Vah's Starting Character:
we all know I can never stick with one. But here's our starting man.

------------

Kalen Hemera

Age: 23
Gender: Male
Godly Parent: Hermes

Appearance:
Let me tell you. Let me--just hang on for a hot second. This young man stands approximately 6'0" even with the stance that could probably send warning bells ringing in a church. Not only does Kalen have an astounding height, this shifter has the muscle form of the statues of Roman heroes. Rippled, toned, looking like he was likely chiseled from the marble itself. His broad shoulders, his toned chest, the way he holds himself--it all just screams ... well... thick. Like gym bro thick.

His skin is a bit more on the dark side, with a warm tan color. It looks like the warm color of coffee with a slight bit of milk. Or the touching of varnish on fresh wood. It mixes well with his dark brown hair that waves. It falls in soft waves and lightly over his forehead, sometimes into his eyes. Tousled, messy, and on purpose. But the eyes. Oh the eyes. The warning bells are nearly screaming.

Kalen's eyes are a strange color. They almost want to be soft green, maybe blue... but there's just a touch too much uncanny green to them. Of all the colors in the world, it almost seemed to fit the same warm tone, the same comforting color that the rest of him has and instead, threw vibrant and piercing green in those eyes. The eyes are always windows to the soul, to the mind. And boy howdy, it takes a fair amount of looking to really tell what Kalen is thinking. Speaking of which, leads to this young man's "second form."

While his father, likewise, is a "winged" messenger, unfortunately, Kalen's winged gifts were not a helmet, staff or shoes. Rather actual wings that he can shift into. While these wings have no real effect on him other than flight, Kalen tends to avoid using them for whatever strange reason. He tries to hide the wings as long and as best as he can.

Personality:
Kalen is cunning. He just is. He's quick and witty but always thinking ahead. It's a fatal flaw to always be thinking, always be planning and prepared. Always thinking ahead and always planning on how to help his house be the best. By whatever means possible.

He can heal with his words--technically even a little bit himself, but he prefers to fight. He prefers to make things far more "interesting" than they really should be. After all, Kalen is everything. He is confident, he is witty, he is smart, he is always thinking ahead. Everything points to him being cunning and confident in the way he moves. His smile, his grin, the way he holds himself with all the confidence in the world, the way he laughs, seems to just blend in wherever he goes.

But he gets a bit uncertain when he has to actually be responsible. Or is asked about his past. No one quite knows it. Either way, Kalen can be--and surely is--a bit of a bully. But it is far more behind the scenes than one would originally think. Under the masks, Kalen isn't sure who or what to be. Sure, everyone else already knows. But when one can simply hide under a mask that everyone likes? How can he be sure if it's really him?

Kalen won't admit it, he will lash out when someone tries to see what is under the mask. His words are a knife to the soul. Poised, sharp and always at the ready.

Janet Smith
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Godly Parent: Athena

Appearance:
Janet has a slim and wiry figure, and could be described as small. She stands around 5’2 and holds herself with dignity. Her skin is a light tan complexion from being outdoors during the warm weather of summer, making the freckles scattered lightly across her skin stand out. Janet’s hair is a dark blond with natural lighter highlights in it and is a bit longer than shoulder length, although she keeps it pulled most of the time to keep it out of her face. Her eyes are a blue-gray color, sometimes darkening or lightening depending on her mood.

Personality:
Janet is calm and collected, or at least it looks like it. In reality she’s sarcastic and witty, along with knowing a bunch of random things, because her mom passed on the love of learning, not so much of the actual knowledge part- she blames her dad for that. Even though she can be a bit harsh towards people, she does really care and will do her best when someone she cares about needs her. Janet is pretty open about things when asked the right questions by the right people, but an error can cause her to clam up until she deems it safe.

Sorry this took me so long, my cat was being a lovable pest- :')

In all honesty, if he was entirely honest with himself, the last thing he had expected the entire day was a thunderstorm. The morning had been pristine and clear, so warm and bright. It had been a wonderful start to a Saturday. The birds overhead chirped and fluttered about from tree to tree, the cars puttering along the street on main.

The young man sat outside on the table, finishing the last of his meal. It was lunch time, of course it was. Who could say no to the warm day, warm meal, fresh soda and a day to yourself? Not him, that's for sure. Kalen leaned back, sipping idly from the glass as he watched everyone slide on by. He waved, amicably, to others and relished the warmth. Not being stuck in classes was a plus. He was almost done--almost done with school. Granted, he had taken a year to earn some extra funds to go to college but even still. The warm spring day was the precursor to his last semester.

