Hihi! :] Some of you may remember a poll I ran a few months regarding some cute dog-looking stingrays. Well, I'm cautiously taking things to step two, and that's beta testing!

This thread is for general conversation and development for the species before I do an official launch of them. So, what does beta testing involve?

Beta testing for this species will include trialling interactive elements, such as the draw-to-explore and write-to-explore features, interacting with NPCs, using items and all that kinda stuff as they are developed. It involves giving feedback and testing various features as I add them and also contributing ideas towards the species. This will all take part here on WolfPlay, though your stingray dog will be added to the Stingray Dog Toyhou.se world.

All beta testers will get a stingray dog for free, and they'll get a fancy 'beta tester'/'founder' badge.

Hello, I've been in an ARPG before, so I'm familiar with the idea and concept. I have a few close species myself.

Considering you are also running a dawg hybrid species right now I think this would work well :] Amazing amazing, welcome to the beta tester team B)

I am interested in becoming a beta tester.

I do have a small amount of experience from a species a few years ago on a different gaming platform.

I do art, and I am BIG on pixel art as well and would be happy to contribute to creating things. I also just love sharks/stingrays so I am already freaking out about this.

I am very patient and have my own life outside of the game as well so I respect that for others. I do have a TH account and have recently become active again.

I have YCH forms active for you to look at regarding my pixel work and my DA for other work (though outdated by like 5 years on the non-pixel work) -- Happy to whip something up if you want to see my non-pixel work currently.

I'm not really looking for help with the art/species dev specifically, just with the testing/interactive elements but some feedback on items/art might be helpful as well! :D

So, we're going to have different subspecies that excel in different terrains, so you guys can pick from a pelagic, reef or intertidal stingray dog to start with. The other subspecies will come later.

Just let me know what you'd like to pick and some colours/markings you'd like in a design so I can create a stingray dog for you.
As for the 'scientific' name for the species as Ray dogs/stingray pups isn't very original, we're going with Myliolupus, derived from Myliobatoidei and lupus, the latin words for stingray and well.. Wolf. For ease you're welcome to call 'em ray pups/stingray dogs/anything else honestly.

Pelagic Myliolupus are true open-ocean dwellers. They can range in size from tiny, shoaling rays to huge whale-esque rays. Typically they are counter-shaded, with a light underside and dark topside to stay camouflaged in the open sea. They come in a variety of colours but not as many as their reef and tidal counterparts. Most pelagic ray dogs are active hunters who feast on other fish. Some are filter feeders, though.

Reef Myliolupus are quick, colourful and equally diverse. Typically smaller in size, they can range from to herbivorous to somewhere in the middle. They are vulnerable in the open ocean, so stick to their shallow reef homes. They have a keen eye for finding things and are more nimble than both pelagic and intertidal ray dogs.

Intertidal Myliolupus straddle the two realms of land and sea. They can spend extended amounts of times out of water and are often found exploring tidal pools, beaches and sometimes further in-land.

So basically pick very ocean, ocean but less, and land-ocean LMAO.

Also as promised, here's a badge for you guys if you like those kinds of things, your Myliolupus will also have a 'founder' stamp on their reference image upon creation <3

You already have two ray dogs, so you're good for now LMAO. Your raydogs are hadal and pelagic. As I'm not going develop the hadal zone for a hot second, we'll consider uhh Miso pelagic for now, though they're closer to hadal.

I would like to start with a Reef Myliolupus!

I just love the land and water flexibility with said species.

Color wise, I'd love to see black, greys and pastel blue! I like simple designs, not big on stripes or spots unless it's piebald / light freckles or patches. :D

Just want to note, the little stingray's for the color palette are absolutely adorable! Not me over here already wanting to draw stuff up for the character I don't have yet. :p
