[ My Form ]

Full Name:

Mererid Lian Liron
Nicknames:

Mer, Lia, Lian
Age:

Twemty-Two
Gender:

Female
Role:

Servant
Occupation:
Personal Servant;
She also often helps Healers when she can too.
Species:

Siren
Appearance:

Credit Belongs to Yu Bai on Neka.cc

Upon first setting eyes upon Mererid, the first thing anyone with eyes, and maybe even those without, will notice is the almost unnatural, ethereal beauty the young woman has to her. She's unique and unusual in appearance, but stunning nonetheless. a testimony to her Siren lineage. Standing at 5'7", she is neither tall nor short, and instead falls somewhere in between, with a lean but soft physique that screams femininity. Delicate curves and soft features make the young woman seem unintimidating, allowing others to naturally feel at ease around her, though this has just as much to do with what she is as it does who she is.

Despite her natural instincts to be outside around the sea, feeling the salt on the air and the sand on her feet, Mer spends most of her time inside the Royal Palace. Whether it is due to this or just her natural complexion, the Siren has a rather fair complexion. Not pale enough to be considered porcelain, surely she would tan lightly if she was outside enough. However, it also flushes easily, often staining her cheeks, ears, and/or neck a soft pinkish red hue. Often what part of her is turning red is the best way to read her.

Along with her pale complexion. Mererid also has rather pale eyes. They're such a light grey they're almost white, or, well, they are white. Seemingly bleached of any color, even her pupil seems rather light in comparison to the norm. This gives her a rather haunting, eerie look when making contact with her, which can make it difficult to meet her eyes and keep their focus for long. Aside from that, though, she has an almost elfish or fae-like appearance. She has pointed ears that plane to the side slightly, but round eyes that, despite their haunting look, have this almost inherit innocence to them. Her nose is short, but straight, coming to a soft point above her cupid's bow shaped lips.

In contrast to her pale skin and eyes, the young siren woman has rather dark, though it too is of a rather unusual color. Like a hue from the sea, Mererid's hair is a deep, dark blue-green color, rich in color, and causing her to stand out where ever she goes. It's long in length, reaching down her back in wavy locks.

Being a servant, Mererid tends to favor fashion that is on the simpler side. Typically dresses or outfits in natural tones or pastel colors, her favorites being light pink, or lavender. Paired with these clothes is often a dark cloak with a hood allowing her to traverse around without people telling who she is if the Royal Family needs her to. She prefers simplistic outfits, and doesn't bother even considering more luxurious fabrics for herself, knowing she likely couldn't afford them, or find an occasion to wear them.

Personality:

Kind | Intelligent | Caring | Wary of Others | Loyal | Friendly | Helpful | Confidant [To Her Friends] | Ear to the Ground | Always Has the Tea | Capable | Self Reliant | Resilient | Well Mannered | Dutiful

History:

Abilities:

Siren Song - Most known for this, Mer's Siren Song ability is by far her strongest and most versatile ability. It itself cannot harm anyone, but she can use it influence others to do harm for her. It can calm people if she desires, or it can influence their minds to do her bidding, etc. It doesn't have to be a negative thing, and it isn't just whenever she sings, she has to be channeling this ability in order for her singing to have the effects.

Sonic Scream - Her primary offensive skill, Mer can use her vocals to unleash a powerful sonic scream that comes with a concussive force as well as damaging ear drums. She can channel and focus it towards a singular or chosen enemies, or can send it out in an encompassing waves. The more focused it is, though, the stronger it is.

Enchanted Allure - A primarily passive ability, Mer's supernatural beauty comes with an unnatural allure to those around her. They're drawn to her, and those of the weakest will are unlikely to tell her no when she asks for things. Now she can dampen this ability so it isn't potent, but it's always present, with it's weakest affect just helping people be comfortable around her.

Death Song - Not to be confused with the above Siren Song, Mer's death song is a far more potent and dangerous thing. Typically only emitted when she's in severe danger or severely wounded, it's a sound so loud it's barely hearable, but so loud anyone near by not covering their ears will die from internal hemorrhaging of their brain. This will completely exhaust her abilities, so it's usually a last ditch effort to defend herself or to get away while her opponents are disorientated.

Currently, Mererid has no water abilities due to her time away from the sea. If she were to eventually live a life near, around, or on it, she would develop abilities that basically fed by the sea.

Strengths & Weaknesses:

Strengths
1. Enhanced Capabilities - Mererid has enhanced agility, reflexes, senses, and balance, which helps her a lot in day to day life, as well as in combat if needed. Homegirl can carry a stack of laundry taller than her head and never stumble.