But the clouds rolled in almost without warning. The dark and angry grey clashed together with aggressive flashes of light that burst through the peace of a spring day.

Kalen all but scrambled to head inside, chuckling and shaking his head. Warm spring air mixing with the cool wind from the jet stream? Oh it was a mix for a solid thunderstorm easily.

As he finished his drink inside, Kalen reluctantly began to make his way to the door. He could probably make it home without getting too wet.

Well, to be fair, he didn't get wet. Kalen took three steps outside of the diner and found himself all but struck. The flash of lightning blinded him for a good moment, the sound rattling his bones. But he wasn't... injured. At least he didn't feel injured.

Instead, a face looked down on him that he had hoped not to see in ages.

Zeus.

The god didn't look bad, he didn't look too old either, with pepper grey hair, eyes of dazzling blue mixed with golden streaks, a fair complexion and a rugged jawline. He was almost okay. But mostly not.

"Wonderful to see you here," he thundered, naturally. "I need you and Janet here to help me with something."

It took every single bone in Kalen's body not to respond verbally and simply just nod once.

"The Norse have golden apples that make them immortal," Zeus mused slowly. "Now, we all know who else... lingers over there. We need to help... make sure we can grow some as well. So, you two are tasked with going and getting golden apples for us!"

"They know we're coming?" Kalen finally broke his silence.

Zeus shook his head. "No, they're too proud to ask for help. But ... Apollo is worried. So, go off, hurry!"

The god ushered them back out of the throne room, and into the bustling streets of Los Angeles. Kalen glanced toward the young woman, a touch worried but not entirely confused. It was almost obvious that it wasn't his first rodeo. "... I hope he has somebody to take my finals. If I have to redo everything, I'm going to throw hands."

Janet had been working most of the morning at a small diner, taking orders, serving food, and wiping tables down. So when she got off her shift after the lunch rush she had quickly taken he apron off and collected her things, eager to be outside in the sunshine she had been to busy to truly enjoy earlier. It wasn't that she disliked her job, she really did like it, it paid well enough and her coworkers were kind, but it was the same thing day in, day out and had started to bore her.

As she started her walk home she basked in the warm sunlight, purposely trying to ignore the dark clouds rolling in and just enjoy the moment. Only the moment didn't last long, the storm approaching faster then she thought possible and the low sound of thunder rolling in the sky. Janet shivered slightly as the air became cooler and the sky lit up with lightning, this time she felt the thunder in her bones.

Just as she tried to make a mad dash towards the nearest building that could provide shelter from the rain now pelting down, the thought that this might not be a normal storm crossed her mind and lightning flashed once again. She couldn't see anything other then white for a moment and realized that she had gotten struck by lightning that had drawn her attention to the clouds over head.

She almost groaned in annoyance seeing a face with bright blue eyes with golden flecks and gray hair. Of course it was Zeus, it couldn't be a nice normal day for once, she thought to herself.

Janet only had a few second to consider what he wanted before he spoke and she noticed a young man with dark brown hair that Zeus seemed to be addressing more directly. She listened intently as the king of the gods spoke to the man, tilting her head slightly as questions formed in her mind. But before she could string them together and get her vocal cords to work again, they were dismissed and back on the busy street.

She took a second to collect herself and look at the man as he spoke. She almost laughed at his words as reality settled in, covering it with a small snort.

"Well good luck fighting a god, buddy. I'll come watch after I lose my job." Janet smiled bitterly, pausing before asking; "So, where to now?"

The first thing that Kalen really got to have as a response to his surprise of a new mission was some young woman beside him who commented dryly about how she would love to see him take on a god. Well, that current point in time? He was really debating it. But her question prompted at least a touch of a question in his mind. Where to now? His hands lowered to his sides briefly while he scrambled through his mind.

Finally, he lifted his hands up again, setting them on his hips.

"Well," he finally mused, slowly, glancing over toward the young woman and his new future partner in... godly missions. "If I had to take a guess, the Norse are mostly Scandinavian. Which means Denmark, Sweden... that area. Norway, you get the idea," he waved one hand idly and looked around the puttering streets and cars. "However, I did not come from this place. Uhm," Kalen lifted one hand and rubbed the back of his neck. "To be honest? I lived in Montana, not Los Angeles."

