I can't tell you my experience but maxed battle, agility, resolve with 100 CP in luck, perception and stealth can help your trainee a good bit. Make sure (especially if you have event turned on) that you have a full team of 300+ BE wolves set to defense so that the trainee gets hit less.

alright i threw together kieran's impressions of the rest of the syndicate - i'll update these as character forms are completed! for reference i think he's been with the group for a while now, probably several years at the least

Cassian
Respects him a lot. Kieran thinks he's the best person to be leading the Black Lotus, despite what some of his fellow assassins occasionally think. They aren't close - neither of them have the personality for that - but Kieran absolutely trusts him with anything related to the syndicate.

Sylphiel
He likes her. She's very extroverted and he is most definitely not, but her personality helps him come out of his shell a little. They also both turn to seduction as a way to get their marks' guards down, so they often swap stories and methods.

Draven
He likes him. They're both fairly quiet and keep to themselves, which Kieran respects. He also thinks that he's quite efficient. Kieran favoes hand-to-hand kills while Draven takes out his marks using ranged weapons, so their abilities have complimented each other well when they've gone on assignments together. He likes his company more than most of the other members of the guild.

Adelaide
He likes her. She's very cold and quiet, but he doesn't mind. He prefers her over many of the other, more extroverted members of the guild.

Mavros
Somewhat neutral. Kieran thinks he's smart and quick-witted, but they just haven't ever really had the chance to really get to know each other, especially since Mavros is so new to the syndicate. He thinks he has a lot of potential, though.

Vixen
They've both been in the syndicate for several years now and are pretty familiar with each other. He doesn't see anyone in the syndicate as his family, but if he did, she would be like a younger sister to him.

Syl’s Affiliations: (Let me know if anyone wants them changed!^^)

Cassian

Sylphiel admires Cassian's calm demeanor and strategic mind, appreciating his effective leadership. However, she remains cautious and doesn't fully trust him due to his ego and occasional power hunger. Proud to serve as his Deputy, she values their working relationship but is ready to check him if his ego (or greed) starts to interfere.

Draven

Sylphiel respects Draven's skill and dedication, valuing his efficiency and discretion. His independence and cunning resonate with her own traits, but she is wary of his standoffish, controlling, and judgmental nature. Both are strong-headed and opinionated, often clashing in passive-aggressive arguments, which Sylphiel sometimes intentionally stirs up.

Kieran

Polar opposite but she adores him. She is known for adopting introverts, so she is often hovering around him. He brings a sense of calm to her extrovertedness, balancing her quite nicely. The two have formed a bond through swapping stories of seducing their marks, sharing tips and tricks, and finding humor in their contrasting approaches. Despite their differences, Sylphiel values Kieran's perspective and enjoys the unique dynamic they share.

Adelaide

Similar to Kieran and Draven, Sylphiel enjoys Adelaide’s company, though does not fully trust her. She admires Adelaide's skill and precision but is cautious of her ruthlessness and cold demeanor. Sylphiel also notes Adelaide's use of lust and ego as control tactics, a method she shares with both Kieran and Sylphiel.

Mavros

Sylphiel has yet to form a complete opinion of Mavros as he is new to the Syndicate. She does, however, admire his quick thinking, resourcefulness, and charm, as these traits are valuable assets. While she sees potential for growth in Mavros, Syl remains cautious, unsure if she can fully trust him just yet.

Vixen

Like others, Sylphiel enjoys Vixen’s steady presence, particularly because of her tendency to correct others, which Sylphiel finds amusing. Her introverted nature and youthfulness makes Sylphiel feel protective toward her. She respects Vixen’s firm grasp on knowledge and self-assuredness, holding her in higher regard than some of her other colleagues.

Vixen's Affiliations

Cassian

Impressions

Easy to underestimate from first impressions, but she would be cautious since he is leader. Once she gets to know him to any extent she would not underestimate him. Someone worth respecting and not crossing. At least not without years of planning and opportunistic waiting.

Current Vibe

Sylphiel

Impressions

Confident, good for a leader. Vibrant and extroverted shivers go ahead and off Vixen and spare her. She would find some aspects to admire after she got to know her, but intense like in the beginning. She would have a hard time being respectful to her especially at first.

Current Vibe

Draven

Impressions

He's sooo dangerous that it intrigues her. She is definitely more comfortable around him because of the regular contact although he's not particularly personable and perfectly willing to snark at her.

Current Vibe

Kieran

Impressions

She doesn't like hot headed people. Overall, he's not very distinct to her and she probably has neutral feelings on him.

Current Vibe

Adelaide

Impressions

Adelaide would be a role model that Vix only hopes to be able to achieve (in her own way). She can attract attention and is dangerous. An object for Vix's envy. Everyone ends up butting heads with Vixen at some point. Perhaps Vix would feel a need to give her an educational lecture or find something that she is not doing efficiently and improving her method.

Current Vibe

Mavros

Impressions

Ooh, he's dangerous. She wants to be like that. She envies that he is a disciple and wants to be at least that high by now. Bit prickly. She'll just be mean to him or ignore him. But not like deliberately mean, she's just not nice.

