The first time up to where I traveled, I planned to split the drive. Which I usually do. However, my dad came on this trip in our vehicle instead of my sister's. So, he drove the entire way. I might get lucky enough that he will drive the whole trip tomorrow, too. I usually make the drive on my own with my kiddo.

Flame | F | Elder | Mountain Cliff | M: Jiro(ind)
Flame finished sunning, growing bored. This was right around that time for that too. Raven was waiting for the alphas to wake up most likely so it was just her. She cocked her head at him before saying quietly, "I will be at Flower Lake if you need me. I'm sure the alpha's will wake soon." Raven nodded at her, resuming his position as she got up. Flame fanned her wings, prancing in a circle before running forward to lift off. She didn't need to run in order to lift off but it was certainly fun to do.

Flame flapped once, soaring above camp. She did a full circle around it before starting towards the lake. She was almost there when a gust of wind decided to blow her off course. Flame yipped once indignantly, but could do nothing as the wind grew. She flapped several times to keep herself upright before giving up and diving to the ground. Her landing could have used some work. She half rolled, half stumbled to a halt on the ground before shaking out her wings. She stopped doing that when a shot of pain went through her right one.

Seemingly nothing more than a sprain, she folded them onto her back while she looked around. Flame couldn't tell where she landed, although she could hear a river nearby. There was only one river she knew of and that came from the lake. If she could find the river, she should be able to find her way back. Flame sighed, starting to walk in that direction. She didn't walk for a reason. Her legs were the first to start going with her old age. Flying seemed to be the only way she got around. Granted, she did spend a lot of time during the day to nap to regain that energy but still.

Flame could hear the river quite well now and slowed down. She had made it to the edge and she bent down to get a drink. Laying down to rest for a moment, her ears flicked to the side as she heard someone coming. Panic went through her mind as she realized she might have been flung into someone's territory. Her ears went alert as she got up before she backed away from the river's edge. She sighed, she was too old for this never-ending war it seemed. Sitting down, she waited for the wolf to find her. She knew it could either be a Sakura wolf member or the Seawater pack. Flame was nowhere near the Volcanic Pack so she didn't have to worry about them.

Jiro | M | SaltWater Pack | Beta | Mentions: Flame

Jiro's head snapped upwards as he thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye, but scanning the skies, he found nothing except the leafy tree branches swaying in the wind. Strange. I could've sworn I saw something. On edge, he glanced around at his surroundings, searching for anything out of the ordinary. Still nothing. Hmm. He took a step into the river, comforted by the water's presence. Whatever it was or even if it was nothing, getting in the water wouldn't hurt. The water was his domain.

Giving the area one last look, Jiro prepared to continue on his way when he got the sinking feeling that something wasn't right. As he hesitated, he heard an heavy thump from deeper into the forest, as if something large had landed. A low growl rose in his throat. It had to be a bird wolf. No real bird was that large and of the wolves that could fly, only the Mountain Cliff Pack shared a border with the SaltWater Pack. What are they doing this far out?, he thought, a snarl working its way onto his face, the fur bristling along his back.

When the initial shock died down, he shook his head as if to clear it. He had to think straight. This could be very bad for him. Though the river provided some amount of security, it wasn't foolproof. He didn't like fighting on land in the first place, but the bird wolves were capable opponents both in the sky and on the ground. Direct confrontation in these circumstances would be a last resort. He dropped his snarl, straightened his fur, and correct his posture, making himself appear bigger and stronger than normal. Submerging himself deeper into the river, he made his way upstream around where the original noise had come from, using his powerful tail to propel him through the water, tucking his paws in at his side. Though it came from the land, he would stick to the river as much as possible.

Within minutes, he spotted a red figure up ahead. An older wolf resting by the water's edge. Strange... but also good for him. A true battle party would be comprised of younger wolves. Jiro came to a halt, resting his legs on the muddy riverbed. Half submerged, he raised his head and shoulders above the waterline, getting a good look at the bird wolf. Not exactly a threat but no ally either, he concluded. Still, he better keep his distance. He shot a wary glance toward her wings, maybe the most dangerous aspect of hers but he wasn't exactly eager to find out. "A bird wolf? You're a bit far from home," he called out, keeping his cool as he studied the wolf.

