What is the use of the div tag?

I remember being able to create colored boxes with borders and what not on other websites using the div tag, but can that work here? If not, what is its use?

It doesn't really do anything usable for you.. So you can ignore that. There is some backend coding that does stuff with it. But from a standpoint of creating new posts, it won't do anything for you.
