Roleplay Backstory

For centuries, dragons roamed the Earth alongside their non-draconic counterparts. Humans, Elves, and Dryads alike all lived throughout the continent of Agros. They lived separated into three larger countries; humans remained in Eskela, Elves in Flairhiel, and Dryads in Eshal.

Dragons roamed throughout each of the three countries, the borders something they'd no use for; they traveled where their hearts took them, and none had a problem with it. Dragons would sometimes, though very rarely, bond with members of each of the three species, pairing with them so that they'd have the abilities and part of the lives with their other half; this was a great honor, and anyone chosen by a dragon would be celebrated for an entire moon to strengthen their bond. Feasts were prepared, fairs hosted and parties thrown; they would make offerings to the dragon to ensure they were pleased and take care of their bond, often in the forms of their prized livestock or jewels.

However, over time dragons began to become more scarce. Hunters were traveling after them, shooting them down and harvesting their scales for the trade, as their scales were quite nice for armor in the royal militaries.

The dragons vanished entirely from the three countries over time, withdrawing into the mountains far beyond the borders, vowing to never fly over the towns until they are no longer hunted.

Centuries have passed, and no one has seen a dragon; many doubt whether they ever truly existed beyond myths, due to being away longer than the Elder Elf has been alive.

But, recently, four dragons have resurfaced; four young teens have been discovered to have the scales of a dragon partner somewhere on their torso or face, overjoying the citizens of Agros; and not only them, but the hunters as well.

They're sent away into the mountains to find their bonded, well away from the hunters. They must return safely and fully bonded by the blood moon to show dragons and citizens can live alongside each other once again and are allowed no more time by the king; if they do not meet this deadline, the dragons will no longer be safe from hunters.

Can the group do it?

TLDR:

To be bonded with a dragon is a feat not many can claim since they pulled away from man-kind. It has been practically unheard of in nearly three centuries, until suddenly, four children have been discovered to have scales identical to those in the books on small areas of their body.
. .
The children are now 16-18 and have been sent by their villages to discover their bonds, and learn to manage them. Each maintains a single trait from their dragon counterpart and will learn to survive and work alongside their bond on their journey back to the capital cities of each country.
. .
Have dragon bonds truly returned to the continent with the intention to help, or have they decided to play a cruel joke on Agros?

DISCLAIMER:

This roleplay is inspired by a novel I currently have in the works, and it just so happens to also be a concept I think could be a lot of fun roleplaying. Please bear this in mind when creating your character; if they do not fit in with the story, or they would be a problem with carrying the plot forward, they will be declined; the subplots will not be changed for one character.

The Species of Agros

Humans

Humans are non-magical creatures, with the exception of the dragon-bonded. Males are an average height of 5 feet and 9 inches, while females are an average of 5 feet and 4 inches. They rely on spears and armor to keep them safe, as they lack the magical abilities of the rival countries; they have not had a dragon bond in the longest, and it has always been much rarer for them. Even before the vanishing of the dragons, it is practically unheard of. One has been bonded this time around.

This species has the shortest lifespan and does not often live to see their hundreds; the character will be 16-18.

Elves

Elves are human-like fae that typically only reach an average of 5 feet even for males, and 4 feet and 10 inches for females. They are pale-skinned and possess dark, usually brown eyes. This specie has the ability to change their appearance, though this is very draining; none have mastered this ability to do it at will since the disappearance of the dragons.

In addition to their eyes and skin-tone, these creatures also have elongated ears and sharper than usual canine teeth, which many believe to be a gift from the first dragon; the elves were the first to be chosen by a dragon many centuries ago.

Elf characters will be between 160-180, though physically 16-18.

Dryads

Dryads are wood nymphs that live among the great trees of Eshal; they've built a city among the branches, and have never in their thousands of years in existence touched the ground. They've no idea what's out in the world beyond their tree city, nor do they posess any interest in finding out; they are content, and they are safe. Typically, they are around 5 feet and 10 inches for females, and 6 feet and 2 inches for males; they are large, and they are muscular, as they need to be in order to protect the great oaks they live in.

