As if life wasn't bad enough, here was Aleyah's father doing what he did best. Drink- beat her mother and sleep. Scoffing, she threw on a cloak readying herself for the harsh winter outside. For weeks they had been snowed in the small cabin, her mother doing her best to stretch out what little food they had before the storm started. Speaking of, Aleyah could still hear her shuffling about in the kitchen, looking for something that wasn't there. But life wasn't always like this- there was a time when she loved and was loved in return. By the man who snored away on the battered down sofa- head inclined back; a quick thought of slicing his throat crossing the young girls mind. But living like this for years she became a shell of her former self. But leaving her mother to this life? It wasn't an option- not one she would gladly take.

Huffing she called a simple 'see you later' to her mother before she was off into the woods. The barn a good distance from the cabin itself, something she often wished was different. Not that she was lazy, but it was a trek when the snow was cold against her torn up boots- seeping in and wetting her socks. This was the life of Aleyah- one she dreamed of leaving behind one day- either by death or another reason. It didn't matter. Any life was better then this one. Finally at the barn, Aleyah opened the doors to the black mares stall- a soft snort coming from the animal. "Hey Gysha." She cooed, her hand rubbing the mare's neck. Gysha stomping her foot as her ears folded back. It caused a small chuckle to fall from Aleyah who already knew the mare had pent up energy needing a release. She had spent months training the horse, raising it from a foal- a gift from her mother years ago when things were...normal.

Though even then, Aleyah's memory wasn't the best being she was only five or so when the abuse began from her father- her memories of him long tarnished by the torment she went through daily. As if knowing where her thoughts were headed the mare nudged her shoulder- making them go away briefly. "I'm coming. Im coming." She mused grabbing the saddle and hoisting it over Gysha's back after the blanket was placed- strapping all the tacks that needed it and then moving on to the bridle. It didn't take long for the process to be complete, Aleyah swinging herself over the horses back and clicking her tongue to begin her gait out the barn and into the forest for her hunt. The bow and arrows she used in a quiver across her back- another gift from her mother.

This one more...not sentimental. As it was only a gift because her father couldn't find it in himself to care for his family. Much less feed them. It had taken her years to perfect the use of the bow and arrows often missing her target and ending up with nothing. Those were the years she had to steal from others in the town square which was miles from home. It had taken her hours to get there and had gotten back to the cabin at nightfall- her mother the only one slightly worried about her making it home. Aleyah shivered against the cold, leaning forward to pet the mare again "Cold ain't it?" She hummed quietly- her blue orbs moving around the wooded area- looking for any sign of Prey.

She had been out for a few hours now, tracking the small herd of deer- counting three. A mother and her two young calfs- their horns barely visible to the eye. Drawing her bow out, she knocked an arrow into place- string pulled back ready to strike when a growl from

the bushes spooked both her and her horse. The wolf slowly moving out from the bushes to pounce onto the deer who hadn't realized just yet what kind of danger lurked above. It was a split second decision, one that would cost her a meal but it was also either her or the prey. Becoming predator, she let the arrow go piercing the wolfs side in a clean blow- red liquid staining the snow below. It's golden eyes swirling to Aleyah, who in turn inhaled a sharp breath as the deer scampered and he fell to the ground with a thud. Counting down the seconds, One. Two. Three- another intake of breath as the wolf shifted into another form. Human. No; This wasn't human- couldn't be.

Aleyah cursed, swinging herself down from her horse and running toward the body laying limp. It was gasping for air, lungs filling with blood and eyes wavering. "No. No. No." She muttered bending down to try and remove the arrow pointing out from his side. This was it, she was going to jail for murdering someone. In the town this wasn't something that occurred often- in fact it was mostly men who killed. And hunted. Surely whoever this was now had someone ready to hunt her as well. Hurriedly she grabbed his arms, dragging the lifeless body toward Gysha- grunting as she strained to throw his body over the back of the horse- no chance was she going to leave it here. Mounting Gysha again she began the trail back home- this time a more steady pace. Her mother had to know what to do. She had to.

