Name
Dr. Mason Graham Harvey
Age
Mid-thirties
Gender
Male
Place of Birth:
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Appearance
Harvey is a tall, looming figure standing just a touch over six feet tall. He has brown hair which is typically meticulously well-combed, but his irritatingly perfectionistic view of how he should appear causes him to obsess over the few pieces of hair that occasionally stick out of place. Despite the amount of care he puts into his appearance, many would say he looks more attractive when he's exhausted to the point of allowing his hair to be messy and unkempt, allowing a more boyish aura to possess him.
--
Due to his workaholic nature, there is rarely a time when Harvey is seen outside of hospital clothing. On the rare occasion that he is, Harvey is able to show off a collection of high-quality, expensive suits and other formalwear. He doesn't own much in terms of casual clothing since he is typically either working in the hospital, traveling, or presenting information at various seminars and work-related events. He has expensive taste in clothing, seeing as his presentation is everything to him. He is most often seen in a brooding state, and his ever-serious features have seldom been softened into a smile. He has hazel eyes which are typically glaring at someone or displaying the same skepticism as his flat tone and even expression. Despite this, many individuals find Dr. Harvey to be rather handsome, if it weren't for his unbreakable icy exterior.
Personality Metrics

Personality Description
'Unrelenting standards' isn't a phrase strong enough to describe the 'goals' Dr. Harvey sets for himself and his staff. On one hand, his zero tolerance policy and unrelenting drive can be interpreted as inspiring and a significant catalyst toward groundbreaking change in the field of medicine. On the other hand, working for Harvey or being around him is not for the faint of heart. On a personal level, he is extremely ambitious, competitive, and dedicated to his performance, his image, and the legacy he has worked so hard to prolong. He has little interest in social activities, and his personal nearsightedness has deprived him of the opportunity and desire to fall in love or raise a family. While he would love to produce an heir to the monopoly he has worked so hard to build up, his own (lack of) experiences in a family have thoroughly numbed him to the ideas of love, nurturance, and acceptance. While he has a close group of one or two colleagues that he trusts with his life, it would take a very special and stubborn person to break through the layers of walls that Harvey has put up around himself as protection.

Background
Harvey was separated from his mother at a young age though his father never really gave a straight answer on what happened to her. He just has one photo of the two of them when he was very young, and he cherishes it. His father trained him to take over his legacy from the time he was in diapers, and he lived to gain his father's approval for most of his life until his father's suicide in his mid-thirties. Harvey was in medical school at the time, and he hasn't let anyone in since. He's never focused on connections outside of a few favored doctors. He frequently uses job performance as a way to size people up, and lives a rather lonely life.

Madeleine Orlaith Delevingne

Madeleine is derived from the French form of Magdalene, meaning “from Magdala” or “tower.” It symbolizes strength, resilience, and a sense of steadfastness in the face of adversity. Orlaith, of Irish origin, means “golden princess” or “golden lady,” representing nobility, purity, and a regal elegance. Delevingne is of French origin, derived from the Old French word “de l’Évêché”, meaning “from the bishopric” or “from the diocese,” suggesting a connection to a religious or ecclesiastical authority in medieval times.

Appearance

Madeleine Orlaith’s appearance is defined by a blend of femininity and strength, shaped by years of physical demands and a life spent in a profession that requires both grace and endurance. At 5’1”, she is petite but her stature is deceptive, as she moves with a quiet but undeniable presence that commands attention. Her hips, full and curvaceous, create a natural hourglass figure, which is further accentuated by her slender waist and relatively narrow shoulders. This contrast in proportions gives her a graceful silhouette, yet her body has been honed by the rigors of her demanding profession.

Her muscles, lean and defined, are the result of years of physical activity—long shifts on her feet, moving quickly through hospital corridors, lifting medical equipment and supplies, and tending to patients in critical conditions. Though her build is slender, every muscle speaks of endurance rather than brute strength. Her legs, long and toned, are a testament to the constant motion required in her line of work. These legs carry her quickly through the hospital, her movements fluid and efficient, almost gliding when she walks. Her legs, combined with her well-trained balance and coordination, allow her to maneuver through tight spaces with ease and speed. The tone in her legs is particularly noticeable when she wears her standard hospital scrubs, which fit snugly around her thighs, giving her a sense of understated athleticism even in the sterile environment of the hospital.

