A semi-literate to literate Mage x Templar roleplay

⚔︎

A delicate battle between good versus evil; corrupt versus pure; strong versus stronger, all pining for the same justice and power to better their own people. Hatred and justified fear is what had caused the war against the Mages in Stokhaven two years ago, after the King was murdered by his trusted Mage advisor, whom had been possessed by a very powerful demon. Before then, the societal opinion on Mage freedom was never good, but it had rapidly plummeted to an all time low after the brutal murder took place. The vast majority of the public finds Mages to be terrifying, unnaturally strong creatures that should not exist in this world, for they are naturally very prone to demonic corruption due to their magical connection. Others preach in the shadows that the Mages did not choose their fate, and that they do not deserve to be encaptured and imprisoned simply for just existing and in fear that they may or may not do something bad. Templars, on the other hand, the Mage capturers and and Stokhaven's mighty protectors, have a fairly positive public opinion, though many complain that they are given too many liberties, especially how some Templars seem to believe that they are above the law. The murdering of King Percival shattered any chance of peace in this day in age.
_______________________________________________
The Circle Tower of Stokhaven
The Circle Tower is where all captured Mages are sent to live out the rest of their days under the watchful, protective eye of the Templars. It's an enormous fortress that can be seen from every point in Stokhaven, like it is an all seeing beacon above the rest. It's been housing mages for around fifty years now, around the time that Stokhaven started to become a more populated location. The Circle Tower is an impossibly high, gloomy stone tower, located out in the middle of the vast Lake Percival. It takes a half an hour by boat to reach the single dock to enter in through the single entrance of the fortress, where a slew of guardsmen wait like watchful gargoyles. The Circle Tower is enormous and is filled with great circular halls and a centralized staircase that lead up the floors. There are thirteen floors with high ceilings, but only seven will be used throughout this roleplay and consist of the mess hall, the Templar barricks, the Mage sleeping quarters, the library, the meeting room, the training room, and the lounge. The other floors are mostly for storage or for other Mages to sleep in that are not going to be a part of this story. The Tower is home to children, teen, adult, and elderly Mages, and an ample crew of Templars are always in rotation to keep them at bay.
The Tower is not a bad place to live for some, but others crave adventure on the outside. The Knight-Commander is kindhearted enough to allow the Mages to read, to teach lessons, to play games, to sing and paint, and of course to socialize with one another. In the lounge, at the absolute highest point of the tower, the room has glass panes in the ceiling to bring in much needed natural light, and the outskirts of the room are adorned with beautiful, medicinal and edible herbs. On one end of the enormous room are tables to sit and talk or play games at, and on the other end are two offices that face one another, where the Grand Enchanter and the Knight-Commander each have their private quarters. They do not always have to be stationed at their room, but it is always the first place one looks when searching for either of them.
Aside from the lounge, the training room is another favorite place for Mages to spend time at. Here, in a room reinforced by strange magic, Mages can give lessons and practice controlling their elemental force. There are numerous targets scattered around the room for them to practice hitting, and there is a small platform for a teacher to stand on when instructing. It's important for a Mage to deeply understand their curse, in order to keep from accidental mishaps.
...
How it functions
The Templars in the Tower constantly survey the Mages to watch for signs of possession. Templars and Mages may converse, though it is unwise for a Templar to build a relationship with a Mage, for a friendship may lessen their reaction time in killing a possessed Mage that they have bonded with. A possessed Mage can slaughter hundreds of others if they are not killed quickly, so Templars need to be fast, agile, and ready to kill on a moments notice. Their years of intense training mixed with their Templar abilities have made them as ready as anyone could ever be to face a demon.
The day typically starts with the morning meeting, where the First Enchanter meets with the Knight-Commander to have a private conversation regarding moral, how each faction is doing, and if adjustments need to be made. They are always civil, though their conversations may be tense or petty, depending on the individual's personality. The Enchanter and the Knight-Captain disperse the Knight-Commander's orders after this meeting if there are any changes that must be made. The Knight-Commander or the Knight-Captain will tell the Circle Templars where to be positioned throughout the day, or if they need to pay close attention to a certain individual. The Bounty Templars will only return once every three to five days to The Circle, where they will rest, eat, bathe, and leave again to explore after debriefing the Knight-Commander or Knight-Captain. If they've managed to capture a Mage, they will return immediately with them and standby while the Mage is taken into custody. Bounty Templars must do everything that they can to bring a Mage in alive, but hostiles are allowed to be killed on sight if they do not come willingly. There have been rumors in the past that a few crooked Bountry Templars had gone around to simply slaughter any Mage they encountered in Stokhaven before trying to encapture them, so it does understandably raise tensions.
_______________________________________________
The Land of Stokhaven
Stokhaven is the largest city in Stonekirk, the country that this roleplay is taking place. Stokhaven is comprised of a busy downtown district, the outskirts, where thugs tend to hang around the numerous pubs, the docks, the forest, and Lake Percival, where The Circle Tower is located. Stokhaven is the Northernmost city in Stonekirk, and it's for the toughest of the tough; they have the harshest winters and rainy summers, and everything around them is gray and mountainous. It's difficult to get anywhere inside of the downtown district, where the Castle of Stokhaven is postioned directly in the middle of, if you're not royalty. Royal Guards will notify the Knight-Commander if they see Mage activity, so Mages do not tend to travel into the depths of the city. Instead, it is better for them to seek shelter in the outskirt district or in the wilderness. Neither are safe, but it may be safer for them than inside of the Circle.
_______________________________________________
The Nature of the War
The war does not effect the day-to-day for the commoners of Stokhaven, not usually anyway. Fights will occasionally break out on the street from pro-Mage or pro-Templar activists, but the city guards do a well enough job at keeping any serious fighting at bay. Occasionally, a citizen will smuggle a Mage into their possession to help them avoid being captured, or maybe their supplies will be stolen by a Mage, but they usually don't get too involved with the shambles of it all unless a Mage is corrupted or if the Templars need a surplus of weapons, which can make blacksmiths extremely overworked.
Living peacefully as a Mage during the war is impossible. An Apostate will always be on the run to keep their freedom, and a Circle Mage will always be watched with skepticism.
Being a Templar during the war is a tough life as well. Growing up to only be used as a weapon against magic is one thing, but actually taking down Mages is another thing all together. It's laborous and challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally, and Templars have been known to snap in the past from the pressure of it all.
_______________________________________________
What Makes Mages so Bad?
Anyone can be born a Mage, but children have a higher chance of being born with magic if one or both of their parents has the curse. A Mage is still human, but in the way that their magic moves from their body and manifests outward is not. Some say that it is a curse and some say that it is a blessing from the Maker, but nobody knows exactly how Mages use their powers. Wherever their powers stem from also subjects them to demonic harassment, where a Mage must endure and repent in order to not become possessed. Demons are nameless beasts that tend to haunt the nightmares of Mages, but also will bribe a Mage to take over for them when the Mage is facing extreme sadness or anger. The demons are a mental beast and nobody but the Mage can feel their internal presence. They do not appear physically unless a Mage becomes possessed. They communicate through a Mage's mind with pictures of what the Mage could become if they dropped their guards and allowed the demon to take over their mind. The demons are always lying and it is public fact that trusting a demon will get you nowhere but killed, but the demons know how to tempt when a Mage is in their worst moments.
A possessed Mage is a feral monster. Instead of a human form, their body is immediately mutated into a horrid, towering beast with long fangs and crimson scales. They are terrifying, and their magic powers are heightened. Templars will immediately kill a possessed mage on sight, no doubts about it, and no questions asked. Being possessed is currently irreversible, and there is no reasoning with a demon.
_______________________________________________
What Makes Templars so Good?
Templars are recruited around the age of ten, though some may arrive sooner and some may arrive slightly later. They are raised by senior, veteran Templars to instill their beliefs and their rigorous training on them from a very impressionable age. The Templars typically go through ten years of unimaginably difficult trainings. Their very last test to prove their worth is done in secret up until it is happening, and takes place one at a time in a very cold, black dungeon. Veteran Templars sit the Templar-in-training down onto a seat and strap them into it. They then preform a ritual, which forces a demon to enter the Templar's mind. They must resist possession and fight inside of their mind to keep from becoming possessed. This final trial has a fifty percent success rate, but it is what grants the Templars the ability to fight and overpower both Mages and demons afterwards. They are tainted by the magic curse that Mages wield, but they cannot use it. Instead, it keeps them safe from being possessed or easily killed by a demon or Mage.
Nobody knows about this rite of passage, and Templars must vow to never speak of it again. It is an incredibly traumatic experience, and some never fully cope with what had happened to them. This will make some Templars more empathetic towards Mages, who have lesser but frequent encounters with demons, but will also make other Templars convinced that Mages are too vulnerable to possession and that they should simply be slaughtered to keep from trouble in the future. This forced glimpse of dealing with magic and demons can make some Templars sense when they are around a Mage, for they share the same connection, but this is a rare occurance.

