Name: Coren Wren
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Home Planet: Artemi
Appearance: Coren is more slender in build, made for speed and agility. Even so, he possesses a surprising amount of strength for what his appearance is; he can back up a threat with physical power if need be. He has toned muscle from his training, he was born into a culture of warriors, after all. He is shorter average, standing at 5'2 inches.
Coren has shiny-raven black hair that is cut short. The color of his eyes is a very dark brown, appearing black most of the time; the shape of his coal-dark eyes are an angular, slightly narrowed shape, a characteristic trait of upturned eyes. The shape is slightly reminiscent of a cat's eyes. His teeth, when he shows them, are clearly sharper than a normal human, his canines come to a sharper point, along with the rest of his teeth; if he were to bite, he would easily draw blood, or even be able to tear out a chunk of flesh. Bronze tan skin is stretched over a lean body, marked with several pale scars of varying size, shape, and origin. The most prominent scars are located on his face; one cuts from the left side of his nose and stopping at bottom of his chin, made clearly by a blade. Another is located nearly in the middle of his forehead, slightly off to the right hand side; the deep scar starts two inches from his hairline, goes up into his scalp and ends an inch in. The last one is a thin one, going from under one eye, going over the bridge of his nose, and ending right before reaching the middle of the other eye.
He also has a few marks given to him by the animals of his home planet. Even at a young age, he got himself into trouble a few times. There is a long claw mark, starting at the top of his back and dragging down his back and ending where his tailbone is located; also, on either side of his neck, there is a healed mark of a puncture wound; courtesy of a desert cat's attack. His left earlobe has a tear in it, due to a juvenile wolf's fangs. And a vicious bite mark on his right hip; due to one of the large black-panther type creatures going after him. And several more smaller, less notable scars.
The most common expression on his face is indifference, typically devoid of emotion, neutral. His tone of voice is also neutral, but also a bit cold. His gaze is a bit unnerving, his eyes have a cold, calculating look in them; as if sizing up whoever is on the opposite end of that stare, analyzing them. He has always had that stare, if it is unnerving on an adult; then it was even more so to see on a young child.
Coren seems to practically radiate hostility in most cases, like he will murder whoever gets too near to him. Although this can change to a feeling that can only be described as cold; which is a bit more inconspicuous, seeing as he is not radiating malicious intent. Something that is more common, seeing as he is currently trying to keep off the radar. Coren's default way of moving is silent and swift. The walk of a hunter who stalks the shadows. Yet it is not a slink, his movements carry a quiet type of confidence
Before everything happened, he used to be seen most commonly in his armor; which is certainly unique in appearance. Thin overlapping plates, the inspiration drawn from a snake's scales; allowing for full coverage, but also not hindering Coren's agile fighting style. Of course, the segemented, flexible design means that those metal plates are thinner, weaker, than normal armor plates; but he takes less hits in light armor than in heavier armor. Of course, he cannot wear his armor anymore, too distinctive among the inhabitants of Artemi. Now, he wears practical wear; he changes his shirt and pants a lot, to avoid the possibility of being recognized due to wearing the same attire. But he usually wears a light long sleeve shirt and athletic pants; sometimes a jacket if the weather is colder.
Personality: One of the most prominent things about him, is his quietness, well, more like silence in most cases. He is clearly not the most talkative fellow, he is not chatty by nature. And he is dangerous in this manner, the quiet ones are always the ones to watch out for; they see and hear more. Not many suspect the ones who are quiet, in the background. He will answer if asked a question, or sometimes of his own volition; but he is not the type to go on and on about things. The way to describe his speech is laconic; quick, to the point, practical. And inevitably as subtle as being hit in the face with a sledgehammer. He will add more details as he sees fit, sometimes things can't be summed up in a few words and he has to lend more description to his words. Coren is not exactly...good-tempered. Much the opposite. He is normally aloof, not friendly by any means and unapproachable; he does not welcome human company very often, preferring to stay off by himself no matter what, to the point of actively avoiding it. If he has to work in a team, or work with someone, then fine; he won't be happy, but for the sake of survival he will. In those rare cases where he is actually feeling social, he will just stay by himself in the background and glare at anyone who comes near.
Despite Coren giving off a malignant vibe when some brave soul decides to come near him for an extended amount of time, he doesn't actually want to hurt them. Usually. There are some...exceptions. But no one else knows that, so the baleful feeling makes others uneasy because they think he is on the verge murdering someone, which, isn't an unreasonable thought. He does not like most people, but he will not attack without a reason. But the hostility is not a bluff, if you provoke him, he will strike. At the same time, he is patient; in the way that a hunter is, that vigilant patience, watching, waiting for the time to act. Even if he seems like he accepts something done to him, he doesn't, merely biding his time for the right moment to strike. It is an interesting mix, fairly quick to fight, yet patient at the same time. And his patience level can vary depending on his mood. Coren is wary, by nature and experience alike. His trust is not easily given, and is easily lost; yet if he truly trusts someone, he will stand by them no matter what. He is not used to others being nice to him, outside of those he knows; the logic behind it is that he is not a nice person in most cases, why would someone he doesn't even know want to be nice to him if he doesn't even give them the same treatment.
His aloofness and hostility conceal a clever mind, he is quick to learn and pick up on cues. He is intelligent, calculating, sometimes one may be able to see the metaphorical gears turning in his head when he is distracted. This aspect makes him pretty good at strategizing. He is a decent actor, he certainly isn't going to win an award for best actor, he isn't the worst either. Truthfully, it isn't his most favorite thing to do, but it's that or death, and he isn't particularly looking to die for a while.