Madeleine’s skin, golden tan, reflects years spent in both the hospital’s bright fluorescent lighting and the natural light from the world outside. Her complexion is clear, though the long hours in the hospital—often under artificial light—have given it a faint pallor in certain spots, particularly under her eyes, a visible sign of exhaustion. Her skin has a warm, sun-kissed quality to it, a result of past summers where she worked long hours outdoors as part of her medical outreach work. Light freckles dot her face, shoulders, and arms, creating small constellations of pigment scattered across her skin. These freckles, soft and faint, highlight her fair features and soften the more severe aspects of her profession, lending her an almost youthful, innocent look in contrast to her often serious expressions.

Her face is heart-shaped, with high, prominent cheekbones that give her a regal appearance even when she’s working in the chaos of the emergency room. Her jawline is gently rounded, softening her face’s structure, which, when paired with her button nose, gives her a somewhat youthful appearance. Her eyebrows are soft but well-shaped, arched slightly over her wide-set, long lashes. Her eyes, the most striking feature of her face, are an unusual combination of ocean blue with pale green rings around the pupils, the result of central heterochromia. Her gaze can be mesmerizing, pulling people in as her eyes seem to shift between two different hues depending on the lighting. These eyes, framed by her lashes, have a sharpness to them, revealing intelligence and attentiveness. Her gaze is direct and focused, whether she’s consulting with a colleague or checking on a patient, reflecting the constant awareness required of someone in her position.

Her lips, full and naturally rosy, often rest in a neutral line, the softness of the curve reflecting a gentleness that is contrasted by the severity of the situations she regularly faces. When she speaks, her lips move with precision, and when she smiles, it’s subtle but brightens her face in a way that can be unexpected. Her teeth, white and evenly spaced, can be seen more frequently when she’s trying to lighten the mood in a stressful situation or offering a reassuring smile to a frightened patient. Her hair, a mass of baby blonde curls, cascades down to her waist, soft and voluminous. These curls, despite their natural beauty, often end up tied back into a bun or ponytail during her shifts, as practicality takes precedence in her line of work. When her hair is loose, it falls in waves, shimmering in the light, its golden strands catching the hospital’s overhead lights in an ethereal glow. On days off or when not in the hospital, she allows her curls to fall freely, softening her otherwise professional and focused demeanor.

Her body is marked by the trials of her medical career. A prominent scar runs diagonally across her left collarbone, a deep reminder of a violent encounter during one of her early nights in the hospital. It was the result of an attack by a desperate family member of a patient, and the scar stands as a constant reminder of the dangers that can lurk in the hospital’s halls. Another scar runs down her spine, a result of a fall she sustained during a rescue operation in her early residency. She had been sent to help at a collapsed building, where she was attempting to save a patient when debris shifted and caused a pole to slice open her back. The injury, while not life-threatening , required immediate attention, and though it healed over time, it left her with a long scar along her spine. These scars, while indicative of her dangerous profession, do not detract from her physical beauty—they instead become a testament to her ability to endure, survive, and continue on despite the obstacles she faces.

She bears a birthmark, located just above her right hip-bone, shaped almost like a cross. This small, circular mark is something that she keeps hidden beneath her clothes, a private detail of her body that she rarely speaks of. To her, the birthmark feels symbolic, a reminder of the fine line between life and death, something she constantly deals with as a doctor. It is a mark she has carried since birth, and she has always felt that it holds a deeper meaning, though she rarely discusses its significance.

Despite her scars and the physical demands of her job, Madeleine’s body retains a quiet sensuality. Her hips, wide and feminine, lend her a sense of natural grace in her movements, even when dressed in the typically unflattering hospital scrubs. Her waist, small and slender, contrasts with the fullness of her hips and the curve of her thighs, which are lean and strong from years of movement. The curvature of her body, though practical for her work, also gives her an understated femininity that is often unnoticed due to her professional demeanor.

Her appearance is a reflection of her demanding career in the medical field, a balance between physical endurance and elegance, strength and grace. Her features, from her golden tan and freckles to her mesmerizing eyes and long curls, offer glimpses of both vulnerability and resilience, telling the story of a woman who endures the pressures of her profession while retaining a quiet, unassuming beauty.