2. Ability Versatility - Almost all of her abilities can be used in different ways, meaning she isn't a one trick pony with each ability, and can use them to benefit her in different ways.

3. Strong Swimmer - Being a Siren she is naturally in her element in and around water. She is an excellent swimmer, and feel extremely confident in water, even being able to hold her breath for an extended amount of time.

4. Level Headed - Mererid is a calm persona, keeping a level head even when in extreme duress. She can calmly think through things, and often come up with a plan, or calmly wait until help arrives.

Weaknesses
1. Strong Emotions - If Mer ever has a spell where she has an emotional outburst, it can cause her to lose temporary control over her abilities. These means using them when she didn't mean to, making them stronger or weaker than she wanted, or not being able to use them, etc.

2. Physical Strength - She might have agility, reflexes, etc. but she doesn't have as much enhanced strength compared to other species. She might be stronger than your average human, but not even to contend with stronger creatures when it comes to brute strength.

3. No Healing Ability - She heals at a normal rate, so she has to be careful of wounds and how hard she pushes herself. She is not immortal in the sense that she cannot be killed. She might not age quickly, but she can be killed just like a human.

4. No Water Abilities - While many Sirens develop water attributes, Mererid has developed none. This is due to the extended amount of time she has spent away from the sea.

Likes & Dislikes:

[Credit to _Modagit on Picrew]

At a towering height of 6'4", Kaan draws attention in any room he enters. His broad shoulders and muscular frame speak volumes about his dedication to maintaining strength and power. Each muscle rippling beneath his tanned skin with visible veins running down his arms. This man's physique is a towering testament to pure, unrestrained muscular power. His eyes are an interesting color, or rather lack of color. Kaan’s eyes are a striking silver, like twin pools of shimmering mercury. It can be quite startling when meeting his gaze and seeing such a soulless color. These captivating eyes are framed with thick eyelashes, enough to make others jealous. His thick, expressive black eyebrows sit above those enigmatic eyes. They are usually furrowed in deep thought. Crowning his head is a cascade of wavy, messy inky black hair that seems to have a mind of its own. The strands fall in an artful disarray, framing his face in an effortless yet appealing manner. Despite its unkempt appearance, his hair possesses a certain charm.

His smile is a rare gem that lights up his features. When he smiles, it's nothing short of dazzling. His smile has the power to light up a room. Kaan has a strong, chiseled jawline and a pair of endearing dimples that appear whenever he smiles. He has soft, full lips that have a slight pink/red hue to them. A light scruff has been appearing on his jawline, he prefers the clean-shaven look but he looks a lot younger without the scruff. Kaan has two thin scars marking his appearance. The first goes through his eye and the other starts at his nose before traveling to his check. The two scars come together, crossing each other. Instead of detracting from his attractiveness, the scar adds to his already striking appearance. Besides his scarring, Kaan is covered in tattoos. Various black and white ink masterpieces adorn his chest, arms, and back, starting from his collarbones and flowing seamlessly downward.

Other Apperance:

The transformation of Kaan into Shaya unveils a profound metamorphosis, where the very essence of Kaan undergoes a radical shift. Kaan has very little control when Shaya comes out to play as Shaya emerges as a distinct powerful entity.

As a hell-hound, Shaya's massive frame is adorned with sinewy muscles, visible beneath the sleek yet coarse texture of his fur. His body riddled with deep scars and wounds. Shaya's form is close to 10 feet tall, making him not the smallest but not the largest.

Not only is his height eye catching, he doesn't fit the normal description. Instead of a coal black coat, Shaya has a white coat that is tinged with a subtle red gradient, that seems to catch the ambient light in a way that creates an ethereal glow. His fur radiates with an otherworldly energy, almost as if it is aflame with infernal power. Or just eternally stained with blood, no one ever knows. Dark, smoky fur forms a dramatic and seamless connection from the corners of his eyes, gracefully tracing a path along the contours of his head, and culminating just behind the base of his tall horns.

The black eyes of the hell-hound are deep pools of darkness. Within those obsidian gems, a vivid yellow blaze burns, akin to the fires of the underworld. The contrast between the blackness and the fiery yellow creates a mesmerizing yet chilling effect. When his mouth opens, the ivory daggers are revealed in all their terrifying glory. The canines are elongated and serrated, resembling the deadly fangs of a mythical predator. Each tooth seems to radiate an eerie phosphorescent glow, adding a spectral quality to the creature's maw. When the hell-hound snarls, his jaw unhinging with an unnatural flexibility, the teeth become even more pronounced. The snarl reveals a row of secondary, smaller incisors that contribute to the creature's efficient tearing of flesh.

