Okay, lets get to the point- I hate most of my style. My full bodies look horrid, and chonky, i can't do paws, and my tails are long triangles. Im not kidding. The only thing i like are my headshots, but those only go so far, and they are just head and neck, the eyes are always ovals cause i cant get them right, but i love how i fill them! And i can only do right or left facing, no 3/4 or straight on. I also cant open to mouth much, like anything that would require the muzzle to move. Some examples; (Credit to 184917/me!) So i need help! Anything- tutorials, videos, constructive criticism? Just help me before this de-railed train becomes a wreck.

What art program do you use? Edit: Also what do you use to draw? Do you have a tablet? a phone? A drawing tablet? Edited at August 29, 2020 08:51 PM by Viviren

AutoDesk scetchbook for characters, Procreate for backgrounds. Im super confortable with these, though ive tried IbisPaint and MegaBang or whatever, neither work as well for me. I also use a ipad to draw, but i could always try laptop!

Shadow I would stick to tye Ipad since you can basically draw like if it were on paper. Do you have one of those touch screen pens or do you use your fingers?

Alright. I would get a pen so that you can see what you are doing a bit better, that will help with lining, shading, and pretty much everything else. Even a cheap one would work. As for your style, I think if you shaded and highlighted your pieces you would like it a lot more. The examples above are a little flat, but a simple added contrast would fix that right up! I can dig up a few videos I used to learn about how lighting and stuff worked. The only other thing I would say that could be changed is all the lines are the same size, which is probably why your fullbodies look "Choncky" If you use a pen that will help a lot with that. As for the tails, all I can say is experiemnt. When your drawing the tails, draw smaller trianges, with a slight curve in them in the direction the fur goes. It takes me a while to get mine right too ^^

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CSmyvywCcc - And this video shows a really good view on how to change up the lineart, and they also draw hair which is kind of like how I explained to draw the tails, so I think it would help you a lot! They also use Autodesk sketchbook so hopefully you can find and use the same brushes! Hope they help ^^

Hi! so do you start out with a base sketch and build the character off of that? Or do you just draw the lines right away?
