The explorers map just helps you see where your pack is and wherethe enemies are so you're not just walking around in circles looking for foxes, badgers, etc.

you already have anatomy down quite well, the only critique i'd suggest is not using just black for the lines! i like to use a slightly darker shade of the darkest color i'm using for the piece to do the lineart. it just makes it look less harsh :) (then again, i NEVER use black in any of my art ^^')
