The Moon Chronicles

Book One: The War

Chapter One

Moonshade

The scream. The loud, blood curdling scream the last archer made as Moonshade struck him down with her claw. The blood on her black scales reflected the sunlight. She felt something spark inside her. It wasn’t joy or happiness, it was different. A sort of comfort, as if the adrenaline in her was doubling. She breathed heavily, and looked around at the bodies of the knights and archers that thought they could challenge her and live. Humans, she thought. They think they are so powerful. Gods.

She had met plenty of strong humans, such as Dunan, a brave little Dwarf, and Ulric, a power-driven knight. Ulric was easy to kill for she turned his weakness against him. He was courageous and naive, so she used a surprise attack and caught him off guard. The Dwarf, on the other hand, was a different story. She had spared him, for he respected dragons, and was only following his lord's orders. Or at least that’s what he had told her. But she believed him. She could tell he wasn’t lying. But she made him tell her his lord’s name, for future reference. She learned his name was Rowan. She made it her mission to kill this so-called “powerful” human.

Moonshade stretched her wings out and jumped into the sky, breathing in the cold, pine scented air. She was tired, and hungry. She flew over to the top of her mountain, which the pathetic humans had named after her, and on her way she decided to set fire to a couple houses and watch towers, just because. She dived down to the entrance of her cave at the top, and was surprised to see Frostbite standing in front of it accompanied by Cloudhorn and Seaweed.

Moonshade was even more surprised to see Seaweed there. He was such a skittish dragon and she knew he was afraid of her. Cloudhorn sneered at Moonshade with her scarred snout and amber eyes. Seaweed was looking around nervously, most likely trying to find any archers sneaking up on them. A likely story. No human came up here. “Moonshade,” Frostbite said in his icy, vibratory voice. “The Dragon Council has requested your appearance tonight when the moon is halfway across the night sky. The meeting shall be held at the abandoned house of the baker.”

His blue and silver scales reflected against the sunset. Seaweed was hiding behind Cloudhorn’s enormous wings, but she hissed at him and he jumped away. Moonshade looked back at Frostbite. He was big for an Icewing, but Moonshade was slightly bigger, but she was still intimidated by him. He had many battle scars and was missing bits of his wing and the end of his tail. His neck spines were also dull and clawed off. She didn’t mind going, but she didn’t like to be ordered around, or in this case “requested.” “What is so important we must go to that old dusty heap?” she said. “Have the humans declared war or something?”

Frostbite wouldn’t meet her eyes. She looked at Cloudhorn and Seaweed. Seaweed went back to his hiding place, shivering with a fear that Moonshade would go on another killing rampage. Even Cloudhorn wouldn’t look, which was surprising, for she never missed a chance to glare at her. “You aren’t serious,” she said. “The humans think they stand a chance against US!? Why are you acting like this is such a bad thing?”

“You don’t understand!” yelled Frostbite. Moonshade jumped back a bit, surprised, then quickly recovered herself.. Frostbite was always the calm one who worked well under pressure. He never yelled. “This isn’t like the Battles at Drakon Harbor! We can’t just swoop in, set the boats on fire, and then fly away!'' Moonshade remembered the screams and yells of the humans as if they were surprised that they were easily defeated. “They are strong now.” Huh. Sure. They are humans for Irene's sake. Frostbite continued to growl at Moonshade. “I know what you're thinking. ‘Oh humans are weak! They can’t be powerful!’ But they have someone now. Rather like something.

“Ugh,” Moonshade said. “Stop dramatizing things! They probably just found a dragon egg and are trying to train it to be theirs. I hope it’s a Rainwing, then it can spit poison in their faces.” She clamped her talons together and giggled, imagining the scene. Suddenly, Seaweed yelled, “Eep!” as he scrambled onto Cloudhorn. “Get off, kelp breath!” she yelled as she tried to buck the scared little Seawing off.

“Oh wait, it’s just him,” he said with a sigh of relief. Confused, Moonshade turned around, and what she saw made a surge of pure rage run through her body as she saw a wizard slowly walk towards them.

