Welcome to the Summer Tournament

With the warmer months approaching, everyone is in a merry mood. Prey will become plentiful again, and pups are to be born. The forest is starting to bloom again, becoming more lush with every morning. Birds sing their songs, and the creek has finally melted. Summer has arrived.

With summer, the pack is in high spirits. The cold months are behind them, and things are finally looking up. But this isn't just any summer. The three sons of the alpha pair will turn four, marking the Tournament.

The Tournamnent is a multi-series competition between the alpha's sons. A tool to see who is worthy to become the next alpha. The Tournament has been a tradition ever since the pack was established, and it only comes in the summers in which multiple alpha offspring turn four. Otherwise, it would simply pass down to the eldest. But this year, their litter of three all turn four. Ever since they were born, this has been their destiny.

Roles And Heirarchy

The roles are listed in order of dominance, unless stated otherwise.

Alphas
The most dominant pair. Usually there is a blood lineage for the alpha line.

Ambassador
Single wolf who is the right hand of the alpha pair. May run and do special errands and jobs for them. They are sworn to secrecy and loyalty.

Betas
The pair(do not need to be mates, but it is usually expected for them to be eventually) who is second in command for when the alphas are busy. However, they almost never inherit the title of alpha. They are more like the inner circle of the alphas. Trusted advisors and commanders.

Curer
The wolf who devotes their life to the ways of herbs and healing. They know basic fighting techniques but their true gifts lay in medical work.

Warriors
They are the workers of the pack, tasked with hunting, patroling, and basic protection.

Mothers
Females who are nursing or expecting pups. At a certain point, they are expected to simply rest and prepare for labor.

Elders
The older wolves who spend their time relaxing. They occasionally might join and hunt or patrol if they wish.

Juveniles
Younger wolves who have since been weaned and are learning and being taught lessons.

Pups
Younger wolves who are still nursing or weaning.

Elders, Warriors, and Mothers are roughly on the same dominance level.

Loners
Wolves not part of the pack.

The Tournament

The Tournament is a season-long competition between any alpha offspring who have just reached the age of four. It is a test to see which will inherit the title as alpha next summer. Several trials are held throughout the summer that will test different abilities. Some of them are listed here:

Hunting
There are several trials of hunting, in which the offspring will be given a chance to show their hunting prowess. While there is no clear winner, impressions are made and they have the chance to gain the favor of their packmates and their parents.

River Crossing
Every summer, when the ice and stream melt, the river is known to pick up pace and the current swells for a couple days. There is a trial in which the offspring must find a way across the river. In the past, most have swam across, fighting the current which threatens to push them downstream. Other times, some cunning wolves have been able to leap across slippery boulders and downed tree trunks.

Popularity
No, this is not an official competition. But social preference is a part of the game as well. After all, the final heir is the one with the favor of the alphas and the pack itself. Each Tournament has a social aspect. Which offspring will have the favor of their packmates? How do they wish to gain it? Through noble promises? Silly flirtations? Or maybe they strike fear into the hearts of their packmates?

Courting
No, this is not a trial either, but it is also an aspect. During the Tournament, it is not unlikely for the offspring to begin to court others. The main goal is for them to find a suitable match in case they were to win the title of Future Alpha. That way, they can ensure a smooth transition to the throne and future pups are almost guaranteed.

Extra Loopholes and Nuances...

While the offspring are the ones expected to enter the Tournament, they do not have to. In the past, few have dropped out or forfeited the title to another sibling. This is looked down upon, unless the one surrendering has a viable reason(sickness, injury, etc).

On the flipside, not only the offspring may join the Tournament. In very few occasions, other pack wolves have joined. It is considered risky, as it can be seen as mutiny. And it is very acceptable for the pack wolf to be kicked from the pack if an offspring wins the title in the end. But this is how eras and bloodlines have started and ended in the past.

Once the Tournament is complete and a winner is named, they are officially the next Heir, and are to inherit the Alpha position the next summer. But if there is some scandal or unforgivable act, their title can be stripped and another offspring is named Heir. But if everything goes smoothly, then they will simply inherit the throne and appoint new roles to their pack members. Yes, they can switch out Ambassador and Betas. In the past, this has been used as a sneaky way to gain favor and bribe pack members...

Yes, females have participated in the Tournament. It is uncommon and may some consider it either untraditional or brave. But it is possible.

Appearance

Arden's pelt is a medley of soft natural hues. Starting from his muzzle and throat is a light cream shade that also runs down his chest in a wide stripe pattern. The same shade reappears near his legs and belly. Upon the top of his narrow muzzle is a gentle warm brown color which reaches up to his forehead while darkening into a dark grey shade. Upon his ears is where soft auburn fur grows in, running down the sides of his head before blending into a mix of lighter brown tones and cream near the back of his neck. Black fur marbles across his body near his chest and along his back, speckled with lighter cream colors. His tail is a soft plume of auburn and grey. Arden's eyes are a deep amber shade. The male stands at an impressive 34 inches at the withers and sports a leaner yet tall frame.