// don't worry, it's great! my opening post will only be exposition of the world building, my character will arrive after Aleyah talked with her mother cx //

Life on Eatth began on one humongous land, before the planet dried and cracked and water filled between, creating the islands as it was when this story began. The planet remained too large to be held by gravity when a meteorite struck, wrenching it off its original path closer to the Sun, and the two chunks that crumbled became the twin satellites, Makoon and Manaar, that accompanied its path in the solar system to this day. Yet the planet was held steadfast by Yggdrasil, a clonal colony of the Quaking World Tree; Its living roots pulsed deep beneath the ground to this very day, and Its branches damned the grounds beneath It to eternal darkness. The Dark Continent, Gorelph.

It was said the faeries were the first-borns of Yggdrasil, cocooned in Its diamond-shaped fruit—pearl-hued with transluscent sheen; glimmering in the darkness of Gorelph.

They were giants, at first, a pure force imbued by the essence of Yggdrasil, able to hear Its whisper and connect with each other through Its roots. Equipped by just enough strength, speed, and wit to endure Gorelph's extreme cold and complete darkness; the extreme seasons of Aenir, the lands lit by the Sun before the first trees grew; and drank acidic, poisonous water of Serza, the seas that surround the surface lands.

Yggdrasil was cursed by Its own growth. As the World Tree's four trunks continued to reach above the atmosphere, the roots tangled and suffocated themselves, nutrients of Eatth depleted. Along with Yggdrasil's expiring over the centuries, the First Faeries grew smaller and weaker with each passing generation.

Humans, on the other hand, rose from dirt when Yggdrasil's every pulse no longer shook the surface. Born after the cracking of Eatth surface to a more forgiving weather and accessible clean water, the humankind was a far inferior race from the fae folk, and for millenias they were slaves and livestocks of the latter.

Yet for all their weaknesses, humankind was not Yggdrasil's children, and thus wasn't effected by Its degradation. Meanwhile the once glorious and unshakable faerie civilization continued to decline, until eventually arrived the time when human Lords and Ladies of the 17 Territories waged wars devastating enough to force a Treaty with the High Farie Kings and Queens of the Four Seasons Courts.

Since, the faeries released their tyrannical grip off the 17 Territories and left the humans to rule themselves. 10 Kingdoms and 7 Queendoms rose in their place. Humans, blind in their hard-earned and yet newly found freedom, quickly turned against each other as their meager replicas of faerie's Courts waged wars driven by cluelessness, greed, and generational anger that no longer had a common enemy to fight against. In the midst of man-made devastation, it took only 100 years for the people to forget what true faeries were like. All that was left for the new generation were tales of fae, muddled by fear-mongering and thirst of beauty and power, fueled by imagination or delusion. Even on the towns scraping by the borders of neutral grounds between human and faerie rule, the common folk no longer grasped which was myth and which was true of the faerie nature.

There were, however, some common knowledge that remained firmly in tales passed by parents to their children about the fae folks.

High faeries, also known as the Sidhe, were the rulers of all fae folks. They were the most powerful of all faeries.

High faeries were known for their regal and imposing presence, and were often depicted as tall, beautiful beings with pointed ears, ethereal wings, and shimmering clothing made of fine silks and jewels. They possessed powerful magical abilities, and were said to be able to manipulate nature and the elements at will. All Sidhe possessed glamour, the ability to create illusions. As most fae folk, perhaps even more so, they were bound to their promises.

The Kings and Queens of the Four Seasons Courts were the highest authority of the faerie race. They presided over the four courts, each one representing a season: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.

The Spring Court of the North was ruled by King Thalion and Queen Lilyana, both of whom had hair as green as fresh leaves and eyes as blue as the sky on a clear day. Their court was the most festive and lively of all, filled with bright colors, flowers, and laughter. The faeries of the Spring Court were known for their love of music and dance, and their magic was infused with the power of growth and rebirth.

The Summer Court of the South was ruled by King Solstice and Queen Ember, both with hair as bright as the sun and eyes as fiery as the flames. Their court was hot and passionate, filled with the scents of blooming flowers and ripening fruits. The faeries of the Summer Court were masters of fire and light, and their magic could bring warmth and healing to those in need.

The Autumn Court of the North was ruled by King Oaken and Queen Elara, both with hair as red as falling leaves and eyes as brown as the earth. Their court was the most solemn and introspective of all, filled with muted colors and a quiet sense of mystery. The faeries of the Autumn Court were experts in magic related to death and decay, but also transformation and change.