This was HER mountain. No human was allowed on it. Moonshade didn’t mind the animals coming. Actually, she enjoyed their company (apart from when she ate them, cows were her favorite). But this was definitely a HUMAN. A filthy, weak human. Moonshade threw open her wings and growled with pure anger. Her eyes showed no mercy as the wizard looked up at her, terrified. She would tear him into pieces and use his bones as toothpicks. She launched herself at him, claws ready, mouth open, when she felt wet, slimy talons close around her arms. She whipped around to see who dared to stop her, and she was surprised to see Seaweed’s soft, regretful eyes looking up at her. “I’m sorry,” he whimpered. Suddenly, she felt his fist slam into the back of her head. Her vision went dark.

Chapter Two

Moonshade

“Uuurrgh...” Moonshade grumbled quietly as she rubbed her sore head. “What the heck happened?” Then she remembered. The wizard. Frostbite. Cloudhorn. And Seaweed. I’m going to rip that shrimp’s wings off, she thought. Then she felt bad for him. He was probably curled up in a ball sobbing like a little dragonet. Before he knocked her out, he made it clear he didn’t want to. He must have been following orders. Frostbite. How could he make Seaweed do that? Frostbite knew that he was terrified of her. Cloudhorn would have been more than happy to.

She slowly opened her eyes to a torch-lit space with a small bed that she had been plopped onto. She sat up and looked around. She suddenly felt a pain in the sides of her chest. She looked down and saw five big scratches cut into each side. Cloudhorn, she thought. She must have carried me here. It made the most sense for the one with the largest wings to carry her.

She noticed she was thrown into a loft. She peered over the edge slightly but could only see Seaweed hiding in the corner. Poor Seaweed, she thought, He probably thinks I’m going to pull his talons out. She looked down at the bed and sniffed it. It smelled of dead mouse and humans. She hit it, angry, and a poof of dust and what she hoped was flour exploded into the air. She sneezed loudly.

“She’s awake!” A voice shouted. Moonshade wondered whose it was. It was deep like a Mudwing’s but hard and choppy like an Icewing’s. She heard scrambling and jumped slightly as a ladder was propped against the edge of the loft. She quickly closed her eyes and tried to look as peaceful as you can while you are crammed into a small bed with cuts and bruises. She heard the voice again, this time it said,

“Must have been a cat?” The dragon hobbled down the ladder and she heard quiet, hard voices as if they were in a deep discussion. “We need to go before it’s too late!” a voice said. She recognized this one. It was of Frostbite. That traitor. She was going to rip out every one of his icy neck spines.

Then she heard a different voice, a deep, hoarse voice. It was one of a man. Of a human. The wizard, she thought. That ungrateful fleshbag. She would tear him to pieces. She sat up but crouched to avoid being seen. She was ready to pounce. “We can’t!” yelled the wizard. “We don’t know if we can trust her! And she isn’t even awake!” This was her chance. Suddenly, she leaped down with her wings open to slow her fall. She landed right next to the wizard who looked up at her with a terrified look on his face. “Oh yes I am,” she said with a smug expression. She grabbed the wizard’s left arm and held a talon up to his throat.

The dragons gasped in awe and fear. There were about ten, including Frostbite and the other two. Even Seaweed stopped sobbing and looked up, but when he saw Moonshade looking at him, he popped right back down. “Moonshade!” Frostbite exclaimed. “How did yo…?” “Shut up you cold-hearted slush,” Moonshade snapped. “You traitor. How dare you order someone to knock me out, but of all the dragons in Tylos, you chose SEAWEED.” At the saying of his name, Seaweed jerked his head upward. “You know he is terrified of me,” she continued. “Cloudhorn would have happily done it!” She looked around and saw Cloudhorn nod, for once in agreement with her.

“But of all the things you've done, you then conspire about me with a HUMAN!?” She looked down at the fleshbag in her arms. “This ends now,” she muttered. But just as she was about to slice the pathetic creature's throat, her ears perked as she heard noise coming from the framing above her. She hissed as a group of humans dressed in black jumped down and surrounded her. They had swords and masks of black sheep’s wool. She threw the wizard and he went soaring above them, landing (sadly) on a bed in the corner opposite of Seaweed.

