Pride of Perils
Lions are no stranger to change, death, or challenge, living a very dangerous life from the moment they open their eyes. No pride knows this better than the Mahara Pride. With a slightly different hierarchy, the Mahara Pride is hanging by a threat, their peaceful balance on the edge of falling into chaos.
Their King has died, and while that is a blow to their power, it isn't the end for them. However, their Queen is aging rapidly, her golden years upon her, and yet she has named no successor of any of her daughters. No Heir Apparent has claimed the right to the thrown, as it isn't something they can just claim. It is something that must be earned, a tradition passed down through the lines of all previous Queens: the Future Queens are chosen by the Current, blood or not.
With her health fading fast, the current Queen, Macheeba, knows she must name an Heiress to her Throne. Her three daughters all in competition to win their mothers favor in hopes of being chosen. They know she is the only one who can name them, and while they all may be family, that does not mean blood won't be spilt.
With three different daughters all vying for the position of Queen, rallying support and pitting lions against lions, one must ask: Where does your allegiance lie? ___________________________________

Roleplay & Pride Rules The Rp Rules Follow all of Eve's and WPs Rules 1. This should be self explanatory but, Be Active. This means in Sign Ups, Discussion, and Rp. If you aren't for a 4 days, I'll remove you. 2. This is a Semi-Realistic Minimum Rp. So limited White Lions, potentially no Melanistic Ones. It'll be up to my Discretion. 3. This is also a Semi-Literate Minimum Rp. One paragraph with Decent Grammar and Spelling is required per character per post. No One-Liners. Ever. 4. I know it's a lot. But please read everything. Put blep in your form, hidden preferred, if you have. 5. No OOC Drama. While Drama is allowed and encouraged in Rp, it is not tolerated in OOC. 6. While I support LGBTQ+ , this is not the Rp for it. 7. While Females are likely to be higher in the hierarchy than males, please be realistic about fights. An adult female is unlikely to win in a fight against an adult male. There are exceptions though. 9. Please be realistic about Hunting Scenes as well. Prides hunt as a Pride for a reason. A single lioness cannot take down a water Buffalo, but she might be able to manage a wildebeest (though it's unlikely). Also, most lion hunts aren't successful. So sometimes they will struggle for food. 10. Again be reasonable about fights. You can't hit every attack, and you can't dodge every attack either.

The Pride Rules 1. The Queen is to be respected and listened to at all times, her words is law. To do otherwise is punishable.
2. A Queen may not be challenged. If a Queen is removed by the Pride, her Second will lead until a new Queen is chosen.
3. Mated Pairs must first seek permission before having Cubs.
4. Unjustified Killing amongst the Pride is strictly prohibited. Will result in exile or death.
5. Mistreatment of Cubs is Strictly Prohibited. Result is Exile or Death.
6. Queen, Second, Advisor, Heirs, Elders, Cubs and Mothers all eat first. The King may be allowed to as well. Everyone eats after.
7. Hunts are lead by the Queen, Second or an Appointed Lioness. This means no unplanned hunts.
8. Lions and Lionesses do not need to be mates to have Cubs. Both must consent though, as well as get the Queens approve for a litter.
9. Unplanned or Litters of Cubs who were not approved by the Queen may be: Left Behind or Taken from the Mother/Pair. Will add more if I think of them.

