Plot Overview:
Knight x Princess | Enemies to Lovers | Arranged Marriage
Three years ago, the daughter of a duke was arranged to marry a knight she had grown up with as childhood friends, only to watch him leave her the following day on his way to war. He had always been a kind and happy soul, and a man that the princess had adored with her entire heart. Awaiting his return, her life was anything but glorious. Ever since a young age, her father treated her with cruel intent, giving all his attention to his eldest daughter whom he claimed as his favourite and brushing anything his youngest needed under the rug. Having hardly left castle grounds, she awaited for her husband to return to her. They only had one night together before he was sent off on his duties. Stories of her husband were told by whispering winds, carrying the tale of a knight turned commander by the slay of a powerful dragon. Upon his return in the middle of the night, he whisks her away to his fortress but a few days journey ahead. The knight returns changed, hardened and scarred by war. He was no longer the man that the princess had married, leaving tension lingering within the air. While their relationship starts off rocky and uncertain, they soon grow close and fall in love over time. Her journey to healing begins, as his devotion to her is sealed with a kiss.

Thane Emil Caldwell
"I fear we may lose, but I swear to you that no matter what I will fight until I crumble either in flesh or in mind to live another day with you my love."
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Title/Role: Knight and Commander of Etril's largest army
Voice: A natural baritone with a warm resonance
Appearance
-Thane is a properly intimidating man when compared to the average person, standing in at around 6'2" and his frame muscular. From a distance he is unnerving enough, but up close at times his features can be frightening. As a younger man his warm skin was smooth and free of blemish, but after years of war, terror, and brutality, it is now marred with history. A few deeper noticeable scars sink into the flesh along his jaw on the right side of his face which he is slightly self conscious of. As often as possible he tries to keep it covered with facial hair.
-The shape of his face is similar to a diamond, his jaw slightly more prominent. His nose is on the larger side, his bridge crooked from a fracture in battle. His lower lip is on the fuller side, and his brows are strong and dark. Thane always seems to have a slight furrow scribbled across his brow, his expression almost always one of disgruntled disdain...otherwise stoic. Perhaps in his youth Thane was more hopeful and bright, and while within he still can be, more often than not he seems to carry with him a dark rolling cloud.
-Thane's shoulder's are broad and muscular, his biceps toned. His chest is also broad, but his frame slims out a bit near his waist.
-Thane's eyes are lightly hooded and a warm hazel in color. In sunlight the brown of his eyes look more gold, flickering like mini flames.
-Thane's hair is a rich black in color, on the longer side of medium in legth. His dark waves are always a bit tousled, parted gently to the left. It is common for strands of hair from his part to fall slightly over his eye.
Personality
-As an adult, Thane is most often recognized for his level-headedness and professionalism on the battlefield. He is known to carry that professionalism into his personal life, bringing many to find him hard to connect with on any kind of emotional level. In his youth, Thane was far more outgoing and charismatic, empathetic and always looking for a good time.
-Although he looks stoic and unapproachable, Thane is and can be quite a romantic and caring soul given the right circumstances, and at heart is a very dedicated and devoted soul.
-He is easily angered and when in private the control over his emotions loosen, at times making him quite the frightening force to be reckoned with contrasted to the professional and composed commander the public eye sees.
-Brave goes without saying, but he is also devoted to the one he loves and the life he longs to live. Thane has the capability to admit when he is wrong, but years of battle have hardened his heart. Time will mend all, of this he must be confident.

Dislikes

Other/Misc
-Has chronic nosebleeds and trouble breathing at times, specifically in the morning when waking and at night when trying to sleep. This is due to an injury to his nose at some point early on in the war.
-Poor vision in right eye due to injury
-Wishes to leave behind his life as a commander and knight, worn from battle and ready to devote his time to family

