Liquid precipatation would fall heavily from the pitch black sky above the dense forest. A flash of light followed by a long and loud rumble would erupt from the sky only to be silenced by an abrupt crack. It would seem as though all creatures small and large had sought coverage from the storm that poured on. The air grew cool and the forest was quiet with exception of the drumming of heavy rain against the leaves of oak, pine, and maple trees. Any and all scents of prey or predator were now drowned and washed away by puddles of mud and standing water.

Hidden and well protected by the large roots of a well-aged oak was a burrow. It was a rather deep burrow and angled in such a way that prevented waterlogging from occuring. It's single resident was a feral feline. A silver female European Shorthair with an athletic sleek build rummaged through her burrow.

"Ugh. Where is it?" she asked herself aloud.

Continuing to rummage through a variety of animal hides she had finally found what she had been looking for. An otter pelt. Noticing her food stores had become depleted the dam had opted to scout the local vicinity of her humble abode in search of a meal. The rain would not make it easy to find prey but with an otter hide she would not have to concern herself with a drenched pelt nor with having to blend herself into her surroundings. While a darker pigmented pelt would be an ideal darwinistic advantage for her she had been blessed with the recessive genes of her patriarch.

Now prepared to hunt the silvery queen would slip out of her burrow. Blue ice cold piercing optics scanned the area. Empty and quiet. Peering down toward the forest floor she would search for track marks. Unfortunately, none would be found.

"It seems as though today may be more of a fishing day," she said aloud once more.

Sighing briefly she would saunter off toward a nearby stream. Already the stream had begun to show signs of overflowing thus what once was a stream became more of a rapid. Frowning at the sight the she-cat would turn away to wander through the forest once more.

Rumbling crackled above as rain lashed down drenching everything below. The world have become dark, and cold. All life has been hushed by the pounding as water clashed with the ground.

Yellow eyes peered out from within a bush looking for a better spot to escape this detestable time. The figure launched forward as lightning flashed lighting up its features. A dark tom, soaked to the core, darted from tree, to bush, to...tree. one might think he has lost his sanity sprinting around like a mad man. Lucky that's not the case. The problem is everywhere is muddy. Its just disgusting, the male did not like it one bit.

"How did i get stuck in this predicament?"

He had been traveling for a couple of days if not weeks. He lost count. If he'd have know that rain was to come before he arrive at his destination. Running sometime along the way could have prevented this situation. Instead shivering in the cold rain was his unfortunate fate. Ears flattened against his head. He exhaled a shaky breath while he sat next to the base of a tree huddled up. What were the odds of getting sick. That thought was sickening. Just when he was about to move on, a glimpse of silver caught his attention. Another....feline? Out here? Was he being followed? Surely not right, and what was she wearing? His eyes narrowed, never leaveing the she-cat as she sauntered off somewhere into the trees. The male slunk forward. He examined the entrance giving it a few good sniffs.

"It doesn't seem like anyone else is home."

Glancing over his shoulder there was no sight of a returning owner so with that he entered. The sound of rain died down the further he went untill he reached the bottom. Water flung everywhere as he shook himself. Looking around it would appear that there was things that could be seen here and there. But he paid no heed towards whatever it was.

"Ok. Stay here just for a few minutes. No more no less. Then leave. I just need to dry off a bit."

This was indeed very rude of him. To enter someone else's home with out permission. He was a little desperate, besides he would be out before anyone returns. He found a darkened area to settle down, and curled up into a ball. Ahh now this was more like it. A dry place. Without the worry of continuously getting wet. Even better, perhaps there was enough time just to get a tad bit of sleep. After all his travels was exhausting. Slowly the tom dozed off mumbling a few words.

"Five minutes, just five minutes..."

The silver she-cat would continue to trudge through the dense muck that was once the forest floor with little displeasure shown across her soft pallid face. Splishing and splashing across the existing puddles the dove truthfully did not mind the elements of nature, despite how aggressive they were. She was familiar with almost every portion of the forest, having been raised there for most of her life. Her mother was a snow mink Bengal and her father a silver European short hair like herself. Fortunately, their gene pools had favored her and her siblings, of which who had left the land long ago and sought a location of their own to reside in.

Her thin silhouette swayed from side to side as she drew closer to her humble abode. Gazing about to ensure the privacy of her burrow she would emit a quick sigh before slipping inside. Empty-handed and muddy the dove would grumble softly, shaking herself off at the entryway. Before making her way any further she would notice soggy damp pawprints extending further into her den.

‘Well, these are certainly not my tracks nor that of a hare or fox,’ she thought silently.

Bringing her snout closer she would inspect the pawprints further. She would identify the neighboring scent of a feline unfamiliar to her and her once calm expression would shift toward a frown.

‘Ugh, what a travesty! An intruder and uninvited guest in my humble abode,’ she would silently retort to herself.