The human's eyes followed the old man's body as it flew across the room. A perfect distraction. Moonshade thought as she suddenly swirled around and knocked two of the humans of their feet. She scratched another down. The other five made their move. Two got their swords ready but she easily knocked them out of the way. She glared at Frostbite with pure hate in her eyes. “I will see your blue blood,” she said as she blew fire aimlessly at one knight, “if it is the last. Thing. I. Do.” Suddenly the last human swiftly slid under her stomach, and with the hilt of his sword, he banged her on the back of her head. And once again, her vision blacked out.

Chapter Three

Frostbite

Of course the Council chose Frostbite to go and kidnap Moonshade. Well, it wasn’t supposed to be kidnapping. She was supposed to come willingly. He was supposed to be able to sleep that night. Well gods, the humans weren’t supposed to declare war, and now look what’s happened. He was a bit scared of her. Hearing her swear she would see his blood made him want to fly to the tallest mountain and stay there. Then he thought of how scary The Council would be when he told them that after they stole her, a human and another Icewing did.

He did think it was weird that a human was helping the dragons fight his own kind, but he had never questioned it. He couldn’t. He was the calm one. But that look the Icewing gave him. He could have sworn he’d seen it. Her eyes still scorched his soul. But of all the crazy things that had happened, then the wizard attacked those black warriors. And then another dragon appeared out of nowhere and picked up Moonshades unconscious body. He and the others were too shocked to stop her or even move. And now they were flying well after midnight, trying to find any trace they could of them.

Cloudhorn was off to the side somewhere, not wanting to be part of anymore of this idiocy. Seaweed was behind them, probably still scared Moonshade was going to pop out of the shadows and steal him away to some dark place with eels and sharks. He looked up at ahead and saw Pine leading them around. Something he should be doing. He had never seen a Mudwing-Icewing hybrid before, but she was beautiful. “Come on! We’ll find them!” she yelled optimistically. “Oh Cloudhorn! Stop being such a grumpy-pants!” Cloudhorn somehow managed to look even grumpier. “I’m flying in the middle of the night, cold and hungry. And, oh, look!” She said sarcastically. “The gods have heard my prayers! It’s frickin raining.”

Frostbite hadn’t even noticed that it was starting to drizzle. He looked back behind him at Seaweed twirling around and playing in the rain. Seawings. He grumbled to himself. “Uuugh.” Jackrabbit said. I’m going to look on the ground.” He started to descend. “Take me with yoooooou.” Cactus groaned as she joined her fellow Sandwing. “Frostbite this is useless.” Toad moaned. His Auburn-brown scales almost blended in with the night sky, but his moon-reflecting scales gave him away.

Then he thought. Moon. He had totally forgotten about her. Frostbite looked around at the council members. Cloudhorn looked miserable,Seawing looked scared, Pine looked happy, as always.

Suddenly Cactus soared upwards, almost crashing into Tuna, a young Seawing with the personality of a dragonet. “Yay! Let’s wrestle!” He yelled as he tried to smash himself against Cactus. She dodged him and he went tumbling out of the sky landing in some hay below. Frostbite could see him rolling around and throwing bits of it into the air and watching it fall. “Cactus! What’s wrong?” He stammered. Maybe the Sandwing was just freaking out because it was raining. She looked wet and miserable and grumbled as if she would rather be burned alive then have to be there. “It’s not what’s wrong! It’s what’s right!” She said hurryingly. Or maybe she hit her head and suddenly enjoyed rain.

“What do you mean, Cactus. Slow down.” Frostbite said slowly. “But...Uh...She…We…” Cactus stammered as she gasped, trying to get a breath. “We found her! We found Moonshade!” Frostbite gaped. This was worth it. He wasn’t going to be exiled from The Council. “Where!?” He yelled hopefully. “Down there!” Cactus said as she pointed to a dark forest. “Me and Jackrabbit went down there to get out of the rain! We heard voices and saw a little cave! The human and the Icewing are in there! And so is Moonshade!”

Frostbite didn’t wait any longer. He pushed his wings hard against his side, feeling then rain hit his face like icicles. He enjoyed it. He opened his wings and landed in a puddle with a splash. Unfortunately for Jackrabbit, he was standing right there, and got covered in mud. “Yuck!” He yelled trying to shake off the mud. The others landed. Pine and Cockatoo both squelched their toes excitedly, happy to see mud. Cockatoo was an odd Rainwing. She loved mud for some reason.“Where is it.” Frostbite said quickly. Jackrabbit and Cactus both pointed their fingers deep into the forest. Frostbite followed their old talon marks in the mud until he came up to a cave. Then he saw the Icewing.Suddenly his legs melted as he stared. Then the others came. “So what are we going to do?” Seaweed said. “Not we…” Frostbite said as he whirled around. “You.