Which, if that was the right course of action, a map was a good start. Also money.

Kalen's brow furrowed for a moment, his hands moving from the sides of his hips towards his pockets. A small burst of shock rippled through his chest, finding the wad of crumpled bills, odd coins and such shoved in his pockets.

His piercing green eyes finally slid over to study this Janet. Well, slid down. She stood a good foot shorter than him, with a thin figure, dirty blond hair, and faded blue eyes.

She could've blended in quite well compared to everyone else. The absolute giant of a fool next to her would stand out in a crowd of anyone.

"... how do you feel about flying?" Kalen finally prompted. "Also, Kalen Hemera," he stuck his hand out for her to shake. "Janet, right?"

Janet nodded slowly in agreement as he answered her question, his logic and thought process checked out. The Norse gods would most likely reside in the northern parts of Europe where their roots were deepest and the culture was strongest. The only problem was that that was a pretty large area to cover and, not to mention, was on a different continent.

“Maybe going to a library first would be a better idea?” Janet suggested, shrugging her shoulders. “I’m not from around here either, but there has to be one around here somewhere and it might give us a better idea of where exactly to go so we don’t spend gods know how long searching a foreign country.”

Janet watched curiously as Kalen took some bills and coins out of a pocket, noticing how he seemed surprised by their presence. Had he forgotten he had money with him or something? She wondered and checked to make sure her small satchel that she had left the dinner with was still there and quickly looked through its contents to see if anything was missing. Luckily everything seemed to be there, which she was grateful for but it would have been nice if there was a clue or something in it as well.

After looping the satchel back over her shoulder she glanced over at her new companion. He was tall and fit, his complexion quite a few shades darker than her own but his eyes drew the most attention. They were a brighter green than anyone else’s she had ever seen before and one would think that they would contrast badly with the rest of him but it just seemed to fit. He definitely wouldn’t pass off as normal but that’s fine, less attention on her which is always nice.

“Yeah, my name is Janet. Nice to meet you Kalen, I mean it would have been nicer if it wasn’t because of a powerful deity, but that’s okay.” Janet sighed, mentally regretting her choice of words and forcing herself to switch the topic. “So wait, flying? Do you mean like a plane?”

She’d never been on a plane and she had no idea how they would get on one, especially since she didn’t have a passport. Needless to say she would definitely be nervous about any type of flight.

A library had not been in the realm of what Kalen had been thinking of. But, now that she had said it, it actually seemed like a fair idea. Finding a map would be easy enough, brushing up on a little bit of Nordic culture and mythology would probably aid a lot in the whole 'we should keep track of things' area.

"Yeah," he said slowly, glancing around. With the fading storm lingering in the distant horizon, the air was fresh and clear. The smell of rain filled the warm breeze as the sun returned to his normal place, heating the world below.

He hadn't noticed the way she had looked back at him, too busy trying to see if he couldn't figure out an approximation of where they were at.

As she returned his greeting, he glanced over and flashed her a brief wane smile. "Eh, at least it wasn't just a deity. But, yeah. I imagine flying on a plane. I'm figuring, since it's Zeus, we'll have safe passageways through the air. Which is going to be far easier to cross the ... entirety--why Los Angeles?" Kalen finally grumbled, pushing one hand through his hair. "Of all places, Los Angeles? He couldn't have dropped us off by New York or something over on the East Coast..."

His hand fell to his side, shaking his head. "Good grief. Anyways, we'll figure that out later. We can, however, snag a greyhound for now... since those tend to go cross country, if that's alright with you."

Kalen hadn't entirely been sure of how much money was in his pocket. It was not his own but it was there.

Kalen had a good point, why were they in Los Angeles? It was further from their destination than where either of them had come from, it just didn’t add up. It was unfamiliar and busy, not a good combination in her opinion, with people walking past to get wherever they’re going and not sparing them a glance.

“Well it’s a quest or something so I’m guessing they couldn’t just make it easy, that would take away from the whole ‘if this doesn’t get done something very bad is going to happen’ feeling.” Jannet mused, pondering the situation for a moment and enjoying the sun's returned warmth. “Stuff like this has never been easy or made much sense though, right? They’re gods, but they can’t tell us where to go or get us there.”

She fiddled with her satchel’s strap, thinking before his question caught her attention.

“Hmm? Yeah, that’s fine with me. I have some cash on me as well if we need it,” Janet offered with a small smile.

(I was in a hurry, sorry it's not longer)