Attire

Madeleine’s work attire reflects a perfect blend of professionalism and subtle elegance. She wears sky-blue scrubs, which are both practical and comforting in the bustling, high-stress hospital environment. The soft color of the fabric is easy on the eyes and gives off a calm, approachable vibe, which suits her personality and helps to put patients at ease. Her white tennis shoes, simple yet functional, are chosen for comfort and support, ensuring she can move quickly and easily throughout her long shifts. For a touch of understated sophistication, Madeleine always wears a pair of delicate pearl earrings that glisten softly, adding a hint of refinement to her otherwise clinical look. A matching pearl necklace, understated and elegant, rests at the base of her neck, providing a gentle contrast to the scrubs without being too flashy. Her nails are always kept short and neatly groomed, their natural look enhancing the professional impression she strives to maintain. Madeleine’s hairstyle changes daily, reflecting her ever-evolving mood, from sleek buns to soft waves, but it’s always immaculately done. Her makeup is minimal but carefully applied, with a few strokes of mascara, defined eyebrows, a light gloss on her lips, and a swipe of liquid blush that adds a natural, healthy glow to her complexion. Every detail, from her choice of accessories to her makeup routine, is thoughtfully curated to balance style with functionality in her demanding workplace.

Personality

Madeleine’s personality is marked by a vibrant optimism that sets her apart in the high-pressure environment of the hospital. Her natural ease with people, combined with her outgoing and energetic nature, allows her to thrive in a setting where many would feel overwhelmed. She radiates warmth and positivity, effortlessly engaging with those around her, from the most senior doctors to the newest patients. Whether she’s in the middle of a tense medical emergency or conducting a complex diagnostic meeting, Madeleine’s upbeat attitude and ability to connect with others help to lighten even the most stressful situations. Her ability to remain calm under pressure is complemented by her bright personality, making her a source of comfort to her patients and a reliable colleague to her peers.

Her empathy is the core of who she is as a doctor. Madeleine never simply sees patients as cases to be solved but as people with unique stories. She’s the kind of doctor who sits at the bedside, learning about their lives, families, and fears. Her natural inclination is to treat them holistically, not just addressing their physical ailments but also recognizing the emotional and psychological toll of their illnesses. She believes in the power of human connection and the healing that comes from genuine empathy, often pausing in the midst of rounds to offer a few kind words, a reassuring smile, or even a joke to ease a patient’s anxiety. Her interactions extend far beyond the clinical; she makes it a point to check in on how they’re feeling emotionally, often returning to rooms after her shift to see how they’re holding up.

Unlike some of her more reserved or detached colleagues, Madeleine thrives on building personal connections. Her ability to bridge the gap between doctor and patient with her approachable demeanor has earned her respect in the hospital. Patients request her by name, drawn to her lighthearted and compassionate approach, and families often express gratitude not just for her medical skills but for the emotional support she provides during the most difficult moments of their lives. To Madeleine, medicine is as much about human connection as it is about science. This mindset doesn’t just make her well-liked; it also fuels her success, as patients are often more responsive to treatment when they feel truly cared for.

Madeleine’s outgoing nature extends to her interactions with her colleagues as well. While the hospital can be a competitive environment, especially with Dr. Mason Harvey’s competition looming, Madeleine never lets it devolve into cutthroat rivalry. She believes in teamwork and collaboration, often acting as a mediator when tensions arise during rounds or meetings. She’s not afraid to voice her ideas or challenge a diagnosis, but she does so with respect, knowing that medicine is a collective effort. In her view, they are all working toward the same goal—saving lives and improving patient care. This approachability and willingness to work alongside others make her a key player in any team, and her enthusiasm for learning from her peers, rather than seeing them as competition, has garnered her a strong support system within the hospital.

Though driven by ambition, Madeleine doesn’t let it cloud her interactions with others. In fact, her focus on the competition is grounded more in her desire to help uncover the mystery of Dr. Harvey’s illness and prove her capability rather than in personal glory. She approaches it with a sense of camaraderie, viewing her fellow residents not as rivals but as colleagues who all have something valuable to contribute. Her optimism means she doesn’t believe success is a zero-sum game; she’s convinced that they can all learn from each other, and she is always the first to offer encouragement to someone who might be struggling.

Madeleine’s flirtatiousness, which once served as a shield, has become more of a natural extension of her extroverted personality. In social interactions, she uses her playful charm to lighten the mood and build rapport. Whether teasing a colleague to break the tension or bantering with patients to make them feel at ease, her charisma has become an invaluable tool in disarming people in high-stress situations. Her wit and humor allow her to break down barriers, especially with patients who are frightened or uncertain. Rather than using her flirtation as a wall, it has become a way for her to create moments of lighthearted connection in an often serious environment.