Nefeli Sorsha Morrow
"I can wait for years if I've gotta, Heaven knows I ain't getting over you..."
...
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Title/Role: Princess of Etril
...
Appearance
Standing at a whopping 5'0", Nefeli is easily one of the shortest people you'll ever meet. She weighs in at around 118 pounds with a slender hour glass frame. She has a delicate, defined neck and collarbones, with her high cheekbones being the same way. Her skin is like smooth porcelain, it's tone milky and fair. The only distinguishing mark is a small beauty mark residing at the outer corner of her bottom lip on the right side. Speaking of lips, hers are plump and somewhat pouty with their hue being that of soft pink flowers. She has a dazzling smile
almost guaranteed to light up the room, though as of late there has been less and less of those smiles to be seen.
Her deep blue doe-like eyes are encapsulated by long, dark eyelashes. If one is looking closely enough, they'll find that dots of silver sparkle within the blue expanse, twinkling like little stars in the night sky. Her eyes once brimmed with warmth, but the past years had stolen her light, leaving a cold and empty shell of what once was. The princess's most prized feature is her head full of silky blonde hair, which falls to her curvaceous waist in bouncing ringlet curls. Each strand is meticulously cared for, just like it had been in the years previous when she was but a child. It is often left down, cascading over her shoulders like a waterfall, but every so often it is found tied back with a simple bit of ribbon.
The princess' voice is generally soft and smooth as silk slipping between one's finger tips. It is nearly always eerily calm and composed, never raised until pushed to the absolute edge.
...
Personality
The woman who was once a happy-go-lucky girl who held the world happily in her hands has now turned into a solemn, quiet soul. More often than not the princess can be found observing others quietly or listening to conversations as though she is a mere fly on the wall. It has been noticed by many that she no longer takes to friendly conversation or even company, preferring the solace of a far away land in books over that of living, breathing people.
Her approachableness is exactly as it seems; near at your own risk. Nefeli does not like to feel cornered or confined, leading her to lash out if someone is pressing too closely into her personal space. There are still select people she will allow near, but even then she prefers to keep them at arms length out of fear of being hurt or neglected.
Truthfully so, the princess as developed quite the attitude in the past few years. When angered she is unafraid to push buttons or boundaries, even if the other person is twice her size. She has little to no regard for her own safety when at this point. However, she can become quickly overwhelmed when voices grow loud or aggressive, prompting her to shut down and shy away in an instant.
Beneath this cold and jaded demeanor still lays the peaceful and kind spirit of the woman everyone once knew. She longs for love and to be loved, craving the affection that she has been starved from. She can still trust and care, she only needs time and patience to heal.

Nefeli
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
Night had long fallen over the realm, the moon and stars lighting up the sky like a billion tiny diamonds. It was a warm, clear night with a subtle breeze carrying the whispering of winter on its shoulders. It was peaceful, serene, and all around a soothing atmosphere to experience. Despite the fact that the majority of the castle was sleeping, one lingered wide awake, basking in the soft silver glow of the moon.
-
Staring up at the constellations of the night sky stood Nefeli, her curls fluttering gently in the wind as the breeze passed her by, ruffling the bottom of her pure white dressing gown. She was an ethereal sight as she leaned against the railing of her chamber's balcony, her expression for once calm and gentle compared to the stony features she bore during the day. Nighttime was when she truly felt alive. Her mind could wind down and actually focus as she pondered the day. For the first time in ages, she had been hearing rumors that piqued her interest since the revelation that her knightly husband had turned commander.
-
For three years Nefeli had prayed upon his safe return, her soul longing to be reunited with the friend she once knew. His smile was etched into the back of her mind, his warm touch a distant memory. However, with any luck neither would only be a memory for much longer. There had been rumors for days that the wars had ended, that those called to battle would be returning home to reunite with their families. She would not get her hopes up, though, as this would not be the first time she had heard such rumors. In the early years Nefeli would sit awake all night, excitedly watching and waiting to see Thane return, but he never did as the battles raged on.
-
Each twinge of disappointment snubbed the light with in, though this was not the knight's fault and she knew that. It was the lack of care and affection received that hardened her heart. Three years of being completely overlooked, ignored, abused, and neglected had done the Princess in, with each day only furthering the preference for seclusion and silence. Desperately she needed something more, something worth living her life for again. Only, that something was likely miles away, still warring with people or off to slay yet another grand beast fit for adventurous tales. Still, Nefeli stood there, waiting for anything at all.