The Mages

⚔︎

Cursed at birth, a Mage is feared for their ability to bend elements to their will. A Mage is born with the ability to control fire, water, ground, air, ice, or lightning, which manifests from their fingertips. Mages tend to use a staff, a magical weapon that helps them channel their abilities to direct their elemental force, but an Enchanter can perfectly direct their elemental power without the need of a tool. Mages are incredibly strong, but are always at higher risk of demonic corruption. Demons can sense the weak and fragile, and they try to internally persuade the Mage with images of what they could be if they would just give into the corruption. Experienced Mages can get to the point where they can tune demons out almost entirely, except for the occasional nightmare, but some of the Mages that have not had the time in the Circle to learn from others to do still struggle with repenting daily. Struggling can vastly depend on the individual, but no mage goes entirely without temptation. It is preached by the vast majority of Templars and Mages that demonic possession is not a means to get help, but a means to an end.
_______________________________________________
The Mage Hierarchy
The most powerful Mage is The First Enchanter, who represents the will of all the Circle Mages and has all of their best interests in mind. The First Enchanter does not overpower any Templar, but it is the highest rank that a Mage can achieve both inside and outside of the Tower. Their second in command, the Enchanter, is their go-to for aid and information. The Enchanter is the second most powerful Mage in the Circle Tower and would become the next First Enchanter if something should happen to their leader. A High Mage is in between Enchanter and Mage level, where they are much more in control of their elemental force and their risk of demonic possession. Should anything happen to one of their superiors, a vote will be casted to choose which High Mage should become the next Enchanter. A Mage is essentially a lesser High Mage, who are still extremely powerful, but are not quite to the level of their superiors. In time, as they hone in on their abilities, a Mage can climb the ranks. All Mages can become a teacher, a herbalist, a chef, an artist, a singer, a storyteller, or more, for entertainment and fulfillment inside of the Tower. An Apostate is a rogue Mage that has not been captured by a Templar and is still loose on the outside. Their circumstances can vastly differ, but all know that they are, in some shape and form, being actively hunted.