Inaudibly following the depth of her burrow she would reach the end to find an obsidian tom curled into a ball resting. His fur had stuck to him so much it made him appear emaciated as most felines would appear when drenched. While he was trespassing she began to debate with herself on how to proceed.

‘Bat him on the head and chase him out. But, do I really want to seem like some crazy she-cat living in some hole in the ground underneath an oak tree? Surely, he is aware of his wrongdoing and likely isn’t to cause any harm,’ she continued on her mental rambling whilst observing silently, ‘He seems to have traveled far considering how worn out his paws appear. He is soaking wet to the bone, do you really want to disturb his rest and kick him out to die of some respiratory infection?’ Frowning even further the dove knew what to do.

Removing her otter skin she would set it aside to dry on its own. Aiming her sights at the jumbled mess of pelts she had abandoned before her outing she would pull a fox pelt out of the bunch and walk over to her newfound guest draping it over the male.

‘There.’ She said silently to herself, soon claiming a seat not too far away and sinking down to lay and groom herself whilst still keeping an eye on the coal painted tom.

What was supposed to be five minutes turned into a long slumber. By now his fur was already partially dry and scruffy looking. The tom hardly heard the arrival of the she-cat. After all, there was little to nothing that could wake him, but there were a few exceptions. One particular thing is that if anything touching a single strand of hair (without him knowing what it is) would have him in a panic. In this case, the fox pelt that had been placed atop the male had him fully awake within seconds.

"A snake!!" He yelled.

The tom leaped up, quickly batting the fox pelt mid-air sending it flying across the burrow. His landing wasn't the smoothest it looked more like a crash landing. A low grunt emitted from him as he stumbled a bit before he regained his foot. His fur puffed out making him appear bigger as he stared at what was supposed to be a 'snake'. Only then did realization smacked him in the face.

"Wait that's right, I took shelter in someone else's burrow and...... Oh no, I overslept didn't i."

Once again he caught sight of that familiar silver hue. Glancing at the she-cat. Embarrassed, he stood up tall and cleared his throat as he shifted uncomfortably.

"I-err umm…. I was just." You were caught red-handed now how are you going to get out of this one huh?

"Damn well this is awkward," he muttered.

A foolish mistake got him into a misfortune state. His eyes found the ground. How could he be so careless? The decision to take a quick nap was regrettable. He vowed to himself to never commit such brash acts again. The tip of his tail flicked as he thought there was no way he'll get away with his rudeness. He doubted it. Though glancing back at the pale cat. There was no sign of any ill intentions. She seemed to be rather calm but she still placed uncertainty in him. He had no idea what she was thinking. Taking a deep breath, the raven-colored male stood up speaking in a deep tone.

"Sincere apology for the unexpected intrusion. I will be removing myself from the vicinity of your home. This occurrence won't happen again." He dipped his head. Turning, he headed for the entrance rather quickly.

"Hurry, hurry because something comes up." He silently said.

Before having any time to claim a seat the damsel would quickly turn her attention to the once snoozing sire who was now wavering in all sort of directions. She would quickly leap forward to avoid being hit by the tussling male. His abrupt reaction after having placed the fox pelt on top of him was rather odd, granted it was likely expected if he had been traveling alone. The silver dove continued peering on as the tom battered the pelt and flung it across her burrow. She would flicker an aud as he shouted “A snake!” Raising a single brow the femme contined to watch the scene continue on. Both brows were now raised and her widened large icy azure pools made contact with the males gaze. Her demeanor would shift as the tom’s gaze moved from her to the ground in embarassment. Before she could utter another word the masculine had apologized for his unwelcomed intrusion into her humble abode and made a hasty exit.

Uh…. Errr… wait!” she shouted after the tom. Quickly rising to her paws and following suit after him. Her slender physique allowed her to have the upmost agility granted, it only took one swipe of a hefty paw to throw her off course and a swipe from the right candidate would easily render her to the ground.

You are welcome to stay for the remainder of the evening if you’d like… at least until the storm blows over.” She would call forth, assuming he had already made his way out of the tunneling system and was waiting at the entrance.

Had she managed to catch up to him at the entrance of the burrow should would set her pale blue eyes upon the inky tom running a paw shyly through the dirt and flickering her tail tip.

It was a bit rude of me not to formally introduce myself, but I am Adara.” She would add gingerly.

Had he managed to find his way out of her burrow, she would follow behind him stealthily as to catch him once he settled some place else.

“You are welcome to stay for the remainder of the evening if you’d like… at least until the storm blows over.”

Very tempting words. It almost had him turn around as the ongoing storm still boomed overhead. He stood standing at the mouth of the burrow contemplating if he should stay or go. Surely the rain would stop soon right? He could find some other place to abide in, at the price of another shower that is. Which was something he didn't want to go through again. He was sure he would get sick if he was to get drenched once more and that will decrease his chances of reaching his destination.

