Tyler Winshear/14/Male/Osprey-Smilodon/Mentions: Open ============================================== He didn't even need the alarm to wake up. Five in the morning, and Tyler had been buzzing with energy two hours before. He'd gotten some sleep in, of course, but there had always been a struggle with insomnia. Tyler just couldn't fall asleep in bed. Even when he was tired, and splayed out on his stomach to give his wings room to breathe. Something always felt a tad bit off for him. Now, he mostly kept himself rested with frequent powernaps. Apparently, that wasn't supposted to fill in for normal sleep? According to his teachers, at least. Meh, it worked for him, so he'd keep doing it. Dropping a hand down over the digital clock, Tyler shut off the mind-rending bleeps just before they could start becoming obnoxious to him, or risk waking up anyone else in the house. That wouldn't be fun, he'd have to explain why he was getting up so early when normally he didn't leave the room until he absolutely had too. Plus, it'd put whoever came to confront him into a bad mood. ~ Tyler rolled himself off the bed, careful not to hurt his wings. While they were certainly durable enough to take the punishment, it wouldn't be fun to start the day with sore shoulders. It'd be bad to start pacing right now, even if he felt like thinking. Tyler had done most of his thinking over the past week, and he'd have the chance to do more when he got to school. That didn't stop the trembling in his arms and legs. He'd be gone soon. No more school, no parents, no foster siblings. Just him and the others, free to do whatever they liked. There was too much energy in his limbs, but he couldn't do anything too noisy, so how to fix that? He could start to pack, that'd be good. Make sure he's got everything out and ready to go. Last Friday. Yeah, his last Friday. A large rucksack was at the foot of his twin mattress, the only really new thing he had in here. It had been recently, uh, liberated from a camping store a month back. Tyler had kept it hidden in the woods, and it still looked mostly new. A little mud here and there, but in perfect condition. When he'd seen it, Tyler knew that it had been perfect for what he needed. Big enough to carry anything he wanted twice over, waterproof, fit him snugly, and came with an aluminum cage-frame. The frame had replacement poles with it, and those he'd used to make a little space between the back panel so his wings could fit comfortably through it. No more having to cut the backs out of bags to make wingspace! Tyler had just gained the power to kill gods. Plus, it was a nice grey-brown-green camouflage. Easier to hide than some of those glaring highlighter colors. Agh, those melted his brain every time he'd seen them. ~ But on to packing! Heavy stuff was supposted to go on the bottom, right? The stuffthat would break other things, but wouldn't get broken in turn. So, what to toss in there? Couple of books on survival, yeah. Making tents out of sticks, fires out of grass, and food out of... acorns and shit. Tough cord, because that's always useful. A roll of copper wire and that clear fishing line cord. Uh, drop in all of those big notebooks he'd shoplifted from that one office supply store when it'd gone out of business last year. The pens and pencils too, of course. Because why have a bunch of paper if you've got nothing to write on it with? Plastic bags were a must. That whacking great hatchet (Ax?) he'd stole from... somewhere. Couldn't quite remember where. The sheathed knife and sharpener he'd lifted from a guy who tried mugging him the last time he was in a big city. Clothes, of course. Just dump 'em all in, there was more than enough room in his bag. The softest blanket he'd been able to keep over the years got folded neatly and then sandwiched inside the most durable. Wallet and remaining cash would go in his pockets when he left, so those he could skip over. Tyler didn't really have much else. ~ That was kind of depressing. Sure, there were rocks and other small similar keepsakes here and there in the room, but everything he actually wanted to keep was not only important to his escape, but barely filled half of his rucksack. Everything was inside the pack, too! It would be less suspicious to have a really big bag rather than one that had an ax strapped to the outside. Then he could look like he was just out for a stay at a friend's house, or travelling. Ooh, that would be a good cover-story if someone asked anything. 'Oh, yeah, me and my friends are spending the week at this camp. Gonna be learning about nature conservation and such.' Perfection. They had this thing down! ~ The mostly-packed rucksack was hidden from sight once more inside the closet in 'his' room. With that out of the way, Tyler could go down, eat something to hold him over 'til school lunch, then walk off to school. But first... A modified backpack was slipped over his shoulders, and he wriggled a little to get his wings as situated as they were going to get inside the restrictive fabric. Tyler ghosted his way down the stairs and quickly yoinked himself a handful of deli meats. That packaged-in-plastic stuff full of preservatives. Wasn't that great, but it was more filling than an apple or some bread. Appetite mostly sated for next couple of hours, Tyler slid his way out the door and onto the streets. The walk to the school was pretty uneventful, since the route he took didn't bring him across any of his friend's, and Tyler reached school grounds. Not late for once! It was the small victories in life. First period wasn't to interesting, just your standard middle-school English. So, dull, uninspired, and ridiculously political. The teacher, Mr. Something-Or-Other, spared him a surprised looked before returning to the papers covering his desk. This one wasn't too bright, and had a habit of procrastinating. Made it real easy to turn in work after it was supposted to be due. He hadn't gotten around to grading an assignment that hadn't been turned in at least a month in advance. Whatever, it helped Tyler, and he wouldn't be dealing with Mr. English ever again, so it was fine. He tapped his fingers against the surface of the desk as he watched other kids filing in one by one. Lunch couldn't come soon enough. He couldn't wait to talk to the whole gang. Sure, he had classes with some of them, but not all at once. And they all needed to be together to really finalize any plans. Well, alright, not really plans. But supplies and resources coordination. Because it'd be stupid of them to bring a bunch of cans and no can openers, right? That kind of planning. ~ Oh, wait, class was starting. Mr. English stood up and turned to face the whiteboard in the front, already starting to write in dry-erase marker and droning on about the psychological depth of poetry. They were going to read a bunch of short piecesby authors none of the class had ever heard of before, but were all important and 'underappreciated geniuses' because Mr. English up front either liked the message he took from it or the writers were somehow politically important. Then they'd be told how to interpret everything, and forced to type up a three-page essay on how three half-sentences changed their perspectives on life and converted them into the ranks of the incredibly woke.