Mage Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Mages can control one of the elements listed above. This element will shoot from their fingertips whenever they will it (ie., a fireball, a lighting rod, icicles, etc.). Novices that have not honed in their skills have trouble controlling when their magic will lash out. The more a Mage has studied, the stronger their force can become.
+ Mages are human, so their individual physical, mental, and emotional strengths can vary. Typically, a Mage is lithe and effortless on their feet, and are quite fast and agile.
- Mages are prone to nightmares, where demons will bring up horrible memories in hopes that the Mage will give into their promises to make the memories go away.
- Mages have to resist corruption. In highly emotional moments, demons manifest in their mind and will try to silently persuade a Mage to give them control. If a Mage succumbs, they will be turned into a feral beast, and they will be killed immediately.

The Templar Order

⚔︎

Sworn to be heroes of the people, the Templar Order was created to defend all of mankind against the horrible threat of both unbridled mages and demon possession. Often enlisted as children, the Templar is provided with very strict and very brutal training. A Templar must be prepared to see and deal with the worst of what mages can become, and they must be capable of killing without hesitation.
_______________________________________________
The Templar Order Hierarchy
The Knight-Commander is the overarching leader of all mages and templars alike. As the highest title both in and outside of the tower, he is to keep everything and everybody in line. Everyone in the land knows his name and has some predetermined love or hatred for him. His duty is highly stressful, but he has the longest amount of time spent in the Order out of all of the Templars in the Tower, and he has the most intensive training to preform to the high standards that are required of a Knight-Commander. If anything should happen to him, his second in command, the Knight-Captain, would immediately replace him, and a replacement Knight-Captain would be voted upon by all Templars. A Knight-Captain's Duty is to make sure that the Knight-Commander's orders are strictly followed and that all Templars are following orders and sticking to certain patrols. The Knight-Captain may meet with the Enchanters to discuss enrichment or take note of what imported goods the Tower needs to maintain relative peace. Circle Templars are the meat of the Templar hierarchy, and the most versatile. They are well-trained and always studying the Mages under their care. Additionally, they will be given ample duties to attented to throughout their shifts. A Bounty Templar spends the majority of their time on the outside. They function like investigators, searching for signs of Apostate Mages in the city and in the forest. All Templars get downtime, where they may partake in festivities amongst themselves, or if requested, take a day or two leave from the Tower to enjoy the city.

_______________________________________________
Templar Strengths and Weaknesses
+ Templars have been trained to be highly adaptable to their environments and situations. Ten years of physical, emotional, and mental training has made them extremely versatile for any situation that they face.
+ Extremely physically strong. A Templar is at peak physical fitness and is physically strong on their own. Packing on their armor and their weapon of choice, and a Templar is nearly an unstoppable force.
+ On very rare occasion, some Templars can have subtle feelings that a stranger is a Mage, because of their forced connection with demons during the end of their Templar training. This opens their mind up slightly to the realm that grants Mages their powers, and they can feel the connection to that realm inside of some strangers.
- Because of their traumatic training, some Templars never cope with what they've gone through. Many feel as though they were tricked or manipulated into joining. Because of this, a Templar may have a very tough time accepting what they've been though.
- When their purpose is to kill when needed or on command, some Templars have a tough time feeling emotions. Some are so unemotionally unavailable that they may never feel like more than just a weapon.
- A Templar is physically stronger than a Mage, but they still get hurt from a Mage's powers. While a fireball may burn a civilian alive and only slightly burn a Templar, they still feel it, and it still can hurt a lot.
= A Templar is usually not as physically strong as a demon in brute force, but they can usually take down a possessed mage by themself or with the help of a few others. In the extremely rare chance that an Enchanter would become possessed, it may take a whole squad of all of ten or more Templars to take down the beast. A demon could certainly kill a Templar if it catches them off guard.

⚔︎

More information may be added to your joining form, this is just the minimum required to really get a feel for each character. Character art is allowed for a visual, but does not replace the need to fill in the appearance section of your form.
Please note that characters should not have existing crushes coming into the roleplay. I greatly prefer when they form naturally. Characters are allowed to have pre-existing, short-lived friendships from time spent training or time spent on the run, but no predestined romantic relationships, please.

The Rules

⚔︎

+ Standard game rules apply.
+ This is a literate roleplay. Please keep in mind that I am seeking participants than can write several solid sentences per reply.
+ The plot will thicken. I will add in drama when needed to move the plot along. I already have big ideas in mind.
+ While every character in this is basically overpowered already, please stick to the hierarchy outline. A Mage will never overpower the Grand Enchanter or the Knight-Commander. Realistic flaws should be present.
+ Please no predetermined romantic relationships. One of my favorite things about roleplaying is seeing how characters bond naturally, without being forced into immediate relationships.
+ This is a fantasy and medieval setting. There won't be phones, guns, or anything of the like. The entire tower is lit by magical torches and windows that are too small to fit through.
+ In story, romances between Templars and Mages are forbidden. Out of story, romances between Templars and Mages are allowed, but please understand that this is a huge deal for both people involved, and that if they were caught, it could potentially have deadly consequences
+ Appearances should be realistic to the time. Dyed hair, unnatural eye colors, modern clothing, and modern makeup are not permitted.
+ Please limit the amount of NPC characters that you include in your posts, especially if they are reoccuring. You are welcome to add in segments about people interracting with your character, like shopkeepers, thugs, family members, etc., but if they are going to be constantly, directly involved in your character's life, it can get a bit confusing. Flashbacks and character history is absolutely fine, but it can get a little overwhelming when there's a lot of outside NPC-like characters to keep track of and how they pertain to the story.
+ Please do not play characters that romance each other. You are welcome to have had your characters be exs, but it can be lonely roleplaying a love story by yourself.
+ Please have more than one character. In the event that a character dies, you would still have a character to play as.
+ More rules may be added here later

