Prom night, 2021. Ten friends planned for the best night of their lives. Nothing was going to stop them from having the best junior prom ever.. until their plan fell apart. They had all agreed to take two vehicles to prom, that way they didn’t all get squished together, outfits and hair being ruined. That should have been the least of their worries, because something far worse than that happened. Something that would push their friendships to the limit. Something that would change their lives for good.

On their way to prom, one of the vehicles was hit by another that had been speeding. The sight of the teenagers being flipped around in it was horrifying. The driver was dead upon impact, while the remaining four friends were left injured. Three of which lost a good chunk of their memories, memories that defined their friendship. With three friends who now couldn't remember ever being friends with everyone, and the loss of the one person who held the group together, this group of friends had been fractured. They tried, for the longest time, trying to help their friends remember them from photos and videos they took together, but nothing worked. When summertime was coming to an end, they finally gave up. The once tight-knit group was now broken. Some people remained friends, while others left completely, unable to handle the loss of not one, but four people they held close to their heart.

Now, an entire year after the accident, it's once again prom night and summer is right around the corner. This time, everyone makes it safely. Everyone expected their night to go well, despite the heavy feeling weighing them down. They had missed prom last year, would they be able to enjoy it this year? As expected, something happened. In the midst of prom, all nine teenagers who were once friends, have been added into a group chat together. The original maker of the group, anonymous. Perhaps the universe was telling them something, urging them to rekindle their friendships and form something stronger than what they had before.

Will they be able to glue their fractured friendships back together? Or will they form a friendship stronger than the one they had before? Will the three who lost their memories get them back, or will they make new memories that will forge a stronger bond than the one they had before?

This roleplay will start off with our characters attending Prom of 2022! They may interact during prom and do whatever they'd like! They will all eventually get added to a group chat together by an anonymous person, and from there we can have them react to that!

The plan is to do a small time skip to the very beginning of summer, at which point they all decided to stay in the group chat and hopefully begin to plan some activities together!

☾ Ikaris Valentine Ravik ☽
18 male bisexual mentions; n/a

“I can’t do this.”

Standing with a pair of car keys gripped tightly in his hand, Ikaris stared at the vehicle parked outside of his house. He should be over this fear by now. From what he was told, the accident was a year ago. The only indication an accident happened were the gaps in his memory and the painless limp that sometimes made itself present. The sound of snapping fingers dragged him back into the moment. What was he- oh, right. Car. Clutching the keys even tighter in his hand, Ikaris weakly smiled, “It’s just a quick ten minute drive. I can do this.”

Looking over to his mother with his bright green eyes, his lip quivered ever so slightly. I can do this. His hand loosened, fingers unrolling gently. I can do this. His thumb finding the unlock button. I can do this. Pressure being applied to the button. I can do this. The headlights flashed on as the car beeped and then he panicked. Oh my god, I can’t do this. Suddenly, the keys dropped and Ikaris found himself backing away, his hands trembling as he fought to draw in a normal breath. Fuck, fuck, fuck! What was I thinking? I can’t-

“Kari, honey, take a deep breath.” A soft hand cupped his cheek, gently guiding his gaze downwards. Instantly he was lost in her ocean eyes. It was almost like he could taste the salty air as he ran along the beach, wet sand clinging to him as he laughed. His voice was small, defeated, “Mom?” Understanding that her son would buckle if she said the wrong thing, she smiled softly, “You did great, hun. Just like we discussed, one step at a time.” Nodding, Ikaris picked the keys up off of the concrete slab that made their driveway, his knuckles brushing against the ground. Heat rose to his cheeks as he realized that his entire family as watching him, their supportive gazes burning holes in the back of his head. He loved them to death, honestly, but it irritated him that they all treated him like this still. He understood his parents being there for him, but his younger sister and older brother? That seemed excessive.

Looking down to the keys in his hand, he sighed. Most of it was done, all he had to do now was simply get in the car and turn it on. That's all! It was so simple, but god it felt like he was trying to push a boulder up a hill. A small huff escaped his lips as he found amusement in the situation. Who would've thought that Ikaris, a six foot tall eighteen year old with an indescribable burning desire to get into fights- was standing right here, on the verge of crying. Finally, after what seemed like ages, he moved. One foot after another as he approached his car. This is good, he was doing good.