However, beneath her vibrant exterior, Madeleine still grapples with the emotional toll of her profession. The weight of her responsibilities, the constant pressure to succeed, and the fear of failure never completely fade. Though she’s outgoing and optimistic, she still feels the heavy burden of her work, particularly when it comes to the lives in her care. Her empathy means that each loss cuts deep, and while she may put on a brave face, she carries the emotional strain of her job quietly. Madeleine’s biggest struggle is balancing her drive to heal with the understanding that she can’t always save everyone, and this internal battle often plays out in her most vulnerable moments.

Yet, even with this weight, Madeleine finds solace in her extroverted nature. She thrives by staying engaged with the people around her, finding comfort in the connections she builds with her patients and colleagues. Her openness, both emotionally and socially, allows her to process the challenges of her work more easily. While she still fears loss and failure, she uses her relationships as a way to stay grounded, knowing that she’s not in this fight alone. She surrounds herself with a strong support network, and in return, she offers that same unwavering support to those around her.

In many ways, Madeleine’s personality is her greatest asset in navigating the complex world of medicine. Her outgoing nature, empathy, and ability to connect with others set her apart, not just as a skilled doctor but as someone who brings warmth and humanity to a profession that often demands detachment. It’s her belief in people, both patients and colleagues, that drives her to keep pushing forward, no matter how difficult the road ahead may be.

Temperament

Madeleine’s temperament is defined by her steady optimism and resilience, which ground her in even the most stressful situations. She has a naturally sunny disposition, approaching challenges with a can-do attitude that lifts the spirits of those around her. This doesn’t mean she’s immune to frustration or setbacks, but her emotional balance allows her to recover quickly, finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Her energy is infectious, and she radiates a sense of calm and control that reassures both patients and colleagues. Even when faced with high-pressure scenarios, Madeleine maintains her composure, knowing that her presence can set the tone for those around her. Her warmth makes her approachable, and her patience with both people and circumstances helps her navigate difficult conversations and medical crises with grace.

Enneagram Type

Madeleine’s personality aligns closely with the Enneagram Type 2, often called “The Helper.” At her core, she is deeply empathetic, compassionate, and driven by a need to support and care for others. She finds fulfillment in being needed, whether by patients, colleagues, or friends, and derives immense satisfaction from making a tangible difference in people’s lives. As a Type 2, Madeleine is naturally generous and selfless, often putting others’ needs ahead of her own, sometimes to the point of neglecting her own well-being. Her nurturing nature makes her an approachable figure in the hospital, and she takes genuine pleasure in the connections she forms, thriving on the gratitude and warmth of those she helps. However, she can sometimes struggle with setting boundaries, as she fears being seen as unworthy or unappreciated if she doesn’t give her all. While she loves helping others, Madeleine is learning to balance her giving nature with the understanding that she, too, needs support and care.

MBTI

Madeleine’s personality aligns with the MBTI type ENFJ (Extraverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging), known as “The Protagonist.” As an ENFJ, she is warm, charismatic, and highly attuned to the emotions and needs of those around her. Her extraverted nature makes her thrive in social situations, whether working closely with colleagues or comforting patients, and she excels at building strong, supportive relationships. Her intuition allows her to see the bigger picture, quickly understanding the underlying dynamics of complex medical situations and the emotions involved. Guided by her strong feeling preference, Madeleine is deeply empathetic and driven by a desire to help others, often putting their needs first. Her judging trait makes her organized and decisive, qualities essential for navigating the fast-paced environment of the hospital. Though she radiates optimism and confidence, she can be sensitive to criticism, as she values harmony and seeks to ensure that everyone feels understood and supported.

Fears/Phobias

Madeleine’s fears stem from her deep sense of responsibility and empathy. She has an intense fear of failure, especially in life-or-death situations, and dreads losing loved ones or patients. Though outgoing, she harbors a fear of abandonment and struggles with the weight of imposter syndrome, constantly worrying she’s not good enough. Despite her caring nature, Madeleine is afraid of being emotionally vulnerable, keeping others at a distance to protect herself from potential pain. Though she faces death and mistakes regularly in her career, both remain unsettling fears that linger in the back of her mind.

