Nyru

Appearance Description: Small wolf with white, black, grey, and brown designs. He often paints himself with religious symbols and is adorned with many accessories of religious importance to him. His front leg is covered in a large scar from his fight with Kairos, and his right back leg is lame, with a large scar. He also has a large scar across his face, where a large chunk of his lip is missing on the right side of his face revealing his teeth, and he is blind out of his right eye.

Build: Extremely small frame, pretty much no muscle, bony and thin build.

Voice: Nyru’s voice is nasal and small, but filled with the authority of his Flame when performing religious chants.

Scent: Smells of smoke and hare, his favorite prey. His scent also has hints of the berries and herbs he uses to heal and make dyes.

Accessories: Blue-jay feathers to symbolize Flamekeeper rank. He also has cardinal feathers on his tail, a bear claw necklace, and bead(made of dyed bones) bracelets around his paws. Wears a ceremonial bone mask with red designs and black feathers surrounding it like a mane on special occasions. Golden rings around his left legs he traded with Vulcan(loner who can craft with metal) for dyed beads of bone.

Personality:

- Faithful/dedicated: Nyru believes in The Flame with complete dedication. He spends his time making sacrifices, speaking to the Fallen Haihefas, performing medic duties, and documenting major events of Fenguard, as well as reading the old manuscripts(bones carved with their ancient language using their fangs) and passing on stories to juveniles, and pups.

- Responsible/reliable: After his betrayal of Fenguard with Kiona, Nyru has retired to complete dedication to his role. He spends days reading religious and medical texts, documenting his progress on creating new treatments and more efficient ways to speak with the Fallen Haihefas.

- Submissive/anti-social: Because of the shame he has for his affair with Kiona, Nyru tends to spend all of his time in his caves. He rarely speaks to others unless at a pack meeting, where he gives his professional opinion. Sometimes he gets help from pups and omegas in finding specific plants and herbs, as he is unable to travel far distances.

- Wise/educated: because he spends so much time speaking to their ancestors and reading the ancient manuscripts, Nyru has a lot of knowledge about the past, medicine, tradition, and religious rituals.

- Caring/kind: Nyru has a naturally kind personality, which is why healing had always appealed to him. Because of his lack of prowess in fighting, he never gained an affinity for power and remained untouched by greed or ambition.

History:

Nyru was born in Fenguard and never quite fit in because of his lack of size and strength. He fit in more with the Omegas than anyone else, but couldn’t imagine living that lifestyle. However, his interest in religion was sparked when he saw Mitsu perform a healing ritual for the first time. Seeing his fondness for such traditions, Mitsu spoke to Elohim and was granted permission to take Nyru in and teach him the ancient language, as well as how to read, write, heal, and perform rituals and sacrifices. He quickly gained a knack for the subject, and his enthusiasm for learning new things led him to quickly surpass Mitsu’s knowledge of Fenguard’s history, as well as healing and religion. However, a particularly bad year of Mange caused an unmatched number of deaths in the pack when he was only a year old, killing both Mitsu and his mother.

Convinced he should have found a better cure, Nyru didn’t leave his cave for days. the new Flamekeeper, he was overtaken with guilt at the idea that he couldn’t save his mother and his mentor, the two people who meant the most to him. He no longer found refuge in the ancient manuscripts, and had no motivation to continue his religious duties. Instead, he found refuge in Kiona, a wolf his age who was both strong and beautiful, two things he was not. And yet, she loved him, and because of this, he forgot his guilt around her. They spent more time together, and, knowing it was against the pack’s rules, Nyru continued to see Kiona in secret. Together they became the lights of each other's lives.

One day, she came to him and revealed that she was pregnant with his child. Panicking, she asked him to run away from the pack with him, but he knew that if he did, the guilt would eat him alive. With no Flamekeeper, there would be nobody to protect the pack from disease, and all of the religious traditions he had been taught would be lost. He told her that he couldn’t run from Fenguard, and, although she understood, he knew she blamed him for what was happening. Together, they decided that she should run. If it was found out that the child was Nyru’s, both Kiona and the child’s lives would be in jeopardy. However, if the father was a loner, she would be banished, and able to live out the rest of her life with another pack or as a loner. She agreed, and ran.

When the pack found out, they were enraged. Her name was cursed and they decreed that, if seen again in their territory, Kiona would be subject to death. Her brother, however, had seen Nyru and Kiona together, and grew enraged. Kairos(her brother) went to Elohim, and told him that the child wasn’t a loner, but Nyru’s, and that he had betrayed the pack. Because they couldn’t kill Nyru, Elohim decreed that Kairos would be the one to punish Nyru, as it was his sister, and his family. After the fight, he was left bleeding on the ground outside of his cave, barely able to drag himself to shelter. Tending to his own wounds, Nyru didn’t leave his cave for two months. He lowered his head in shame when spoken to, avoided contact with anyone, and asked that the rabbit that was brought to him every day by hunters be left outside the cave, so he didn’t have to speak to anyone unless they needed him as a medic. He never fully healed from Kairos’ attack, and remained lame in his back right foot, as well as bearing many scars, and becoming blind in his right eye.

A year later, his father was killed in a territory skirmish, but as they hadn’t spoken since the incident with Kiona, Nyru barely grieved.

Giving up hope of redemtion in the eys of his pack, Nyru decided he would spend the rest of his life serving as a Flamekeeper and advancing the knowledge of medicine and the spiritual rituals of Fenguard. He believes that in having forsaken the rules of his pack he dishonored the gods and was the reason Kiona would die outside of Fenguard's ranks.

Overlooked the Ascension of Zoran and the mentorship of Key.

Future:

Overlooks Key's Ascension to Heda and guides her in her journey to unite the four packs. Successfully helps in the forming of the coalition and has yet to choose a second.
