically or verbally. They are as unpredictable as the waters themselves. They can be some of the nicest people or the most intimidating, ruthless ones. It is very risky to get on their bad side, as they will come after you in swarms to protect the one individual you are against. They are also party animals.
General Abilities: They are great fishers. Water Fae can all breathe underwater without gills; they absorb the air through their skin. They can move extremely quickly through water and get a sort of energy boost while in it. Marine and aquatic life are most likely to be their companion animals.
Fire Fae
Appearance: Fire Fae are on the warm color side of the spectrum. Reds, oranges, yellows, blacks, and an occasional blue pop up in hair and eyes, and their skin is usually a coppery or bronze color, though it can be obsidian or quartzy. Few of them look happy at any given time, and they are often hot to the touch.
Personality: Fiery. It can be a hot-but-cold simmer or boiling over, but their personalities are fiery. They are the metalsmiths, smelters, miners, and warriors. These Fae are more family oriented and have clans inside of their clan. They are not sociable creatures, but, when they do band together, they are formidable opponents. However, they are not a mean race and will be offended if they are thought of as such.
General Abilities: They are fireproof and heat resistant. They are relatively unaffected by breathing in smoke and ash, making otherwise uninhabitable places seem quite homely. Fire Fae companion animals are usually more demonic in nature and spicy.
Land Fae
Appearance: Land Fae tend to have earthy tones to them. Their hair can be any color: green, pink, black, blonde, brown, ombre... any color that could be found on the land. Their skin tones are earth tones. Their eyes, like their hair, can be virtually any color.
Personality: These Fae are stubborn, strong, and resilient. They have been known to endure the worst situations and come out with their morale barely dented. These Fae are unbreakable. They do not bend. They are protective and loyal, but not very social. Expect your neighbors to care about you, but also know that they probably won't be showing up to your birthday party.
General Abilities: Land Fae are incredible farmers. Almost anything they touch is guaranteed to grow. They can live without much air and are known to be excellent navigators even when they cannot see the celestial lights. They have a strong affinity with land-dwelling creatures, so many are ranchers as well.
The Deities
Fae have seven deities, though only six give their abilities to Fae themselves. The Allfather is the head of them all and is believed to be responsible for the passage of time, counting of souls, and moving the heavens. He is a constant, uninvolved with any one Fae and chooses to stay out of his children's meddling. Legend states that deceased Fae return to him and help him move the stars, galaxies, and watch over their families still living.
Skiri is the deity of Life. She is one of the major goddesses and is responsible for all things living. Skiri is the matron of strength, fertility, longevity, and prosperity. She is tied to love and hardships alike, as both are parts of Life.
Darok is the deity of Death. She is the other major goddess and Skiri's twin sister. She is responsible for the dead. She causes death and decay; as such, she is associated with emotion, sickness, and the overall absence of Life.
Turik, A'dan, Peire, and Ardun are the younger children of the Allfather, and each are associated with both Life and Death.
Turik is the deity of Water. She is the patron goddess of the night, bandits, fishermen, watchmen, and hunters alike. She is in charge of protection, amiability, passion, and travel.
A'dan is the deity of Fire. He is the patron god of the sun, warriors, and of many craftsmen. A'dan is associated with strength, ambition, vengeance, and family dealings.
Peire is the deity of Sky. He is the patron god of wanderers, the lost, and of children. He is associated with wisdom, knowledge, curiosity, innocence, and loyalty.
Ardun is the deity of Land. She is the patron goddess of those who use the earth, including farmers, ranchers, miners, and wanderers. She is associated with resilience, patience, steadfastness, strength, and renewal.
The Naeve
A Naev is a Fae that has been given the powers of one of the deities. The four minor gods' powers are given within their respective clans, while Life and Death may appear in any of the four elemental clans. When a Naev begins to grow old, the deity passes their abilities to another young Fae, who is then taught by the elder leader until that leader's passing. They have their clan's gifts as well as enhanced powers granted by their deity.
The Sky Naev can fly. They also have some control over the weather, though not much; they persuade the weather rather than control it. This Fae can feel the future rather than see it -- ominous tingling, warm feelings, a nagging shadow of a thought. They have white tribal markings across their body.
The Water Naev can calm the waters or send them into a rage. They can freeze it or turn it to steam in whatever fashion pleases them and it will not change back on its own. Much of the underwater infrastructure is made by the Water Naev's abilities. They have enhanced agility and speed. They also can't get drunk but can see the emotions and causes of those emotions of Fae who are drunk. It comes in handy when spying, prying for information, and the like. They can change aspects of their appearance as well, like a chameleon. This Fae has blue tribal markings across their body.
The Fire Naev is capable of manipulating fire. They cannot create it out of thin air, but once it exists, they can change its temperature and strength as well as maintain it once the fuel has run out. They have no trouble seeing in the dark and have enhanced endurance as well. This Fae has red tribal markings.
The Land Naev does not need to breathe. They cannot suffocate. They can also unearth stones and precious metals at will, making the Clan of Land quite possibly the richest out of the four. This Fae has extremely durable skin as well and has enhanced strength. They can also communicate with animals in basic sentences or phrases. This Fae has green tribal markings across their body.
Death and Life Naeve have been gone for so long that nobody knows for sure what they are capable of. The legends have faded into myths, but the Naeve in those stories are overpowered. They cannot bring back the dead or kill with a look. They cannot wipe out entire armies. But what can they do? They basically control shadow and light, respectively, and the Life Naev has incredible healing powers while the Death Naev is hard to kill in general. There may be more. All that is known for sure is that the Death Naev will have black markings and the Life Naev will have shimmering, almost iridescent ones of a light color.