Opening the door to the driver's seat, he swallowed thickly. Almost there. Then, he climbed in. It was like sitting down in an ice cold bath, the hair on his arms stood up as the initial shock entered his body. One, a hand reaching to grab the seat-belt and securely buckling it. Two, ever so gently putting the key into the ignition. Three, turn the keys slowly. The initial roar of the engine made the man jump in his seat, cursing like a sailor. He always hated that part. No matter how prepared he was to hear it roar to life, it always scared the shit out of him.

Taking a deep breath, Ikaris smiled, throwing one of his hands out of the window and waving it at his family, "See? Piece of cake!" This was routine. Their son could get into a vehicle just fine, but all of the steps leading up to that? Not always so easy. In all honesty, the family expected him to react worse, seeing as it's the anniversary of the accident that caused all of this. Smiling at her son's accomplishment, Ikaris' mother called out, "You should really consider taking Jackson with you tonight!" Biting back a grimace, Kari pulled his hand back in the vehicle, resting it on the steering wheel, "No thanks! I broke up with him, remember?" Well, it was worth a shot.

Before she could suggest another person for her son to call his date for the night, Ikaris drove away. Leaving a small trail of dust behind. Besides, he really didn't plan on dancing anyways. He was thinking of getting into a brawl or two, something to take the edge off and keep his mind busy. Kari couldn't quite pinpoint what he was feeling, but it left a heavy boulder in his stomach, and he would do anything to get rid of that feeling; even if it meant getting a split lip or busting a knuckle or two... or both.

This was something he'd keep to himself. How could he describe something that he didn't understand? Ikaris was convinced that no one would be able to understand why he got into fights, and why he actually enjoyed them.

¥ Samira Kaitlyn Jones ¥

18 - Female - Heterosexual - mentions: n/a

Samira sat cross legged on her bed flipping through her phone. She tended to do this a lot. Sure it wasted time but it was in fact distracting. As she scrolled through the countless images her eyes landed on one. The image depicted a scene of a group of friends enjoying their time at prom. Samira herself was in this image. Tears came to her eyes as she thought of her lost friends. It was exactly one year ago that they all had gotten into a terrible car crash. Shaking away memories Samira continued to scroll through the phone until her mother's voice called her down.

“Samira!” Sighing and wiping the tears from her eyes Samira walked downstairs and to her mother. “Surely you're not wearing that to the prom!” Her mother gave a disapproving look at her ripped jeans and black t-shirt. “I'm not going to prom this year.” Samira said simply. “Honey I know what happened last year was hard, I can't imagine how you felt and still feel, but you are going to prom if you like it or not.”

“You can't force me.” Samira rolled her eyes causing her mother to laugh, her mother always laughed when she rolled her eyes. “No honey I can't, but please just go, imagine this, you will have fun and see old friends.” A pant of sadness hit Samira when her mother mentioned the word friends. “It's not that I don't want to go, it's going to be hard mom, it's going to be hard seeing them again. We have barely spoken since the car crash, and, Carissa is gone, she held us together.” Tears once again spilled from Samira's eyes as her mother embraced her. “Honey I know it's hard, but you need to get out of the house, I'm serious. Besides, it's not like you don't have a car.”

She was right, Samira had a car, a good one too. Looking out the window Samira spied her Volkswagen sitting in the driveway, as always. The truth was after the accident she was far too scared to drive it, and probably only had driven it once. Samira had received the car for her birthday a few weeks before the accident, unfortunately after the accident Samira had a fear of driving. She simply had avoided the car all this time.

“Okay..” Samira breathed, wiping the tears from her eyes, “I'll go.” She silently hoped her mother would now say otherwise and try to convince her not to go, well that was hoping too much. “Yay!” Her mother gave her a big hug, “now let's find you a dress!” Samira groaned, a dress, come on… Nevertheless she followed her mother into her bedroom and picked out a blue dress. After changing Samira glanced at the time realizing she should probably get going, and soon. Walking back downstairs Samira saw that both her parents were standing in front of her, as well as her little brother, despite his obvious protests. Hugging her parents, Samira wished them goodbye. “I love you, dad, mom, and even you Evan.” Walking towards the door car keys in hand Samira took one final breath and walked out towards her car.

