You can purchase Apples for Mush by heading to Realm > Marketplace > Barter, under "Search". They're currently 800 mush apiece.

If you build up your wolves and explore consistently, you should be able to scrape up enough mush to purchase apples.

Currently, I'd recommend waiting on getting new wolves until your wolves have at least their Battle and Resolve stats maxed out.