Despite what others' first impression of him is, Coren has a strong moral compass and sense of honor. Being brought up with these principles, he still sticks to these values. Those who are in contact with him for a time, are surprised to discover that he actually abides by an, admittedly noble set of morals. He will not break these beliefs, no matter what. Despite his upbringing, he is quite aware of the fact that many out in the galaxy are not quite so honorable as the Karas are; and is not surprised to hear of atrocities they commit.
Coren is fierce opponent to face in battle, formidable and lethal if need be, he lives up to his kind's reputation. Combat is what his ancestors lived for centuries ago, when the Vhipir'se har Karas were starting to branch out into the stars. The blood of ancient warriors still flows through his veins, centuries later; their ferocity is something that has been passed on through the years. He is vicious in defense of his own, mess with his clan or anyone he is close to, and you'll have hell to pay. He does not tolerate threats to himself or anyone he considers clan, even temporary allies fall under this banner.
He has a independent personality. More of a loner than a leader or follower; he needs his time alone after all. And he likes to be alone most of the time. He could travel with somebody, it'd have to be somebody he won't end up murdering due to an inevitable arugment though. He does not take well to being forced to do something. He does not like being restrained to only one place; wandering the stars is deep in his bones. Wanderlust, you could call it.
Coren, he holds a grudge. Very, very well. He would be careful to not let his resentment consume him, because even with the most intense emotions, he strives to keep in control of himself. But he will come after who had managed to get away after wronging him. His grudges don't last against family for very wrong, all he needs in that case, is to be alone and calm down enough to see the rational side of things. But against strangers and enemies? Hah, he will show them why exactly his people are often called the
Despite Coren's, mostly negative personality traits, he does have some good ones in there; other than the aforementioned traits. When you have earned his trust, which takes a while, due to his cautious nature; he is incredibly loyal when he has known you for a bit. He will gladly die for anyone he considers friends, loved ones, and clan. At heart, he is somebody who dislikes inefficiency; valuing competence and efficency in a person, and this is a popular view among the Karas in general. Contrary to what most think of him, he is capable of kind acts. He likes to mess with people, this tendency usually surfacing when he is feeling in the mood to be funny, or in the presence of someone he dislikes; but most can tell the difference between the two. His soft spots are mainly children and animals; he is totally the sort to come back home with a bizarre or very deadly species of animal in tow, and strangely, animals like him a lot, for the most part at least. But his kind acts are out of true altruism, his honor and moral code, and what he had been taught while growing up. But it still comes as a surprise to many when he stops and helps someone in need.
When you have gotten to know him, and to the point where Coren includes you as clan, or good friends at the very least, he has less sharp edges. Of course, he is still a bit sharp, it's his personality. But he is more open and friendly. He also starts bringing the person things they have mentioned they need at some point, and other random gifts; mostly practical things, but the thought is still there. Overall, he's just a bit nicer.
He is a clean person, while not afraid to get dirty, he isn't someone who goes for days without cleaning themself; he doesn't enjoy the feeling of having who knows what on his skin for long periods of time, and besides, it's disgusting. This translates to his personal quarters and campsite, organized and as clean as either of them can be; the reason for this is from a purely practical standpoint, and also yet another example of the way he was raised in a warrior society. For quarters, organization is critical; your weapons, armor, and essentials are kept there when not in use, having a cluttered home hinders you when you need to find something quickly. What if you needed to confront invaders, and you can't find weapons? Or anything else really. Seconds count in important times. You need to know where your gear is, so in case of emergency, you can grab your things and get out as quick as you can. For the campsite, you do not want to have a unclean camp, not including nature; the health of yourself and any other companions relies on keeping the camp clear of anything harmful. A improperly cleared space could be set on fire if you make one, as well as attract predatory animals, and make you sick. He is not obsessive about this, as long as everything gets put back where it properly goes, then he's fine with a little bit of stuff scattered around, though it will never be a total mess.
Coren is very good at remaining calm under stressful situations, he has had some practice. While it is hard to keep composed during high-stress situations, he manages to keep his head clear enough to think properly; he keeps it together better than most civilians.
Quirks: Coren has the remarkable ability to turn his head at a full 180 degrees to either side, as easily as anything. It has freaked out so many people. By now, he does it on purpose for fun. Honestly, it's a bit terrifying to witness. In fact, he had managed to convince several peers that he was like, possessed.
He also can bend his back weirdly too. He has some contortionish stuff going on. An example of this, is the time he had managed to walk on all fours. With his belly facing upward. Literally, he had basically preformed a backbend, then proceeded to walk while maintaining that pose; on one occasion, he had managed a run, kind of. It's hard to run on all fours.
Coren is oddly accident prone, he has gotten himself into trouble quite a few times. Most of the time, he doesn't mean to get in trouble, he just finds himself in it.
Much to his annoyance, he has a tendency to say random, weird, and sometimes creepy things if he has just been woken up by someone and still half-asleep, or is tired enough to lose what little brain to mouth filter he has. Also, while not a big sleep-talker, he has mumbled random things if somewhat woken up, but not really awake.
Coren has a tendency to play with a knife when idle, from something as simple as flipping the knife up and catching it; to interestingly complicated tricks. Most that aren't from his home planet find this quirk a bit...intimidating.