“Oh jeez it smells musty in here!” Samira exclaimed as she climbed into the driver's seat. Dust had collected in parts of the car overtime and that new car smell was still there, clearly she hadn't put in enough use to the car. The black leather seats however were still perfectly fine, and quite comfortable. Putting the keys into the ignition, Samira glanced out the front window and noticed her parents watching from the window. I'll be fine.. no need to watch. Turning the keys the engine roared to life, startling Samira who was not at all used to that noise anymore. Slowly she put the car in reverse, backing out of the driveway. Once the car was turned around Samira drove the car towards the highway, relieved to see it empty. As she turned on to the main road Samira let out a sigh of relief, she had done it, well part of it.

Now to head to the school, where was that again? Samira had almost forgot how to get there herself, normally her mom drove her to school, yeah very childish, Samira was 18 and afraid to drive herself, well now she was doing it at least. Samira was so caught up in her thoughts she nearly passed the school. Turning into the school parking lot Samira had to find a place to park, parking was the hard part, Samira had never quite figured out how to do this part correctly, it always took one or two tries, possibly three. After Samira found a place to park and actually successfully did park, she sat in the car clutching the steering wheel, wondering when to get out and if she should.

Tarsay "Say" Rommen | Male | Bi | Genya

"You coming, Gen?"

He shook the keys at his friend, grinning over his beat-up Toyota. It had taken a lot of arguing, and forcing Genya to wear the suit he convinced him to buy, but they were finally outside, standing there, fully prepared and ready to go. He was glad- they were both going, whereas if he didn't go, neither would Genya. Really, he hadn't known if he would be there. After mentioning things about a "bloody boyfriend" (ah yes, the English swear), he was sure his father was going to keep him in the house for the night. And he almost did. Apparently, though, Aston Rommen had never been far into his room- behind the initial wall was a large window, and, suit and all, Say had managed to get out and keep his appearance untouched.

His face hurt. His everything hurt. But he was glad to be there regardless; he didn't need to go crying to anyone about injuries. Just imagine football players- every time they broke a leg, did they whine at people? No. They didn't. Besides, he was fine. It wasn't that bad.

Rolling his eyes at the expression Genya gave him, he plopped himself down into the driver's seat and opened the door for his comrade. Briefly, he glanced at the wheel. An instance of déjà vu crossed his mind; fleeting, as always. He didn't remember too much of the accident. What he did remember was all the things people told him, and one of those things was how he had nearly been killed on a night such as this one. It didn't faze him, of course. So, as he waited for Genya to get in the car, he shrugged and kept his face cool, pulling at the cuffs on his dark red suit.

He had seen Genya's suit, before. To, specifically, be one to spite people, he wore a suit that nearly perfectly matched his own- except with the colors flipped. For his tux, a shade of deep garnet, and his shirt, an inviting jet black. And, of course, who wouldn't want accents? A bright white bowtie pulled it all together, accentuating his pale, almost pallid, complexion and styled auburn hair. Don't forget the knowing smirk. For the moment, though, he had a sweatshirt pulled over his clothes. Why would he want to look at them? They were too high-end for his tastes.

What is he doing?

Turning the keys in his car- and briefly flinching at the sputtering engine- Say pulled himself back out of the car and sat on the hood, staring at Genya. "You're coming. But y'now I could probably leave ya here, standing out in the- what? Rain? Almost-rain? I dunno, but it looks like there are clouds out, and you'd be missing the time of your life. And hey, what do ya have to be worried about, huh?" He didn't want to point out the obvious mishap from the previous year, as noted by others who'd called themself "friends", but that was only a small error, in his head.

What were the chances it'd happen on the same night two years in a row?

