Rudd wandered through the forest, careful not to let his guard down but otherwise letting his feet carry him where they may. His mind drifted, running over the recent events: the first appearance of the hybrids, their initial acceptance, the exile–”betrayal” some had called it–and of course, the death of his predecessor. Though he could not pin the cause, he had the feeling that something was brewing. Dissatisfaction was in the air, obscuring the future like a thick fog. Only time would tell what was yet to come. How irritating. Worse, he did not know where each individual stood, and that could come to a question of loyalty. The hybrid problem needed to be dealt with. That was the only certainty he could draw. Rudd ran his tongue over his teeth, as finishing a rather unsatisfying meal. Resolving to untangle this mess he inherited, he turned and began heading back to the heart of Dawn.