Flame | F | Elder | Mountain Cliff | M: Jiro
Flame breathed in deeply when she thought she heard something. Opening her eyes, she tilted her head to look around calmly until her eyes landed on a half submerged wolf in the river. While he looked like a tiger shark, she could see his wolf-like features. A dorsal fin rested on his back, but she couldn't see his tail. That was probably a good thing. There was gills along his neck as well. He was most definitely in the Saltwater Pack. She hadn't seen one of them for a while, so she was a tad curious.

She kept her expression calm as the rest of herself relaxed slightly. She knew she shouldn't be but the fact that he hadn't attacked right off helped that fact. At his statement that was borderlining a question, she flattened her ears before bowing her head. It was a gesture of respect. From how he held himself, he had to be at least a beta if not the alpha himself. That let her give the respect easily. Lifting her head, she said in a calm voice, "I am indeed. It seems that the winds blew me farther off course than originally thought."

She stayed quiet for a moment before flicking an ear, "Would you be so kind to show me back to my border? I'm afraid that I have lost my sense of direction since I landed." She said this is in a gentle voice, one that was not panicked but also gave a sense of peace. Flame did not want to ensue a fight, that was her last resort. There was no reason for it to happen so it shouldn't happen. She didn't care for fighting even though she would protect her pack with her life. Flame was sure other packs felt the same.

♦Feather♥3 years◊Omega◊Mountain Cliff♥Female She/Her♦
Feather awoke, and knew instantly it was later then normal. She was usually the first up, getting things done in the morning. She looked around, no one seemed to need her yet... She wasfeeling ready for a flight to wake herself up before the usuall Omega chores. She glanced around at the rest of the pack. The chores could wait 30 minutes. She could dissapear for a bit, it would be fine. She then saw an opportunity to go
Feather was now following Flame. She shouldn't have, should have just stayed out of trouble, but she coulden't help but follow them. Yeah yeah, duties and what not, but she liked her usual flight, and pretending to be on a trip with Flame was an eccuse for a late fly. It wasen't too hard, she just sat there watching as Flame talked to Raven and decided to follow. She wasen't usually anywhere near this daring, but yet here she was, following Flame
She flapped into the air after Flame did a circle, following at a distance. A wind came out of no where, but she had to hide her yelp so Flame woulden't see her, she was just about to help flame land, when she tumbled onto the ground. That looks like enemy territory Feather thought, just as Flame backed away. She landed a short ways from flame hidden from view, shocked to see her just sitting there when there was clearly another wolf approaching through the water. She tensed for a fight just in case.
Feather watched them talk for a minute. Do they know eachother? Then she heard what they were saying and it made more sense. Then Feather made a mistake and opened her wings too mush, snapping some branches in the shrub she was hiding it. "Darn it" she growled under her breath, looking up at the other 2 wolves

Jiro | M | SaltWater Pack | Beta | Mentions: Flame, Feather

Jiro's eyes narrow slightly and his mouth curled into a subtle frown as he regarded the bird wolf with suspicion. He was no flier, but to crash in enemy territroy with no sense of direction seemed.. amateurish at the very least. Still, the ocean currents could be overwhelming to the untrained swimmer, and he assumed air currents were more or less the same way. But the bird wolf before him was no pup. Was she alone? Despite sharing a border, Jiro's interactions with the Mountain Cliff Pack were limited, typically taking the form of a border patrol and customary acknowledgement of the other side. It was possible the old wolf was just a decoy, a lure to get him near Mountain Cliff Pack territory where others would launch a surprise attack, officially recording the incident as a crossed border. He didn't think any of the packs would stoop so low, especially not the bird wolfs who seemed relatively content with their mountain range when compared to the dragon wolves and their volcano., but he couldn't exactly vouch for them either.

