Andy, you could put it into view>den card explore or den card stats then just under it at the top it'll tell you how many wolves you have. Then scrolling down to the very bottom it'll tell you how many slots are open

I put my pack ID into trading post and then add up the number of results + number of empty spaces at the bottom of my den.

i like that idea, maybe soon the watering hole completetly dries up and they have to move to find a new one, and they maybe run into a particularly hostile rouge group

Yeah im thinking of a male coalition maybe? Once we find the new watering hole since the current one is drying up so there will likely be undiscovered rouge lions about in the new area

yeah we may have to start replacing some roles and/or start killing off some of the characters that haven't been active, there has only been a select few posting