"No."

He hissed, shaking his head. The tom disrelished water period. Mainly because of an accident when he was young. Another reason, it just makes him feel uncomfortable, especially when it gets to his skin. So there was only one option left. Back into the depths of the den which was where his paws were taking him. He was lucky enough to have caught her name as he re-entered the now-familiar space.

"Nice to meet you, Adara."He paused in thought as his tail twitched slowly before he continued, "you can call me demon...or keir it doesn't matter." He added shrugging his shoulders. "To be honest I don't really care what anyone calls me. I've been called many names. Rat, bird-brain, worm, scum bag, rotten potato, demon." He sighed with a blank expression shrouding his face, "do I even have a name at this point?" A question he had not intended on saying out loud.

"What did I ever do to deserve those titles huh?" He mumbled.

The only ones who ever called him by his real name keir were his mother and a friend of his. Why did he suggest she call him demon. Believe it or not he kind of liked that name. He would often tell strangers that name supposedly to ward them off by giving them a bad impression. Did it work? Most of the time it did, though some just laughed at him.

"Wait a minute."

Suddenly his eyes became wider and he quickly placed his gaze on Adara, "you didn't hear any of that right?"

Of course she heard everything I said you idiot.

"Ahem sorry for my rant. When you are alone you get used to having no one around and start talking to yourself out loud.. heh heh." At least that was the case with him. He made his way to the spot he was recently snoozing in and settled down, tucking his paws underneath him.

"So tell me, why did you offer me kindness instead of punishment?" There was a hint of nervousness in his voice. He didn't make eye contact with Adara as he ask his question instead his eyes slowly scanned the vicinity of the den making that the second time.

The slender silver dove would dip her skull in greeting and smile gingerly as he returned back into the depths of the burrow and offered a warm greeting in response.

“I think Keir suits you very well, however, if you have a preference toward any of the other names do feel free to correct me,” she stated earnestly, soon slithering her way back down the tunnel system.

“That sounds like a lot to unpack. It seems as though you have been through quite the brunt of it during your travels eh? Surely, I understand what you mean. I tend to do the same rambling aloud to myself considering it is just me, myself, and I here in this forest.” She added claiming a seat nearby and scanning her icy blue eyes once more against the masculine.

“Everyone deserves a little bit of kindness.” She continued “Also, you seemed like good company. Honestly, it has been some time since I have seen another feline in this part of the woods. If you don’t mind me asking, Where are you heading to?”

The she-cat would settle herself down lying atop of her warm underbelly and curling her forepaws in toward her chest. Her gaze would momentarily shift away from the obsidian male only to return and follow his silhouette for a brief second before attempting to meet his eyes.

Listening to her response back he could only sigh. It was the bitter truth. Even though there was no physical damage it sure was mentally harmful. He might even consider himself lucky that things weren't taking to the next level.

"My family didn't like me." He started not sure if she would care to listen or not. He just felt the need to... Rant. "They always told me I was bad luck and that when I was born I brought misfortune upon them. When my mother went missing they blamed me." He paused. His eyes were clouded with memories as he gazed straight past her.

"That's also when everyone broke into a panic because my mother was our leader. Shortly after her disappearance, my father took her place. He tried his best to keep everyone calm but as many months flew by things got worse and worse to the point where no one wanted to listen anymore. So that's when I came in, and no I didn't bother to speak up. My father suggested it was time I do something useful. He gave me a job that everybody was scared to do. Search for our leader, my mother."

Keir purposely left out a few parts of his story only because he felt that it was unnecessary to mention them. He shifted in his spot as his eyes were brought back to the silvery cat. "So here I am and as for where I'm heading to.... We'll I have a clue. Tall structures, lights, noise, and strange creatures. That's where my father told me to look."

Resting calmly the silvery femme's tail tip would flicker as she listened attentively following every word that slipped from the tom’s teeth. After hearing about his family the dove’s neutral facial expression shifted to one of distaste.

“It is truly a shame that is how your family views you. In my eyes you are very heroic, far more than anyone in your family. The decision to search for your mother, even if your father was the one to suggest it, is very brave and shows how much you love your mother compared to your siblings and father. I would hate to compare family dynamics but if it offers you any comfort the way I was raised we were told that any and all life are viewed as blessings and that is regardless of their appearance or capabilities.” She would speak gently offering a softer glance toward the male, her facial expression returning to it’s neutral state.

“It sounds like you are looking for the city. That is about a four days journey from here. If you’d like I can take you there, however, I likely may not join you on your search for your mother as the city is a place I am not particularly fond of only hearing stories about it.” She added, earnestly shifting her gaze from his amber pools to the corner of her den. Her forepaws would writhe beneath her expressing her mild discomfort regarding the city.
