"You ready to go?" Lilith asks, her hair swishing in the wind.
She was standing in the doorway, the forest wind blowing through her jet-black hair.
"Yeah," Spitfire replies coolly, not caring that Lilith was in a crop top hoodie and cutoff shorts with fishnet stockings underneath. Freefall was red in the face, trying not to look at Lilith, but failing. Spitfire glances at Freefall, "What's your deal? Not cold enough for you?" They were at the top of Mount Galictair, (Gal-lick-tear) the coldest mountain in the region. The mountain boasted over 25,000 feet of snow and trees. The only way up was an old tram, rusted from the ice and snow. It was a skier's palooza there, always snowy and ready to be torn apart. Spitfire was prepared and booked them a cabin, which was near the top, also known for being the coldest part of the mountain, and packed warm clothes. He was currently wearing a black hoodie, a puffy vest and pajama pants.
Freefall, the one with the worst circulation, wore a t-shirt, hoodie, flannel, puffy jacket, and another hoodie.
Freefall ran a hand through his reddish-brown hair and sighed, "No, It's plenty enough cold."
Lilith rolled her eyes and walked out of the cabin into the cold mountain air. The two boys followed her. They walk in silence for a few hours. The crunch of their feet landing in freshly fallen snow and their shallow breaths were all that could be heard until Freefall broke the silence, "So. When's lunch?" Lilith lets out a hiss, air running through the gaps of her teeth, "Not now."
Spitfire, being the most fit, wasn't struggling for breath. He calmly responded to Freefall, "If you're hungry, go eat a plant. There are still some growing." Spitfire glances back at Freefall, "Down at the bottom of this mountain, that is."
"Ha-ha. Very funny Fyro." Freefall says, challenging Spitfire.
In one fluid movement, Freefall was swept off his feet, finding himself lying on his back, Spitfire poised to kill above him. Spitfire held his knife steady in his hand, pressed against Freefall's neck.
"Don't call me that. Ever." Spitfire says, retracting the knife.
Freefall gulps, his Addam apple bobbing. "Y-yes..."
"Yes, what?" Spitfire growls.
"Yes, sir..." Freefall says, avoiding eye contact with Spitfire. Spitfire gets up and walks away, headed up the hill. Lilith hisses at Spitfire and spits on his boot, then helps him up.
Further up the mountain, both Freefall and Lilith hear Spitfire roar with fury. "Brother, what's wrong?" Lilith says, full of concern. "We're lost. I check my phone, and no cell service either."
"Damn." Lilith lets out a breath. "We zig-zagged all over because you saw something, Freefall. Lead us back!"
Freefall growls, "No! You were following Spitfire, and I was following you!"
The two bickered until Spitfire intervened, "It's getting dark. We brought nothing."
Both Freefall and Lilith turned to him in sync. "What? Brother-?" Lilith choked out. "How?!"
"Freefall didn't bring the backpack."
"I-I... I didn't. I'm sorry." Freefall fidgets with his hoodie string.
"How are we going to survive tonight then? There are bears, mountain lions, wolves..." Lilith says, glancing around their surroundings int he dying light of the day sun.
"I don't know, sis, I don't know..."
