Birds. The worst thing to have ever plagued humanity with their presence. Or the best, depending on who you ask. No one truly knows where they come from. All they know is that – when someone is born – a Bird is soon to follow. As though it had just popped into existence. It will search far and wide for its owner, stumbling upon the baby only a few hours after their birth. This Bird is what determines one’s place in society. There’s the Desirables such as eagles who are born to lead. The unspoken Celebrities like peafowls, made for life in the spotlight. The Middle Class, consisting of birds like geese and bowerbirds who do the “everyday” jobs. And then, there are the Unmentionables. The Birds no one dares to touch and all fear their offspring to have. They have very little place in this world, and are nothing more than expendable.

But, there is said to be a solution. A way to correct what so many insist to be the world’s mistake. An amulet, located in an obscure location somewhere in the mountains. Few have ever seen let alone found this artifact, but it is said to grant the user what they need most. So, why not use this “magical” artifact to change someone’s Bird? If only it worked this way.