Perched atop of Shaya's formidable head are tall, elegantly twisted black spiral horns, similar of the gnarled branches of ancient trees. Each horn spirals upward with an almost hypnotic precision. As the hell-hound moves, his sinuous tail sways with a serpentine grace, leaving a subtle trail of smoky wisps in its wake. Kaan's other form seems to carry a faint scent of brimstone with every step.

Personality:

Like a predator stalking its prey, Kaan possesses keen instincts that help him assess situations with a discerning eye. His ability to sense vulnerabilities in people and circumstances makes him a master at identifying advantageous opportunities. Kaan is a killer at heart, and has honed his skills for years. Kaan's actions are not impulsive; they are carefully calculated moves designed to achieve his objectives. He weighs risks and rewards with meticulous precision, often executing his plans with a cold determination that leaves little room for error. His lack of mercy sets him apart as a dangerous force. Kaan rarely extends compassion or forgiveness, and his actions towards those who cross him are relentless and unyielding. He believes that displaying mercy is a sign of weakness and is quick to exploit any perceived vulnerability. Kaan's sharp wit and cunning are not just for show; they are tools of manipulation. He is skilled at steering conversations, orchestrating events, and playing on the emotions and weaknesses of others to achieve his own ends. His ability to manipulate situations to his advantage adds to his aura of danger. Kaan understands the potency of fear as a weapon. He employs psychological tactics to keep others on edge, using the threat of his potential actions to bend situations to his advantage. This mastery over fear gives him an upper hand in any conflict. Kaan views life as an eternal game of chess, where every move has consequences and potential casualties. His approach mirrors that of a grandmaster, always thinking several steps ahead to ensure he remains in control of the board. His brutish nature perfectly molded him into the killer-knight he is today.

Kaan is naturally distrustful of others. He approaches new relationships and interactions with caution, always wondering about hidden motives and ulterior intentions. This wariness stems from his belief that people often act out of self-interest rather than genuine kindness. Kaan is an astute observer who critically analyzes situations, statements, and behaviors. He tends to see beyond surface appearances and questions the authenticity of what he witnesses. His skepticism compels him to dig deeper for hidden meanings or inconsistencies. Kaan’s cynicism often manifests in his communication style. He employs sarcasm and sharp wit to express his doubts and criticisms, using humor as a defense mechanism against the potential vulnerability of showing his true emotions. Kaan tends to anticipate unfavorable outcomes in most situations. His mindset is grounded in pessimism, leading him to expect disappointment, betrayal, or failure, even when evidence suggests otherwise. This negative anticipation shields him from potential hurt, as he believes that preparing for the worst is a more practical approach. Kaan chooses his social interactions carefully, preferring quality over quantity. He believes that most interactions lack genuine substance and sincerity, so he invests his time and energy only in relationships that prove their worth through consistency and authenticity.

Unfortunately for him, Kaan’s commanding presence naturally positions him as an authority figure, his assertiveness and confidence inspire others to look to him for guidance and direction. In the midst of chaos, Kaan establishes discipline and order within his pack. He sets high standards for himself and demonstrates the work ethic and dedication he expects from his team. Kaan’s leadership shines when it comes to decision-making. He's unafraid to make tough calls, taking into account various perspectives and information. Kaan has grown fond of the little group that has developed, which makes it hard not to teach them. He extends them his knowledge in the art of survival, sharing his skills amidst dangerous circumstances. Kaan’s knack for manipulation and strategy extends to forming alliances. He recognizes the benefits of having powerful connections, using his dangerous charm to forge alliances that advance his goals while keeping potential adversaries at bay.

Kaan’s harsh nature and complex personality often lead to isolation. He's aware that his actions and demeanor set him apart, making it difficult for others to truly understand him. This loneliness is both a result of his persona and a contributing factor to it. While he's generally distrustful, Kaan is capable of forming bonds built on cautious trust. He carefully selects individuals whom he believes can serve his purposes or align with his goals, and he may let down his guard with them to a limited extent. Kaan would kill anyone for those he is loyal to, no matter the consequences, and no matter whose life. He is willing to drop everything for them. Despite his imposing exterior, Kaan has vulnerabilities he guards fiercely. He keeps his true weaknesses hidden, as revealing them would be akin to offering his adversaries a weapon against him. Beneath the cold layers lies a flicker of benevolence. Though rare, Kaan might show unexpected kindness, especially to those he deems worthy.