“Why do I have to!” Seaweed complained. “Because you're the least threatening.” Frostbite replied as he shoved him towards the entrance of the cave. “Uuuugh she’s going to pull my tail off!” He complained. “ No she won’t. ” Frostbite reasoned. They were at the entrance of the cave. “Now, ust say you were worried about her so went to look. Then you found them. Ok?” Seaweed looked at him with scared eyes. “Do I have to!?” He whined. “Yes! Now Go!” Frostbite yelled as he shoved Seaweed in. “Uh. Hi. I was winging through the… I mean walking. I was walking. Yes. Through the forest. Looking for…” Frostbite put his claw over his face as Seaweed awkwardly explained why he just stumbled into their cave. Then he heard it. The beautiful, icy voice of the Icewing. He peered through the entrance to try to get a glimpse of her. “Oh! Well then! Let me dry you off.” She said. “No no! I’m fine! I like the wet.” Seaweed said as he looked down at his soping scales. “I’ll just sit over here. In the corner. Until she wakes up.”

He had actually done it. He actually managed to stay alive. Now they just had to wait. Don’t worry, Moonshade. You're safe now. I hope. He thought. The Council of Dragons would kill him if she wasn’t. And he didn’t even know why.

Chapter Four

Moonshade

Moonshade felt something warm against her scales. She froze, wondering if Frostbite had finally granted Cloudhorn permission to throw her into a volcano. Her head was sore, tired from being bashed by something twice in the same night. She heard birds chirping, and she wondered if it was morning. She heard an enormous tail thud against the ground over and over. As if someone was pacing. Seaweed. Poor dragon. She slowly opened her eyes, ready to pounce, but the sunlight shone too brightly, temporarily blinding her. She looked around, but she didn’t see Seaweed. She squinted and saw a humanoid shape. That human. He was watching her, waiting for her to awake. Moonshade’s vision went blurry with rage. She growled and tried to force herself up, but something stopped her. She looked down and saw a leather straps as if someone half-heartedly tried to keep her down.

She was bound to a stone table in a new room. The wizard sat in one of the chairs smiling as if proud he had finally found a dragon to experiment on. She looked around and saw Seaweed once again hiding in the corner, looking at her with curious eyes. He started to shake when he saw Moonshades murderous look. Moonshade softened her eyes. Seaweed looked at her with a surprised expression and tilted his head. Then she looked back at her bound wings and legs. She wiggled furiously and yelled. Then she realized she had her two curved daggers. Those curly horned idiots. She thought. They left my frickin daggers. She looked back at the wizard, who looked even prouder. She wanted to yell at them, then she noticed her snout was untouched. Gods have they never had a hostage before? She thought to herself.

That human probably didn’t expect her to set her straps on fire. He’s a wizard. He’s supposed to be smart. She wanted to rip his smug expression off his face. Does he not know Nightwings have fire proof scales? She looked at him and tried to blow fire in his stupid fleshy face. But then something else happened. The room went cold. From somewhere above, icy breath stopped the trail of fire in its path. “ Frostbite! ” Moonshade bellowed. “ Stop defending this fleshbag. ” She assumed it was Frostbite. He was the only Icewing in the Council. “ You mean you don’t recognize me, old friend? ” an icy female voice said.

Moonshade couldn’t believe it. “ Gelid!?” she stammered. “ You survived the Arena! How? ” The Arena. Where Queen Scarlet tortured her battle hostages. Made them fight to the death. “ I assumed you thought I was the toughest dragon you knew? ” Gelid said, trying to look hurt. “ I thought you said I was strong and powerful? ” She said with a smug look. “ But-But no one… No one survives the Arena! ” She yelled. She was surprised, grateful. She wanted to run up to Gelid and hug her. She used to cry herself to sleep thinking about her. “ Gelid...I… I missed you so much! I can’t believe you're alive! ” She gasped as she stared at Gelid.