Strengths

1. Expertise in Medical Knowledge and Surgical Precision: Madeleine has a deep understanding of advanced medical techniques, particularly in cardiovascular medicine, which is crucial in a hospital that specializes in such procedures. Her expertise makes her an invaluable asset in diagnosing complex conditions and saving lives, especially in the highly competitive environment of Dr. Mason Harvey’s hospital.

2. Adaptability and Quick Thinking: In the fast-paced, high-pressure world of Harvey’s hospital, Madeleine excels at adapting to the sudden changes that come with medical emergencies. She can think on her feet when faced with limited resources, an important skill given the prestige and expectations of the hospital.

3. Resourcefulness: In a facility with cutting-edge technology but also the challenges of high demand and limited space, Madeleine’s resourcefulness stands out. She’s skilled at finding creative, effective solutions when faced with tight deadlines, complex cases, or when cutting-edge equipment fails to deliver.

4. Fierce Independence: While Madeleine values collaboration, she also thrives on her independence, often taking charge in moments when others might hesitate. Her ability to make decisions quickly and confidently is critical in a hospital where patients’ lives are on the line and the stakes are incredibly high.

5. Calm Under Pressure: Madeleine’s ability to maintain composure during life-threatening emergencies or in the face of Dr. Harvey’s health struggles makes her a reliable presence. In a hospital full of intense pressures, her calmness not only keeps her focused but also reassures her colleagues and patients.

6. Determined and Driven: Madeleine’s ambition and drive to prove herself in Harvey’s competitive hospital are unparalleled. She constantly pushes herself, knowing that one misstep could ruin her chances of securing the prestigious position and reputation she’s working towards, as well as the mystery surrounding Harvey’s illness.

7. Empathy and Compassion: Madeleine’s compassionate nature allows her to connect with patients on a personal level, building trust even in the most difficult circumstances. Her genuine care for others is a vital asset, especially in a hospital where patients often feel more like cases than people.

8. Emotional Intelligence: Madeleine’s ability to read people and gauge their emotional states is a key asset in her hospital environment. Whether dealing with patients in pain, stressed-out colleagues, or Dr. Harvey’s secretive behavior, she uses her emotional awareness to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics and help everyone stay focused on their roles.

9. Strong Problem-Solving Skills: At the heart of Madeleine’s approach to medicine is her ability to break down complex issues and find practical, sometimes unconventional, solutions. Whether it’s a difficult diagnosis or a logistical challenge in the hospital, she’s quick to analyze situations and find the best path forward.

10. Leadership Through Example: Though Madeleine doesn’t seek out formal leadership positions, her dedication to her patients and the hospital’s mission naturally draws people to follow her example. Her hard work and integrity inspire confidence and trust among her peers, making her a natural leader, even when she isn’t in charge.

Weaknesses

1. Overcommitment to Perfection: Madeleine’s drive to excel in the competitive environment of Harvey’s hospital can sometimes lead to her overcommitting to her work, pushing herself beyond her limits. Her fear of failure and the need to be the best may result in exhaustion or burnout.

2. Tendency to Take on Too Much: Her resourcefulness and independence, while strengths, can also make her reluctant to delegate tasks or seek help. She sometimes takes on too much, believing that she needs to handle everything on her own, which can lead to stress or overlooked details.

3. Emotional Overinvestment: Madeleine’s deep empathy and compassion often mean she becomes emotionally over-invested in her patients’ outcomes, making it hard for her to separate her personal feelings from her professional responsibilities. This can leave her vulnerable to emotional exhaustion or guilt if things don’t go as planned.

4. Struggles with Vulnerability: While Madeleine’s independence is a strength, it also makes it difficult for her to ask for help or express weakness. She may appear distant or detached when she’s feeling overwhelmed, leading others to perceive her as less approachable when she’s struggling.

5. Reluctance to Compromise: Her strong problem-solving skills and desire for control can sometimes make Madeleine inflexible or resistant to compromise, especially in high-stakes situations. She might find it difficult to collaborate when her solution is at odds with others, which could strain her relationships with colleagues.

6. Internal Pressure: Her constant drive to succeed can cause undue internal pressure. She often holds herself to impossibly high standards, which can lead to self-doubt and a harsh self-criticism when things don’t go perfectly. This can impact her confidence and decision-making.

7. Difficulty with Emotional Boundaries: Madeleine’s empathy can sometimes blur the lines between professional and personal boundaries. She may form deep emotional connections with patients, but this can also lead to attachment issues or an inability to remain detached when dealing with tragic outcomes.