Regardless, letting an intruder stay on SaltWater Pack territory was unacceptable. She had to go; just how to do it was the question. He could point her in the right direction and let her be on her way, but that required trusting her to keep her word and head straight out, trust he didn't have. No, she had to be escorted, which meant he would have to take the risk that this was all a set-up. The river ran straight to Flower Lake, crossing into Sakura Pack territory before reaching the Mountain Cliff Pack border. The other way, to the ocean and along the coast, would be preferable, but to lead a bird wolf deeper into SaltWater Pack territory was equally unacceptable, as if she would even allow it in the first place. Part of the journey would have to be on land, which would make him vulnerable. In that case, he'd give directions from the rear and let her go first. He'd never turn his back on a bird wolf, especially not on land. No matter their disposition, as long as they could fly they remained a serious threat.

While unhappy with the risk involved, he reasoned this would give him the best position to defend himself and the integrity of the SaltWater Pack terrirory. He was about to announce his conclusion when he heard branches snapping. "Who's there?" Jiro growled, whipping around to locate the sound, ear flicking back, his great tail lashing in the water, throwing a large wave onto the riverbank, drenching a cluster of vegetation. An accident, but one that worked in his favor, demonstrating the raw power of his tail. His eyes locked on a young silver wolf sprouting a similar set of wings as the elder bird wolf berfore him. Great. "What are you doing here?" he asked rather pointedly.

Flame | F | Elder | Mountain Cliff | M: Jiro, Feather
Flame could tell that the wheels were turning in the males mind. She didn't blame him. If she was in the same situation, she would be thinking it over as well. However, she was tired of the war and the fighting. Even if this male attacked her, she doubted she would fight back. Now, if the male attacked one of her packmates, that was a different story.

The male seemed ready to give his decision when she heard branches snap nearby. Her head whipped around and she quickly backed herself into a tree, cornering herself so that nothing could sneak up behind her. Flame's head lowered into a defensive position before the male in front of her splashed the river and pretty much drenched the bushes. Yep, definitely a beta male or even alpha. Flame blinked in surprise though as she spotted Feather.

She didn't know much about Feather, except that she was the omega and barely older than a pup. The other female must have been following her and seen her blown off course. Feather did look a bit lost like herself. As soon as she realized it was Feather, she relaxed again, her tense wing muscles shooting pain through her one wing. Flame hid a wince, not very well and took to sitting back down, looking slightly tired. This was normally her sun time at Flower Lake. Too much activity in too little time.

She was getting too old for this. Flame looked at Feather before extending her good wing to brush the younger female's fur. Poor girl was probably terrified. She quickly folded her wing back over her back so that it only looked like a comfort and not a warning. Or worse, a signal to attack. She didn't need the male thinking she brought the female with her in hopes to ambush an unexpecting wolf.

Feather had never fought anyone before, or learned how too, so she felt glad when Flame didn't seem like she cared to fight. Now beacause of those small braches, everyone was staring at her. She felt thankfull when Flame reached out to comfort her. Embarassed at being caught she stepped out of the bushes to stand next to the older wolf . Feather flinched at the big splash of water "I got lost too..." she mumbled akwardly answering his question. At least the elder she-wolf wasen't mad. She tucked in her wings close to her, watching the SaltWater Pack wolf decide what he was going to do.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She haden't meant to follow Flame her whole flight, just a little bit. The wind currents had been strong though , and it had surprised her. She still had lots to learn about flying. Feather glanced up at the sky. Wait. What time was it? She had to be back in time to finish her chores, someone would probably have noticed that she wasen't there. Or maybe not, maybe they didn't really care. It made sense though, she had never really talked with the other ranks much. Omega was a great role in her opinion. Without the Omega, the whole places would get dirtier and dirtier and no one would replace the bedding. It was a honorable job. Not a respected one, but still important
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Feather noticed that the Elder seemed tired and weary. She wondered what the she-wolf would be doing right now if they haden't been blown off course. She haden't really thought much about what the other ranks did with thier day, she realized. She knew what each role meant, but not what they did when the weren't working. She was the Mountain Packs only Omega, so she was constantly busy. Wake up, morning filght, clean the camp, get rid of ticks and annoying bugs, make sleeping areas, go to sleep. Over and over in a cycle. She wondered what life would be like if she were someone else.

