Declan was born in Kaer Rhûn, Velukar, Vareth Oss. He is purebred Varen, being a Veinheir of the Crowned Root, his father, the monarch of the realm.

Appearance

Declan stands around the 6’1 to 6’3 range with hazel eyes and fluffy brown hair. Sometimes, ever so seldomly, it will be combed back neatly, which is often combined with a disgruntled look on his face. He has a large scar across his left cheek which curves, as if a large cat such as a cougar sliced it and it scarred. He has a fairly thick and muscular build, appearing stronger and more physically useful than the average person at the academy, likely due to his background. He wears a lot of earthen, casual tones, not having too much of a favorable opinion toward the academy uniforms and often finding every excuse to slip out of it.

Personality

While Declan is technically a master healer by all accounts of the phrase, he lacks bedside manner to a substantial degree. He recognizes that healing has a cost, disrupting the balance of things and creating waves of entropy across the universe. Therefore, he is something of a sly trickster, never doing things for others without a cost. He has been hardened from absorbing the pain of others, though this does not stop him from having a sense of humor. In fact, he has an odd way of taking everything and nothing seriously at the same time. His personality metrics are 5w4 ENTP-A.

Abilities

Declan’s main power is burden transference. This means he can take someone’s ailment and cast it elsewhere, whether into himself, the earth, or someone else. However, this comes at a cost, as casting too much into the earth causes irreparable damage and moral horror.

Another ability he has is seismic pulse. He can send vibrations through the ground to detect footsteps, create damage through falling rocks or other earth, trigger cave-ins, and rupture bones internally. However, this causes migraines, nosebleeds, and temporary deafness.

Declan can also engage in flesh grafting, meaning he can merge two biological entities together. He is able to replace limbs and organs, merge individuals together, create ritual guardians, and bind dying people together to conserve life. However, this isn’t always successful, and there are psychological effects to the bind that remain between the two individuals forever.

He also has gravetouch, meaning he can touch remains or the earth where someone died and collect traces of their memories, cause of death, emotional residue, and lingering curses. However, this opens him up to a variety of susceptibilities to dark magic including hauntings and catching dark omens.

He is also able to engage in the stoneheart rite, meaning he can create a suppression of emotion in himself or others. However, the emotions don’t disappear, they accumulate, meaning that leaving them pent up for too long can become catastrophic.

Finally, he can perform pollen hexes, utilizing different strains of sacred spores and pollens to create magical effects such as sleep, truthfulness, euphoria, memory loss, obedience, and loss of inhibition. However, these can be dangerous and must be used with caution.

Relationship to Love Interest

Declan knows of Theo’s kingdom because, well, everyone does. Aethelgard is known for its malevolence, violence, and underhanded dealings with other kingdoms. While everyone is supposed to hate this, Declan has always been fascinated and believed there was more to the kingdom than all of the legends and lore. Despite this, the far distance between Kaer Rhûn, situated in the southwestern portion of Vareth Oss, and the western border of Aethelgard meant that Declan never had much of a reason to cross the dangerous and unforgiving mountain range separating the two realms. He has never met, nor does he know of Theo, because the Xytaian people are known to live–and reign–in the shadows, away from the public eye.