8. Avoidance of Emotional Intimacy: While Madeleine is emotionally intelligent and intuitive, she tends to avoid deep emotional intimacy, fearing the risk of loss or vulnerability. This could make it difficult for her to form lasting relationships or open up to others, even when she deeply desires connection.

9. Overthinking Situations: Madeleine’s natural tendency to problem-solve can sometimes turn into overthinking. She may spend too much time analyzing and reconsidering decisions, which can slow her down in fast-paced environments and create unnecessary stress.

10. Unintentional Leadership Strain: Although her leadership through example inspires many, it can also unintentionally put pressure on her peers, as they may feel they need to keep up with her level of dedication and performance. This could isolate her from others who may not be able to handle the same intensity.

Family

Barron Delevingne, Madeleine’s father, is a stoic and practical man who has always expected a high level of responsibility from his children. A successful businessman, Barron has a commanding presence and a sharp mind for numbers, but he’s always placed great value on stability and order. He believes in a clear-cut sense of duty and has encouraged Madeleine to carry herself with the same level of professionalism and composure that he exudes. Though he supports her career ambitions, his expectations often feel burdensome to Madeleine, especially when it comes to fulfilling the family legacy. Their relationship is respectful but carries an undercurrent of tension, as Barron’s expectations sometimes clash with Madeleine’s more empathetic, people-oriented approach to medicine.

Ophelia Delevingne, Madeleine’s mother, is a warm, nurturing woman who has always been deeply connected to her children on an emotional level. Ophelia’s kindness and understanding are some of her greatest strengths, and Madeleine often seeks her comfort when she is struggling. Ophelia’s quiet strength is reflected in her calm demeanor and her ability to support Madeleine in her endeavors, even when she disagrees with her methods. She believes in Madeleine’s ability to bring light to the world and is often the one who reminds her to take time for herself. Though Ophelia is not directly involved in medicine, her compassion and emotional insight have shaped the way Madeleine approaches her patients, often reminding her of the importance of emotional care alongside physical treatment.

Benjamin Delevingne, Madeleine’s older brother, is both a close confidant and an occasional rival. While they share a deep bond, Benjamin has always been a bit more detached from the emotional side of life, focusing instead on practicality and ambition. As the older sibling, he often feels a sense of responsibility to protect Madeleine, though he sometimes comes across as more pragmatic and distant. He is driven and successful in his own right, though his career path has taken a different direction than Madeleine’s, causing some friction between them. Despite their differences, Benjamin is always there when Madeleine needs him, even if his form of support is more practical than emotional. Backstory

Madeleine Delevingne was born into the well-established Delevingne family, a lineage known for its business acumen and legacy of social standing. Her father, Barron Delevingne, is a successful entrepreneur whose company holds considerable sway in the city’s commerce, and her mother, Ophelia, is a nurturing woman whose compassion runs deep within the family. As the youngest of two siblings, Madeleine grew up in the shadow of her older brother, Benjamin, who was always more detached and focused on practicalities. Their upbringing was one of structure and expectations, where success was measured not by happiness or fulfillment but by the achievement of set goals and the continuation of the family’s legacy.

Barron, a man of few words and high standards, expected nothing less than perfection from his children, especially Madeleine. While he had always hoped one of them would inherit his business, Madeleine’s natural inclination toward medicine and healing set her apart. From a young age, she showed an empathy and sensitivity toward people that her father could never fully understand. He admired her ambition but disapproved of her choice to pursue medicine, viewing it as a less lucrative and stable profession than the family business. This created an unspoken tension between them, with Madeleine feeling the weight of his expectations and struggling to prove her worth as a doctor.

Her mother, Ophelia, was the emotional anchor in her life. She always supported Madeleine’s dreams, even when those dreams took her down a different path from the rest of the family. Ophelia’s gentle encouragement gave Madeleine the strength to follow her heart, and in many ways, her mother’s compassion became the cornerstone of Madeleine’s approach to medicine. Ophelia believed that healing went beyond just physical cures—it was about nurturing the soul, offering hope, and fostering human connection, values that deeply resonated with Madeleine.