“ I… ” She tried to get up then remembered she was tied up. She looked at the wizard with a murderous look. The wizard looked uneasy. “ UNTIE ME YOU NAKED LITTLE FLESHBAG! AAARGH! ” She growled at him and he jumped. “ Alakor. ” Gelid said calmly. “ This is no way to treat our guest. ” “ GUEST!? I’M A HOSTAGE! ” Moonshade bellowed. The wizard whom was apparently named Alakor tried to untie Moonshade, but she snapped at him and almost took off his stubby little fingers. “ I can do it myself! ” She snapped. She tried to spit a small plume of fire in his face for good measure, but it once again met its match against the icy breath.

She took her horns and caught them under the loop on her front legs. She lifted them up and cut them with her back talons. Then she ripped the back bounds up with teeth. She could then grab her curved daggers and cut the straps on her wings and chest. Alakor looked both impressed and terrified that she could have done that any second. “ Aah. Dragonets play. ” Moonshade sneered. She felt like Cloudhorn.

She squinted up at the shadowy ceiling. Then she walked around the room. The little waterfall was still making a pool at the back. The old faded cave paintings of them holding hands made from rabbit blood were still on the walls. Little bones were scattered everywhere. Seaweed had gone to sit in the corner fiddling with a squirrel skull, hiding from the awkward moment. She had never noticed it until now. This was her and Gelid’s old hideout.

Chapter Five

Moonshade

They would always come out here as dragonets and wrestle and kill squirrels for snacks. Moonshade had tears in her eyes. “I… I thought the Council had destroyed this place when they found it. ” She stammered. “ Nope, ” Gelid said calmly. She hopped down from the little ledge that they used to have sleepovers in. Moonshade turned around and met Gelid’s eyes. She had many new scars and half an ear was missing. Moonshade ran towards Gelid and hugged her tight. “ You still have that murderous look in your eyes.” Gelid said. “ And you still look ready to storm into battle. ” Moonshade returned.

Gelid let go and met her eyes. She started giggling rapidly. “What? ” Moonshade asked. “ Do you remember when we collected leaves to make beds for that one sleepover? Gelid asked. “ and it turned out to be poison ivy? We were completely covered in red scales! ” She started giggling hysterically again. Moonshade reflected on that memorey, then became grumpy. “ No, I was covered in red scales. I was the only one that picked the poison ivy! ” She looked at Gelid angrily, then she started laughing. They both fell over, pounding the tails on the ground like dragonets and howled with laughter. A drop of cold water from one of the sun holes landed on Moonshades nose and knocked her back to her senses

“ Oh grow up, you flappy lizards. ” Alakor sneered. Moonshade had completely forgotten about him. She stood up and slowly walked up to him, smiling menacingly and showing her sharp teeth. She was going to snap his little twig in half and shove it down his throat. Alakor remarkably didn’t run away or cry out in fear, but his eyes gave him away.

They were brown and scared, looking towards Gelid as if she was going to help him. “ Stop! ” Gelid yelled with fear in her voice. Moonshade whipped around to Gelid in surprise, but her face was dead serious, “ What do you mean stop!? Did you hear what that fleshbag called us? And since when did you start standing up for humans!? ” She looked at the Icewing in utter disbelief. “ Since he saved me! ” Gelid yelled back. Moonshades head was spinning. She couldn’t believe how much her life long friend had changed in 20 years. She was so calm now. Usually she was the kind of dragonet that would throw a fit if they didn’t get to eat the last squirrel.

“ Save you!? How can a human save you of all dragons. I mean, I can imagine it with Seaweed… ”

“ Hey! ” Seaweed yelled in protest. Moonshade gave him a look like, yeah right, and he went back to playing puppets with skulls. “Well he did! ” Gelid yelled back. Moonshade was a bit glad to have Gelid back to her old self again.“ Ok fine! She bellowed. “ He saved you, BIG DEAL. But why is he still here!? I would have eaten him or thrown him off a cliff or something if that happened to me! He would blabber about him saving a dragon and my dignity would evaporate!” Alakor gulped at the thought of that.

