Struggle to Survive

Hidden deep with in the forest, finding a home along the base of a mountain, a pack of wolves has carved out a life for themselves. While it may be a mediocre life where they barely scrape by, it is a life no less, and it's more than they had before. At a glance, this pack seems normal, maybe a little raggedy, but no different than any other pack. However, upon a closer inspection, one could find that there is nothing normal about this pack. No, instead, this pack is an assortment of misfits, rejects from other packs chased out in hopes they would die and no longer burden them. These wolves were resilient though, and determined to be more than outcasts.

Some how, over time, they all congregated in an unclaimed area around a mountain, and took it for their own. Hard to reach, and well hidden, the pack is pretty sheltered from the outside world. Few packs dare to venture in that far to try and challenge them, and others just don't view them as a threat, so why not let them have their little bit of territory to live out their days? However, even without the constant threat of other packs, this pack does not have it easy. Instead, they must deal with each individual's flaws, the very reasons they were all driven out of their former packs in the first place. The pack has to learn how to function, even with all these faults, to find the strengths among all the weaknesses. While it is a struggle to survive for many of them, the pack has managed, and is scraping by.

Unfortunately, that little pit of life they have created for themselves is now in jeopardy. Wolves, a small group of healthy, normal wolves, has it's eyes set on their small, but flourishing territory for their own. Since this group of wolves isn't big enough to take on healthier, larger packs, the pack of rejects is the only chance they have at starting their own. Taking over, and driving them out is many of the wolves' goals, but the rejects aren't going to go down with out a fight. They will put their lives on the lines, and risk it all for everything they've created for themselves, because, without it, they are nothing.

Basic Information:

The Omega Mountain Pack, or just the Mountain Pack for short, is a pack created out of a bunch of wolves with some sort of flaw. Whether it be physical, mental, emotional, etc. One way or another, there is something about them that made their former pack reject them. These flaws can be something as simple as just being too small, to something as missing a leg. None of the wolves at Omega Mountain have had it easy, but they've found companionship among each other, and have created a home for themselves. They have a small, but lush territory that is perfect for them, and any other pack that wants to start out. It has several food sources such a Caribou, deer, moose, and elk, and smaller prey too. And plenty of water sources as well as shelter and dens. It's small, but has a lot to offer.

The Nomadic Pack, are the healthy group of wolves intent on taking the Omega Mountain territory for their own. They are all adult wolves in their prime, but because there are so few of them, they don't have the numbers to take on actual healthy packs. However, since they don't have a territory, they currently don't have an actual pack name as pack names are decided by the territory they own, hence them being called the Nomadic pack. Not all the wolves want to harm to Mountain Pack, but they know taking it is a necessity. The Leaders, though, have every intention of running them off, and they'll happily kill them all too.

The Flaw System:

When creating Mountain Pack Wolves, each wolf has a flaw or two that had it driven out from it's former pack. Some flaws are minor, while some are major. Here are some things to keep in mind:

• Wolves can have 1 Major Flaw or up to 3 Minor Flaws Maximum.
• Try to be Unique with Flaws. If you see one that you want and has been used a few times, try to make it different or use something else.
• Flaws can be Genetic, or Sustained at some point in the life. Like if a wolf was blinded in both eyes during a fight vs a wolf born completely blind.
• Flaws can Be Physical, Mental, Emotional, Psychological, anything that hinders them really.

About the Territory

The Omega Mountain Pack have a relatively small territory compared to most wolf territories, amounting to about 15 square miles maximum. It has a variety of vegetation, though most of it is forest. There are a few meadows, and fields spread throughout the forest, the largest meadow actually being a valley at the base of a mountain where much of the pack's prey ventures through. The valley hosts a small river that expands into various small streams that spread across the territory before dying out. There's one other main water source in the western corner of the map, it's a small pond, but it's the only only decent water source in that area, as the river lies in the Eastern area.

The mountain that the pack's territory is known for is massive. It holds various caves for the wolves to retreat to, and the difficult terrain helps deter other wolves who don't know the mountain from attacking. On the other side of the mountain is another patch of forest that makes up much of the valley wedged between the mountains. The river from the other side comes around and waterfalls into a small pool in the smaller valley. This is considered to be the pack's main denning area, they hunker down here when in need of safety and escape, as it is extremely difficult to reach for the uneducated.

The mountain itself is extremely difficult to navigate, making it the pack's biggest advantage when under attack. There are a few paths that lead up the mountain successfully, and a couple that lead around to the valley located behind the mountain. However, unless one has knowledge of the mountain, finding those paths, the corrects ones, is near impossible. Even following the river through the mountains to get to the small waterfall that leads into the valley is difficult. It's not impossible, but it would take a lot of effort and determination.