Personality
Ever since Arden was a pup, he knew his place in the pack: future alpha. Ambition and drive was imprinted upon his brain at a young age, causing his competitive streak in his personality. He doesn't like losing, does anyone? It doesn't mean he has bad sportsmanship, but the wolf will do anything in his power to win. But he knows when the fight is officially over. He won't go to unfair lengths to win, though. Cheating and pulling strings is beneath him. At least he has dignity and a sense of morality. Instead, he likes to play by the rules, but bending them and testing their limits is nothing he is afraid to do.

Arden can come across as bold and brash, almost unable to hold his tongue. It isn't that he is stubborn and doesn't have manners. The male has a slight bit of entitlement, which comes with being an alpha heir. He knows that some things in life are to come easier to him, and he doesn't mind taking advantage of such things here and there. However, he isn't some stuck up prince who is to be waited on. Arden is willing to work for what he wants. Besides, the meal tastes sweeter when he knows he earned it.

Although he can come across as a little bit much at first, he really does have the pack's wellbeing in his mind. He would be a fair alpha, ruling for the good of the pack. His cunning would benefit him in plans and in strategy, would he ever need it.

A quiet confidence exudes him. Just standing in his presence, one can almost feel how secure he is. How he calmly gazes at his packmates, as if he is already alpha. He does not feel the need to prove himself to others, since he feels like he already has. And it is not a complete lie. The male is skilled in both hunting and combat. He has put in time and effort into studying technique and the territory. He is not idly sitting by and waiting for the crown, he has worked his entire life for it. To him, this Tournament is simply the final stretch. Possibly just a formality before he is named Alpha.

A tad cold or distant, Arden doesn't make friends too often. Partly because he is already so busy, he thinks he doesn't have much time to devote to such things. But that doesn't mean he isn't socially inclined. The wolf finds it easy to fit into the crowd and slip into a conversation if he so wishes. Perhaps others may think he is a bit too good at it, or maybe some think he is a bit too nosey. Either way, you can't win them all, can you? But once he breaks through his slightly cold persona, he is actually a worthy friend to have. Loyal to the end, he won't let you stand alone.

Alice is a Pure white she-wolf with aqua eyes. She has black paws and one gray ear. She stands at 3'1" and weighs 120 pounds. She has a scar down her right leg that is about 4 inches. Alice has a black striped tail and a gray paw on her left back paw. Alice is a pretty well built wolf with a stocky and muscular body.

She has a gray stripe going down her muzzle. Alice has a scar that goes down her right eye which caused her to have some eye pain at times. She is a bit rough in coat fur due to her age and the fact she has scars. She has a chipped off tail for a fight she was in which wasn't to bad. Alice is bulky and strong no where near as bulky as her male counter part tho.

Personality:

Alice is very sweet and cunning which helps her a lot with many things including combat plus hunting. She is only loyal to her mate and family. She can become very aggressive if needed and doesn't like it when someone will try and hurt her family. Alice doesn't really like to enter in the tournaments anymore but she use to enter them. She can be sassy and sweet at the same time.

She is one the barks and bites so don't get her too upset. Alice is a wild one but as she gets older she becomes less active as she use to. She is very caring to say the least but also very protective of her pups. She does lay from time to time and take naps due to the fact she is aging. Alice is still very dominant tho and will not tolerate any disrespect to her or her family. She doesn't like it when she get pestered and does have a bit of a short temper than most.

Appearance-

Sky has a tri-colored coat with gray legs. She stands at 2'9" and weighs about 210 pounds. Sky is a beautiful she-wolf with ice blue eyes and has Black marks scattering her body. She has a muscular build but is very agile. She has slim legs and bulky shoulders. She has a white chest and gray cheek markings.

Sky isn't the type of she-wolf you usually see due to her coloring and build. She has a scar going down her side about 3 inches long. The scar is horizontal so it is sideways. Sky doesn't have a lot of issues staying warm during the winter because she has a very soft and fluffy coat. She has a scar across her muzzle but it isn't noticeable unless you are really looking.

Personality-

Sky is a gentle one when is is with someone she is close to. She can be aggressive when upset and loves to fight. Sky cares a lot for the pups in the pack and has always wanted some of her own. She is very kind and sweet but don't let it fool you she still is very aggressive when need be. Sky has a sassy attitude with some of the pack and does get rude at times. To deal with her is to deal with a storm in all honesty.

Sky doesn't always start fight but she can be very temperamental and ends up starting most fights she is in. She doesn't want to hurt anyone younger than her tho or elders so she keeps clam and kind around them. Sky does need some stability and she doesn't get much so she does have some behavior issues. Sky isn't always aggressive but she can be spiteful a lot of the time. She doesn't really want to be a bad influence on the pups so she tries to behave around them.