History:

Kaan's origins are veiled in mystery, as if his past had been carefully erased or buried beneath layers of enigma. The first known traces of him emerged in the dimly lit alleys of an ancient city.

Raised in the shadows in the streets, Kaan's early years were a testament to survival in a world teeming with arcane forces. His first shift, a transformative event, occurred when a gunshot pierced his chest. The pain triggered a metamorphosis that defied the laws of nature.

In that pivotal moment, Shaya, the large hell-hound, took control, to heal the human form. The transformation was not a mere shift in appearance; it was a manifestation of the infernal power coursing through his veins. Shaya, a creature of ethereal white fur tinged with red, emerged as a formidable entity that embodied the predatory instincts that lurked within Kaan's soul. Kaan had always known he would shift into his alter at some point, yet little is known about what causes one to shift. However, a prevailing theory suggests that pain is a crucial component of the transformation. It isn't until the first shift does the battle of control begin.

The fusion of their essences created a being with capabilities beyond mortal comprehension. The brutish man became a living conduit for the arcane, navigating the realm with newfound prowess. His history unfolded as a tale of blood and shadows—an assassin, a warrior, a murderer. Each act, whether to quench Shaya's bloodlust or Kaan's own desires, left a trail of darkness that etched his legacy.

Both are very secretive about their past, constantly changing Kaan's name and appreance. Neither of them knows how they ended up in the Prince's court as a knight. Though, they are a legendary weapon to have with their experience. Kaan sees this as a chance of redemption, while Shaya knows you can't save a damned soul.

Abilities:

Invisibility

Shaya can make himself invisible (and inaudible) to all.

*except those with psychic abilities or supernatural senses.

Infernal Flames

Shaya can unleash intense and supernatural flames, turning his breath into a deadly weapon.

Soul Draining Bite

The intense bite of Shaya can drain the life force from his targets. This is how he feeds and maintains his strength. Usually a trail of bodies follow in his wake, even if he is well-fed, he enjoys the hunt.

Psychic Torment

Those of weaker wills may be terrorized by horrific hallucinations, panic, and elevated levels of stress.

Strengths:

Sharp Wit and Cunning

Kaan's sharp wit and cunning are tools of manipulation, allowing him to steer conversations and orchestrate events to his advantage.

Leadership and Decision-Making

In the midst of chaos, Kaan establishes discipline and order within his pack, demonstrating strong leadership and unafraid decision-making.

Strategic Thinking

Kaan views life as a strategic game of chess, always thinking several steps ahead to ensure control and dominance.

Enhance Abilities

Hellhounds boast heightened senses, extraordinary speed exceeding most vehicles, enhanced stamina that emerges during hunts, and exceptional strength allowing them to break through obstacles, overturn vehicles, and pursue prey with relentless determination.

Weaknesses:

Iron, salt, and symbols

Weapons made of iron, particularly cold iron, are sufficient to harm these beasts. Similarly, salt and certain symbols can be detrimental.

Conditional Triggering

The transformation from Kaan to Shaya has specific triggers. When shifting into Shaya, Kaan has little to no control over Shaya. He is essentially put into a small box, his sense of time is disrupted, which means Shaya could be in control for days, weeks or months at a time.

Cynicism and Skepticism

His cynicism and skepticism lead him to question authenticity and anticipate unfavorable outcomes in most situations.

Pessimistic Mindset

Kaan tends to expect disappointment, betrayal, or failure, adopting a pessimistic mindset as a practical approach.

Crush:
Potentially
S.O./Spouse:
None. They will know their mate.
Past Relationships:
He has only had a few previous serious relationships. Kaan had wanted to enjoy the warmth of others yet Shaya thinks flings are beneath them, patiently waiting for their mate.
Kin:
None that he knows of.

Mererid Lian Liron

Pale eyes stared out the window of her small room as she ran a brush idley through her hair. The tangles had long since left the strands of the section she was brushing, but she was too lost in thought to realize. Her lips pursed in thought as the distant hum of servant chatter could be heard floating in from underneath her door. Many had already been up before the sun rose readying the palace for the arrival of so many noteable guests. While the Royal Palace couldn't host them all in rooms, it could at least host those of royalty and nobility attending the coming week, while those of lesser status were houses in guest houses throughout the attached town.

Blinking away the thoughts so that her bleary eyes cleared, she finished brushing her hair and tossed it back over her shoulder with a quick gesture. She adorned one of her favorite dresses, a middle shin length dress with sleeves that reached her elbows. It covered her enough that it wasn't insulting to Royalty or Nobility to see, but also was a little bit nicer than her normal dress. She smoothed the soft blue fabric with her hands and then fashioned on her clean white apron over it to prevent any stains from reaching the nicer dress.