[ picrew 1564386 ]
Name: Malachi Elias Sterling IIII.
Refered to as: Knight-Commander || Commander Malachi.
Age: Thirty-two.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Heterosexual & Monogamous.
Crush: That would be inappropriate.
Love Interest: While a Knight-Commander takes no vows of celibacy, Malachi obstains from relationships for his own good.
Spouse: A distant daydream. Had his life gone differently, maybe he would have been married with children by now.
Family: An older sister and a mother. He doesn't write them letters as often as he should. They live together out in the Stokhaven woodlands in a little log cabin.
Rank: Knight-Commander of the Templar Order.
Weapon of Choice: A single-handed sword is his preference, though he is exceptional in all weaponry, just like every other Templar. He uses an elaborate golden-hilted sword with ornate engravings that is passed down from one Knight-Commander to another. His favorite weapon to use is a crossbow, but such long-range weapons are unneeded in the Tower. Still, he'd love to shoot one again.
Thoughts on Mages: Complicated, and they seem to change day by day. As the highest ranking Templar in Stokhaven, he has seen some extremely traumatic events unfold in his time, and feels that Mages are too powerful to be left to roam free without any precautions taken. Though, as he sits in the top of the Tower, he can't help but feel pity for everyone around him, confined for forever with him. The majority of people in the Tower are not bad, and he cannot help but imagine what their lives would be like, had they not been cursed at birth by magic.
Brief History: As the only son between his highly regarded battlemaiden mother and veteran Templar father, Malachi was taught the importance of duty and dicipline as soon as he was born. His parents were extremely strict, but had occasional moments of lightheartedness to express their love to him. They traveled often as a family to support his mother's guardsmen-like rank and for his father to train the next generation of Templars all throughout the country. Malachi was the closest with his elder sister, Maven, but they weren't given very much time to enjoy their childhood.
His father constantly encouraged Malachi to be excited about the Templar Order from the very moment he could begin to comprehend the dutiful life-binding career path, and on his eighth birthday, he was sent off to the Templar Order to take part in early childhood training at the insistence of his father. This cut Malachi's childhood off two years earlier than most Templars, and Malachi remembers very little about his life from outside of the Templar Order. Following in his father's footsteps, he climbed the ranks, and his natural will to lead made him the perfect person to bestow the duties of the Knight-Commander of Stokhaven on after his superior, Knight-Commander Conrad, passed away from sudden illness.
Malachi has been the acting Knight-Commander for two years at this point in time, unfortunately aligning with King Percival's death. People inside of the Tower generally have mixed feelings about him, but respect that he is not cruel or violent towards Mages needlessly, when other Circle Towers in other states and countries are rumored to be controlled by very brutal Knight-Commanders.
Personality:
+ Strict || Serious || Direct || Professional || Stoic +
A hard life can age a soul fast, and that was the case of Malachi Sterling. A naturally funny and outgoing child was crushed and forced to become a regal, powerful lion. He often has to fight back his true personality, what he feels he could be had he not become a Templar, and has a lot of internal struggles because of this. For now, he is extremely dutiful, strict, and professional. All of his conversations are direct and order-based, not necessairly open to forming deep-seeded relationships. His pokerface is unmatched, and Malachi has closed himself off from feeling emotionally at the present. He is very dedicated to the cause and to his position, and is a pillar of strength for all to lean on.
Appearance:
+ 6'3" || Golden Hair || Scarred Face || Handsome || Regal +
Malachi has a golden mane of wavy, thick hair on the top of his head and dark brows below them. Rusty brown, tired eyes peer out from short brown lashes, and his narrow cheekbones and strong jaw are always shaved down to be crisp and presentable. His face notably has two large scars; a verticle slit over his lip and a crescent moon-shaped cut along his cheekbone that swoops up to his temple. They were earned during his time spent as a Bounty Templar, where he was sliced by dagger wielded by a very drunken Mage. The wounds could have been healed up by a talented Mage, but he instead had poorly stitched them up himself in fear of trusting any form of magic, and the gashes left lingering scars as a result.
Malachi has a handsome, gentlemanly way about him that adds to his physical charm, and carries himself with profound authority. He dresses daily in the Knight-Commander's distinct silver armor, with sword on his left hip and a black cloak overtop. His scent is a masculine combination of sandalwood and bergamont.
Other: It is very likely that Malachi has a professional relationship with the Grand Enchanter and all classes of the Templars, at the very least. If you would like to discuss Malachi's relationship with your character, we can do so in PMs or in the Discussion Thread. Please note that I'm not going to commit any of my characters to promised romantic relationships at this time, I like to see them form naturally in roleplay, but all of them are open to build a relationship with.