Thane
~:::~
A quiet and peaceful night it was, the air comfortable with the whisper of winter nipping in the eastern breeze. All was silent save for the steady gentle clop of heavy hooves, brought forth from a sturdy and big mare, her coat a solid rich black, well groomed and shiny. A single irregular white star crowned her forehead. As an Nóniusz, she was a rare and rather coveted breed that not many knights or other commanders in the region shared or had access to.
Thane Caldwell was most known as the Etril Commander who brought down the beast who'd been terrorizing the kingdom and its bordering territories for years, but not many really could put a face to his name...until recent months, however. Stories of his travels and journey homre after the end of the war seemed to travel fast throughout the lands, sometimes people knowing of his arrival before he even got there. For the young Commander this level of notorioty was offputting and distasteful, something he didn't like to be reminded of. To Thane it seemed like everyone thought he was some hero in a storybook who defeated some big evil villain, but that simply was not reality. His reality was nothing like some superhero fantasy; it was a tortore he lived through daily, simple tasks reminding him of the brutality he had unleashed upon others. He wasn't just a slayer of beasts, as a Knight and as a Commander he had done awful things. He'd condoned awful things. For him each and every life lost was personal, especially for the men he fought alongside. Going about life after this was going to be one of the toughest challenges he'd ever face, this he was certain.
"I can defeat a 'mighty dragon, a king of all beasts' but the thought of reuniting with my bride so quickly terrifies me to my very core." Thane thought to himself as he gazed up at the starry sky. "What a ridiculous sentiment."
~:::~
The journey there was long but not arduous, in fact it was quite peaceful, but as he approached the back gates to ner chambers, his heart began to pitter with nerves. "Slow up," Thane crooned to his mount, easing her to a halt and hitching her to a tree not too far outside property lines. It wasn't hard to approach the back doors, quietly tipping off the guards for silent entry and passageway to his wife's chambers.
"You are not to tell a soul I've arrived here," Thane had instructed the guard. "Only upon my word from my lips shall you say otherwise." A threat cleanly hidden within instruction secured a window of time, a window of opportunity.
Up to her chambers, his tall frame sweeping through the hall in a dignified manner. His steps were quick but quiet, not too out of place or distracting for a place with largely empty halls and passges.
His pace slowed, coming to a halt just outside a door. Her door. Princess Nefeli, his beloved, recently betrothed. Friend since childhood, separated for years. Surely they both were such different people. One night couldn't mean anything, and yet...yet he found himself hoping that just maybe..
Knock knock.
Thane rapped his knuckles quietly against her door, glancing around before clearing his throat softly. His heart was racing, and he wasn't sure how to act. This would never work, he was a fool. How could she ever love someone like him? Maybe once long ago they could have been something of meaning but now...it had been too long, too much had changed, he was certain of it. Look at him, marred by the things he'd done and seen. Should he say anything or let her answer the door before speaking? A fool, he had nothing to give her, nothing to show for but himself. He was tired, worn, desperate for warmth and a good rest. Anxious to see her, but yet overjoyed all at once.
His wife.
It all seemed to happen so fast. One moment they were childhood teens, and then the next betrothed to one another, having shared one beautiful night together before being parted for years. To him she was still the beautiful woman he fell in love with then, but he knew surely he was not the only one to have changed.

Nefeli
⋆⁺。˚⋆˙‧₊☽ ◯ ☾₊‧˙⋆˚。⁺⋆
Truth be told, Nefeli feared that Thane would no longer want the broken individual she had become. She wasn't warm and bubbly anymore- She hardly resembled the open and affectionate wife she was supposed to be. The moment that her father married her off, she was labeled as nothing more than a nuisance, and in a way she felt as though her dearest husband and friend would feel the same way. She could do nothing. She was a burden. All she had to offer him was herself, and Nefeli had convinced herself that it would never be enough. How could it?
...
No longer content to star at the stars and brood, Nefeli returned to the main room of her chamber before shutting the heavy iron door to the balcony and locking it. There was never a chance there would be an intruder, but the security of a closed room made for better sleep when the princess could sleep. The air felt heavy, her mind still burdened with the forlorn thoughts of what her future would look like with or without her husband. Their one night together had been heavenly, but she knew there was no guarantee that the one night spent would have been enough to keep them connected all of that time. Things had changed. She had changed, and without a doubt she knew that Thane had changed.

Footsteps outside of her chamber were not a shock to the princess, as she knew often enough that guards would make their rounds or servants would scurry about in an effort to keep their own affairs in line. What she had not expected was for the steps to stop or for the sound of knuckles hitting the door to echo within the room. In an instant she felt her heart jump to her throat, every ounce of hope and anxiety filling her veins in that very moment. Could it be? No one else dared to visit her at that hour, but then again... Had it been her husband, surely it would have been a maid to alert her of his arrival first, yet the steps were far too heavy for one of the maids. It had to be him.

Uncertain footsteps could be heard padding to the door, a shaky breath being released in the following moments. It had been so long... She wasn't even sure how to greet him if it was him. Would she hug him? Kiss him as she became overwhelmed within the throes of passionate emotion? Or would she merely be able to stare in shock as she faced a man she barely knew? She still loved the memory that she had of Thane, but she knew better than to expect the same man who had left.
...
Seconds felt like an eternity as she approached the door and an entire other eternity seemed to have passed by the time she had opened it. Her deep blue eyes slowly rose to the face of her late night visitor, her soft breath catching in her throat as she laid eyes upon the face that had kept her waiting all of those years. Her eyes were awash with emotion as she froze before him, her lower lip trembling as she fought for words to speak, yet none would ever pass over her tongue.

Despite the alarm and hesitation coursing through her veins, Nefeli couldn't stop herself from throwing herself into Thane's arms. Deep down she knew that in the least he was still someone she could trust, even if outwardly she feared the reaction she would receive from giving such unexpected affection.

"It has been much too long, Thane..." Her voice was the softest whisper, her grasp wavering after a moment as she began to pull away, afraid that she might have gotten a head of herself.