Genya Hiei Hikari | 18 | Masc | Demi+Ambi | Mentions; Tarsay

Genya stood almost awkwardly at the sidewalk in front of his apartment building, by Tarsay’s parked Toyota. His clothing felt too tight, even though he knew he was technically wearing a size or two bigger than what his size apparently was. It’d been a compromise, the only way to actually manage to get him to buy an outfit to begin with… Why was he even doing this?

--

You coming, Gen?

--

They looked over at their friend, rolling their eyes at his grin. That was why, he supposed. Not by choice, that was certain. Say had come over earlier, Genya hadn’t been answering any messages on whether or not they were ready to go. They hadn’t been. They still weren’t. When Rom had arrived, they’d argued- Not seriously, never really seriously. Genya had gotten anxious about the clothing they’d bought in advance not fitting him. Even though they’d bought it in at least one size bigger than what Say had been trying to get him to buy it in.

--

He scowled at the idea of getting into the car. The two had been planning to go for a while, Genya had thought he was prepared… He wasn’t so sure he was now though. There’d be so many people, so many eyes, and so much food… Today wasn’t a bad day. It hadn’t been a bad day. But the thought of being around that many sweets right now, was debilitating. Inhibiting. Anxiety inducing. And nauseating.

--

He wiped his hands on his dress pants, almost ashamed as he watched Say get into the driver seat with ease. He hadn’t been in the accident. Genya had no reason to be stalling in getting into a vehicle. Other than that would mean that it was final and that they were going. Which it already was! They had a suit, they were wearing the suit, Tarsay was waiting on them, and it was time to leave! Part of them still wanted to retreat back into their apartment, call off the plan- But the tow had already argued this.

--

Plus… It’d be a waste of his suit, right? Of the money used to buy the suit… A blood red Victorian shirt, long sleeves. A vantablack Victorian vest, perfectly gothic. Black dress pants. Deep red dress shoes. Their black horn-rimmed glasses. Their black lace choker with a blood moon pendant. Black nails that had red glitter like stars with them for once. Wine purple industrial earring at their left, the only memoriam to their favorite color, and red stud lobe earrings for either. It was an outfit Genya had been saving up for throughout the year since Tarsay and him had decided to actually attend. To not wear it… There was no other occasion he’d ever get to wear it at, it was practically now or never. It’d be a complete waste of a perfectly gothic formal fit… Though, on him…

--

He slammed the brakes on that train of thought. Today hadn’t been a bad day, Genya wasn’t going to let it become a bad night. There was no reason to be thinking like that right now. They were an adult now, he’d technically been one for most of the school year even. He wasn’t some.. He didn’t even have it that bad! Things were fine! He was fine! He’d moved out, got an apartment, had a good friendship with Tarsay, had a job as a cashier at a gas station, and he was going to go to college for photography and english! There was no reason for him to care about there being food at what was basically a party! Of course, there would be food!

--

You're coming. But y'know I could probably leave ya here, standing out in the- what? Rain? Almost-rain? I dunno, but it looks like there are clouds out, and you'd be missing the time of your life. And hey, what do ya have to be worried about, huh?

--

Genya’s eyes snapped back to Tarsay sitting on the car hood, and they were left wondering when they’d closed in the first place. He sighed, took a deep breath, and gave a slight smile. When they spoke, their tone was cryptic. Vague. The tone that could at this point be seen as a warning of poetry reference. “Nothing except the forever vague boundaries of life and death. But I assume you meant about tonight specifically and not just worries that come everyday? Then perhaps the worry of ruining the night with a melancholic mood? Or of causing people to strike a chord deep within a reckless card? Or, perhaps most simply, of what now may seem to be but a dream to our present existence? There is plenty to worry over, but to think over them too much would destroy one’s mind.” Genya paused, thinking for a moment before speaking again, tone more casual, if not slightly still cryptic. “So let’s allow it to wander, as we depart, yeah?

--

It was always fun to see how many references someone could find when talking to him. Especially when they had a chance to twist multiple into a sort of speech. He rarely did them, mostly only with Tarsay because he’d never really seemed to mind. Besides, it certainly helped to take his own mind off things, and to boost his confidence enough to walk over and get into the Toyota.