Slipping on a pair of brown flats she exited her small room within the Servant's quarters quietly and headed to her first station for the day: Laundry. It was easily her favorite, as she spent most of the morning out with the wash bins cleaning clothes, linens, and more, and then hanging them up to dry. It was one of the few places she could talk with other servants, knights of the castle, and other guests freely without anyone really noticing. Chatter was always amidst those doing Laundry, and no one thought any different about it.

Gathering baskets from the rooms she was assigned, she headed out to the wash bins, to her favorite large one in the back, and set the baskets down beside it. Thankfully most let her have this one to herself instead of being forced to share it. There were some perks to having works for the Palace since she was a child.

Humming softly she set to work on the first basket, dumping the cloth into the water and using a large stick to mix the linens in, before rolling up here sleeves and getting to work on cleaning. The gentle melody came from her lips easily as she worked, finding an easy, steady rhythm as she did, allowering herself to get lost in thought, leaving her completely unaware of those around her for the moment.

Kaan Allistar Barlow

Shaya

___________

Kaan observed the activities outside the window with detached interest. The bustling preparations for the arrival of notable guests seemed unimportant to him. He finished combing the inky black strands of his hair, thick and unruly, before staring at himself in the mirror. His chest burned as he felt Shaya’s presence stir.

"You look like a proper lad now, Kaan. Trying to be a noble?" Shaya sneered, his voice twisted as it floated in Kaan’s head. He grimaced, running his fingers quickly through his hair to mess it up a bit more, feeling Shaya purr with approval. The concept of dressing in finer garments held little appeal, but the practicality of the task demanded it.

He selected an attire that struck a balance between presentability and functionality—a dark ensemble that concealed more than it revealed. His attire was practical, Shaya was right in that, he was a knight, not a noble.

Cloaked in shadows, he wore a tailored ensemble that spoke of a silent, deadly grace. A dark, form-fitting tunic adorned his broad shoulders, the fabric seamlessly merging with the contours of his muscular frame that cut off right at his hips. His trousers, equally dark and tailored, allowed for ease of movement, emphasizing the powerful muscles that propelled him with predatory precision. The boots, sturdy and practical, completed the ensemble, their dark leather blending seamlessly with the shadows that clung to Kaan's every step.

As he exited the room, his imposing figure moved with a certain grace, each step deliberate. Kaan's eyes, however, remained distant, as if he saw beyond the immediate surroundings. As Kaan navigated the palace corridors, the rhythmic cadence of his footsteps echoed the internal conflict. The distant gaze remained fixed, a veil over the penetrating silver eyes that scrutinized the world through a lens of detached observation. The events unfolding around him seemed like a fleeting spectacle—temporary, inconsequential.

The whispers of Shaya lingered, a constant commentary that danced on the edge of Kaan's consciousness. "These humans play their games, don their masks. But beneath it all, they're oblivious to the true dance of power," Shaya mused, a hint of amusement tainting the words.

As Kaan surveyed the unfolding events, the smirk on his lips betrayed a silent acknowledgment of Shaya's observation. The dance of protocol, the intricacies of nobility—all veiled attempts to grasp at power. Today, Kaan found himself tasked with guarding a maiden from a far-off land, a duty that Shaya openly disdained. Yet, in the smirk that curled Kaan's lips, there lay an understanding—a recognition that today's theater was indeed about power, albeit in its nuanced forms.

In the quiet corridors of the palace, Kaan moved with the deliberate grace of a predator, his senses attuned to the subtle shifts in the air. The festivities in the surroundings faded into the background as he focused on the task at hand. His assignment awaited him in the Grand Hall, where his Commander will assign him a maiden to guard. Shaya twisted inside of Kaan, the thought of guarding another who wasn’t his mate disgusted him.

Yet, there he was, awaiting his assignment. A stoic figure among the assembly of knights, each adorned in similar attire. Black tunic, black pants, and black boots. They wouldn't be wearing their formal outfits until later, when the guests offically arrive. The air in the Grand Hall hummed with anticipation as they awaited the Commander's voice to resonate through the space, reading the names of the maidens and the knights destined to guard them.

Mererid Lian Liron

A soft hum transitioned quietly to a haunting song of low vocals, the melody carrying and falling as the words murmured from petal colored lips.

