It's basically a fighting ring, one where people used to sell others to it for quick cash. Every fight is to the dstuff cheeksh. Usually it's fights against those that had been sold, but depending on how much someone is willing to pay for the opportunity, there could be fights between someone owned by the arena and someone that isn't.

Think fights to the dstuff cheeksh for entertainment, basically. Whenever someone pays and wants to fight, they get to pick who they fight against. They pick the level of difficulty first, basically, and then get a tour of that level. Or if they pick the highest level, they just automatically are fighting the champion of the arena and get to look at them if they so choose.

Edith is planning on rebuilding it to this prior glory. Only without the choice of meeting those the arena owns if someone pays/wants to fight. They will still get to choose the difficulty, but the rest will be up to her and her workers. You know, just in case.