Nicole Blois | F | 17 | harpy/mermaid | M: open The school pool was strictly off limits for Nic. She even fakes a chlorine allergy to get out of swimming during gym. The last thing Nic needs is to grow a tail, and have her wings exposed during school. So, Nic wakes up early every day, while it's still dark, and goes for a swim in a nearby pond. The water calms Nic's nerves, making the rest of the day bearable. Today was the exception. Not even an hour of swimming could calm Nic. There was too much to do. So much was changing, including Nic herself. Nic emerged from the water, using her small gift of water manipulation to dry her clothes without the need to change. Nic slid on her armband that hid one of her more prominent scars, and popped her retainers into place. The retainers hid Nic's unusually pointed teeth, but were rather uncomfortable. The same went for hiding her wings. Nic hid her wings inside of her shirt, using an empty backpack to hide the bulge. Once Nic was dressed for the day, she started home. Nic was required to make her parents breakfast before she left for school, but it was also expected to still be hot. Today, Nic threw together some omelets, and grabbed a blueberry muffin for herself. Nic ate on the way to school, opting to walk instead of waiting for the bus. The bus was full of people, anyways. And who wants to be so close to other people? Nic knew that she wouldn't see any of her friends before lunch, so didn't wait for them. Nic went straight to her first class, one of her favorites, art.

Auburn/F/17/Phoenix Wolf/ Mentions: Nic Auburn had rushed that morning to get to class, since she woke up late like usual. She was glad to have made it to class on time. She pedaled faster, turning a sharp corner, leaving a tire mark on the sidewalk. That's 10! She arrived at the school, locking her bike with all the other ones. She ran inside the school, jogging to her first class. Stopping at her locker, she unloaded some of her things so her backpack wouldn't weigh her down and hurt her wings which she kept tucked in her shirt. Barreling down the hallway, she stopped in front of the art classroom, panting. She straightened up after a bit, and walked inside the classroom. She saw Nic sitting at their usual table. Taking the empty seat next to her, she set down her backpack with a thud and turned towards Nic. "So, have you developed your escape plan?"