As for powers, Dryads can see all that is around them for up to a mile and a half through connecting to nature; this power has been granted to them by the great Earth Dragons many centuries ago. Without the dragons, unfortunately, none have used this power, as the newer generations have not learned how.

These fae are human in appearance, but have longer ears like an elf, at least one leaf growing from each arm, and they always have leaves in their hair. Their skin-tone is typically dark, and their eyes are any shade of green.

Dryad characters will be between 160-180, though physically 16-18.

The Dragon Species
Amorus
The Amorus species is a smaller dragon type, measuring only 8-10 feet at the shoulders and possessing a slim physique that allows for faster reaction time and general speed. They are a wingless species, but this does not prevent them from the air; a creature of the night, the Amorus can conjure the shadows in the area to form wings to allow for temporary flight. They have only one coloring, a deep velvety black with silver spots that appears identical to the night sky, allowing for camouflage when night falls. Their eyes are a foggy silver-blue with white pupils, and they can see clearly only in the darkness. They are almost feline in appearance; a lithe frame that allows them to move gracefully, a tufted tail trailing behind them and almost touching the ground, and long ears with delicate tendrils attached at the tip. Spikes trail along their necks, but they serve as a last line of defense rather than an offensive measure. Due to their association with the darkness, they have the ability to manipulate the shadows around them (cannot conjure shadows), they have the ability to "vanish" into the darkness, along with anyone in contact with them. They are nocturnal, and unfortunately at a great disadvantage when the sun is out. They travel slower and grow exhausted when unable to rest, and are almost blind when the sun is out. They draw their powers from the moon and are nearly powerless in the sunlight. While weakened, their only defense will be their powerful tail and sharp claws, which appear to glow like the rest of their body when the sun sets. Some are unable to speak verbally and instead use telepathic communication, but it can only be done when in close range if the dragon and master are not fully bonded, or the rider does not open their mind; this is the only power they do not lose in the daylight. Instead of fire, they exhale a thick smoke, colored similarly to themselves to allow for cover while they escape. They are omnivores, with preferences up to the individual.
Krelluris
The Krelluris species is a large species at a height of approximately 15-16 feet at their shoulders; at their sides are two large wings that appear to be made of rock and held together by magma; they are able to fly, but are slow moving and graceless due to their size. Their scales range from a deep crimson color to an almost burnt-looking black; atop their skulls are long, straight horns that come to a sharp point and are an ash-grey in color. They breathe a fire rivalled in heat only by the magma deep within the volcanoes in which their eggs hatch, and naturally run warm. When in cold temperatures they seem sickly and become skittish, as they grow stiff and move much slower; if they do not get back to warm temperatures in a timely manner, they will perish. This species cannot swim due to their weight, and instead sink to the bottom of large bodies of water. This species is omnivorous with a preference for meat; due to their size and slow speed they are primarily scavengers.
Illopir
The Illopir species is moderate in size, standing at an approximate 10-12 feet at the shoulders with long, spiked tails that come to a sharp point. These spikes can be shot off with a sharp flick of the tail for defense; their aim is true, and they hardly ever miss. If they do not hit you, consider it your warning. They are carnivorous, surviving off of meat; they are ambush predators, but have a tendency to scavenge as well. Their colors are neutral and suited for desert camouflage, though are most prominently shades of brown with tan accents; their eyes range from brown to gold. They are a territorial and aggressive species that lives in packs, and fiercely protective over those they deem family. Their fire appears as a shower of sparks, green in color; this is more of a warning shot. They have small batlike wings and are unable to fly, but are very strong swimmers due to webbed feet and a slim, aerodynamic build; they have gills that open up when beneath water to allow for breathing, but close when on land so that they can breathe out of water as well. Due to smaller size and their build, they are swift both on land and sea, but with a distinct advantage underwater. Due to being suited for water, they suffer in hot temperatures; they are most comfortably in cold to moderate climates and prone to overheating when in anything greater. They are not particularly strong, and instead rely on their agility and accuracy.
Enovian
The Enovian species has large, feathered wings that allow it to fly; they are herbivores, and tend to prefer the flavor of the weeping willow trees found in Eshal. They tend to take on brighter, flower-like colors ranging from the light purple of the lavender plant to the dark purple/black shade of the Queen of the Night tulip; atop their skulls, similarly colored to their feathers, but a shade or two darker, are long spiraled horns. Their eyes are most often a bright shade of golden-orange. They are of moderate size at only around 10-12 feet at the shoulders, and unfortunately unable to camouflage unless in the field of flowers most closely resembling their scale colors. Their primary defense is their long, sharp claws that can pierce through the strongest of tree barks; the Enovian dragon is muscular and possesses the strength of a hundred men, often used back when they roamed Agros as work animals for mining companies. They breathe ice rather than fire, but at a high enough velocity that it can kill anyone to get in the way; this is a last resort for safety, as their aim is not accurate.