“ Well too bad! I… ” Gelid stopped. “ 1, 2, 3, 4... ” She muttered to herself as she inhaled. “ 5. ” On the fifth she exhaled. Moonshade looked at her in pure dilbief and disgust. Gelid was the kind of dragon that would yell at whoever told her to take a deep breath. “ What did they do to you!? ” Moonshade yelled. “ You're a completely different dragon! ” The wizard slowly walked over to Gelid as her Moonshades eyes followed him. Then he started to climb onto Gelid as she grabbed his staff and handed it to him. Moonshade growled and took a step forward.

Gelid helped Alakor climb onto her shoulder while the scared human looked over at the entrance quickly, probably scared his old school friends would see him making out with a dragon. Moonshades jaw hung open. “ It’s not what they did. ” Gelid said proudly. “ It’s what we did. ” she said as she gestured to Alakor. “ What!?... ” Moonshade started, “ Oh here we go again. ” Seaweed said as he rolled his eyes. Gelid gave Seaweed an annoyed look. Moonshade was curious what he was talking about. Seaweed wasn’t one for sarcasm. “ It’s a long story. ” Gelid said, looking at Alakor as if it was some kind of inside joke. Moonshade looked at them back and forth but couldn’t read their faces.

“ You see… ” Gelid continued. “ After surviving the third arena battle, I was going up against a Mudwing named Heron. Heron had been trapped in the Arena for 3 years. Queen Scarlet only kept him because she was tired of feeding the prisoners and he became her executioner. (without having a say in it, of course.) The point is, It meant Queen Scarlet was bored of me, probably because I just froze all my victims to death. I was scared, no one had ever fought him and lived. But the night before the battle, I heard a squeaky voice call from behind me. It was Alakor. A human. A human who had climbed all the way up to my spot on top of the pillars. He had come to rescue me. ”

Gelid started to snuggle with Alakor. “ Disgusting… ” Moonshade said quietly. “ What was that? ” Gelid said questioningly. “ Nothing! ” Moonshade said quickly. “ So, ” Gelid continued. “ He managed to free me with his staff and he hopped on my back and we flew off. Later we heard stories about a dragon called Smolder, who also had a companion, named Flower. We flew to the Kingdom of Sands to meet him. We wanted to tell him we were like him. But we also had a question. We,… ” she said, looking at Alakor, the back at Moonshade. “ wanted to join, the club of Dragons and Scavengers Reunited! And he said yes! ”

Chapter Six

Seaweed

Seaweed was too scared to sleep. He was afraid. He was always afraid. He sat in the corner and fiddled with bones, he drank from the little water spout, he admired the small cave paintings, he went out to swim a bit in the river. And he checked on Moonshade. He knew she was a tough dragon, but two head bashings in one night, not knowing what the heck was happening or where she was?

Seaweed definitely couldn’t take it. Then again. He was Seaweed. The scared little dragon who was always hiding. He didn’t want to be that way, but ever since the Battle of Drakon Harbor… He shook the memory away. He looked at the wizard, who had told him his name was Alakor. He was a weird human. Just sitting there staring at Moonshade. He almost wanted to pick him up and put him in a deep hole to protect her. As if she needed protecting. But if he did take the human, then they would know…

Seaweed still couldn’t believe his stupid brain had feelings for Moonshade. It couldn’t decide whether to be terrified of her or to be in love with her. And at least she didn’t hate him. Then again, he had knocked her in the back of the head. But why did Frostbite make him do it? Oh Irene.. Does he know? He thought scaredly. He couldn’t. It’s not like I show up to her cave with a cow wrapped in ribbon. But how would knocking her out make it any better?

Suddenly Moonshade threw open her eyes and looked around rapidly, ready to kill whoever had taken her away again. He jumped down into the corner and looked up at her. She was staring at Alakor with pure hate in her eyes. The human, dumbly, looked back down at her and smiled, as if proud of his prize. Seaweed had just realized that she was bound down by leather straps. Now he was even angry. Moonshade looked at him with murderous eyes, and, being Seaweed, started to shake rapidly. She looked around the room and started to wriggle furiously. Seaweed looked around and wondered where the Icewing had gone. He had never learned her name.