Name: Kellan Peter St. James.
Refered to as: Peter.
Age: Twenty-Two.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Heterosexual & Monogamous.
Crush: None, but open to it.
Love Interest: None, but would genuinely love to find a life partner and a best friend in her.
Spouse: None, he's been single his whole life. He's been too nervous in the past to have even talked with women very much. It's embarassing for him, really.
Family: An aunt and an uncle that raised him, and their two children. One of his cousins is Esmerelda (played by Ravensrun), a newly-captured Mage.
Rank: Bounty Templar.
Weapon of Choice: Single-handed sword, but like all Templars, he's trained to handle and use anything to his advantage.
Thoughts on Mages: Sympathetic, but conflicted. He feels horrible that Mages face so much hatred from the general public and wishes that there was a different law in place that would earn them their freedom. He understands that there are bad Mages, just like there are bad Templars, and finds it saddening that the good have to pay for the bad's actions.
Brief History: Peter is the son of an ex-royal, brothel whore and an unknown man. His mother was reported murdered shortly after he was born, likely owing a thug some coin, but he was already passed on to his mother's sister and her husband to raise as their own by then. They were responsible, serving as parents for him, and they raised him up with their own two children who were near enough in age to him. He spent much of his youth being bullied because of his short and lean frame, but his father figure would always try to settle him down. On one particularly bad night, after getting beaten by other boys in the town, his male guardian sat him down and expressed that he wanted Peter to follow in his footsteps, to become a Templar.
At ten, Peter left for the Order and began the rigorous, life-altering training. He struggled a lot, but prevailed the rituals and trials, and has earned his Bounty Templar status just as everyone else around him had. He likes the adventure that the position naturally offers, but he still feels bad about killing or capturing Mages, even after ten years of brutal training.
Personality:
+ Naive || Compassionate || Gentle || Patient +
Peter is one of the more meek and empathetic Templars in the order. He is very kind-spirited and will blindly place trust in others, which has blindsided him on more than once occasion when he's been backstabbed in response. The Bounty Templar is patient, gentle, and earnest, which makes him quite a good investigator when it comes to prying around for information on Apostates. He has a hard time raising his voice or speaking openly about things that bother him, and he much rather prefers following someone else's lead than making decisions for himself or others. He's very loyal and obedient to the Templars, but his softness could make him sway.
Appearance:
+ 5'9" || Lean || Chiseled Jawline || Ocean Blue Eyes || Button Nose +
Peter has an average-sized body that is lean and athletically-toned from his time spent traveling. His bright blue eyes are large and kind, and often depict his mood very clearly. He has sunkissed, freckly skin and dark, wavy hair that curls up into tighter ringlets when it's humid outside. He has some light facial hair that doesn't ever quite grow into a full beard or mustache, and above it, a large and round button nose that makes his angular face less intense.
Other: Peter does not know all of the Templars, it would be difficult to with the sheer amount there are. He may or may not have friends in the ranks, we can PM to discuss or chat in the Discussions Thread. He had become an official Templar last year, and was recently entrusted to serve as a Bounty Templar to scout outdoors. If you'd like to discuss existing friendships between Peter and your character, feel free to PM or post in the Discussions Thread.

Name: Luthias Quincy Vipont.
Refered to as: Knight-Captain Luthias.
Age: Twenty-eight.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Bisexual.
Crush: None. Ew.
Love Interest: Nah, emotions aren't really his game.
Spouse: That idea is repulsive.
Family: Nobody. Maybe that's why he's so hateful towards everybody.
Rank: Knight-Captain of the Templar Order.
Weapon of Choice: Luthias has a love for pretty, small things, so naturally he is fascinated by daggers. He still wields the standard Templar single-handed sword though on his hip.
Thoughts on Mages: Disgusting. Why do we even allow them to live? They're monsters. They're filth. They're not even human anymore. They're like little animals that nobody wants anymore.
Brief History: Son of a Mage man and a royal guardsman woman, Luthias was despised from the very beginning from society. His mother lost her status for succumbing to a Mage and was cast aside, and his father had been killed by Bounty Templars before Luthias could even remember him. He and his mother moved to Stokhaven shortly after he was born, where he immediately caught a pneumonia-like infection and nearly died as a toddler, but had been healed by a Mage at his mother's insistance. His mother was a hardcore Mage activist, and spent almost every day running with Apostates. While their life was very nomadic, running around Stokhaven's wilderness day by day, they did have a little shack out in the woods that they'd return to every so often to rest at. Luthias hated his mother for focusing so much attention on Mages, and had despised her and them for it. At thirteen, a few years later than a normal Templar enlisted in the Order, he had run away to do so. His mother was beyond heartbroken, but Luthias wanted revenge of some sort, and had gone off to find it. He makes a great Templar, but is cold and calloused. Many speculate that he is one of the Templars rumored to kill Mages in the Tower for fun when he can get them alone.
Personality:
+ Bitter || Hateful || Smug || Condescending || Arrogant +
There's very few positive things to say about Luthias. Nobody ever compliments him on his personality, aside from perhaps his work ethic and natural hate-driven passion. At his core, he is spiteful and domineering, and has an attitude that can never be pleased that can drive people mad if they spend too much time around him. He has a cocky arrogance to him and always wears an air of superiority in his movements. He isn't the strongest Templar in the Order, but he's extremely smart. If he wasn't so hateful towards Mages, he would make for a wise Knight-Commander some day.
Appearance:
+ 6'1" || Lanky || Long Features || Cold Blue Eyes || Tiny Mustache +
Luthias' features are all exaggerated and long, with an oval-shaped face, large chin, needly nose, and beady eyes. He has very thick brows with strong arches, and usually has small whisps of a mustache growing above his upper lip. His hair is nearly a perfect match in shade, and is pin straight and usually dusted neatly off to one side. While his thin lips are usually naturally pursed and brows are usually downturned into a frown, his most hateful feature is his eyes. Luthias' blue eyes hold very little emotion in them, almost frighteningly little. It seems as though he can say or do horrible things, but nothing will ever spark feeling in those eyes of his.
Other: Literally everyone can hate guy. If you really want to be friends with him, we can discuss it. He would never have formed a friendship with a Mage, though.