Current Vibe

Mav's Affiliations:

Cassian:

Plenty of wolves in sheep’s clothing has Mavros come across, and plenty more times he has worn a sheep’s skin for himself. To Mav, Cassian is a more complex breed than those he’s crossed in the past. At the very least, he considers Cassian’s general demeanor respectable, highly commendable even. There’s no question to Mav as to why he’s the leader of such an intricate web of weaponized men and women, even in a short time he’s seen enough to trust in his ability to lead. But that’s about as far as Mavros’ trust extends, albeit he does see Cassian as someone he would want to learn from; either directly, or through subtle observation.

Sylphiel:

Mavros is subtly grateful for Sylphiel and her more outgoing persona, finding it more of a breath of fresh air in an atmosphere that is a bit too serious for Mav to navigate at times. Having a natural affinity and respect toward other resourceful and creative types, Sylphiel is also someone he’s not as concerned about meeting him with a blade in retaliation for indulging in the exchange of clever remarks.

Draven:

While Mavros can identify the characteristics of someone dependent on themselves, considering he is one and the same, Draven is someone that Mav is a little more mindful of when in the presence of. More so, Mavros is contemplative of Draven’s more calculated offerings of words and otherwise silence. In Mav’s experience, still water runs deep, and he is not foolish enough to mistake someone’s silence as a placeholder for a lack of things to say. This curiosity of Draven aside, he doesn’t dislike interacting with him in any sense, and actually finds a semblance of entertainment through the exchanges of conversation they do manage to share.

Kieran:

Mav isn’t one to impede on anyone who very clearly isn’t as social as he personally can be, but he is nonetheless envious of Kieran’s skill with knives. And as tempted as Mav has been to attempt to orchestrate a scenario in which he performs so badly with knives in Kieran’s presence that he garners enough pity to be the object of critique, Mavros is also reluctant to risk being an entity of annoyance too soon, especially when he’s already as new as he is to the entire Syndicate.

Adelaide:

Even having only superficially observed her, Mav would not underestimate the intelligence and aspect of danger to Adelaide. In his perspective, Adelaide's general demeanor and mannerisms bear a striking resemblance to that of a feline. She doesn't seem to be an awful person to him though, just someone who knows how to handle herself well.

Vixen:

Vixen is a character that is a bit grating in Mav's eyes, only to the degree that she reminds him of one of the priests he was raised around who was unbearably studious and often presented themself as the smartest person in a room. In any case, Mav finds himself otherwise indifferent toward her, but also wouldn't shy away from going tit-for-tat in a verbal game of corrections and technicalities if the event ever arose.

I did not in fact get this done in the time frame I wanted to lmaoo, but here are Cassian’s affiliations! These can change over time or if anyone has different ideas.

Sylphiel

Cassian believes she’s good at her job, she wouldn’t be his deputy if he didn’t think so. Her confident personality only serves to boost his opinion of her more. He doesn’t completely trust how unpredictable she is, though. He definitely has thought up plans on how to take her out if she starts getting in his way, but has no intention of acting on them yet or anytime soon.

Draven

He doesn’t have any doubts about his loyalty. He gets his job done well, and is glad for his independence so Cassian doesn’t have all that much of a need to micromanage him. He pays his due respect, so Cassian doesn’t care all that much how he treats other people. If anything, Draven being a blunt loner just means he’s less likely to rally anyone against him. Still, he hasn’t lowered his guard around him at all, although he’s not at the top of the list of people he doesn’t trust.

Kieran

Not openly adverse to him or anything, but doesn’t trust him in the slightest. Cassian believes Kieran would 100% try to leave the organization if he had the chance to, and generally just doubts his loyalty. He keeps this all to himself though, and always treats him as calmly as everyone else.

Adelaide

He respects her, a clever mind is the most useful asset for an assassin to have in his eyes. He does believe that she’s loyal to Black Lotus, but he’s still keeping an eye on her to make sure nothing changes in that regard. He's also careful to see if she ever becomes a threat to him so he can prune her branch off the syndicate’s tree quickly.

Mavros

He thinks he has potential. He reminds him a lot of himself when he first joined Black Lotus, with enough cunning and resourcefulness to get by. He’ll need more time to solidify his judgement, but he does hope this acolyte doesn’t end up becoming a threat to him in the future.

Vixen

He thinks she’s a useful tool of the syndicate, it’s very difficult for him to draw any sort of opinion of her other than that. A tool. Not that he ever admits that fact, he’ll treat her as fondly as he does his other subordinates whenever he comes to check in on her, but is probably the least attached to her (which is really saying something considering how he really only sees everyone as his tools). He doesn’t even think of her negatively either, although he wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up betraying the syndicate at some point, but he really thinks that of most people anyway.

Welcome to The Black Lotus discussion thread!

Feel free to post any questions here, as well as any plot or world building ideas! Character affiliation discussions are encouraged here as well so everyone can feel included and be aware of what everyone's character relations and dynamics are!