Benjamin, her older brother, was always the more pragmatic and driven sibling. While Madeleine pursued her studies and her passion for healing, Benjamin climbed the ranks of his chosen field with ease. He often played the role of the older protector, looking out for her but remaining somewhat emotionally distant. His sense of responsibility for Madeleine often felt more like a duty than a genuine understanding of her struggles. Though they shared a deep bond, their differing perspectives on life sometimes led to tension, especially when Benjamin would push her to be more “practical” in her career choices.

As Madeleine grew older and entered the demanding world of medicine, the strain between her and Barron intensified. Her decision to work at a prestigious hospital, despite the pressure to join the family business, further distanced her from her father’s expectations. While she excelled in her field, driven by a desire to help others and heal those in need, she often felt the burden of needing to prove herself to her family, especially to her father. Their strained relationship, coupled with her determination to succeed on her own terms, left Madeleine grappling with feelings of inadequacy and the constant fear of falling short of Barron’s high expectations.

Madeleine’s path was shaped by the conflicting influences of her family—her father’s demanding expectations, her mother’s nurturing love, and her brother’s practical guidance. Each of these elements molded her into the compassionate, empathetic, and driven woman she is today, though they also created an internal struggle between the desire for independence and the weight of familial expectations. Her career in medicine has become not only her passion but also her way of seeking validation and carving out her own identity, away from the shadow of her family’s expectations.

Dr. Mason Harvey | Head of Hospital / Cardiovascular Surgery | M: Madeleine, Max

“Harvey, they’re ready for you.”

“Says who, you? Is there evidence or did you just conceptualize that in your corrupted mind?” The dark-haired man peered over his desk to meet the eyes of his closest friend and right hand in the hospital, who also happened to be the head of the psychiatric department. Not gaining enough of a reaction from the man for the way he was disrespecting his specialization, Harvey paused, grew a smug smile, then added, “my inner child is still finishing up this paperwork.”

“Ha ha. Very funny.” The bright-eyed doctor stepped into the room further, glancing down at the task that the gloomy gentleman was actually performing: sorting the applicants the hospital had accepted into piles based on how likely he believed they were to fail. When he raised an eyebrow at the sheer volume of applicants he’d placed in each department’s respective ‘first to go home’ category, the seated gentleman rolled his eyes.

“Don’t act like I’m so off base here, Jesus Christ. You focus on your mind miracles while the rest of us are here in reality.”

“Whose reality,” the psychiatrist quipped. “Yours? I’ve been in this hospital long enough to know that it’s not a nice place to be. But I’ll go back to turning wine into water, or whatever.”

Not so long after Maxwell Arthur’s exit from his office, Dr. Harvey exited on his own power and paused in his doorway on the highest level of the hospital, peering over the intricate glass architecture to examine what was occurring in the first floor lobby, which was the only space large enough to host all of the applicants that his overly optimistic and indecisive panel had elected into the program. When he saw the sheer volume of the masses that had accumulated in that space, he exhaled, asking himself why he hadn’t found the time to simply accept and reject the large group of under qualified doctors himself. Taking the elevator down to the second floor, Harvey accepted a microphone from Dr. Isaac, another close acquaintance of him who worked as the head of both pediatrics and neurosurgery. Ysabel was quite married to her job here, the one thing that Dr. Harvey had in common with the few people he trusted enough to take high positions in this establishment.

“Since I don’t need to introduce myself, I’ll keep this short. Look around you, and see everyone who has been accepted into this program. There are over five thousand of you that have been accepted at this point. By the end of the day, less than half of you will remain. By the end of the week, less than a quarter. The very best doctors in the entire world want to come here to study and practice medicine, so you have to show me why you belong here with them. I don’t tolerate mistakes, and I don’t tolerate excuses, so if you’re looking for this to be a pleasant experience for you, I suggest you find your nearest exit now. For those of you who want to prolong the misery for yourselves, the competition begins right now. Your first task is to save my life.”