[ picrew 684058 ]
Name: Cyrus Keegan Auberon.
Aliases: Many, in order to keep from leaving a paper trail for Templars to follow. His current is Augustus Flint, but he will introduce himself as Cyrus to other Mages if he finds them to be trustworthy.
Age: Twenty-Six.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Heterosexual & Monogamous.
Crush: None. He is not actively looking to fall in love, but sometimes love finds a way.
Love Interest: None. It would really take someone special for him to consider love at a time like this.
Spouse: He isn't sure if that is even a possibility anymore. He's really just given up on the idea of love at this stage. Being on the run isn't really the best time to fall for someone.
Family: An older brother, a younger sister, and unhappily married parents. He doesn't talk to any of them anymore. He cannot risk it.
Rank: Apostate Mage.
Elemental: Fire Mage.
Thoughts on Templars: There are very few things that Cyrus hates more than a Templar. He sees the whole movement and anyone who supports them as heartless monsters. Why should he be locked away for ever, just because people are scared of what he is? He didn't choose this life for himself, so he sees no reason as to why he should be inprisoned because of being a Mage.
Brief History: Cyrus and his family were farmers that lived out in the rural countryside of a lesser village. Life was simple but laborious for young Cyrus and his elder brother, who had to work harder than most children should once their father became addicted to gambling and alcohol. Cyrus found out that he was a Mage at the age of fourteen, when he set his abusive father on fire. The man struck him with a fire poker rod across he face, which is what had caused the deep gashing scar from the edge of his lip to the end of his cheekbone. From that night onward, Cyrus has been on the run. He's traveled all the way from the south of the country to the North, to Stokhaven, where he occasionally rents a room in the thuggish lower district or sets up camp out in the woodlands.
Personality:
+ Cautious || Sarcastic || Fatalistic || Grim || Sullen +
Cyrus is careful and wary of strangers, and rightfully so. He does not want to spend his life trapped, which has shaped him into a selective loner of a figure. Whatever purity he had was soiled by fear and hatred, and has shaped Cyrus into a fatalistic, blunt, and sullen person. He is not comfortable with trusting others, not when the world is like it is. It would only take one person to change his life forever, so he tells himself that he prefers to remain on his own, that traveling in a party would make him an easy target.
Appearance:
+ 5'10" || Athletic || Raven-Haired || Scarred Face || Sharp Facial Features +
Like all of the Auberon men, Cyrus is tall and stocky, with dark hair and light brown eyes. He has heavy lids that give his large eyes a constantly tired appearance, and his narrow and long face only adds to the effect. Unlike the rest of the males in his family, Cyrus cannot grow a beard to safe his life due to how fine and patchy his facial hair can be, so it always looks shaved, even if it hasn't been in quite some time. He has a very notable scar that runs from the corner of his mouth up to the edge of his cheekbone, given to him by his father, and another facial scar that has split his brow in two. Loads of other scars mar the rest of his body, but the facial ones were his worst wounds to heal up by far.
Other: Cyrus has no existing relationships; everyone in this roleplay that he meets will be a complete stranger to him.

Name: Winona Alavara Chamberlain.
Goes by: Win || Winnie || Winona.
Age: Twenty-seven.
Gender: Female.
Sexuality: Bisexual & Monogamous.
Crush: Nobody at this time. It feels a little foolish to fall in love in a place like this.
Love Interest: None. It's so uncomfortable when you're being watched all the time, and she feels as if some Templars would use her love against her.
Spouse: None. She wasn't sure if she saw herself ever getting married in life, but the idea of that is pretty much nonexistent now.
Family: She was the daughter of a beggar and a horrible, unknown man. She has no other siblings, at least as far as she knows, on the outside.
Rank: Enchanter.
Elemental: Ground.
Thoughts on Templars: Conflicted. Not all of them are evil, but not all of them are good. She's heard rumors of Templars taking advantage of Mages and killing them, blaming it on corruption. She's lost a lot of close friends in that way, friends that she knows would never fall prey to a demon. It's made her cautious, and admittedly bitter at times, but she tries to understand that what she's capable of is very dangerous.
Brief History: Her mother was a beggar woman in the lower districts of Stokhaven, and was a little derranged after years of substance abuse. Winona's mother had been caught stealing from the lesser royalty that she served as a live in nanny and maid to, and her free room and board were immediately brought to an end. Casted out on the streets, seven year old Winona and her mother lived in just about all of the cheap inns when they could afford it, slept under the docks, and often resorted to stealing just enough food to survive. Late one night, after Winona had eaten a spare, moldy bread roll that she and her mother were going to share the next morning, her mother had dragged her to Lake Percival and shoved her into the raft that the Templars used to transport inbound Mages into the Circle Tower. The beggar woman demanded that they take her daughter, because she was tired of protecting an ungrateful Mage cretin, and the patrolling Templars took her into the Tower after some emotion-driven resistance.
Personality:
+ Cautious || Poised || Graceful || Pleasant || Motherly +
It's hard to trust again when your trust has been broken so many times, and Winona feels like her childhood has deeply effected her personality. She's cautious and agile, like a trickster fox, but she's tired of feeling constantly on edge. The young woman is good at surpressing her inner feelings though, and is typically poised, friendly, and civil enough to get by in the Tower unharmed. Because of her past, Winona has a soft spot for tormented children and does try to ally with younger Mages in general, in hopes of giving them a mother figure inside of the Tower and making sure they steer clear of danger.
Appearance:
+ 5'9" || Rectangular Body Type || Thick Hair || Tired Gray Eyes +
WIP
Other: Winona is open to having existing friendships with other Mages. If it suits your Templar, one of yours may be the one who tugged her into the Circle Tower in the first place. These can be Mages on the outside or Mages on the inside.

Name: Agler “Thirteen” Tammon

Nickname: Thirteen

He was originally called Thirteen by his family after his being a mage got out. Bad luck. When he got to the Circle it sort of stuck, and that’s what he’s referred to now.