"/Cruel and Cold like winds on the sea/
/Will you ever return to me/
/Hear my voice sing with the tide/
/My love will never die/"

While the laundry area began to grow with occupants, their hushed voices didn't rise to drown out the gentle song. Instead, everyone seemed to have a subtle respect for it, listening in and movng to the eerie rhythm of the melody. Some, having heard it plenty of times, quietly hummed along, creating a melodic chorus within the linens draped over lines to dry.

"/Over waves and deep in the blue
I will give up my heart for you
Ten long years I'll wait to go by
My love will never die/"

Mererid straightened from her position over the wash bin, and began to hang up the remaining clothes she had to do. These weren't her only laundry baskets to do, she woud need to collect more, but the ones she had for now were done.

Stretching her arms over her head as her song transitioned back to humming, the chattered whispers of the surrounding servants and residents rising. Grabbing her empty baskets she set them to the side before heading back into the Palace for her next set, knowing she would have to likely make another two trips after this one before she was finished. Truthfully, Mererid took on more laundry than any other servant, having volunteered for the task because she genuinely enjoyed it.

She had just reached her first basket for her second round, humming as she went when she paused in her step. Her eyes cast about before locking on the double doors that blocked her sight to the gentle murmur on the other side. Her instincts and ears told her that many of the knights were on the other side.

Kaan.

She thought to herself, and then let her humming grow in volume, though still low by all means so it wasn't obvious it was meant to be herd. Then, she shifted back to song, allowing the timbre of her voice carry through the halls, reverberating off the walls.

"/Come my love be one with the sea
Rule with me for eternity
Drown all dreams so mercilessly
And leave their souls to me

Play the song you sang long ago
And wherever the storm may blow
You will find the key to my heart
We'll never be apart

Wild and strong you can't be contained
Never bound nor ever chained
Wounds you caused will never mend
And you will never end/"

The song had been something Mererid's own mother had sang to her growing up, and was one of the first she had ever learned herself. She'd realized early on that while it was more of a lullaby to her mother, it was more for her. If there was ever a song that Mererid felt her powers swell through, it was that one. It wasn't her only song to sing, of course, but it felt like it was meant for her.

"/Cruel and cold like winds on the seas
Will you ever return to me
Hear my voice sing with the tide
Our love will never die/"

The song finally came to a close, but instead of falling silent she once again began to hum, the familiar melody of the song continuing to fall from her lips. Whilist she walked back to the Wash Bins, she couldn't help but wonder if she'd have a visitor soon. Surely he had heard her, right?

The flickering torches cast dancing shadows across the marble walls, adding an ephemeral quality to the scene. Kaan's silver eyes, like twin pools of mercury, remained fixed ahead. The names, written in elegant script, held the promise of alliances, the potential for treachery, and the fate for the future King.

The knights, silent guardians in their dark ensembles, exuded an air of restrained readiness. As the Commander's voice resonated through the grand hall, each knight braced for the revelation that would bind them to their assigned charge. Princess Vivian Darrington, along with her escort, Prince Victor Darrington. That was the woman Kaan would protect, with his life if he must. The Darrington Twins, Kaan has heard quite the stories about the two.

In the quiet moments after the announcement, Kaan's mind remained a fortress of calm, a testament to the discipline that defined his nature. A haunting melody reached his ears, and Shaya seized upon it instantly. Kaan closed his eyes for a moment, letting the song flow over his skin. Goosebumps erupted over his body as he battled Shaya for control.

Shaya wanted to leave, go to his mate, and let her sing to them. Kaan knew he had to wait to be dismissed, but Shaya had little patience. His eyes flashed between silver and black, showcasing the internal battle, yet that was the only sign of it. "Doesn’t our mate sound pretty?" Shaya purred, his voice like smoke lingering around Kaan, wrapping him tight. Kaan remained still and quiet.

"Yours," Kaan mused in response, "Your mate."

Shaya snarled, inching closer to gaining control, "Ours. I am a part of you as you are a part of me. She is a part of us." Kaan clenched his jaw in response.

The internal struggle continued as the haunting melody persisted, her siren's call that sought to draw Kaan away. Shaya's presence grew stronger, a powerful force encircling Kaan's consciousness. "Our mate, our oiseau chanteur," Shaya whispered, the words a seductive caress that reverberated within Kaan's mind. The silver eyes flashed with a momentary darkness, a fleeting sign of the ongoing battle. “Do you think our oiseau chanteur will sing for us?”

Before Kaan could answer, the Commander's voice cut through the silent reverie, announcing the dismissal of the knights to their assigned duties. Kaan turned on his heel, quickly exiting the hall. Shaya's whispers continued, tugging at the edges of Kaan's focus. Kaan was to report to Princess Vivian's room, and wait for her arrival. It wasn’t until Kaan got to the entry of the Wash Bin did he realize he was no longer in control.