Leyla Vaugn/18/Female/Human/Mentions: Auburn, Nic, Open ================================================ It takes a considerable amount of her self-control (She does have some, dad, shut up!) to not turn to watch as Auburn Freehills slammed into a seat next to Nicole 'Nic' Blois. As it is, Leyla only flicks her eyes over to watch the two interact. There was something off with them. Well, them and a bunch of others in the school, but she had more opportunity to watch these two specifically. They were being... quieter today. Something was afoot. The sketchbook sitting innocently on top of Leyla's desk began to be filled with odd wavy squiggles and sharp lines, looking like some nonsense patterning one might find on the edges of clothing. But nay! Rather, those 'meaningless squiggles' were none other than code. One she had developed on her own, a secret language to hide all of her notes. While Leyla was highly suspicious of pretty much everyone she'd ever met, that didn't mean she was willing to share the things she found out about people she observed. Well, unless it was wrong. Then she'd shout it to the world, but until she knew what was going on, everything would remain encoded. ~ There hadn't been an abundance of evidence in that particular group's case, which she had dubbed 'Project Re-Anima' based on what she'd collected so far. Leyla knew that there was something off about them. Nic never, never, let water touch her skin unless she was drinking it. Auburn never sat back into a seat, ever, and sometimes Leyla had seen her shirt move in ways it should not. Oh, they were subtle, but something was up with them. Leyla didn't delude herself into thinking the six she suspected were the only ones. It was entirely possible that there were others like them in the school and out in the world, but she just hadn't collected enough evidence yet. Soon, though. Soon.

Aeron Dearil || 17 || Liche || Mentions: Open It was cold; well colder than usual. This morning was beyond the usual chill in his bones, no... He could feel it within his soul. A mental swell sent sparks in his mind, Winter is coming afterall. He cursed internally. He was never a fan of the cold, even if he thrived in the cold. Spring was his preference, when life began to blossom. The park he was in was vacant, the early morning bustle finally winding down as folks headed towards there daily jobs and the youth went to their schools. Still, here he was upon the wooden bench, his pale milky eyes observed the world around him lazily as he sipped on his chai tea. The spices helped calm him overactive mind... Helped him focus. He wasn't here to pay a social call by any means, no this was a business matter. His silvery gray hair blew lightly in the wind, and he frowned as if receiving ill news; like he'd tasted something bitter and he'd rather spit it out. His lazy eyes gained focus as they saw a man walking towards him. This particular man seemed rather plain. His suit might raise a brow but that wasn't of concern to the young man. He knew he looked homeless, and yet none seemed to ponder a seventeen year old living upon the streets rather than at school. Mortals always did ignore the strange and unusual. No, the odd thing about the man was his throat... A large rather bloody gash ran through it, which would frighten those of the faint of heart. The squeamish would rather flee from the sight... Still the ragged young man welcomed the brutalized man like an old friend, and offered him a spot besides him. "So who is it?", the young man asked. 'T-thaaaat... o-one...', the man responded, his voice a strangled whisper. His ringed index finger pointing towards a well dress man across the street within a coffee shop. "Are you certain? I can't just be doing things like this. What your asking of me is a big deal", the silvery blonde replied. 'I... haaaaaave never... been more suuuuuure... Pleaaaaase'. Was the only response before the man seemed to freeze and fold into himself for a moment as if reliving a rather painful memory. It struck the younger man's cold heart, before he nodded in silent agreement. "His name?". 'Thomas... Laaaaassiter'. "... Thy will be done. You can rest easy sir". The suited man didn't speak in return, only smiled lightly before his form shimmered. He stood up before taking nine steps and seeming to disappear into nothing. Strange. Aeron Dearil wasn't a stranger to oddities though. Thus was the life of a seventeen year old... Mutation? Aeron wasn't sure, all he knew for sure was that death seemed to follow him, metaphorically and physically. He sighed, before wiping his hands upon his jeans as he finished his morning tea. "Thomas Lassiter, huh?", he murmured. He'd be lucky if he survived the night. His crimes truly did follow him to the grave. Edited at September 8, 2021 05:40 AM by House of the Dragon