Roleplay Rules
1 .. As this roleplay is quite small, I would ideally like to see a minimum of 250 words per post; posts do not have to be written like a published novel (literate/novella literacy), but do need mostly accurate spelling and grammar; this puts the group at a semi-literate level.
2 .. Characters can and will get injured, ill, or killed; this will never be done without the permission of the player, and these events won't be happening every couple of posts. Only I have the power to create these events, though members are welcome to PM me with requests. It is unlikely any of the bonded will die, but injuries and illnesses may happen.
3 .. Please, keep characters within the provided descriptions for their species. Because there are only four dragons, there will be four types available to choose from. These are briefly described above; feel free to DM me if you'd like help or further guidance, but this is purposely left somewhat vague to allow for creative freedom.
4 .. Bonds will be randomly generated, please do not plot them in PMs or create a character specifically to bond with someone; it adds to the theme of fate.
5 .. Please do not join if you cannot stay active; I myself am not TOO busy, but am currently applying for jobs so this may change, but I will still manage replies enough to keep this alive. All I ask in terms of activity is at least two posts a week.
6 .. There won't be a secret code, just follow the rules.
7 .. The best timeframe I can give you for this is to imagine medieval times; they'll only have the technology available then, alongside their elemental abilities. Please keep the characters realistic to this timeframe.

Reservations require an RP sample to make sure the word minimum can be met, otherwise I am relying on the character form to see how you write.

yes I have one dragon species left to do but that's my character so that can wait while I let others fill some slots; there can only be one of each dragon

CHEIMRA THE VOICELESS
k eyem ruh
. .
[ Gender ]
Female
. .
[ Species ]
Amorus
. .
[ Abilities ]
Cheimra possesses the ability to manipulate the shadows around her, including using them to camouflage herself and those she comes into contact with when she feels threatened. She is one of the dragons of her species that lack the ability to communicate with those around her unless through a mental link; she must be in close proximity to the one she wishes to speak with unless it is her rider once they've bonded enough, and her fellow dragons are no exception; when not able to form a link, she instead uses chirps, clicks and purrs to communicate with the others.
Should shadows be unavailable for camouflage, the dragon is able to produce a thick cloud of black smoke to allow for temporary cover long enough for her companions to escape danger.
. .
[ Appearance ]
(c) red-sinistra on deviantart for both; I own the character shown and can provide proof of purchase
Cheimra stands 9 feet tall at her shoulders, with a long neck adding height when she stands tall. She is slim in stature and possesses the lithe physique of a feline, allowing for graceful movements and speed when traveling. At the end of a long tail, nearly equal in length to her body, if not longer, is a slim plume of hair that drags along the ground behind her when she walks; this is a color similar to that of her scales, which lie flat and smooth and appear almost to be skin.
/ . . /
Her scales take on a color like the velvety blue-black of the night sky, speckled with silver dapples that appear identical to the stars when the moon rises. They appear to glitter when light reflects off of them, adding to the similarities to the night. Smooth to the touch, one could almost assume Cheimra's scales were but a layer of her skin, if not for the faint ridge as your fingers glide from scale to scale.
/ . . /
The dragon's eyes are a milky color, standing out against her dark scales with the help of the seemingly glowing circle between them. They lack the ability to see much more than silhouettes in the daylight but always hold their eerie shine regardless of the amount of light available.
/ . . /
Atop her head in place of horns, trailing down her back toward her shoulders are slim, delicate quills. They are not dangerous or sharp, but do have a bioluminescent poisonous coating to protect her from predators as a last resort while she rests.