Predatory eyes watched Mererid. Shaya cracked his - Kaan's - neck, filling his senses with a chilling anticipation as he neared their mate. You wouldn’t know Shaya was in control at first glance, yet it was the eyes that gave it away. Kaan's silver eyes were replaced with Shaya's obsidian ones, with a blazing yellow within its depths. “We heard your song, oiseau chanteur.” Shaya called softly to the siren, moving slowly to her like a predator stalking prey. Each step was deliberate and purposeful. Kaan sneered, he hated the pet name Shaya gave Mererid. Oiseau Chanteur, French for songbird. It wasn’t as clever as Shaya thought it was. To Kaan, she was just Mer, sweet Mer. As much as he denied it, Mer meant everything to him - them.

Kaan's response was a seething undertone, a whisper that danced on the edge of the wind. "You will scare her. She doesn't even want you—us. Desperation doesn't look well on you." The calculated provocation aimed to shake Shaya's grip of control.

“You have no place to talk, meat-suit. You know, as good as I do, she will accept us once she is free," Shaya's growl cut through, his words resonating with certainty. Yet, Kaan could feel a sliver of uncertainty, grasping for it as Shaya refocused on Mererid once more.

Mererid Lian Liron

Adept hands moved expertly in the water as she swirled the linens in the water, the liquid warm from the sun overhead. She went through the motions so familiar to her, her eyes hazed with a distant fog. Wring, washboard, rinse, hang and repeat. Nimble fingers worked stains and dirt out of the material as she cleaned, her eyes unfocused as she hummed mindlessly, functioning on an almost instinctual basis.

She had just returned to the bin, running a shirt, she premused, along the washboard, when the skin along her nape stood up on end. That ever sinking feeling someone got whenever they were locked in the sights of something predatory. Her instincts rang for her to flee, to turn around, to defend herself from whatever had it's gaze on her.

Eyes refocusing she slowly turned her head, scanning around before she locked onto the familiar dark visage of a Knight. Petal lips lifted slightly in a small smile, and she cocked her head to the side inquistively as he prowled towards her.

"Kaan," the name rolled off her tongue like the subtle ring of a bell, a sing song sound that proved she'd spoken the name many times before. Upon speaking it though, she realized she was incorrect when she took in the color of his eyes. Rather than the familiar sheen of silver she was used to, a pair of obsidian pools with yellow depths stared at her unwaveringly. Her suspicions were only confirmed when she heard her familiar pet name.

"Shaya," she breathed softly, her lips pursing afterwards as she studied the man before her. She knew both halves of her counterpart, and despite their combined nature she adored them both. "Are you giving Kaan a hard time this morning?" She chided softly, but there was no real judgement in her tone. Instead there was an obvious softness in her gaze as she strode forward and lifted her hands to begin to pin the shirt to the dry line. In the process, she briefly brushed her right hand against his armm a subtle show of affection.

"Were you two assigned a Maiden to guard?" Mererid tried to hide the slight... edge to her words and focused on keeping the worry from her brow. She trusted both of them, as she seemed to have earned both Kaan and Shaya's affection, but the idea of the man she adored being assigned to a young, beautiful, and single woman for the duration of the next week had her feeling a bit odd. There was an oily feeling swirling her gut, clenching and making her feel uneasy. She wasn't certain of the emotion, but she suspected it was jealousy. The more time she spent with the Hellhound, the more she found herself feeling such possessive emotions.

Her eyes flicked back to his face, taking in his handsome features and smiled fully finally, reaching up to run her thumb over his lips and then chin affectionately. "You'll keep both of you safe, right?" Mererid knew with the linens billowing around them that it was unlikely anyone would see them sharing such a moment.

"Mon Coeur," she murmured softly, her cheeks lighting softly with a dusting of blush, her hands wringing her apron slightly. Worry temporarily creased her forehead, and she decided to voice her concern to the darker half of Kaan, the canine part of him that always seemed more primal, more instinctual. She didn't think Shaya would lie to her even if he could, which she was sure he could, but he didn't seem the type to waste the energy to do it.

"Shaya," she breathed again, reaching out gently to thumb over the back of his hand gently, making sure she had his attention. "I worry I will lose my shine to you, and the fondness you guys show me with be transitioned to another fair maiden. There will be so many here, so many far better options for you... Do I have anything to fear?"