There are a few other predators that populate the small territory, but they tend to avoid the pack, and leave them be. Coyotes are the only predatory nuisances they deal with, often following the wolves to their kills, and trying to take what they can. They also pose a threat to the young wolves within the pack, especially the pups, so the pack is on constant look out for coyotes when they're out, even more so when at a kill. The pack keeps an eye out for all predators, though, a fresh kill is likely to attract them to the area, putting the weaker wolves at risk.

Prey wise, the small territory is extremely plentiful. While there are only a couple of herds that reside permanently in the expanse of the Mountain Pack's territory, there are several others that travel through it regularly. Accessible prey includes deer, moose, elk, and caribou, the latter being one of the most common. Caribou travel frequently through the territory, and will occasionally camp out as well, and their vast numbers making hunting less daunting. Deer are the easiest to hunt, they're smaller and require less strength to bring down, and there are a couple of small herds in the territory. Elk and Moose frequent the area, one large herd of Elk live right outside the pack's territory, but visit it frequently enough that they're basically residents. The pack will occasionally target them, but there is great risk involved, so they are very careful when doing so. Moose, though, even a single moose on it's own, they won't even try, unless it is injured or dying. They prove to be too dangerous to even attempt to go after. Along with these main food sources, there are smaller options to like hares and squirrels, but they offer little.

Due to the fact that the territory is located so far away from civilization, human encounters are rather rare. About the only time they're ever seen is during hunting season for the prey animals, or the occasional poacher. However, if humans did manage to reach the pack's territory it could be devastating to the pack, as they're not as likely to escape from traps and guns, even healthy wolves struggle with that. Thankfully, because their territory is so hard to reach, and so small, the chances of that occurring are slim, and the pack doesn't worry about it really like other packs might.

The Weather & Seasons

The weather in the territory is kind of wishy washy. Winters are definitely more extreme than summers, which can make life a little tough. Summers are rather moderate, temperatures tend not to rise above the mid-90s, but sometimes they do. Winters, though, are different. They start and end fairly moderately, as expected, but the coldest of months are bitter. Blizzards are frequent, and the snow is thick and high, making walking difficult and even harder on those who already struggle. The temperatures are often low but tolerable by most of the wolves during the day, but regularly fall below zero at night. Sometimes, during the worst of times, the days and nights are even colder. Fall is a pleasant time for the wolves, the temperatures are mild, and enjoyable, same with the spring.

During monsoons the mountains and valleys can be dangerous, because when it rains, it pours. Mud and rock slides are not unheard of, so when it's raining the wolves have to be cautious when in those areas. The small river can flood too, but it's not as dangerous as mudslides from the mountains. Monsoon season for the area tends to be from mid-spring to the beginning of fall, though a few storms close to winter aren't unheard of. It tends to be more humid during the rainy months too.

For the First Posts & Need to Know Roleplay Information

For the Omega Mountain Pack

They are not aware of the Nomadic Pack yet. They have no idea of their goals or their presence for the time being. Being relatively left alone and isolated from the other pack, they are cut off from rumors, gossip, etc. So there is NO way any of them would know until they come across them.

That being said. It's a normal new day for the pack, things will go about as normal for them. They will awake in the morning like any other day, and go about their life. Once the pack is awake and moving, Berengar will call for the Morning Meeting, where he will give any important updates for the pack and assign tasks for the day or morning. All pack members are aware of this pack meeting, and should not be out of their main valley prior to it. There is no reason for them to be.

For the Nomadic Pack

Things are definitely different for the Nomadic Pack. They've recently entered the Omega Mountain Pack territory and are residing on it's edges for now. They don't have any set densite for right now, but it's likely [from what Polly told me] that they will be given the task to find one soon. The pack is all aware of Anika's pregnancy and how far along she is and will need to take steps to shoulder this.

For them, it's a new day of promise. They can wake up without the immediate need to move on, as they have found the territory they desire. However, they still have to be mindful of the fact that they are in another pack's territory, and will need to do their best to not be discovered until the opportune moment. This means any hunting done will need to be done discreetly and away from where it's evident the Moutain wolves mainly hunt.

Also, they do not know the exact knowledge of the pack. So they aren't fully aware of the pack wolves' flaws. They've heard rumors of them being different, but not what that entirely entails.

I will be adding actual pack rules for this pack later. If Polly wishes, they can also come up with some pack rules for the Nomadic Pack.

Omega Mountain Pack | Alpha | Male | Mentions: Open

The goliath of a wolf shuddered slightly as slumber left him, his ears flicking gently as he roused. Dark lids parted to reveal brilliant emeralds, they glistened with recent sleep, but the optics flicked about none the less. Berengar was, by no means, a morning wolf. He didn't so much mind them, but he never fully awoke until well after. In fact, the Alpha Male would rather have spent his morning lounging around for a good couple of hours, but, alas, the responsibilities of the pack fell on his broad shoulders.

Slowly the male pushed to his paws, shaking out his short coat instinctively. The male rarely, if ever, slept in his given den, preferring to sleep out in the open near the pond of their chosen densite. There was a rock there he liked above all others to rest on, however, he had chosen the ground the night before.