Moonshade looked down at her side and saw her daggers. Seaweed had told the Icewing to take them or else she and Alakor were dead, but they refused to touch them. He was too scared to as well, not wanting to take the blame and be roasted alive by her fire. She looked back up at the wizard and tried to blow a big poof of fire in his face, but from the little ledge, a stream of icy breath froze the fire in its place. That’s where the Icewing was hiding. He thought. She must have been trying to make a grand entrance or something.

“ Ppsst! ” A voice said. “ Over here! ” Seaweed looked over and saw Cloudhorn beckoning. “ Come here, Squid Brain! ” She whispered loudly. Seaweed slowly started to hobble over to the entrance, trying not to be seen. As he was almost out, his tail thudded against the wall. He jumped through the entrance just as Alakor looked over. He looked around and saw everyone was awake. (Well, except for Crab, who had made his way back and was asleep in a tree.) Frostbite looked over at him with a surprised look on his face. “ What are you doing here? ” He said. “ What do you mean… ” Seaweed said as he looked over at Cloudhorn, who was suddenly very interested in some deer scat on the ground.

“ Cloudhorn! You had tragically jeopardized this mission. ” Frostbite said very seriously. “ What do you have to say for yourself? ”

Cloudhorn gave Frostbite an annoyed look. “ What do I have to say for myself?! ” she yelled. “ Well, let’s begin. I’m cold and wet, trying to rescue some crazy dragon. Seaweed but being a scared little dragonet, taking FOREVER just to be able to knock out the Icewing, eat the human, and get Moonshade! I mean, how HARD is THAT?!” Seaweed looked down in shame. Then he felt something inside him he had never felt before. He looked up at CLoudhorn and yelled at her with all his might. “It’s hard, ok!? I’m tired of you yelling at me and acting like I’m a scared little dragonet! ” Cloudhorn looked at home with a startled look. “ You treated me like I was such a scared little shrimp ever since the battle of Drakon Harbor! ” His voice faltered. He looked at Cloudhorn one more time before storming back into the cave with his head down.

He didn’t care what Clouhorn thought anymore. He looked up and saw Gelid and Alakor snuggling, and he wondered if he had walked in on something. He slowly started to walk back, then he remembered the others were still outside. I can’t go back out there, He whimpered inside his head. Not after that. He layed back down in the corner. He heard Frostbite and Cloudhorn arguing quietly outside. “ Here we go again. ” He said quietly. He had seen them argue before. I wasn’t a pretty sight. Moonshade looked over at Seaweed, expecting him to say something. The Icewing gave him an annoyed look. He tilted his head, not knowing what was happening.

He watched the Icewing as she explained something quietly, too quiet for him to hear. Then Moonshade said something about Gelid. Gelid? He questioned in his head. Is that her name? It certainly sounded like an Icewing name. Suddenly he felt something bonk against his head. He looked over and saw Frostbite aiming another rock at his head. He ducked quickly, trying to avoid being hit again. “Come! Here! ” Frostbite whispered loudly as he waved his claws at him.

Seaweed closed his eyes and looked away snootely. Frostbite threw another rock at his head. Seaweed looked at him angrily and sighed. “ Fine! ” He whispered. He crawled over to Frostbite. “ What do you want! ” He yelled as he came out. “ Well, we have arranged a plan. ” He said as he nodded. “ We are going to jump through the hole in the top of the cave and ambush them. ” He pointed to the top of the cave. Seaweed looked where he was pointing, then looked back at the Icewing. “ How? ” He said, tilting his head. “Easy! ” Frostbite returned. “ We will need to knock them out and tie them up! ” Looking at Cloudhorn, who was trying to corner a terrified rabbit.

She noticed them staring and tilted her head. “ What? ” She said. “ Let’s just say, your wings will be a bit, sore. ” Frostbite said, smiling.

Oof. I've edited this story a lot since this. It's kinda cringe in some spots.

I love your writing! I just have two tips:
1. Make sure to end the paragraph after a character has said something! As an example:
Wrong way:
"What are we going to do?" whispered Bob. "I don't know," Sally replied softly.
Right way:
"What are we going to do?" whispered Bob.
"I don't know," Sally replied softly.
2. Make sure not to overruse capitalization! Some readers find this annoying and slightly childish (no offense). That's about the only problem I find with Tui's writing.
Anyways, I hope this helped and didn't come off as rude! Love your writing, and keep it up!