Age: 16

Gender: Male

Sexuality: Hetero

Crush: TBD

Love Interest: TBD

Spouse: None

Family: Open

His father was a farmer. His mother is dead. He grew up with his two older normal sisters and older normal brother.

Rank: Mage

Rank Desired: He’s not ambitious and is fairly chill where he is

Elemental: Water

Thoughts on Templars:

They’re a bit frightening, and I get nervous around them. I just want to live my life without them, no, no I don’t mean that. I mean, I sort of want them around…y’know, just in case something…bad happens.”

Brief History:

Agler was born to a simple farming family, destined to be the father’s second son and fourth child. Unfortunately, it was not to be so. He was born on a winter’s night and two weeks early. Everyone considered the child lucky to survive the unexpected birth and later the cold. The harvest after his birth was especially plentiful as well. In fact, they nicknamed him “seven” for a while. Terrible, though, was when he was only a little more than thirteen years old and water came dripping from his hands. Unnatural, unclean, unlucky. “Thirteen”. The boy was supposed to be sent off to the Circle immediately.

But Mother didn’t want that.

She took him and fled out into the woods. It was all in vain, though, as she was found the next day. Stubborn to give up her baby, she was killed. There is no token of it either.

Personality:

Timid | Weird | Collects Bones | Insecure | Hypocrite | Judgmental | Creative | Little Judgmental Gossip | Extremely Trusting Friend | Talkative Friend | Silent Stranger | Gullible to Friends | Dreamer |

Agler is a timid boy. The only backbone he has is from a goldfish which is because the kid collects bones because they’re cool. Yeah, he’s weird. He’s constantly scared of accidentally provoking others, getting in someone’s way, or being a nuisance. Often he just wants to be a little wood mouse out in the wild, curled up in his little warm nest after eating a sweet chestnut. Then going out again and suddenly an eagle swoops down to eat him. The world’s not safe, and he’s sure that whether in the Circle or not, he’ll get eaten alive if he steps out of line. He wants to be a shadow because shadows don’t need to be worried about…well, anything. They just are and no one confronts them. So peaceful. If he’s frightened of offending humans, you can imagine how terrified he must be of the demon inside him. To help himself cope with the idea of an evil creature living inside of him, he named it “Zero” because that was all it is. The monstrous, impeding creature of doom that lives only in his mind and being that could possibly make him go insane is absolutely nothing. Yeah, it just makes him feel better. After all, thirteen is a much larger number than nothing. Sometimes he’s tempted to talk to Zero, but never does, knowing that no good ever came from speaking with a demon.

He’s creative as well, and usually always keeps a notebook filled with his drawings and ideas inside. He would like to get his hands on some paint, but since it’s so expensive he can only dream of it. His main tool is a charcoal stick and chalk. He can write with a quill, but most everything is spelled incorrectly somehow.

He’s insecure and considers himself the most incapable person in the entire circle. Everyone else seems so much better than him, and they seem to know their purpose. Some walk with pride and confidence and it’s admirable. Sometimes he plays with the idea of strutting around like that or standing up for himself. Then he remembers how small he is; how odd. Surely he couldn’t be like that. However, at night he always daydreams of doing something about that and he wants to be more. Part of him also wants to be

Okay, remember how he thinks that everyone else is better than him? Yeah, he’s also a hypocrite and judges almost everyone on anything, their hair, the way they dress, their speech; sometimes it's just their vibe that irks him. Of course, you won’t get any terrible, scornful remarks from him. Just the occasional side glare, some criticizing thoughts, and a biased opinion when he actually meets you. Now, that’s fairly rare since he’s not very talkative. Not to strangers that is, once he knows you though, he’s a complete chatter mouth. He’ll talk and talk and talk, and share lots of his passions and random information that he’s collected. All of his judgmental thoughts will be shared as well and he’ll comment on all of yours, often agreeing. When he’s a friend, he pours out everything and once his trust is gained it is kept. He’s blind and gullible to his friends and once he’s soft he’s extremely trusting, a bit too much.

He’s a dreamer, but not a doer. Doing more than half of the things he dreams of is too terrifying to him.

Appearance:

He’s not a handsome boy.

His nose is bulgy like a wrinkled hawk’s beak and the hairy nostrils resemble that of a horse’s—permanently flared. On top of the bulbous feature are acne scars that are spread across his forehead and cheeks. The skin there is beyond saving. His lips are pale and thin, practically nonexistent actually. His eyebrows are thick, bushy, black lines across his face. His chin is the same way, weak and small, creating his circle head-shape to look even more circular. His skin is also pasty and he often looks like the most hideous vampire to escape a badly written romance novel, his hair being a dull, charcoal black. It’s constantly greasy from lack of washing. Because of this constant neglect, his hair is always wavy and it would’ve been straight if he cared for it. In fact, the most attractive part about this poor child is his eyes.

His blinkers are almond-shaped and deep-set. However, the shadow of his brow doesn’t hide his ever-observing, jade eyes. They are like a round pool of enchanted waters. The green dances around the edges of the pond and it recedes to the center island, which is a pile of char and earth. The water around the round pupil’s patch is smudged with a light earthy brown that spins outwards, mingling with the green. But the fog of forest is too intense and the earth cannot reach the edges, whose waters remain purely green.

If you haven’t noticed, he could care less about his appearance. It’s like tenth on his priority list. However, he will clean up a bit better if one of his friends presses him to (and support their wants with good reasoning) or if he likes a girl. If he has a crush, he’ll shower and wash his face regularly, try to dress better, maybe (depending on how crazy he is over her) pluck some nose and eyebrow hairs, and present himself friendlier. However, he’d probably never talk to her, just dream of it.