"I care both for you deeply, I think my song would lose it's spirit if I lost either of you," she admited softly, her cheeks coating further with blush, a little embarrased to so heartedly admit both her feelings and worries in one statement.

Truthfully, though, the thought had been weighing on her as soon as she had found out that fair maidens from across the world would be venturing to their Kingdom. Even more so when she found out many of the guards would be assigned to be the personal guards of said Maidens. It made her, a mere servant, feel insignificant by comparison.

Shaya

___________

Shaya hummed softly as Mererid acknowledged them. A scowl raced across his face as Mererid asked if he was giving Kaan a hard time, yet it quickly disappeared as her subtle show of affection elicited a low purr from the Hellhound. "Nothing he can't handle," he huffed in annoyance as he felt Kaan's grip beginning to tighten.

Hearing Mererid ask about the Maidens confused Shaya slightly. Why would his precious mate be worried about some Maiden? Shaya held on for a moment longer as his instincts wrestled with Kaan's disciplined response. The primal gaze lingered on Mererid, assessing the nuances of her expression. Shaya recognized the undercurrent of worry, the subtle edge in her words, yet allowed Kaan to regain control - for a moment, a test.

Silver eyes blinked rapidly back into existence. Kaan rolled his shoulders and rubbed his forehead as he got comfortable in his body again. It was an unexplainable experience, shifting between the two. "Yes, Mer. I have been assigned to Princess Vivian Darrington. Her twin will also be accompanying her," Kaan spoke with mild annoyance. Not with her, but with Shaya playing his games though he didn’t care to clarify that with her. Kaan caught the edge to her words. Jelousy? Concern? Worry? He paused only for a moment before quickly dismisisng them.

While he empathized that it must be hard on Mererid to see him with another single Maiden, it wasn’t like he wanted to do this; it was orders, ones that he would not disobey. “The maidens are here for the Prince, not a knight.” Kaan finally huffed out, running his fingers through his hair. It was a cruel response, part of him regretted saying it. He wasn’t sure why he was being cold to Mer, she was their mate.

"How dare you be so disrespectful to our mate. Reassure her she is the only one. That none will ever compare. Quickly," Shaya snarled loudly in Kaan’s head, making Kaan pinch the bridge of his nose and shut his eyes for a moment. As Mererid's thumb ran over Kaan’s lips and chin, his eyes opened and a soft growl vibrated beneath the surface as Kaan nodded stiffly in response. Kaan's lips and chin felt on fire from her touch. She rarely ever touched them; they couldn’t risk being seen.

It was easier for Kaan to build up a wall to Mererid and avoid their matebond. He was scared of rejection, scared of finally letting another person in. Being with him - them - meant being in danger and Kaan didn't know if he could do that to Mer. He knew the bond was undeniable, an invisbile string tying their souls together. While Shaya would play fetch if she asked him to, believing she would accept them fully someday. Shaya was much more compliant with her around, so watchful and protective. Instinctively, Kaan pulled back slightly, leaning away from her touch as he clenched his jaw. His eyes gleamed with conflicting emotions, in a blink, they were gone. His eyes were cold and reserved once more.

As soon as she spoke Shaya’s name, Kaan’s presence was gone. This time, Kaan didn’t put up a fight. He just let go. Shaya wasn't even sure if he grabbed control himself, rather Kaan forced Shaya into control. Shaya leaned into her touch, his obsidian eyes softened as he watched a light blush creep up on her cheeks. He would freeze this moment if he could. His beautiful siren.

Shaya stiffened when she spoke about her concerns. Anger seared through him as he recgonized the worry laced in her voice. Shaya’s eyes burned brightly as he stepped closer to her, gently grasping her hands. Shaya didn't care if someone saw them. He would kill them, quickly. His only concern was making sure his mate, his oiseau chanteur, his Mererid knew how special she was.

"Your shine, oiseau chanteur, is unlike any other. It won't be dimmed by the presence of others. Our bond is strong, woven with threads of destiny that transcend the connections of this realm," Shaya's response was a low, rumbling reassurance. “You are my mate. No one will have my attention as much as you. No one will have our bond,” he watched her cheeks deepen in color. Shaya noted Kaan hadn’t intervened, which he didn’t know was a good or bad thing. It was unlike Kaan to be so silent, especially with Mererid. Shaya would address Kaan’s disrespect later. For now, he was happy to be with his mate, without further interruption.

Oh how Shaya loved to hear those words come from his songbird’s mouth. Shaya's gaze remained fixed on Mererid, his words hanging in the air like a promise. "Our bond is unbreakable," he murmured, a subtle growl underscoring the assurance.