Hierarchy Explanation
Queen / Matriarch Supreme Ruler of the Pride. Current Queens choose their Heir, not based on blood, but of worthiness. A Lioness must prove herself to the Queen before being chosen. Typically a daughter takes over, but not always. In the case of a Queens untimely death, the Pride as a whole would choose a Queen unanimously, the Second ruling until then. But she is the most powerful Lion in the Pride. Her word is law, and her approval is highly sought after. To defy or disrespect her is almost a form of treason, and she is the one who decides punishments. This NOT a position that can be challenged. To challenge her for her rank would result in death, exile, or revolution. The Queen chooses who she has Cubs with, who her mate is, etc. She chooses the King.
King The King is not the same role it is in other prides. He is chosen by the Queen to help her lead, but her power is above his. If a King betrays or displeases his Queen enough, he can be removed and replaced by another. Being King doesn't mean he gets to be mates with the Queen either, nor that she will bare him Cubs. His role is primarily polítical. If the Queen chooses to be his mate, then she can, but it isn't required. That being said, any Cubs the King has have NO right to either throne. If a King dies, a new one is appointed, unless the Queen intends to step down soon. Then she may wait and allow the future Queen to pick.
Second in Command The Second is the Lioness who aids the Queen in leading. Not the same role as the Advisor, though similar. She is more physically likely to help lead. She helps train cubs, leads hunts, leads patrols, etc. She is like a brute force behind the queen, enforcing her will and making she the Queen is respected and listened to. She does advise as well, her position very similar to any Second in Command. She is also trained to lead if anything happens to the Queen and an heir isn't named. If this were to happen she would serve as Queen until the Pride chose, though she would have the opportunity to challenge the Pride and make her case if she desires. Though it is up to the Pride in the end. A Second is Chosen by a Queen. When a Future Queen is announced, her Second is also chosen, at which she will begin training. If a second dies, the Queen may or may not choose to pick another.
Advisor Thr Advisor is the lion who's sole responsibility is to help the Queen lead in a political sense. The advise on different things, and are crucial in helping new Queens make big decisions. They are also like another confidant, besides the second, someone who is loyal to the Queen above the Pride. It's an odd role, but necessary one. The role is one of the few less controlled by the Queen when it comes to succession. The Advisor is the only role that doesn't change when the Queen does, instead staying til they retire or die. However, when that Advisor decides its time to train a successor for their position, they do so with the Queen. The two will test their choice together, and if they pass, theylll begin training, if they don't, they will choose another. It's important to note two things. First, they do not have power in the same sense as the Second. They are a respected position, but they lead nothing, and weren't trained to. Second, they are usually female, but can be male.
Heirs
These are the daughters of the Queen, in this case there are three. Only her daughters are considered heirs, her sons not able to succeed. All her daughters have the same dominance or standing in the Pride until they are mature adult. Once they reach adulthood, they will have to find their footing in the Pride. This will help the Queen choose the next. Once an Heiress to the Throne has been chosen, the other daughters are referred to as Hunters/Huntresses, or Guardian if they choose. Before one is chosen though, the adult daughters will try to establish themselves within the Pride, and garner support. It's important to note that not all daughters have to want to be Queen. If they do not, they can make it known, but that doesn't mean they won't be chosen. A Chosen Heir cannot say no, and they do not have to be the Queen's Daughter either.
Guardians These are the cub sitters or mothers of the Pride. Their sole purpose is to take care of the Cubs in the Pride. Guardians have to types of Lionesses. Those who are permanently Guardians, so the females who take care of the Cubs as their constant role. And the females who are mothers. Mothers only act as Guardians until their Cubs are weaned. There is always at least one nursing female with the Cubs if any of them aren't weaned. All together, they are fierce females, dedicated to raising and protecting the Cubs of the females in the Pride. When the Queen has Cubs, one Guardian will be appointed the Royal Guardian, and her sole purpose will to be caring for the Queens Cubs when she isn't there. It's important to know that true Guardians will die before harm comes to any cub. They are respected among the Pride. They are also usually all female, as males aren't always trusted around Cubs unless he fathered them. Occasionally, though, a male will be allowed to be a Guardian but he will never be left alone with the Cubs.
Huntresses Huntresses are the bulk lionesses of the Pride. Do not let their title fool you, they do more than just hunt. They patrol, they fight, they do every job there is in the Pride, and they do it along side the males. There is a mild hierarchy among the Huntresses, the strong willed and fiery females often asserting themselves above the softer more quiet females. Often times, they will assert themselves above the males too. A Huntress is never left behind though. If she is injured, the Pride will care for her. If she is permanently disabled, they won't abandon her, they will find ways for her to benefit the Pride.
Defenders Defenders are the bulk males of the group. Like the Huntresses, they do a bit of everything and are expect to. Males are valuable, but since the hierarchy swings more towards females, the males have to prove themselves regularly. If a male proves to be useless or is trying anything to usurp the Queen, they are quickly relinquished of their position in the Pride. They aren't treated poorly, but they don't have the same standing as lionesses do. This being said, some males, respected and strong ones, can hold more dominance than the females.
Cubs These are the lions who are all under the age of two years old. They are to be cherished and protected within the Pride. Once Cubs turn a year old, they begin training. While female Cubs usually stay within the Pride, there is a chance the males will be ran from the Pride.
Elders These are the elderly lions of the Pride. Once a Lion or lioness reach the age where they can no longer perform, they become an elder. Typically an elder is no younger than 10, and they are never forced to step into the position if they don't want to. So if a lioness wants to hunt until her last breath, she is allowed to. Elders are highly respected though, and often become Story Tellers and help train and watch Cubs.