The Winter Court of the South was ruled by King Nograve and Queen Vebunn, both with hair as white as snow and eyes as blue as ice. Their court was the most austere and cold of all, filled with the beauty of snowflakes and icicles. The faeries of the Winter Court were capable of manipulating the elements of water and ice, and their magic was infused with the power of stillness and contemplation.

These were again divided into two factions: Seelie and Unseelie.

The Seelie was composed of faeries who were generally considered benevolent, and they were known to be more willing to interact with humans in a positive manner. They were associated with the lighter, brighter seasons of spring and summer, and they were often seen as the "good" faeries.

The Unseelie, on the other hand, was composed of faeries who were considered more malevolent and mischievous. They were associated with the darker, colder seasons of autumn and winter, and they were often seen as the "bad" faeries. The Unseelie faeries were known to play pranks on humans, and they were said to be more likely to cause harm or mischief.

The division between Seelie and Unseelie faeries was not always clear-cut, however. Some faeries were considered to be neutral, while others were seen as belonging to both courts. There were even faeries who could switch between the two courts depending on their mood or the situation at hand. Despite these distinction, even Seelie faeries were to be avoided, as all faeries had distinct and complex rules wildly different from humans. It was way too easy for a human to anger a faerie, and all faerie was dangerous.

The fae folk were a diverse and complex race, with many different kinds of beings existing within their society. Some of the most well-known types of faeries were the pixies, who were small and mischievous creatures known for their love of pranks and tricks. Pixies were often found in the forests and meadows, where they played games with each other and delighted in confusing humans who stumbled upon them.

Another type of faerie was the brownie, a creature often associated with the home and hearth. Brownies were said to be helpful beings who would perform household tasks such as sweeping and tidying up in exchange for a bowl of cream or a piece of bread. They were generally considered friendly to humans and were known to protect households from evil spirits and other malevolent creatures.

Other types of faeries included the selkies, who were seal-like creatures that could shapeshift into human form, and the banshees, who were known for their wailing cries that foretold the death of a family member. There were also the naiads, who lived in bodies of water and were said to be guardians of rivers and streams, as well as the dryads, who were tree spirits that lived in the forests and protected the trees from harm.

And like the sun had been dragged back down to the pits of hell, it became colder the longer she went on. Gysha was panting by the time they made it back to the small cabin- the darkness around it almost swallowing it whole. "Mother!" Aleyah screamed as she swung her legs over the horse and stomped onto the ground. It didn't take long for the door to come flying open revealing her mother and father. "What the hel-" But she stopped short upon seeing the man laid on the horse's back. "crap." Her mother cursed moving forward to remove the man from the back on the horse while her father still stood there stunned and confused. "You killed someone?!" He eventually turned on her, stalking toward her with a closed fist.

"Stop It!" Her mother ordered and for whatever reason he did, turning back to her with a a growl. "Now Aleyah. Help me move him inside. You take the horse to the barn." Her mother finally ordered her father- and it stunned everyone there. Even her. She hadn't raised her voice at him ever, much less told him to do something and he listened. Aleyah didn't know if it was the alcohol already in his blood or what that made him grumble a reply and do as he was told- but she didn't take long to ponder it either. Quickly she helped her mother move the man into the cabin, his lifeless body placed gently onto the floor next to the fire place.

"Did anyone see you?"

"No." Was all she replied back, still staring at the body of a man she had killed. Shit. It hit her harder then before and the panic was rising up slowly. "They are gonna hang me for this." She whimpered, but it was her mother who shook her body back to reality and away from her reeling mind. "Listen to me girl. He is not like us. What was he before you shot an arrow through him?" She asked, a seriousness to her tone. "A wolf. Or so I thought." She uttered, but her mother shook her head a solemn smile on her face. "He was a wolf. He is a Faerie of some kind. And you just made the biggest mistake anyone could make." But she didn't know. How could she know? Faeries didn't exist. That was just a tale mothers told children to make them behave.

"That not real mom. How can that be?" But even as she moved her eyes between the man who was once wolf and her mother she knew in her heart what she was saying was real. And she was dead. Or worse.

