Eleni Matilda Arton
16 - Female - Asexual - The Spitfire
Appearance
Eleni has wavy brown hair with blonde streaks that reaches her shoulders. Her face is round and settled into a natural and unintentional annoyed expression. Her lips are thin and her hooded eyes are electric blue. In summer, her olive skin darkens further.
She stands at a height of 5'6" and her build is muscled and broad shouldered. The clothing she wears is tunics and breeches, although she will occasionally wear gowns during formal events.
Personality
Eleni is brusque, and as stubborn as a mule. When her parents were told their daughter would be slow to walk and talk as a child, Eleni became twice as determined to catch up to as much of a 'normal' skillset as she could (mainly by copying Toby). When they insisted she be a proper princess and acquire suitable interests as she grew older, she refused and slept in the stable hayloft for several nights. Now, she has gained quite the reputation for being a wild child. Buried deep is a part of her that wants any love and affection her parents throw her way, but she feels that only happens when they finally notice her mischievous and reckless behaviour. Although she isn't as much of a drama queen as Eugene is, Eleni strays rather close to it at times.
She can come across as tempestuous and unpredictable - but surprisingly, is not quite as fiery-tempered as some of her Arton ancestors. There is also a side of her that enjoys diplomacy and decision-making. She can multitask, but only up to a point before she becomes burnt out.
The face she shows to the royal court and nobles is that of an extremely vibrant, talkative, and enthusiastic nature. In reality, she only acts like this when she is ordered to show up to events her parents refuse to let her miss. Outside of these occurrences, she is quiet and observant. Furthermore, she doesn't talk much, preferring to let others take charge of the conversation. It's partly innate, and partly because she worries she'll be ridiculed for not being able to speak as well as her siblings because that ability happened to arrive later for her than most children.
Strengths
Her skills in archery and equestrian sports of all kinds are passions she's honed since she was old enough to learn them. She's also picked up how to handle and wield daggers and other knives.
She can find and remember even the smallest loopholes in people's words, if she can be bothered to. If they don't make what they say clear as a bell, well, it's not her fault if she takes things in a completely different direction than what they mean, is it?
She picks up on details others are likely to miss: the subtle shifts in posture and expression, things overheard in conversation that she can mention to win someone's favour, etc.
Her loyalty to her kingdom is strong, as is her faith in her brother to be a peaceful king when his time comes to rule. Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Weaknesses
As Eleni has 'inherited' the (in)famous intensity of her family, she is swift to retaliate if she perceives an insult towards her and her siblings. Unfortunately, this can backfire, and has in the past, rather dramatically a few times.
Anything that even remotely ties into her interests means she focuses on those things rather than any manners or etiquette befitting the spare heir to the Arton throne.
She heavily dislikes being told not to do or say something. Even if it puts her in grave danger, she will do it if given the slightest leeway.
She can't sit in a chair or stand still for too long as her legs become stiff rather quickly. This, alongside her ability to sit in W shape and having little feeling in her fingertips, is very similar to cerebral palsy. She also tires (not that she'll freely admit it) and involuntarily startles easily. This irritating and embarrassing reflex is something Eugene takes into account when he plays pranks on her.
Relationships with her siblings
Tobias
She gets along the best with her older brother, and calls him Toby. He doesn't mind her mischievous side as much as their parents do. In fact, he (mostly) goes with whatever she has to and/or plans to do. It is something that has only increased her more reckless ideas over the years - as long as neither he nor Aiyana are put in danger. However, as of late, she refuses to involve him in this hobby of hers.
Aiyana
The two girls get along; perhaps not to the extent Eleni and Toby do, but their bond is somewhat close. As the older sister, Eleni tries to support Aiyana as much as she can, and feels guilty when she can't.
Eugene
Eleni and Eugene don't get along, to say the least. Even being in the same room together will have the siblings arguing heatedly within minutes and trying to win a battle over the other with the last word.
Reputation/Rumours about said character
There are a few rumours surrounding Eleni, the first and major one being that she plots to take over her brother's position as heir, and bring ruin to the kingdom when she succeeds, like an evil queen. Which, no thank you, but it's oddly persistent?
She once cursed a noble to die after his dull prattling became too much for her. This one is probably exaggerated, but there might be a bit of truth to it.
There is speculation that she can hold her breath underwater for nine days and nights. It's one of the more ridiculous ones, and she enjoys hearing it.
About the character
Known for her temper and interest in equestrian sports, archery, and knives, Eleni isn't exactly the princess one would expect. She's not afraid to get dirty or use plenty of language unbefitting of a princess. Very much a wild child in all aspects, she seems to be rebelling from all that she has been taught.