Non-Pride Roles
Nomadic Males
Maximum of 4 for the Rp. These are the Males who are without a pride. Being pushed out of their natal pride between the ages of 2 and 3, these male lions are in search of a new place to call home. Their goal is to either: join a pride, take over a pride, or make their own. Traditionally, Nomadics, or Rogues, are not well received by prides, as their presence is often perceived as a threat unless proven otherwise. Typically these males will be run off by the Pride Males, not allowed to be around the lionesses or cubs, though that doesn't always happen.
Lone Lionesses
Maximum of 2 for the Rp. These are the Lionesses who don't have a pride either. Not as commonly seen, but for reasons that vary greatly, lionesses occasionally wander without a pride or place to call home. Similarly to Nomadics they are also looking to join a pride or start a pride, perhaps even take over one. However, because they're a lioness, they aren't perceived as a threat as much. This means their chances of getting into a pride, or finding a pride male to leave with to start one is significantly higher than a Nomadics. |

Who Do You Think Should be the Next Queen?:
That's the Million Dollar Question isn't it? Who does she think should be the next Queen? If only it were that easy. Appearance:
A withered shell of a lioness, Macheeba is merely just a memory of the lioness she was before. Once a great and powerful female, the strength from her younger days lingers in her ages frame, reminiscent of what she once was. There is still elegance in the sloped curve of her back, though her physique looks much more frail than it used to. In her prime, Macheeba stood at 3.5 feet tall, a rather large and strong Lioness. She remains her powerful height, but with age her posture has deteriorated and she rarely stands at her full height anymore. In the past, Macheeba weighed about 380 lbs, but with time she has lost weight, unable to keep herself at a desireable weight. Now she appears skinny, almost brittle. She only weighs about 265 lbs, so she still have some strength to her, but nothing like before. It's obvious when looking at her though that she is deteriorating and likely doesn't have many years left in the world.
At a close inspection, the lioness has the typical tawny color for her coat. However, with her age and the scars on her body, it does appear more drab than others. It has lost its golden hue, and instead is more of a dull tan color. The lioness still has a beautiful elegance to her, grace making the stiff movements of her aged bones less prominent. She does have scars that litter her coat, not unfathomly so, but still notable. Besides these scars, Macheeba also carries worn teeth, decreasing the capability of her bite, as well as she is missing her upper right canine tooth. Her eyes, which have a bit of a foggyness to them, are a soft gold color with the slightest green hue.

Personality:Macheeba is a lioness that seems to be the personification of grace. The lioness is one who carries herself with poise and dignity, even with her age she manages to carry herself with pride. Macheeba is known for several things, those primarily being just, fair, and kind. She has been devoted, dedicated, to her pride since day one, and everything she has done has been to better the pride. She is a kind and caring creature, one who loves each member of her pride, and has taken the time to get to know them individually so she may know their needs in the future. However, the female is also fair and objective, able to handle things without letting her emotions or feelings get the better of her.
However, the past year has been hard on Macheeba. Not only has she lost her love, her mate, her King, but she also is faced with the pressure of naming the Future Queen. Unfortunately, seeing the good in everyone has made it difficult for her to choose, but also she is afraid of failing. If she chooses wrong, all her previous work will mean nothing. Her grief and worry has turned Macheeba into a rather sorrowful creature, not quite the same spirit she was the years before. Unfortunately, this toll on her mental health has caused her physical health to worsen, and part of her, a quiet part of her, knows she doesn't have long left in the world. And, the worst part? That part of her is okay with that.
Like she is physically, Macheeba is also a shell of who she used to be personality wise. She used to be a strong and fierce queen, while also being fair and kind. She still can be those things to an extent, but she has her limitations. Now, though, she focuses on primarily being kind and just, leaving the physicality up to the younger lions below her. However, she has traded her physicality for wisdom and patience, so there is little the lioness cant handle in that respect. One day, she hopes to pass on all her knowledge, hoping her last act is to guide the future queen into her role. Crush: None Mate: Deceased Cubs: Three daughters; All of Whom are Open