//Another meh post.I promise they will get better length wise and all.//

The world itself seemed to dim as white pain pierced through Erukoi.

Yggdrasil's tendrils on the male's left arm coiled tighter with every remaining heartbeat of the contract owner.

His vision grew blurry. Everything around him, the comforting golden lights and golden furnitures, seemed to melt and raged into a flurry of greyscaled colors as he felt himself falling, noises of memories ringing through his head with jagged intensity. He could not pinpoint the exact moment he had found himself, biped turned into quadruped, golden skin transformed into golden fur, nails to claws, in the midst of human settlement. He was standing over the faerie's limp body. Seladren's eyes staring back at Erukoi, oddly peaceful, yet Erukoi knew that those eyes would have looked at him with disappointment and vengeance had they not been lifeless. He would know, sooner or later. Little lights traveled through the tendrils connecting Erukoi and Seladren for a few moments before they unrooted from Seladren and coiled around Erukoi's left arm, burning through his skin.

The thick scent of humans mixed with earthy fragrance of elf blood prodded his lungs and Erukoi retched. Yet the retching gurgled in his throat, transformed into something entirely different, a growl that fractured space around him. Crimson tears streamed down along golden fur and drip, dripped to the floor of Aleyah's cabin. On contact with air the blood tears turned into hot molten gold that planted fire into the cabin's floor. Flames spread quickly to the walls, to the doors.

When Erukoi's curled white lashes fluttered open to reveal his blood-red pupils, he was already a feline beast almost too large for the room he was in, with long curled fur and ferocious head, massive claws protruding out of his four paws. His agonized gaze met a young human girl's. Aleyah.

He was reeling inside, refusing to recognize the scent of Seladren's blood and death on her.

Why must it be you?

But he knew the truth, and no matter how he tried to silence his mind, he still knew. His nose recognized Gysha's scent before he could drag his eyes away from his promised. The contractual tendrils that connected the three of them grew heavier with proximity.

Can you feel it?

Erukoi searched Aleyah's face for any sign of recognition. Any kind of emotion. She was not Yggdrasil's daughter. He couldn't remember if humans, Eatth's own children, could feel or even see Yggdrasil's magical tendrils. Yet there they were, clearer than anything else for him, coiling both Aleyah and Gysha's wrist. Coiling around his own wrist. For or as long as the promise remains unfulfilled.

He remembered that unlike faeries, humans are not bound by their promises. A trait that made them so fearsome.

Liars, liars, dishonorable tricksters, all of them.

His deep voice bursted out from between bared fangs—each the size of a dagger—shook the flames, echoing through the room and overpowered the crackling of the wood and stone.

"I have come to reclaim a debt."

Aleyah was watching the flames of the fire, her shoulders sagging because the effort to stay strong was slowly willed out of her body. The doors to the cabin groaned as her father stormed back into the cabin, eyes set on her as he marched toward her hand drawn back and ready to strike. She didn't take try to run, or move instead she let the sting of the slap welcome the hot tears the followed after. "We are all dead girl." He barked, but it was stopped short when the flames from the fire shifted into something much more darker. The looming frame of another, a beast yet part man as well now stood over the dead body of the Faerie.

Chills, that was the first thing to describe that moment, watching he his eyes turned to her finally, the redness a burning ember in her own. And fear. The second emotion that came rising up as her mother drew closer to them both- her own father wide eyed and staring at the man. Or beast. Aleyah watched the flames drew toward the walls, sweeping like floor like it was nothing; and it was. Within seconds the cabin was up in flames, smoke filling the inside where her mother tried to drag her out. But shackles were bound to her, or so it seemed as her feet stayed planted solidly in the ground. "He is gonna kill us all.." Her mother cried weakly, but it wasn't those words that had her moving toward the creature- but what he said.

She heard the door open before she she saw them, both of them leaving her to this..monster. It was a shame, a pity that they hadn't even loved her enough to drag her out with them; even if they were followed. But perhaps her mother knew just as well as she, if Aleyah ran they would all be dead within seconds. But somehow some way, the fire hadn't yet touched her and the smoke barely doing anything to her lungs. Perhaps it was the magic radiating from the creatures body- or maybe she was just delusional and seeing things. "What do I owe you?"