Before Max, Ysabel, or any of the other doctors could make their way across the upper-level hallway to take the mystery syringe out of his hand, the tall figure injected something into his body, only instructing the department heads to pay close attention to their students to discern who to fire before dropping unconscious on the ground, completely limp and lifeless. As the department heads watched, roughly half of the students rushed forward in their regular clothing to try to fight their way into Dr. Harvey’s immediate vicinity, discarding their backpacks, jackets, and purses in the central lobby and waiting room. The other half either meekly waited for the doctor to stand back up, assuming he hadn’t actually done anything to put himself at risk, or simply because they did not want to confront what had turned into a competitive, angry mob of doctors looking to treat their professional idol. Others seemed terrified, annoyed, or in despair at the prospect of what the head of the hospital had described the competition as, and had taken his advice in leaving the hospital and the competition before anything had even really began. Among this large group, Dr. Arthur observed several familiar faces, some which he’d seen in the applications he’d combed through during his time on the panel, and others from individual interviews which he’d conducted, along with other panel members, for the past year or more in anticipation of this moment. Still another, a younger blonde women, he recognized from another place: he’d just seen her photo in the pile of applicants Dr. Harvey had labeled ‘first to go home,’ though he couldn’t directly remember which department her specialization was in. Of course, even the slightest knowledge and preparation placed him high above the position that the applicants were currently in, especially when Dr. Harvey had sneakily scheduled appointments for each department with important figures that kept them incapable of stepping in and helping the applicants solve their case for them. What was even more overwhelming for the applicants was that Dr. Harvey had never explicitly told them to be ready to work that first day, and some had even come in still carrying their suitcases. To them, it was supposed to be a relaxing, short orientation day. To Dr. Mason Harvey, it was an opportunity to teach them that working at his establishment meant being ready for high-pressure situations at any time, regardless of perception or interpretation.

Madeleine Delevingne | Neurosurgeon | M: Dr. Harvey, Applicants

Madeleine had watched Dr. Harvey from the back of the room, her arms crossed as he delivered his speech. There was an intensity in his voice, a coldness she’d come to expect from the man who had become almost legendary in medical circles. His challenge wasn’t a surprise—everything about this program was designed to break the weak. But as he continued, there was a flicker in her gut, something that told her this was more than a simple test of competence. It was something deeper, something calculated.

When Dr. Harvey pulled out the syringe, Madeleine’s heart skipped. Her eyes narrowed, a mix of curiosity and unease settling over her. What is he doing? The doctors around her tensed, sensing the shift. Then, without hesitation, he injected himself. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd, and for a brief moment, silence hung in the air before the room erupted into chaos.

Madeleine stood amidst the crowd, her breath catching slightly as Dr. Harvey collapsed onto the floor. The room had shifted in an instant from an assembly of hopeful doctors to chaos, as half of the candidates surged forward, their eyes wild with desperation. Her ocean-blue eyes flickered between the unconscious figure of Dr. Harvey and the mob, calculating her next move.

Her heart raced, but she forced herself to remain calm. The hysteria around her was palpable—doctors clambering over one another in their scramble to reach Harvey. She watched them, some shoving others aside, their professionalism forgotten. It was clear that most of them weren’t thinking—just reacting. That wasn’t going to work.

Think, she reminded herself. Rushing blindly into the fray would only result in adding more chaos. She inhaled slowly, pushing her nerves aside, and her mind began to race through possibilities. If this was a test, as it so clearly seemed to be, then there was something more to it than just a medical challenge. Dr. Harvey wouldn’t be so reckless.

With a quick glance around, she moved with purpose toward the periphery, where a group of candidates still stood frozen. They were hesitant, unsure whether to join the frenzy or to remain passive observers. Madeleine’s fingers itched to dive in herself, to find out what exactly had been injected into him. But she knew better than to get caught up in the chaos.

Taking charge, she turned to the group beside her, her voice cutting through the noise with authority. “We need a plan. If we all rush in, nothing will get done. We need to work as a team.”

Some stared at her blankly, fear etched into their features, but a few nodded, their eyes brightening as they recognized the sense in her words. She pulled off her scrub jacket and tossed it aside. “Cardiac or neuro first. Who’s got access to the toxins in the hospital supply?” Her mind raced with every bit of knowledge she’d gathered over the years.

“Are we really going to let them take the lead?” someone asked, motioning to the doctors already swarming Harvey. Madeleine shook her head.

“They’re panicking. Let them try, but we’ll be the ones who actually save him,” she said, her lips curving slightly, a touch of her usual charm showing. Her focus, though, was razor-sharp. She needed to figure out what Dr. Harvey had injected himself with. Her mind flickered to her toxicology training—if it was an intentional overdose, they’d need to act fast. “Get me any syringes they’ve used or discarded. And someone keep an eye on his vitals.”

Her eyes flicked over to where Harvey lay, limp and lifeless, and for a brief moment, a pang of worry tightened her chest. She couldn’t afford to be distracted by fear. There was too much at stake.

The first step, as always, was observation.