Jiro | M | SaltWater | Beta | Mentions: Flame, Feather

"Awfully convenient," Jiro muttered under his breath. Were all bird wolves directionally challenged or was it just these two? Still, they'd make for a rather poor attacking party. The elder was, well, old, and the newcomer appeared to be no more than a pup. A pup. He took another look at the younger bird wolf, as if sizing her up. "What? Does the Mountain Cliff not teach their pups anymore? How to fly? Pack borders? Not crash landing halfway in SaltWater territory?" he scoffed, shaking his head. While he mostly just mocking the young wolf, the flying packs had become rather... liberal with borders recently. Though he'd never made the voyage personally, reconnaissance traveling by sea near the Volcanic Pack's islands had reported dragon wolves raiding Sakura at night. The flying packs had become bold, a little too bold for his liking. From what he could tell, the other packs did not completely agree with Saltwater's foothold on land, but despite his own lack of fondness for the land, he appreciated the freshwater from the river and the variety of food the forest provided. Regardless, he would defend the integrity of SaltWater territory.
"State your names," Jiro commanded, returning to business. "As you might have guessed, you can't stay here. This river flows from Flower Lake through Sakura and then SaltWater territory, as you should know. Upriver and then east through the forest takes you to the Mountain Cliff border. Or if you find the deer wolves more... hospitable, you can try cutting across their lands. But I'm only going to my borders and not a step more. I'm not exactly about to let some bird wolves go wandering in SaltWater territory, so I'll escort you. No flying." Jiro shot a glance at the elder. "And you go first."
Although the elder was without a doubt more experienced, he knew younger wolves were more trouble with their high energy and impulsiveness. Better to keep the young one closer. He also figured that elder would be somewhat more competent at basic navigation than her younger companion. Regardless, he didn't like the looks of this. Two on one is never good, especially when they would have to cut through the forest and he would lose the protection of the river. Still, he refused to show any sign of concern to the strangers, least they attempt to take advantage of it. Though nearing the Mountain Cliff border through the forest with two bird wolves gave him some anxiety, he would have to make do.

Flame | F | Elder | Mountain Cliff | M: Jiro, Feather
As Feather stepped closer, Flame reached out to nuzzle the younger one's ears. She didn't have any pups of her own, only one had survived her last litter. The female had died later on due to the war. Flame would give anything to have her back but that was this life. As much as she disliked it. At the male's jab, her eyes looked at him with disappointment. Here, he had been doing so well to be civil and protective of his territory and now he was just being sarcastic.

Flame huffed before she said, "There is more to flying than flapping our wings. Can you swim just by moving your tail? You have paws to guide your way, fur that keeps you dry and a powerful tail to propel you forward. Do you simply swim or do you use the currents under the surface to do some of the work for you? And if a current is too strong for you to get out of or fight against?" Her words were almost like a sharp rebuke. "Flying is no different. Turning our bodies to ride the winds is much like you swimming. Too strong of a wind current and your just along for the ride."

Finished her reply, she frowned before extending a wing to pull Feather closer to her. She had respect for the other packs, even though her old alphas did not. Now with the new generation, she did not know what would happen. Flame would respect them to a point, but not if they acted so rude about it. She listened to his second segment before saying afterwards, "My name is Flame. This here is Feather. I believe we have had enough of running into packs today, so cutting through the forest will be well."

Once he said she could go first, she sweeped her tail over to Feather. "Stay close to me dear. We will be home in no time." Flame said, using a gentle tone to calm the young female. She got up slowly before looking at the river. Figuring out which way was upstream quickly, she looked back once before slowly making her way up the shore. Her wings that were originally folded neatly were no longer. Her sprained one hung down slightly while the other extended out slightly so she could keep her balance.

Flame was slightly worried about when it came time for the forest. She wasn't sure how well Feather was at flying but she wouldn't be able to do her normal maneuvers with her wing. The forest covered the border a little bit which meant more walking before she could get to a place to rest. Flame looked back every so often to make sure Feather was okay. She would be able to keep this pace for a little bit before she would need to rest.