He usually wears a peasant’s usual wear—a gray tunic, brown pants, and a worn pair of leather half boots. He’s a bit undersized, standing a stumpy 5’ 3”. Part of it is because he was born premature, but also because his family’s short, too. His father was only three inches taller than him, and his mother was an inch shorter. He weighs 118 pounds, too. Light partially because of the lack of heavy muscle on his bones, and also because of his light, ectomorphic body type. One could draw a stick figure with shaggy black hair and it would remind anyone of him.

Other:

I would like for this guy to have at least one platonic friend.

Major WIP!!
Name:
Kaiser Smith Chaise
Alias [if applicable]:
Kai to other mages, Chase to keep off Templar papers.
Age:
Twenty-four
Gender:
Male
Sexuality:
Unknown
Family:
Kai had a younger brother but he died getting Kai away when they were younger
Rank:
Apostate Mage
Elemental:
Ice Mage
Thoughts on Templars:
"They want to hunt us? Eh go ahead. They want to catch us? Bet. They want to trap us? Dare. People are afraid of me, so what? They're scared of you too. I like my freedom so I'm going to keep it. Don't like it? You'll have to catch me first."
Brief History:
WIP
Personality:
Kai is an intelligent, mysterious and cunning man. Loyal to himself and himself alone. He can be very street smart but will occasionally do things book smart if it calls for it. Can get himself out of tight situations with ease sometimes and can fool an enemy as if it were a game. He is calm and level-headed, but at some times he can loose his calm. When this happens, it's best just to stay out of his way. He can be ferocious and can hold against others on his own for quite a while. Even as a skilled fighter, he fights only if it comes down to it.

Kaiser is a trickster so to say. He doesn't like to get into trouble but he won't say no to a good chase. He knows the streets well and he also likes to throw out certain tactics that can get anyone unaware hurt or killed. He will never endanger a civilian but that doesn't mean he won't use them. He loves crowds as he can easily disappear and if he uses enough kindness, can get away from a chase with some goodies.

Kai doesn't like tight spaces, hence the tower. Just thinking about it makes him mad and he normally stirs up some kind of trouble. He walks a fine line with the demons, the voices always whispering in the back of his mind to go farther. He keeps to the line though, almost taunting the demons who want to overtake them but would rather keep to his pact.
Pact:
I don't need anything you can give me. I am content to play with the minds of the Templar's. If you want to be along for the ride, go right ahead. But I am trouble without you. So I don't need you.

Credit to ummmandy.tumblr.com
Name: Asteria Eos von Morrigan
Alias: Countess von Morrigan, My Lady, Countess
Age: 26
Gender: Feminine
Sexuality: Panromantic Demisexual
Crush: None - it gets annoying when people badger her for a marriage proposal, so she simply avoids fickle feelings like that
Love Interest: None
Spouse: Maybe in the future, but Asteria is frightened by the prospect of marriage
Family: None, at least close
Rank: Mage
Rank Desired: She despises being one, thus why she hides it from the public
Elemental: Ice magic

Thoughts on Templars: She has a love-hate relationship with them. For the past several years, many royal families had become buddy-buddy with the organization due to the popular and overall well-liked status, rebuking the existence of Mages to boost their own reputation and status among the people. While Asteria understands the balance of their existence, she can't imagine having any positive emotions towards them if she was ever caught. For now, she remains neutral - she'll remain in her path if they remain in theirs.

Brief History: Life was always perfect in the eyes of the public - elaborate dresses, wealth running over their pockets, personal invites from the royal family themselves, Asteria and her parents were living the high life. But behind closed doors, Asteria was forced to train under an older, more powerful Mage to control her powers and the demon that haunted her mind. For years, Asteria remained the unwed flower of Stokhaven, her beauty and mysterious persona somehow gaining favor among the noblemen. While her parents had pressed her for marriage, even up until their deaths, Countess von Morrigan avoided marriage and kept to herself, and stopped receiving training around the time she turned 24 years of age.

Personality: Asteria is much like her abilities - cold, powerful, and without the proper restraint, dangerous. Through the facade of being wealthy, Asteria has been able to keep her fair distance from others and not have to worry if someone she is close to spreads her secret. Asteria simply lives life with no true friends, as that would put her at a risk of getting caught. So, to many, the Countess has grown to become known as one of the most unattainable woman, which in turn has made her all the more tempting (which Asteria is cunning enough to use in her favor). With her velvety alto voice and sharp wit, Asteria knows how to get what she wants done without ever lifting a finger:

Of course, Asteria is not just a cold, unattainable presence, but if anyone were to be able to reach past that icy layer, one would find a smart, quiet, and inventive woman. She enjoys passing her time with reading books and thinking up different ways to suppress her abilities and the demon in her mind. Asteria, despite her seemingly perfect life, struggles with that forsaken demon, hearing it's whispers of fake promises and dreams covered in dust, and does all that she can to hopefully live as normally as possible.

Appearance: Asteria Eos von Morrigan is known as the unwed flower of Stokhaven for a reason - her beauty. The Countess stands at 5'5" with a shapely slim physique, her waist small enough to give the shadow of an hourglass frame. Her skin is the color of hot coffee lightened with sweet cream or thick milk, just as soft and warm as the drink, with specks of freckles covering her body in random order - along her shoulders, chest, face, back, in most areas. Underneath her lips to the left, is a much darker freckle, reminiscent of a beauty mark. Asteria's face is slightly rounded with a subtle sharpness along her jawline and chin, and in certain lighting, cheekbones. Her nose is slightly curved along the bridge, giving her a more unique appearance among her noblemen and women.