Zion is a male of considerable stature, though not the biggest brute in the world. He stands at about 42 inches tall, with a athletic build. He isn't obscenely bulky like some males, but also not entirely lean like others. He has a more balanced and muscular frame that allows him to contend with any foe he comes across. Of course, brute strength goes a lot further in the lion world than speed, which puts him at a slight disadvantage against larger lions, but Zion's combination of balanced figure and experience helps round him out against even the largest opponent.
Zi has a rather striking appearance for a male lion, having a more golden pelt than some males have, with a luscious mane of varying color. His underbelly is a paler cream color, though it melds well with the base color of his coat. His mane, which is nothing to scoff at, is thick and heavy, carried around like a proud crown. It starts at a sligtly darker golden blonde color than his coat, and transitions to be a deep, dark brown near his shoulders and chest. His eyes are also a rather bright gold color, and his scent is something smoky and woody, but comforting. The male holds deep baritone vocals,
Zion is not without his scars, many of them marring his figure. Being an experienced male, and a king at that, the male boasts several scars, though none of them are worth mentioning more than once. However, they are a testimony to the male's battle prowess and capability to hold his own.
Personality:Zion is a male that kind of holds traits from either side of the coin. Towards males and unwanted foes, the male is a bit of a brute. He is uncaring for their reason, and will act with sheer and drastic aggression to keep his bride safe. He has no qualms against violence, and will throw it around to ensure the success and triumph of his pride. However, that is primarily where those brutish traits end.
Zion is a respectable and honest male, one who brings a calm, level head and wisdom to the table. He tries to be understanding and patient with others whilist he gets to the full story. If there is a mistake that's been made, his will rule out a fair and just in his opinions, but he doesn't let things go to spare others. Still, as stern as he can be during these times, and as serious as he protrays himself, the male is of a more calm and gentle nature.
He isn't a pushy male, preferring to explain things from his point of view with calm and rational logic, trying to keep emotions out of it. Still, the male is far from a ruthless brute, and prefers to be seen as a fair and trustworthy male. He does his best to act responsibly, and be reliable to those around him. The even tempered male probably has a bigger softer side than he does an aggressive one.
It's true, though, Zion is a rather dedicated and devoted male, loyal to his pride and any lionesses who claim his heart. He adores cubs, and never hesitates to help out with them, even if they may not be his. Even towards lionesses, he can be affectionate and attentive. Of course, Zion also has a flirty side, and this might be one of his downfalls. He enjoys flirting with lionesses, and doesn't see himself as a male tied down to one female. If he ever was, it would be one hell of a lioness, and he wouldn't mind it. However, his affection for the ladies can cause a bit of a rift between him and others males, and even him and the lionesses.
All of that being said, it's important to remember that Zion is still a male lion. He doesn't enjoy being challenged or talked down to, especially by other males, and does have a limit to his patience. A kind and caring male, he's still capable of great feats of violence and aggression if he's pushed enough. It's also likely important to note that Zion is also relatively ambitious. He won't force King-hood on himself, but a high rank is something he desires nonetheless.
It's also important to note that, Zion might be this respectable and mature male, however, all of that is thrown out the window when he's with his siblings or childhood friends, or his mom. He's a big ole mama's boy, who turns into a giant cub when he's with those who he can let loose with. Him and his best friend though? The two of them, together, are a whirl wind of trouble.

Desired Rank:ContentThoughts on the Harem Lionesses: They are parasites to her, mere thorns in her side. She doesn't view them as a threat to her or her throne, though she thinks they're just more useless mouths to feed. Which basically makes them a threat to her pride since they aren't providing anything to it. She's disgruntled by their presence and wants to see them gone, and she isn't going to be too kind about making that happen either.
Appearance: 
Nkiruka is a female of rather large size, though not the largest beast out there. She stands at about 3.8 feet tall, or three feet and a little over 9 inches. This makes her at a rather tall height, but not the tallest a lioness can get [which is 4 feet for this rp]. True to her nature though, the female is relatively hefty, and weighs about 391 lbs, almost maxing out the scale for lionesses [400 lbs is the max for this rp for a lioness]. This makes her a rather large and broad creature, built for bringing down prey rather than chasing after it. There are certainly leaner females out there that can chase after things for longer and faster than she can. Though, like all lionesses, she can sprint a short distance at a relatively quick speed.
Ruka has a broad physique, as she's started going through the changes an adult lion goes through as they age into the "old adult" stage of life. Her head has broadened, causing her ears to be stationed further apart. This gives her head a wider shape, making it appear larger than it once was. Her paws are like shovels, with long, three inch curved claws at the end of each toe. Her legs are well muscled, packed with muscle that's like coiled springs, allowing her to move in a fluid, almost graceful motion, and take off at a sprinting speed at the drop of a hat. These muscles in her legs are also what allow her to propel herself up to take down prey even larger than herself.
The Queen has a rather unique appearance, but not one that's entirely uncommon among lionesses. She has an atypical tan coat with obvious charcoal grey hairs mixed within it [see the first picture], that gives her an overall darker, grey hued appearance. She's still very obviously a tawny color, as the color can be seen on her chest and sides, but the grey in her coat makes her easier to identify when in a group. She has a lighter and creamier underbelly color that melds well with the tawny bade, and none of her cub spots remain any longer, making her a canvas of tan. She has the familiar black semi-circle markins on the tops of her ears, and her nose as begun to turn fully black as well. Her tail tip is black in coloration, and her eyes are a pale gold in color.
While Nkiruka is not a young lioness, she isn't really an old one either. She has scabs on her ears where fur no longer grows due to age and scuffles. She still has all her teeth, though an bottom canine tooth [the left] is slightly chipped. Her tail, at the very end, crooks a bit from where it's been broken in the past. Along with these, the female has varying scars scattered across her body, though none of them are from anything overly noteworthy. All together, everyone of these unique features shows that Ruka has lived life well, sometimes a rough life, but she has lived nonetheless.