Draven's Affiliations

Cassian

Holds great respect for him as a Leader and a boss, but like with most people, he doesn't trust him at all. He is however, kind and respectful towards Cassian most--if not all--of the time, never speaking ill on him or voicing any ill opinions of him to any other members.

Sylphiel

Values her sense of self-worth and confidence, as well as her innovative nature. Outwardly respects her. He does however, grow irritated with her at times when she is on the more extroverted and rambunctious side, and has been known to get in light verbal spats when they both are in high tensions or in bad moods, their opinionated minds both strong and often clashing.

Kieran

Likes him and values his company more so than certain others. Will never admit that he has a soft spot for him, perhaps even a silent unspoken affection. Appreciates his skill of hand-to-hand kills and combat, Draven's own aerial skill matching well to create smooth operations when they are paired. Draven's stoic and outwardly calm nature compliments and at times may ease Kieran's more fiery temper.

Adelaide

Like Kieran, Draven likes and tolerates Addie's company more so than a few others. He finds her to be cute and charming, but can at times be irritated with her and get into verbal spats when tensions are high. Even then though, he still admires her sharp tongue and wit that often matches his own.

Mavros

General indifference due to his rank and newness, but has slowly begun to warm up to his presence. Draven carries a general respect for Mav, and finds himself at times cutting up with him in sarcastic comments and jokes, although Drav seems to be more stoic at times.

Vixen

Outwardly acts like he hates her. Will be snarky and stoic, perhaps even a bit sassy with her especially in the beginning, but secretly has a soft spot for her and believes she has potential. This slight affection often slips through in passing jokes (often laced with sarcasm) or the occasional praise.

Additional Lore (Names can be changed if not liked)

At the well hidden Church of Fallen Brothers where the Syndicate originated there is a graveyard which has been cultivated to be the Deadly Garden. All manner of deadly plants are cared for there. In the center is a little man made pond with the regular pink Lotus, but in the center of the pond is the singular Black Lotus which very few know exist. It is where the Black Lotus Syndicate get their name and the last phrase of their oath.

Perhaps they spar together frequently but also in challenge of the leadership position, and keep track of the successes of missions and if so many fail or the leader plans so many flops/or they weren't profitable enough if enough zealots oppose then the leader steps down and someone else is chosen from the zealots, and honestly anyone lower probably wouldn't be involved. Maybe disciples. Not sure

Code of Conduct

Obviously their values and their oath.

It is not encouraged to have children within the Syndicate or partners that you care about as it may cause a shift in loyalties. Only Zealots are permitted to have children, keep them, and raise them within the Syndicate. Any other children are left somewhere.

Candor's Ideas

The concept of a handler and more details on the role of acolyte

I'd say it was a lot more rare when there were more of them. I'd say on average the six month mark before they can start moving up the ranks unless they were raised in the Syndicate before they would be taken to the main hideout. They'd have lots of places where they could meet up with informants that are more accessible for both people besides the main hideout.

Ooop. I didn't think about some of these things, but I have introduced the idea of a handler for Vixen, so maybe they get a handler/mentor who would normally be a zealot but they kinda have to treat disciples as a little higher up with so few hands and it would depend on how important of an informant they are and how high of a flight risk depending on how much distance and wiggle room they'd get to operate. The other reason for the sixth month period is training.

Candor's character ideas

Female assassin

Ireshi a not very important princess of Rayong. She has become an alcolyte and received special permission to retain some ties to her kingdom as long as the Syndicate has her full loyalty. Mainly, she can keep her name without judgment. Maybe she has a Syndicate name.

A young alcolyte joined the Syndicate when they were a teenager and chose a name that was really edgy and cringey because they wanted to sound tough and fit in.

Other people's ideas

Edling's Summarized: crash/infiltrate an important event, the syndicate is betrayed/turncoat etc, stiring up rebellion

Honey: infiltrated by a spy from another organization, getting separated at an important event, the Syndicate has to travel far away and encounters another organization of assassins who try to destroy them

Bewitched: More details on what they do once they infiltrate the big event, kidnap or assassinate a kingdom's member/frame, kidnapping heirs and confusion,

so excited for this to get started :) i don't have a crazy backstory fleshed out for kieran or anything, i magine he joined the syndicate after his family died when he was young. i'll definitely get started on an impressions post tonight!
as for the heist, i noticed that a lot of people suggested infiltrating some sort of party or event to seek out a specific target, and i think that sounds really fun! i also think ireshi sounds like a really fun character; i think it would be interesting if she had the syndicate carry out missions for her in her home kingdon (i.e. eliminating political enemies)

Hello, thank you for joining this roleplay. We appreciate it and are really excited! Some ideas for getting the discussion started are introducing yourself if you have a preferred nickname or pronouns, your character's general impression of the accepted characters (I normally make an affiliation post and I can pin all of those), any backstory elements of your character that you want to be relevant to the roleplay, and I'd love help with planning out the heist. I'm still contemplating what my character will be, but I do have the above mentioned idea.