His head swung lazily from side to side as he glanced about the small valley the pack always resided in at night. The mountains looming over them, as intimidating as they were, provided shelter from the rest of the world while the pack slept. Still, though, Berengar chose to sleep out in the open so that they couldn't be snuck up on while they slumbered in their dens.

Yawning widely, the male turned and paced the few steps over to the small pond and lapped at its crystalline waters, the cool liquid cooling his dry throat. His nub of a tail flicked gently, a motion that would have been sweeping if his full tail had been present,

As quiet morning drifted over the valley once more, the male lifted his head and tread forward, no particular destination in mind. In the first few moments of morning, before the pack arose, Berengar liked to check the trails that entered the valley, and the forest of it, to make sure no unwelcome foe lingered. He knew the odds were low, wolves tended to leave the pack alone, but with so many lives depending on him, the Alpha Male never slacked off on his morning ritual.

Since the male couldn't rely on his nose to tell him things, he needed to physically see that danger was not creeping up on them as they awoke. Only then would he allow himself to relax for the morning.

Omega Mountain Pack | Female | Pack Member | Mentions: Open

The autumn colored she-wolf was never known to be an early riser, preferring to allow the sun to seep into her den before ever making her appearance. Unfortunately, her night had been plagued with terror as dreams, no, memories, flitted through her head. It wasn't often that Rhonwen was visited by the nightmares of her past, but when they did, they kept the female from blissful sleep.

So, as the air shifted with the promise of morning, Rhonwen felt herself stirring, unable to remain there in the dark for much longer. She knew it would be a good bit until the sun's rays drifted into the valley, but she could still see the tendrils of morning light lingering just outside the entrance of her den.

Slowly, the female pushed from her position on the floor of her den and slid through the entry, coming to a stance just outside of her. At a glance, she looked relatively normal, though her gait always gave away the slight abnormality in her front leg. Her paw twinged mildly at the sudden weight upon it, like it did every morning having become comfortable resting as well. The female paid it little mind though and walked towards the clearing in the trees that lead to the pond that hydrated their little den valley.

She reached the opening just as Berengar, their Alpha Male, disappeared into the trees, no doubt on his way to ensure nothing had trespassed into their denning area during the night. She sighed softly, knowing the thankless job the male undertook, and made a not to check in on him later. Berengar had been her friend since the moment he had found her, and she appreciated his company whenever she found it.

Shaking her head gently, the female half limped over to the water, but, instead of drinking it, laid herself down in front of it. The sound of the small waterfall spilling into the small pool was comforting, and she found her eyes drifting close for another moment, though sleep stayed away.

...
Ash yawned, silently and stretched out her paws, half asleep the wolf wriggled her nose and her eyes snapped open, she could feel herself trembling, she had seen her mum, she had been running away, Ash had been chasing her, calling out desperately. Her dream mum hadn't noticed and just kept running. The harder Ash had tried to catch up however, the further she fell behind.
She then shook her head, tears welling in her bleary eyes and slowly got to her feet. Wide-eyed she looked around the den, terrified, and upon seeing nothing, relaxed. Every time she dreamt about Mum she woke up like this, feeling like something terrible was about to happen, although to be honest she usually felt like that anyway.
Shakily she crept towards the den entrance and peered out, alert for any sudden noises or movement. She stretched out a shaking paw and tested the grass in front of her as if she expected some sort of monster to come out of the ground and eat her. She put her weight on the paw, nothing happened. Relaxing slightly she put out another paw almost getting outside the den, before she saw a figure close by, walking towards her. With a silent yelp, she leapt up, banged her head on the roof of the den and retreated back inside.
After somewhat regaining control of herself, Ash poked her head outside, her eyes wide and frightened. To her immense relief and embarrassment, however, she saw only the alpha, trotting through the valley.
Humiliated she watched him as he passed.

.
The warmth of the sun had been absorbing itself into the female's pelt. It was indeed relaxing. Slowly opening her golden orbs, Clovis took in the sight of nature all around her. She started to examine the sleeping wolves around her. It was quite early for her to be up, but lately she hasn't been having the best of luck sleeping. Clovis rose to her paws and took in a deep stretch, letting out a long yet silent yawn.
.
Clovis exited the den and sat down, aware of her surroundings. She always thought about her flaws. They constantly danced around in the back of her head. She paid no mind to left ear being completely useless, but thought about how she couldn't speak. It isn't that she doesn't want to, it's that she physically can't.
.
Now that she thinks about it, she couldn't remember the last time she was able to speak. She was unsure if she was born that way or if something happened. But oh how she wish she could just say a simple, "Hey!", or something. Something. Clovis felt her flaws made her completely useless. But she couldn't help it.
.
She looked down at the ground and noticed a stick laying between her paws. She began to fiddle around with it, moving it side to side. She decided to kill time by playing with this stick as she waited for her pack mates to awake from their slumber. She also looked forward to being assigned a task. But she'd have to wait.