Ruka is not a lioness who is poised, polished and elegant. She's regal in the way that the her natal pride, the Sangaya Pride, is: Harsh. She's all rough edges and sharp curves, and leads her pride with a firm, but steady paw. She doesn't have patience or time for nuisances or stupid, petty drama, and she isn't going to lower herself to it. Does she see the heiresses as a threat to her directly? No, they're nothing but mewling cubs sometimes. However, she knows that the wrong one chosen to be Queen could be an utter disaster for the pride, and that doesn't sit well with her. This is her pride, and she will do whatever it takes to remind everyone of that.
Nkiruka is not a female you want to get on the bad side of, though to say she has a good side isn't exactly true either. Her "good side" is merely her tolerating others, and not making their lives miserable. She is not a gentle creature, nor a sympathic one. You will not find comforting words or loving affection from her, if you seek out comfort from her, expect it to be an empty silence. Her bad side though? Is much worse. She will remind you quickly where your place is within the pride, and will make your life nothing more than walking on eggshells. She will not only physically ruin you, but she will verbally and mentally dismantle you as well. She isn't one for mind games, but she doesn't need them to make you second guess every decision you make.
The lioness is callous and aloof by nature, someone with a fierce attitude towards all things, and won't hesitate to throw herself into battle. She will always do whatever it takes. Nkiruka is the unmovable object. Her abrasive and blunt nature isn't anything to take personal, it's just who she is, but if you're a lion of sensitive nature, it would be best to thicken your skin, and quickly. She isn't going to change her tune for anyone, she is who she is, and she isn't ashamed of it. She isnt a huntress for a delicate and poised manner, she was chosen to be one for her dedication and determination, and a ferocity unmatched by many. When there is something she wants, whether it's for her pride or herself, there is little that can stop Nkiruka from getting it. She fought for her pride on more than one occasion, and she will continue to do so until the day she no longer draw breath.
Nkiruka is a rather dominant lioness, one who doesn't even bow down to the power of a male, though she respects the lionesses who are worthy that are above her. She is more likely to scoff or sneer at the males though than to be impressed. It takes a lot to win the female's approval, though once you have, don't be fooled into thinking you've earned it indefinitely. No, if you slip up once, the tide will change, and you'll find yourself no longer in her good standing. She's a rather unimpressed creature, someone who is indifferent, almost apathetic, towards others until they've proven their use or value to her.
The aggressive lioness is a protective being, and mildly maternal towards her own cubs, and some of the younger lions as well. Not drastically so, she's by no means winning mother of the year. But you raise a hair in the direction of her cubs in the wrong way? She will absolutely make you regret even laying eyes on them. She may not be the best mother, but she will not stand to let anything hurt one of her own cubs. Doesn't matter who you are.
Overall, Nkiruka is a rather stern and harsh lioness, but she's earned the respect of her pride through years of hard work and steadfast reliability. Not the easiest lioness to get along with, but someone worthy of her title that you would absolutely want on your side at the end of the day.

Nkiruka was not born in the pride, and was the aspiring Lead Huntress, basically the Second in Command, of her natal pride. She left when things in her natal pride began to devolve because of tensions growing between the Males and Females. So, she left, determined to find a new, better life for herself. She's been in this pride for a little over a year now. Part of her longs to go back though and take over the pride she left, if there is anything left of them at all.