Kimberly Whiteheart::14::Alaskan Malamute::Mentions: Tyler, open . To help students start teacher wrote a few of his favorite quotes like; “Don’t worry about the world coming to an end today. It’s already tomorrow in Australia” or “I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific” Just like My.English wanted the class got to the work. But they didn’t seem to be excited at the idea of describing their thoughts about "underestimated by the manipulated society gems". Some of the children were groaning, gnashing their teeth and whining quietly, others seemed completely neutral to their task. Even a single person from the back bench, hidden behind a friend's back, decided that it was the perfect time for a small nap. Also, there was a student who was filling the sheets of paper intensively. Kimberly White was doing something eagerly in her orange notebook. However this exercise book wasn’t intended for English and was appearing on girls desk every lesson. Many sketches and drawings could be found in it. Kim wasn’t very talented. Her scribbles usually didn’t even resemble what their author wanted to show. But this fact wasn’t bothering her at all and she was still drawing for fun and to relax. Her favorite drawing technique was the so-called "the triangles". In general, it started to be drawn from a large circle to a whole page. Then Kim was drawing long straight lines. They were intersecting both the circle and each other, thereby forming many triangles in the center of the work. If the chaos was not too noisy, the girl would draw smaller lines filling the empty spaces in the circle. The last step was to color everything. Contrary to appearances, it was the hardest part. Only four colors could be used at the same time. Each triangle had to be colored. There couldn’t be any adjacent figures of the same color. It took a lot of time, planning and attention. But the final effect was worth it. Auburn hair girl looked proudly at her new creation. Today’s the red-gold mosaic looked quite impressive for her. Looking for a more down-to-earth opinion, Kim nudged Tyler slightly, who was sitting in the next column next to her and turned the notebook with the drawing to show him.

Tyler Winshear/14/Male/Osprey-Smilodon/Mentions: Kimberly ============================================== He'd been down for sleeping through the period, but he was too racheted up to manage it. Escape plans and all that. But he was distracted from his oncoming boredom by the girl sitting next to him today. Kimberly, he thinks? She's tapping his shoulder and showing a sketchbook page. It's a mess of straight lines inside a circle, each block colored in with one of four colors. It looked kind of like those stained glass windows you'd see in old churches, except this one was both not a window and hadn't been designed in biblical likeness. She wasn't someone he'd really ever interacted with too much, but it was an escape from the pointless excercise the teacher wanted them to do. "S'pos'ta be glass?" Because Kimberly had something of a reputation for average and bad artwork, and it was always good to clarify. "Looks like'a window." It was all in warm reds, yellows, and oranges, and didn't look like she'd tried to make anything in particular beyond geometric shapes. Well, everyone had to start somewhere, and figuring out how to draw shapes right was supposed to be the backbone of all art, right? Well, the drawing kind. Not ceramics or something like that. ~ The teacher was going off about positivity and optimisim in the face of the struggles in the world. At least half the class was not even pretending to pay attention, and of those who seemed like they were taking notes or doing work only about a third of them weren't actually doing something else. It was a widely-accepted consensus among the school that this particular English class was pretty much a free period. The teacher never turned around, rarely asking for student participation. Even then, Tyler was pretty sure the guy was partially deaf and blind for him not to call out all the students taking naps or playing with their phones. Or he just didn't care. That was also a pretty big possibility,

Nicole Blois | F | 17 | harpy/mermaid | M: Auburn, Leyla Auburn barreled into class just barely on time. Why she insisted on cutting it so close to the bell, Nic would never understand. 'So, have you developed your escape plan?' Nic wasn't shocked by how blunt Auburn was, but sometimes it wasn't the most convenient. Nic leaned closer to Auburn, so no one would overhear. "I don't need a plan, it's not like my parents would care." At that moment, Nic felt a gaze settle on her back. Nic thought she could feel the gaze burn through her clothes exposing her wings. Nic glanced behind her, feigning looking for a pencil. While turned, Nic saw that Leyla was watching Auburn and herself. Nic turned back towards the front of the classroom, where the teacher had begun a lesson on multi-media editing. "Auburn, don't look now, but that girl, Leyla, is watching us."

Auburn|17|F|Eagle/Wolf|Mentions: Nic, Leyla ~*~ "Oh shit, really?" Auburn quickly froze her wings, and ran a finger through her hair to make sure her ears were properly hidden. Turning towards the front, she whispered to Nic. "Geez, that Leyla girl is pretty weird for a human, am I right?" Auburn opened her laptop and clicked onto the editting platform, opening a piece she had been working on for quite some time now. It was a wolf and an eagle playing in the woods, exchanging flowers. She was proud of it. She remembered the hours of work she put into it. The sweat, the tears- the teacher pointed out a kid for playing on his phone. Ha, dumbass.