. .
Personality:
Cheimra is a quiet dragon of a more reclusive nature; due to her nocturnal habits, she has a tendency to grow quite irritable and go into a protective overdrive when she is awake for long periods during the daylight hours. She hides beneath the wings or larger bodies of the other dragons, or travels within the shadows of their surroundings to limit the sunlight lessening her range of vision; she is not one to ask for permission to do this, and will instead give a quite cat-like hiss or purr to announce her presence to whomever she decides is worthy shade in the moment. When not reliant on another for protection from the sun and the ability to use her natural defenses, Cheimra has a preference to spend time on her own. She is quick to volunteer herself and/or her bonded for the nightly patrols, conjuring wings and taking to the air with or without her rider.
/ . . /
As for loyalty, Cheimra's is not ot be called into question. She would risk her life if it came down to it to protect her bonded, and though she would never tell them this does extend to their companions as well. If her partner likes you, she will as well. She shows her affections through providing for another, and will happily use her smaller stature to benefit the group through hunting, or using her dark scales to scout ahead for safe resting places when night falls over the land.
/ . . /
Not one to complain but certainly one to make her grievances known, Cheimra exhales smoke in the direction of whomever inconveniences or otherwise irritated her. She will never verbalize any ill feelings unless pushed to the limits of her patience, and instead casts sharp looks or releases hefty sighs until the hint is taken.
/ . . /
Cheimra is a maternal figure, having hatched several eggs of her own and seen dozens of hatchlings reach adulthood in her centuries of life. She is happy to take anyone under her wing, both literally and figuratively, and does all that she can to ensure those under her protection are well cared for. Those she considers to be her own are protected most fiercely, with the dragoness laying her own life on the line without a second's hesitation at the first sign of danger. She attacks with the ferocity of a new bear mother, with the determination of a lioness and the cunning of a fox. An intelligent species, Cheimra has learned how to use her small size to her advantage when faced with aggressors.
. .
Backstory:
Cheimra was born as every other Amorus; a single egg laid in a gloomy cave, with the moon filtering in through a large hole in the ceiling--dug out by her parents for ideal hatching conditions--so that she could absorb the moon's powers as she broke through her egg's protective casing. She was quick to learn and develop under the watchful eye of her mother and father, finding a particular enjoyment in the fish they would bring from the river beneath their den of choice.
/ . . /
She and her family were among the dragons to flee when Cheimra had a grasp on her ability to conjure wings, and the trio would travel by nightfall, hiding among the darkest of shadows during the day to rest in preparation for the next flight, taking turns in watching over the other two dragons. She would lose her father along the way as they flew over Eshal, the two females remaining near the place of his death for a time in mourning. While not traditionally pack animals, the Amorus species does bond for a lifetime, and will never take on a second partner following the passing of their first, and so Cheimra's mother had taken his death particularly hard.
/ . . /
They continued the journey after three nights had passed, the skin of the male Amorus long since taken to be made into armor for the Dryad armies.
/ . . /
Centuries would pass with Cheimra growing and developing as any young dragon of her species would in their new home. She would reach adulthood and leave her mother after learning all there was to learn in her care, claiming her own cave system and small hunting ground in a small section of her mother's territory. Here she would raise her own hatchlings, bonding closely with a male Amorus known in hunters' fireside stories as Gentleheart, as he was never known to take lives, instead assisting the captured dragon when able and fleeing.
/ . . /
Unfortunately, their partnership would not see the life of a new clutch; during the most recent Amorus pairing season, he traveled too far from the safety of their caves in search of material to line their nest. He fell to the claws of another Amorus male, mistaken for another potential suitor to another female because he crossed into her territory instead.
/ . . /
She still grieves the loss of Gentleheart, but the insistent pull of her bond lured her well away from his resting place. She has little to no memory of the lands of Agros, having fled when she was only a mere three decades old. Now having returned to the lands due to the calling of her newfound bond, she remains inside a forest bearing a river and cave systems for her to eat and stay hidden, though each night she remains awake and patrols the forest to discover new places she'd yet to explore, and see if her bonded has come for her; after all, she can no longer fly freely over the countries in search of them.
